OMG Brother... you have so hit the nail on the head. We've seen the videos that say "Prices are rising and no longer attractive in the Phils" and while it's true not everything is "cheaper" here... certainly you can eat better for a LOT less. But if you want to eat out every day of your life, drink tons of beer, and try and duplicate your Western life to a "T", then yes it takes more money. But regardless... no matter WHAT your budget is... $600, $1000, $2000, etc... you will get MUCH more here than you do in the West. For me and I'm sure many others... life is better... more enjoyable, and healthier. We will be dropping a video soon that talks about our budget, our lifestyle, and the happiness we have found in each day. It's not for everyone... but the Philippines truly is a great place for someone on a budget to get the most from their life.
Wow, i can't believe i've encountered someone who actually does not live too far from my wife and i, and who basically shares the same philosophy. Just recently started a vlog of my own...not very good at this point, but I'm kinda new. Philippine Project 2 Anyway...nice to meet you 😊
You talk the most sense of any of the vloggers I watch. I know some, maybe most US expats couldn't live the lifestyle that you do, but you've shown that with the right mindset it is possible to live "well" on very little money in PH. Thank you for the info.
G'day mate just want to let you and all your viewers know that I spent 3 months in the province and my total spend per month was 27,000 pesos or 700 Australian dollars. That was for two people and included food rent electricity ,visas and fuel for the scooter. We bought all our vegetables from the local market and even went to restaurants two sometimes three x a week. Our rental was a little studio flat and had everything that we needed in there so it is very doable if you are good with your spending. Cheers from Australia love your channel mate, no BS🍻
I love your videos they are real, honest and truthful and have many ideas on how you can live on a budget. I think the people that disagree, do not have money worries then theses videos are not for you. You watch what you want and what applies to you and learn through what you see, research done for you! Thanks Darrell for all the work you put into your videos, they are very much appreciated.
I respect you! You are very clear. You and I share similar core values. Building a life from the bottom up at our age in life based who we are now deserves my complete respect and admiration. I’ve done the same and I respect myself and love myself for what I offer myself now. My confidence, clarity, fulfillment, joy and contentment is at all time high. This is an earned advantage from having learned through my life experiences how I want to live. Having choices as a result of not being handcuffed and straight jacketed to things is a huge part. The contentiousness I’ve receive for being really free and happy is but a symptom I’m living my right life. Most settle. I don’t! Great channel. I love your voice of freedom 🙏🏼
If I take out the extras that I spend (giving, family, caretaker of the property, and some misc) I spend around $950 USD per month. That is with a car, eating good food (we cook at home mostly), and enjoying life. My total monthly average is around $1,800 with all the extras included. I live in the province and built my house so I have no rent. Life is good here, come and try it but learn and listen to what is going on.
1800 dollar dude and you have your own house meaning you dont need to pay rent,..that money is too big for one couple to spend much f you just live in province whichyou can have cheaper veg.and fish even fresh one,..you can still live as like rich in that money ,you should tell your wife to lessen your spending money it is too much dude, unless she is making it triple when it comes to the price lol,..
@@BootsFrancisco-vn6bk Thank you for your advice. I spend what I choose to spend and what is comfortable for me. I could choose to spend less, but what fun is that? :)
I'm 74 years old, live in L.A. and I can't quit working cause if I do, I'm going to rely on my less than $3,000 SSA pension and I currently pay $2,200 for a dump where I live in. I'm going to consider moving where you are, I can't work till I drop.
I lived 2 months in Cebu as a tourist in 2022 - 2023 , Everything all in , ( 2 seniors ) was 3 K a month , travel , food , lodging , gifts @ Christmas etc. I consider that reasonable for what you get . The budget is what ever you decide it to be , I agree with you Darrell .Thanks for showing us around , much appreciated
Thanks for all your videos and info, mate. You inspired me to do all the calculations, and i'll have my mortgage gone in 5 years and move over in my early 40's. I found a big help with the budgeting side was to gather the online PH supermarket prices of things i know i use and eat, and use that as the likely top end of grocery prices for a western style diet. (Obv cheaper eating locally). Facebook marketplace has been valuable for rental prices and seeing quality/ availability too. Keep up the good work, and let us know your opinions on Olongapo and Tarlac! Whether they are worth a trip, too.
