I would pay top dollar for an album full of these kinds of proggy all bass arrangements. Incredible musicianship. That bass boxy thing is good too :) I bought the B7K in a large part due to your review and the walkthrough. Nobody is doing the detail you are on dialing in these tones. Amazing.
The best bass gear reviewer! I love your approach to your demos. They are very detailed and thorough, showing off possibilities that I (and possibly others) dont think about such as the synth shown in here. And most importantly, you do it with basses that many players are likely to have. More people need to check you out if they are in the market for Darkglass Products!
I've got down some rabbit holes with effects and modelers in the last couple years... this honestly seems like it might have been the one stop solution for a lot of my needs.
After watching your videos for both this and the Microtubes, I went with the Microtubes. Part of me didn't want to deal with having to use my phone to use the amp, the other part of me would just struggle not having easily identifiable knobs. Watched your video on the AO Photon and bought one immediately after. Love your videos and what you're doing.
Great video once again Amos! Will be interesting to see how the team supports future improvements to this thing. Unfortunately it seems their post-release supports is fairly lacking. The flagship Photon was released last year and still haven't seen any firmware updates even though the manual promises more cab sims though firmware updates.
Yeah, it's true and I am so sorry for that, Jonas. We are going to add ∼ 100 IRs as soon as we have some time to try them out. About the Exponent, we are gonna add at least 4 devices before the end of this year. More firmware updates coming, I promise!
For what it's worth, Darkglass released a firmware update for the Aggressively Distorting Advanced Machine (I guess they can't just call it "ADAM" anymore, due to a cease-&-desist letter) approximately a year after its' release. My guess is firmware updates for Exponent and A-O-Ph should be coming soon.
I've been Bob, YOU've be amazing! The song is gorgeous and the detailed explanations are golden. Before I would want this like it should be a nice amp upgrade with integrated effects. Now I really want this for the effects before the amp!
Really interesting. Started learning bass, coming from guitar. Started with a Squier CV Mustang Bass with La Bella deep talkin' flats, and an Ampeg MicroVR+SVT210. Then I got an Alpha Omicron and Hyperluminal comp. Very very happy with the sound and wouldn't change it now, especially after upgrading the MicroVR fan to a quiet one. But, I think if I was starting right now, I'd have gone with this. It gives you plenty of volume, plus loads of fx choices to keep going for years; and to figure out which pedals you really need for your sound. I suppose for live, might have to dedicate a 10" ipad or something to it. Can you toggle through preset stacks, or control individual module bypass with MIDI? On the Alpha Omega vs. B3K, Dark Glass might not be happy about it, but there's that Joyo - so for me I went with second-hand Alpha-Omega (it's my favourite). Then the cheap Joyo for Christmas. And might pickup the Vintage Microtubes sometime later to sort of fit the same pseudo tube warming function as the low gain EHX Hot Tubes / Boss Waza Blues Driver combo I use on my guitar. Maybe I should try the EHX Hot Tubes on bass first though ...
I was thinking of getting this but ended up getting a boss GT1K core instead. The main issue I had is that it depends entirely on an external device to be useful, once they drop app support you're kind of screwed unless you wanna keep an old phone purely to tweak the signal chain. Cool idea and love the interface, even if it does sound a touch clunky. Might be interested in a V2 though, sounds incredible!
You sir, absolutely need more Subscribers. Your video is amazing! I am also, now definitely buying this amp. Sounded good in the store, but I had limited time so I didn’t have time to really explore… this has sealed it.
Once again a great review! Don't know If I'll ever actually need anything more than my tuner-compressor-preamp setup but this one seems a lot of fun to mess around with
Absolutely superb demo. Currently in the market for a new bass amp. Given the premise of an 'all-in-one' package, there are several deal breakers. No footswitching, only 5 presets? Also, no BPM/ms/tap on the delays? The latter could be fixed with a firmware update but the lack of footswitching/limited presets is a product killer. I'm still going towards a 900 microtubes v2 with outboard effects.
I was a bit leery of this. I need mostly clean with a few FX and was worried this was overboard. But your explanation of how simple programming was MAY have convinced me. Is there an Octave effect in the unit somewhere? I use that a lot to creat synth style sounds. Cheers and thanks for a great review!
Great song!!! Would like to have tabs for this ;-)! Great test and introduction of the possibilities of this amp!!! Very easy to understand! Thank you, Amos !!!
