- Why The Police, IAM and RoSPA Motorcycle Bible, RoadCraft Could Be A DANGER For You!
** I have turned comments off on UA-cam because some people were a bit annoyed with me for making this video and were rude in the comments beyond belief. But, if you'd like to chat with me, just buy me a beer using the link below and I'll reply straight away. Here's the link: buymeacoffee.com/btcbiker 😎 **
Firstly, I want to make it clear that this video offers just another way of thinking and is not intended to offend anyone.
IAM and RoSPA base their training on the police motorcycle advanced training manual called Roadcraft and a system called IPSGA which is 87 years old. It's time for a change perhaps. This doesn't all work for civilian advanced motorcycle riders.
This one-size-fits-all approach is great for police motorcyclists who receive an intensive 3-week course and can then go on to do another 3-week advanced intensive course and ride outside of the limits of the law, but it certainly doesn't all apply to, or fit civilian motorcycle advanced riding and IAM and RoSPA need to change.
Organizations like IAM and RoSPA base their training programs on the police motorcycle training manual, Roadcraft, and the IPSGA system, which is 87 years old. While these foundations have been valuable, it is time for these organizations to evolve and better support all UK motorcycle riders. Encouraging manoeuvres solely to achieve higher certification levels is an outdated practice that doesn't necessarily contribute to making better civilian advanced motorcycle riders. A "certification" alone does not guarantee improved riding skills.
It is also important to note that the DVSA does not recognize Roadcraft or IPSGA. My opinions are drawn from my own experiences, and this video is intended to contribute to the advancement of safe advanced motorcycle training for everyone. I frequently use the word "sometimes" to emphasize that my recommendations may not apply universally. I encourage viewers to seek advanced motorcycle training from a variety of sources and to adopt the practices that suit them best. Always ride within your comfort level and avoid being coerced into unsafe manoeuvres that you are not comfortable with.
TBC, this video is not about having a go at Roadcraft. Roadcraft is a brilliant foundation and you should take from it the parts that suit you and I suggest that if you don't have a copy, that you buy on, it's not expensive. The Amazon link is here: amzn.to/3WlYNX2