I've been to Olongapo and seems a nice little town. I really don't know much about Tarlac. Yes FB Market place is a good resource to give an Idea about what you will find
I find it amazing that others can’t let you have your joy and live a simple life. There will always be naysayers. You living your best life is the best revenge!
By far the most sincere guy I've found regarding PH. Actually considering the move, this guy has answered so many questions I never thought to ask. Thanks so much for a realistic view.
Glad you're finding this useful. Take your time. It's a big decision. I made the right decision for me. My life is so enriched compared to what I had to look forward to there living only Social Security income
If your home, motor, and truck are paid for and, have your visa sorted (srrv) you can live a very nice life in the province for $5-700 monthly. But you won't come here and in 1 year have everything figured out, it takes time to learn the culture and time to determine what you want your life to look like in your retirement years. I have friends who spend a great deal of money every month trying to duplicate a Western style lifestyle here, that is fine but for me a simple life with a good partner works great.
Thank you so much for this comment. This is exactly what people need to hear on their way here. It can happen but you need to discover your own niche here. I think you comment may have inspired a very good video. Please stay in touch my friend. What area are you in?
That's what I always heard, dont bring the west with you. Trying to live the lifestyle you had in USA. You're in a foreign country so brace the local culture and cuisine. Sure - there are western fast food places there but why eat the same things that was having in the US if trying to escape that culture and lifestyle? Why bring a shipping container of life comforts from the US? When living in Rome - do as the Romans do! I'm perfectly happy living in the province and having a small garden and a few animals to provide for my existence. To heck with the city and it's issues with traffic and high rent prices, crime and stress. I prefer roosters a crowing to horns a blarin! My ss gets me by at just under 1k quite comfortably. A monthly budget is hard to define when everyone has a different lifestyle and taste. I like knowing my neighbors and them knowing me. And they aren't on the other side of the wall or right out my door. I thoroughly enjoyed your videos! Keep 'em comin! 👍
Well said dude, its great to see a video of how you can live on a budget , and and still enjoy life, your videoa are an inspiration to people like myself who want to live in the Philippines on a budget, thank again for keeping it real, respect 🏴
Thank you so much for this much needed video. It really does depend on the style of living that you choose as to what it will cost you there. I know I became really discouraged about being able to live in the Philippines after watching so many videos that supported needing a much higher income than what you have stated. You gave me hope. It's all about choices. I really enjoy your videos.
Maybe it was you a few months ago who told me how discouraged she had become hearing other vloggers talk about higher required budgets. That is one of the thoughts in the back of my mind that inspired this video.
