I believe there will be a movie made about Zbig Rybczynski one day. He is one of the greatest geniuses in the film industry. Whoever studies his work will see it clearly. He was always ahead of times. Not only a filmmaker, but also an inventor, educator, and a great person with a lot of hardships in his life. I have an incredible respect for him and his work.

There was no internet back then and they probably didn't even know who was nominated in those categories. It's not like when John Travolta mispronounced "Les Miserables" in 2013. If you never heard it how would you say Zbigniew Rybczynski? To me they obviously weren't trying to be funny or be disrespectful at all. The Academy should've given them the pronunciations, if known, but they obviously didn't.

You know, if you are saying a name you can't pronounce correctly, try to say it slowly. It shows more respect and it takes you the same time that "ribshi-sky something!" Or add a quick 'sorry', imagine that instead of McNichol someone says: "macan-alcohol" in your big night.

@@brunasilva2269 no I think they were both just really nervous and uncomfortable. Award shows are so rigid and the teleprompters are constricting. Plus this was Matt’s first major fancy important thing. Up til then it’d just been movie premieres for his teen films. Nothing of this caliber before

I’ve seen clips of them in interviews and talking about working with each other etc. I really think it was just the nerves and atmosphere. Plus neither one of them was able to pronounce any of the names they were reading and you could tell they were both feeling embarrassed and frustrated

HA Kristy it's pronounced Spig-nuf Ar-ib-chin-skee. Still love her with all my heart ❤️ Also look up other Zbigniew Rybczynski works if you haven't! He is absolutely incredible. He did some really cool music videos for John Lennon's "Imagine" and Dave Brubeck's "Take Five". I also love his short film "Oh, I can't stop!" it's so creepy heheh.