The overview in this video is revelatory. And should be regarded. There is an issue involving the global supply chain that has stunted the intended progress of this specific product let alone the entire Dark glass product line and future creations. Which is made clear when we look and the latest BK1 which says, hey, we are limited and our hands are tied, here is a bone to hold you over til we are free wielding and unleash the beast. And like he cautiously states in the video, there IS more coming. If we could all employ that virtue of patience the reward will be ten fold. This is kind of my opinion of another man's opinion and some. Please, consider the global climate and let's all be thankful for what we have. We are bass, show some patience.
Finally they figured out that a large segment of the bass playing community have no need of an amp that sounds like a buzz saw. I wish I could be enthused about their earlier products, the classic tube type getting closest to a decent amp.
Im seriously going to sell my AO900 and get this badboy instead. This is so rad. The intro itself is so f*cking tasty. Could just loop that baby forever. Quality content from top quality player once again. ^____^
If you want a 900w it would be my guess that they’ll release it next year or a little later. I hope it doesn’t come with anything different though other than the wattage.
@@Sierra-xi2ty 900w would be preferable ofcourse, but I could live with 500w since I dont gig that much in big places. But I agree with you totally that only thing that would be different IF they release more powerful amp, is the wattage.
I wish I wasn't such a technophobe, all of the digital kit, such as this, sound amazing. Amps, cabs, pedals and a desk the size of a car are all I've ever used. Hell, I'm still trying to get my head around DAT replacing 2 inch.
That intro... Dayum... I really dig your groove and chops. Question... I saw the midi input so I assume it's possible to map effects to a midi pedal to turn them off and on yea? I can't imagine that's not the case. Also, how easy is it to swap from one signal chain set up to another for different songs / projects? I've been using an HX Stomp for months now in hopes of going to a small pedal board only since I use IEM. I want to love it but I just don't. I don't like the distortions in it so I still use my Darkglass A/O and Vintage Microtubes as well as my MXR M87 comp which starts to defeat the purpose of using it. I've actually pulled it off my board at this point. Exponent may be more what I was looking for, especially since it has most of my favorite pedals built in. I may still use my M87. I like that I can see what it's doing.
I've read it doesn't need a connected speaker to work... Does this mean I can place it straight into my pedalboard and use the d.i. on the back to plug straight into a mixer?
Also, if you know the Darkglass people, ask them to please throw in a sweepable mid selection or/ and fully/semi parametric eq!!! This would then probably be the best digital amp on the market.
First, awesome video. I really appreciate you diving into this amp to see what it can do while demonstrating it in a meaningful way. I wonder if Darkglass will be adding any of the Microtubes X pedals? Additionally, have you heard whether or not there will be any type of community tone cloud or DG artist preset patches?
@@AmosHeller Yeah, it's a great look! I've been playing bass for 25 years, and I've always been annoyed at the fact that guitar players can get a variety of pickup colors (whether it be bobbins or covers), but with bass pickups it always seems to be "any color you want, so long as it's black!" White covers on Jazz Bass pickups is definitely eye-popping!
Talking is usually something we as viewers have to "get through" but your personality shines through in a very enjoyable way! Keep up the great work!
Shucks Alex!

DUDDEEEEE THAT INTRO SONG!!!

Came for the amp… stayed for the song ! Great as usual, seems so easy Amos, congrats !
I was just thinking, we need a new video from Amos! That was fun.

Thanks!

I love that your demos have multi tracked, original compositions baked into them. It's super rad and jnspiring
Thank you!
I was getting worried that you had stopped making these videos! Another great one! Thank you!
Didn’t mean to frighten you. Just been busy with some other stuff lately…
The Intro is 🤩🥰 mega! I love it.💯
New to your channel mate, and I am very much enjoying the videos. The song is Sic as well!!

Do you play the drum tracks?
They're as high quality and musical, as your bass ideas.
Quality content as always - Tell Darkglass you sold another amp. This video pushed me to purchase.
failed to comment on the killer Misfits shirt - bonus points!!!
also, thinking about using the Element in the effects loop to free up processing for eq, noise suppressor, and possibly cabsim. could be crazy

So far there isn’t one. I’ve heard they’re working on one…

How do you make changes to a live to put on and take off effects at the time of the event?