I must be blessed, because I haven't seen the videos that you reference😁 I look forward to the video drops here. I dream. I can't imagine leaving my daughter and grandkids. There's the fear factor, going so far away on my own. Oh, and let me tell you what has also given me a reality check, Back in March I was enjoying one of my favorite channels, participating in the live chat when I thought I'd refresh my eyes with some eyedrops. I reached over to the coffee table and grabbed the little bottle, opened it up, positioned it over my eye and squeezed. OMFG!!! INSTANT PAIN ! WTF???? Instinctively I ran to the sprayer at the kitchen sink, screaming bloody murder. My "significant other" came down the stairs, I screamed to call 911. I put eyedrops in my eye, but they weren't eyedrops. I had tossed the bottle when the burning began, so I don't know where the bottle went, the paramedics rushed around looking for where the bottle could have been, I have a lot of stuff I sell on line, and if you don't know what you're looking for🤦♀🤦♀🤷♀turned out to be ACID! The stuff to test gold. I keep it all upstairs in a box, and I hadn't seen or used it in months. Point is, I am fortunate that I didn't lose my eye site. I was at a hospital within 20 minutes and about 2 hours later I was in Miami at the world's top eye hospital! I was blind for about a month, some sympathetic thing your other eye does. I am ever so grateful that GOD allowed me to see again. I think I just said what I needed to see. Instead of me worrying about worse case scenarios, give it to GOD and live the life that I was given. THANK YOU! I'm glad that you left a message that I could relate to @ThereIsSoulInArt GOD's always talking to us, we just need to pay attention. Now, with that said, it may take me more than a few minutes to digest that thought and a few more conversations with my CREATOR before I start booking plane tickets. Sending you both love and LIGHT! 💖💖✨✨
@@Ex-Pensive_Expatit could have been me. If so, I'm honored that you addressed this very real concern. Thank you for giving another viewpoint for others to consider. I so appreciate your videos. I feel you keep it real. :) 😀
I have a hard time spending more than $1000 a month in Thailand. It literally takes effort for me to spend more. I do anything and everything I want to whenever I want. There are guys who seem to have a hard time spending less than 3x that. Usually it's for stupid things. Like a luxury 3 bedroom condo even though they live alone.
It is possible to spend more. Trying to impress everyone is the one thing many bring here from the west. This is the place to get over that. That's the nice thing about SEA
Don't let the trolls get you. I was so pleased to find your channel because that is exactly the life I want to live. Your video's and insights have been invaluable. I appreciate it! Hopefully when I make the jump in a few years we can get together and share stories :)
Thank you so much! I look forward to meeting you when you come

Hey Buddy. Love your vlog. You've been honest about living on your personal way. I have been going back and fort ones a year to PI for almost 8 years and had a house built there but only leave like 4 to 6 months a year. You're right on how to spend your money your way. Good luck and god bless..... San Diego, CA (Paradise Hills).
Good job bro great info it is hard to get a consistent info from vloggers there because of lifestyle deferents but from my wife to be who is from there your numbers are right around what I will need with a wife.
Just found your channel and like others have said appreciate your no-nonsense style and honesty. Like some of the comments below allude to, if you go somewhere completely new, then you adapt to their lifestyle and don't bring all the western attitudes with you. My filipine partner and i are hoping to settle back to the province in the next year and channels like yours fill me with hope more than anything that you can just come and enjoy a simple straightforward life which after the rat-race of being in the West is what i'm really looking forward to. Thanks
I agree with you. $600/month you will leave descent in the province. I knew someone who retired with $700 pension . He leave happy in the Philippines. Here in the US $2,000 pension is not enough
You are exactly right about budget. I had been planning to retire there on about $750 per month. It's more than enough. I've chosen Dominican Republic instead, due to similar budget and a much shorter flight. Flying back to USA several times per year costs what only one flight to the Philippines does.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat It is very similar. I have been to the Philippines 5 times for one month stays. I have a filipina ex wife and our daughter in the USA. It will allow me to see her more easily. Either place can be enjoyable for under a $1000 a month. My budget is $800 with $200 savings per month.
To me you are the Wise man of the Philippines. I have not clue your education background or what you did before. However, you have something many people don't. Common sense and the ability to make others understand your meaning. Keep doing what u do.
True, you can even live less than $500 in the Ph. Know the culture, know their lifestyle and you will be able to live with less. When you experienced living like that, you will realize that we (im Fil-Am), must be contented of what have in US.
Thank you for your honesty, way too many Vloggers are saying that it’s so cheap, it’s all relative, we all know that the USA and Canada and Europe are way too expensive to live without working part time to have some creature comforts… But it’s great to know that if we are willing to drop all the shit we accumulate and really appreciate the simplicity of living smaller we can have a life of peace and tranquility… thank you for bringing us into reality… Keep up the good work..Thank you…
Your spot on with your numbers on budget Your in a outstanding location. Porac very good place. Very good hospitals in area. Outstanding expat food. And this area people are very good Outstanding video. Thank you
Was living in the Philippines for 3 years but had to move back for my senior MediCare. Unfortunately FULL healthcare is as much as the rent! For seniors considering retiring to Asia always factor in $400 - $700/mo for FULL healthcare coverage vs. your home country's plan. (e.g. MediCare in the USA $185/mo). In Asia the monthly premium goes up w/ age and pre-existing conditions.
