What she did was only one variant of lunge know as the reverse lunge, and it's different from what most regular folks know as 'lunge' which is the forward lunge or even walking lunge.
However, she didn't mention of the importance of basic form to look out for when doing the lunge to maximise the exercise while preventing injuries - stance width and alignment, hip-knee-2nd toe alignment, hip & pelvis orientation, trunk lean/orientation, etc.
Seriously, many personal trainers simply don't have the sufficient or the in-depth education on exercise science and biomechanics to advise on how to do exercises properly in entirety.
