    I would 💚 to have you do a multiple episode breakdown on peperomia care. I think that's whqt it was lol. I am definitely struggling with them and haven't found any videos that really help. Also, when I get a plant that is new to me or that I'm struggling with, I come to your channel FIRST because of how you "nerd out" (in the bestest way of course lol😊) on all things about that plant!!✌🏽

      I agree that Drea is an excellent teacher, but if you need help now and Drea hasn't done a video on your particular plant species yet, The Spruce is a good resource, as is Planterina although I sometimes find her videos hard to follow, and she drives me crazy! LOL

      Yes, please do a Peperomia video for us. Maybe mix it up a little with common one's like Hope, Watermelon, and any others that others request. That would be very helpful and informative as your videos always are. 💐🎈👏❤️🌵👍

      I don't have much experience with peperomia, but what has worked for me is treat them more like succulents when it comes to repotting and watering. Basically, the thicker the stems/leaves are, the more they resemble succulents when it comes to care. Definitely avoid repotting when the soil is wet. When it comes to watering “taco test” is a good indicator that the plants needs water. If the leaves can be easily bent into the shape of a taco shell then you know it is time to water. In the beginning it is helpful to check how firm the leaves are every few days to feel it out. It's a bit more difficult to check with more exotic ones like pepreomia nevada, but it can be done 😉 Hope that helps somewhat.

    Loved how you filmed the plants in their spots and the comparison photos! Your Donkey tail is huge,I hate repotting them due to loosing so many leaves! If you want your cane Begonias to bush out,keep pinching the growth tips,it’s hard to do but as soon as the new branch has 2+ sets of leaves,pinch the tip off and keep doing it to new branches,when it gets left to grow on its own,it just gets taller and taller,I’ve got so many cane begonias,including the Maculata. I would love to know how you did that pot extension,brilliant idea! 💚🪴🌿

    I still haven't got a raven zz but I did get a second regular one and put my 4 shoots in and now I've got growth from the og shoots and the new shoots. I was stuck with 4 rhizomes and 4 shoots with one dying off to have another. It's nice to have a fuller looking plant and for it to actually be growing now!
    As to Theo, if he's anything like my dog he'll give up on the plants. My dog would get jealous when I was doing plant care or repotting etc and now he will just lay down with a toy and watch me. It's extra nice BC I can put plants on the floor and low shelves and have no issues with him attacking the plants. He lays on a storage bench in by bedroom with the golden pothos literally resting on his back and he doesn't snap at it or give it a tug where a year ago he would grab a plant that grabbed him first.
    The cat that doesn't actually live in my planty areas, will occasionally sneak in and give my elephant palm and spider plants hair cuts. It's more of an issue in winter BC she can't get grass if she goes outside so I think she does it intentionally to get sick (BC she does get stuck after). I find it fascinating that she only goes for the plants that are non toxic. Her cat tree top two levels have tradescantia on both shelves and she doesn't touch them. Not sure if they're toxic or not but she's def for the grass-like ones. Maybe getting some plants that are "who cares if the cat munches them" like spider plants and tucking them with the others Theo will say least go after the ones that won't harm him and that you're indifferent about 🤷🏼‍♀️

I watched the video on trolls so I just wanted to tell you I think you are a very lovely woman and looking your absolute best here. Your home is gorgeous! Do you live in this huge house all by yourself? Don't worry, I am not a creeper. I am merely jealous, LOL. With the choices I have made in my life I have NEVER been able to support myself and probably never will be. I am 61 this year so starting a new career is not in the cards. My sister and my youngest daughter are strong independant women who live on the own. I have been married for over 37 years and we made the decision for me to stay home and raise our kids. But what that did was make us always on the verge of being flat broke constantly. If I had a career we could have had a big beautiful house too.

      Of the ones in the Curio genus (pearls, bananas, dolphins, etc) I have found the pearls to be the easiest and the dolphins to be the hardest. The Ceropegia genus ones (string of hearts/string of spades) are probably second easiest behind string of pearls for me personally. However, keep in mind what is easy for one person may not be easy for the next and vice versa.💚

      @PureAussiegirl - I hear you! OMG, do I hear you! My Peperomia Frost has been kicking my butt for a couple of months now. I also struggled with my Peperomia Trinervis. For some reason my Peperomia Emerald Ripple was a piece of cake after I potted him in a terracotta pot with Drea's succulent mix. I think I have finally figured out what the problem was with my Frost - too little light. He was dropping leaves like nobodies business until I moved him from an East window into a lower tier on a plant stand in my southern window. I haven't lost a single leaf since then. My Peperomia Trinervis is now growing like a weed, but I don't know what I started doing right. I am waiting with bated breath for the Peperomia care video! Did you add dolomite lime (calcium) to your potting soil? I was having a lot of problems with my Watermelon Peperomia until I add that to his soil. Now he is putting out an entirely new branch with several new growth points.