I self insure at this point. But even with the increased medical insurance costs, considering the rent her I'm still way ahead of the game compared to the $2,000 a month crappy one bed one bath apt in San Diego or most other places I'd consider living. Just my take on it
2 days 5 hours and I will be there for a short 3 weeks exploring Cebu and seeing where my future is going to take me Again and again thank you for your inspirational videos
Omgosh,,you have the legendary Tesla chopper😊,,our Forex balikbayan agent is from Cebu,,they said 1200 is golden, they go home twice a year,,so golden is great,we are figuring 1000$ will do us well😊
The Tesla Chopper is owned by Eric and Mercy at the Drake hotel. They let me take it for a ride!! I met Marco there once and I believe thats where he always stays when he's in town.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I have a Trump hat for Marco, gotta figure out how to get it to him on our vacation in a few weeks,,,but yea the chopper was cool to see again..
Thank you for this! I absolutely agree with your mindset on living outside this country. As long as we leave our “Entitled America Ways” at the departure airport, living a more comfortable, stress free life is obtainable. Love your posts! Keep it going! 😊
Good video, you seem to have your sh*t together! Can you do some more videos on renovating houses and keeping the cost down? I plan on moving to Eastern Samar in the province and will try and do what you did with your house. Keep up the good work, I'm currently in NC
Good Video. I live here in Germany on a Monthly Budget of 800 Euro and have no Problem so why should somone have Problems with that in the Philipines? There are so much dump People in this World. When somone say he can, dont say he dont can. Remember allways no one have to change cause somone say that.
I live in Spain for €7-800/month. Same in Cebu, cooking at home, but food is more expensive and poor quality in the Philly and no medical insurance. In Spain medical is free, big advantage in case I need care.
I really enjoy taking a tricycle for around, a 15 mile round trip to town to the Atm, market, 7-11 to the hardware store the bakery. To my land where Im building a 2 bed 2 CR house. Driver picks up 3 or 4 people on the way. Like you said it is a great way to meet people. I pay driver about $3.50 a day because I spend maybe a 1/2 hr at the land and he waits on me.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I live in Anda Bohol for the last 10 months. And I am building in Guindulman. Small town on the coast. No tourist, which I really like. House I rent 3 bed 2 cr. for $180.
Great vlog as usual,I share your mindset and plan to make my first visit to SEA in January for a 4 months test run,the west has nothing of value for me anymore I just want a more humble life much like yourself, best wishes
I live on $700 a month income in the US an manage to put back a bit of that. My unavoidable spending is around $300 a month. Everything else is lifestyle upgrades. Mind you I had a good start. I own my family's historical home in the mountains. I was raised by my frugal grandparents. I was taught the power of roommates. People are generally just bad with money. They think they will die without a 12 pack a night an a new truck in the driveway. They want to live in a nice house in the city. They need to eat out because they never learned to cook. They pay $10 for a bowl of chili. I make a whole pot of chili for $6, costing me less than $1 a bowl. Budget is a matter of knowledge. Do you know how to save money, or have you never learned. Most people never learn. They then get on the Internet an cry about how expensive life is.
I was taught to save but not how to avoid a bad investment. Or not marrying the wrong person. Life is a lot more simple here now. Nice to hear things are working well for you there . That is a rare story these days
We live well in the province with massive lot and big house with A/C and yes the ocean is right here, but we rent. Capital city of provonce and modern hospital is 20 min away.We are between 35-40K peso a month including VISA extensions. I will say our budget gets increased when I start missing western steak. So yes your budget is realistic
Every day my GF in Luzon told me to buy a house. Every day for 6 months. I just laughed. Next the whole damn family started telling me to buy a “big house”. Ruined my Bday party. Everyone in her family had their hands in my pockets. I was gone the next day. Never even said good bye.
Thanks For The Tips, You Have Said, And As Long As You Are Living The Life You Want For As Much As You Want To Spend, You Have Something Over The Naysayers. You Put Out Some Good Content, Thank You, Sir.
In the video I wasn't talking negative about those who live the high life at all. I was talking about the ones who put down those who have a lower budget and choose to live differently
My brother arrived in the Philippines about 2 weeks ago. So I’ve been watching a good bit of UA-cam content on retiring there.. I actually just watched a video of some guy in BGC who said his monthly budget is around $5000-$6000usd. What in the world?!! Clearly I am NOT their target audience 😂. So grateful to have found your channel. Your content is real & relatable. Thank you for what you do!
There are a lot of them here for sale every where. That was an electric one. You don't need a license here to ride one. That scooter belonged to Marc from Overstay Road if you ever saw his channel. Eric and Mercy own it now at The Drake Hotel in Angeles City
Completely right! After doing a lot of research, it's easy to find a family sized home for P.20,000 a month, im looking at the province of Butaan. The only part i havent yet figured out is the medical expenses. I'd be looking to move to PI with a budget around £1.2k a month for me and my wife. Picking the right area really is the key.
Butaan or Bataan. There is good medical here. My Dr Visits are $8 each then he may determine I should see a specialist if he sees something questionable
@Ex-Pensive_Expat wow, the prices on those medical visits seem really affordable! I'm looking at Bataan, I'm thinking the outakirts/ suburbs of Balanga. It seems to have all the markets and everything you'd need, and also close enough to get to airports and beaches to be able to travel around easily.
There will be a bridge that will connect Bataan to Cavite. That bridge will cross the Manila Bay. So going to Manila from Bataan will be a short ride in the future. Not to mention that the land prices will increase in Bataan. So secure your land there before the land prices will shoot up.
Hello and thanks for another good video, I'm traveling from that dark cold wet Denmark here in November to Dumagete again so maybe we'll meet there and maybe we could drink a cup of coffee or something else if you have time and feel like it. good bless you 🙏🌞😎🇵🇭🇩🇰👍
First time on your channel. I agree everyone’s life is different. If you enjoy your life, then it none of my business, nor is it my business to grade you on your lifestyle. That said, ain’t that 3 wheeler, old Overstay the Road, Mark or Marcus old bike?
Great video. You are staying 10 miles from this spot. That short distance makes quite a difference in price. Many "perfect" spots shown by youtoobers is 20 hr flight then 4 or 5 hour buss ride to some perfect place. I love the grocery walk through video. Same for the provence house you showed. Keep up the great work. A youtoobe that does not hide the truth is refreshing. CHuCK in Alaska
Yes for sure. I actually included in one of my videos a walk from one end to the other so people could see it's really nothing in the big picture. I did it around noon and basically avoid the place. I have a lot of footage of AC that I will include in a Video but none of it will include WS.

I enjoy watching your videos. My fiancé and I live in La Union. Province life here. I set our budget at $1200 a month. I’ve only been here for about 3 months now and besides the first month we have been under budget. We enjoy life and eat very well. I would struggle to live this way in the states on my total income. My budget does plan for traveling. Almost a third of it is for taking trips.
My brother continue doing what you do for you and whatever makes you happy. Live your life as you say it. The only class they ever had was in school. I love you Contant. Keep up the good work. See you soon. Oh, I forgot they didn’t live that type of lifestyle in the states, if they did, they would’ve stayed Philippines it’s simple and comfortable a place to live a normal lifestyle without all the stress creates stress when there’s no need
I swear,, some expats suffer from ""Stress Deficiency Syndrome"" when they first get here. It's so interesting to watch. Looking back I probably had that worse than most
Once you get "setup" then it just does not take much to live over there especially in the province. let's see......semi furnished apartment 6500 internet included, tap water 100, drinking water 100, electric was 727 we just use fans, motorbike 400 petrol, insurance and registration 200 per month, food i will be very liberal here and say 4k per week but i dont think we actually spend that much and MIsc 4k per month. That is pretty close to what we spent so that is 28,027 pesos devided by the current exchange rate $483.22. That is just basic living expenses but don't really feel like we are just existing, we go where we want when we want on the motorbike and eat whatever we want to. My income is around $1600 per month and we come no where near spending all that per month.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat we live in Kalibo so its province living. 1 km from the apartment and we are in the rice fields, not much further and we can be in the hills.