The leaves had a weird yellow tinge in between?it's the root rot that I really knocked them with. So they are on my verandah. It's summer here or supposed to be. More cloud then sun.. I'm so so so jealous of your Stromanthe triostar too. Another one sitting on my verandah think it had t thrips. I took a leaf off. I really need to get a magnifying glass. As far as the Peperomia care video, what about breaking it up into succulent, not succulent, and absolutely not succulent? I know there are technical terms for those 3 classes, but they escape me at the moment. LOL Thank you for mentioning your issues with your green Maranta and needing to repot him in a deeper pot. I was also having problems with Maranta's potted in shallow pots. In fact, I killed my red Maranta last summer. I have since replaced him, let him acclimate for a month, then put him in a deeper pot and he is growing like gangbusters! I always had my lemon lime Maranta in a deeper pot, mainly because I didn't have a shallow pot, and he is also growing like gangbusters. Have you considered getting a spray bottle, hooking it on your belt loop, and spraying Theo when you catch him messing with your plants? Depending on the cat, it can be very effective! I have always had cats, and that is my go to correction. I especially like the pump up spray bottles. Those suckers will squirt across a pretty big room! On another note, I might have to check into Hoya's. I really like the look of some of yours. 😃 On yet another note, I would love it if you would start your 'living plant wall' in the bathroom and film updates maybe every quarter. I have been thinking of doing a living wall in my living room, and it would be really neat to have a reference to create it. Just a suggestion. Your house, your choice.

    Hi, great vid as usual… your chain of hearts is getting to much Sun and not enough water. Leaves get smaller with under watering and too much light. I’d also say the same for you donkey tail as far as to much light goes. I had a 3 meter long donkey tail and decided to repot it because it had been in the same pot for years. She lost so many leaves 😞 It was far from root bound as far as depth of the pot goes. It was more from overcrowding at the top, because like yourself, I put all the dropped leaves(?) back in the pot. I’d suggest not doing that anymore, instead when the new growth from the top of the pot gets to a decent length, snap the tip off so it branches and makes the top of the pot seem fuller. Have a little pot nearby for all of the dropped leaves and start a new plant. I really hope all of that made sense lol.. p.s Haworthia like a deep pot

    🇦🇺 Happy New Year Drea 🎉🎉
    Love the walk through showing your plants in all their glory and difficulties... And Adventures with Theo 🤣 I'm so sorry, but as you went along everytime I heard Theo's name I ended up laughing harder and harder. Poor Theo, it's ok, we know he's loved. I have two Australian Cattle Dogs (heelers) I have no plants on the floor or lower window sills, as the plant survival rate would be zero! As for calling plants she/her, it's very common, think countries (except Germany) and ships/boats etc.
    I adore the tiny dancer, I have one and she is a prolific grower, and I agree, they hardly ever lose leaves, and those tiny cupped leaves just remind me of ballerina hands, so graceful.
    P. Tetragona, I also have this one, I love how it arches downwards, and seriously! That P. String of turtles??! Should be in the Guinness book of records.
    I'm guessing that your selaginella didn't make it? No, my memory isn't that good I just watched last year's version recently. I was very curious to see how it went, mine only survive in terrarium type planting, the one i have in an open glass sphere only did well when I basically drowned it and left it alone.

    Not plant related, and forgive me if I asked before! Do you happen to know the paint color on your walls, near you Calathea corner? It looks lovely. I am converting a small room into a plant room, and the walls are currently green. Have a look at eggshell shades. They are sort of white, not stark, not dirty looking, and a warmer shade of color. If you have something in your house that is the color you want, take it to a paint store. Chances are good they can do a custom mix to match it. Hope this helps! 😃

    I hear people talk about root to leaves ratio. Is there an easy formula for that? I'm not sure how to judge that?

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 6 місяців тому +1

      In very general terms, the root and leaf volume should look balanced. A plant that has very lush top growth and sparse roots is likely to decline fast. Likewise, a massive root system with little growth on top is usually an indication that something has gone awry. That's why, when you root prune, it's advisable to prune a similar amount of the above-ground material to keep the ratio in check. If you cut 1/3 of the roots, cut 1/3 of the vines or stems. If you divide a plant in half, try to keep half of the roots attached to each division. Plants are resilient and want to live. Preserving some of the balance they had established will help them along the way.

    • @msscamp100
      @msscamp100 6 місяців тому +1

      According to what I've read, the general rule to root pruning is don't remove more than 1/3 of the roots and you shouldn't have to prune any of the above soil foliage. If you're pruning foliage, don't remove more than 1/3 at a time and give the plant about a month before pruning any more. If you're not doing either one, don't worry about it - the plant has it under control.

One is in water and two were in a perlite box but started having some mould so now I put them into H2O2 again and am not sure if I’ll also just put them in water and hope that something happens or let it dry out and then plant it or or or … 🥲