LOL... I almost spit out my tea when you said "the only time those guys had class was when they had to sit in detention".. I have a FB group for living on less, frugal tips etc... and the things that some people think are necessities are just not even a want for many others. I watch many YT channels and one guy who I liked at first, has a fakey type lifestyle of minimalism frugality in my mind because he has over time revealed several sources of income that add up to way more than the 'budget'. Which I do not hate him for it, but what I did not like is that he got subscribers by portraying a 'budget' type of travel. Sure you can travel on 1500 a month when you know you got thousands coming in because anything crazy happens and you got it covered. So the cracks in the show are getting bigger, and the budget on that channel has gotten bigger as well. The reason I tell this story is because you mentioned BCG and massages and all that.. spot on. What I think is authentic, is someone that has a budget based on their income, not some 'experiment in poverty' designed by some rich person.
Glad you saw the humor. I have a bit in every video but I think most people don't realize it was a joke that I made on purpose.. Hahaha.. Mainly because I am so straight with it. lol. My budget was requested many times until I finally did one. My income is more than $600 and I spend more mostly fixing this house or travel. The point is not everyone travels. Not everyone does a lot of things or has the same hobbies. But the $600 is undeniable it you watch the video. People can all see and say based on that I would spend this much and I would have ex amount left over. I really only included housing food utilities that is at comfortable minimum. I made that budget originally so I knew how much I could spend fixing the house traveling or what ever. That is my budget and everything else is optional. Thank you for the comments. I might enjoy your Facebook Group.
I try to be straight up on what life can be like here. Anyone can go live in the condos and get a long fine if their budget is big enough. But others of us want more out of the Philippines than hanging out or being trapped in that environment.
Something never ever discussed... You can't compare a 40, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 year old living anywhere cost wise... A 40 year old eats three times what a 70 can eat.. a 60 year old drinks eats needs 1/3 rd what a 45 year old to 55 year old needs,. my point... as we age we just need and often desire a lot less of just about everything other then a comfort zone temp wise humidity wise and piece of mind wise... the older you are the less you need.
Haha i remember that Tesla chopper on overstay road.Did you buy it?Yes you are right in your vid,its up to the individual on how much you want to spend in life.tc buddy👍
Hi Darrell. I completely agree 💯% with you, when you say it all depends in what type of living (western style or local/Filipino style) someone wants to live. Where you want to live (I.T. Park, Cebu city /B.G.C. or a province style living) . Many times, that "decision" will depend on what someone can "afford" on their income/retirement or s.s.income. Great 👍 points my friend. Take care and be well.
I appreciate you sir for being down to earth about explaining it helps me because I don't have a large income but I am coming anyway because I want. Your videos are very helpful thank you so much sir I hope that I'll be able to meet you at some point once I get there this is really been very helpful for me
I like your videos I don’t think you sugarcoat anything. I think you tell it like it is and I think your budgets are legit me. I like to travel. I don’t know when or if I’ll set up a homebase when I get to the Philippines, there are several places I’m looking at for possibilities but Nothing definite there’s too much to do and too much to see to be tied down to one place and I know that’s gonna make my budget a little more expensive but that’s OK. I’ve planned for it. I know what it’s gonna cost me and I’ll be just fine, but what I won’t haveis the stress and the daily grind of the good old USA
One thing to think about. If you're not planning on a home base, only bring what you'll want to travel with until you find tat place. Then you can have everything shipped over. We don't really have storage units like in the US. My friend left for 6 months and needed up having to rent an apartment to store his things until he got back
Very well put. It really depends on your lifestyle and personal needs. Personally I like Porac. The Poracono's treat me as cabalen and having family in just about every barangay is a great support net.
I've always said that if you can buy a lot and build a small house cash, all you got is electricity, water, visa fees and food. I'm a home body person so I see myself and my wife living with $500 to $600 a month with about $100 a month for misc. or unexpected expenses and still save halve of my SS in case I have to come go back to the us.
I currently live in western Europe and am considered poor due to my income (approximately 800 euros) but like you I'm happy. I love your outlook on life, it's so refreshing when I look at all the consumerism in the west and those that try to take it with them overseas. By the way did you go for a Murphy bed and fold down table?
Living on a small or large budget is all relative... between simply surviving and or living comfortably. Our electric bill in Samar runs around $200, but we have no housing costs. We wouldn't want to live there without the creature comforts one would desire to have to live a comfortable retirement. Bahala na as they say here!
I came from Olangapo and walk passed walking street from the bus terminal but never see it. Biggest saver in ph is rent so ofcasise you can live cheaper in ph.
Darrell, I believe that I will be able to live in the Philippines for less than what it cost here. I will also be able to save some money every month. I will only be getting the average amount on Social Security. I would not be able to do this in the US.
So many seniors in the USA live in poverty, but could live so much better in a country like Philippines, Cambodia or Vietnam. Sadly the American mind set does not allow for such thinking. My husband and I are retiring to S.E. Asia in 6 days! Escaping the American dream. Woo Hoo! Thanks for another great video.
I was stationed at Clark after the Viet Nam war. Many of the men I was stationed with have returned there in retirement and are living happy lives. Question: Is the white tax still in existence. I know I had a Philippine friend buy me produce to avoid the tax way back in the day. Good videos. Very interesting to see all the differences.
Hey buddy! I just watched your video . I'm Filipino that live here in the US . I'm retired and really want to retired there in the Philippines . My SS pension is a little bit more than a $1000 a month and always thought it's not enough to retired there . Watching your video gives me hope . Do you happen to have pictures or videos of the cheap rent of your talking about ? And where is this place your at ? Please communicate with me I need to know .
I live in Porac. I have a few videos of places near here. Let me know what you think and questions you may have. ua-cam.com/video/G017DFa9gkg/v-deo.html
I enjoyed your vlog once again. i love your humor. i live in the country in the US with my Filipina wife of almost 14 yrs. if we make it there i plan for it to be in the province also. i make enough to live ok there however her family retired when she married me. so i might go broke there if i was close enough to have to feed 15-20 people every day. so it may just be cheaper to stay here lol.
There actually are a lot of other countries with low cost of living. If you come I might recommend you nip that in the bud when you're first asked for a loan. My policy is ""If you can't give it to someone don't give it to them""
Hi Darrell , great content , Budgets all depend on your life stile , If you are spending your days in AC on walking st, Drinking all day taking in the entertainment your going to spend alot of money, And you likely wont be able to travel and enjoy the rest of the country,
I'd love to live a bit into the provinces but need more advanced health care so it's looking like Cebu or Davao. Arrive early Dec. I dig what you're doing and your outlook. Subscribed and Best Regards and Best Wishes!.
Thank you so much my friend. I think my biggest interest is to visit Davao of those two. You might also look into Baguio. I hear they also have some amazing medical there
I have around a 175k monthly income and you can live an amazing life here on that. I am pretty minimalistic, so I save about 70% of my income here. Plan to stay for the next 5-10 years, then move back to Canada.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat You can most definitely live in the province on 600 usd regardless of what other UA-camrs say if you dont waste money on unnecessary things though. Great for you!
There is no wrong way or place if you're happy my friend. The reason I have this channel is because I've become happier than I thought possible at this point in my life. For me it just happens to be the province at this point.
I don't drink, as in daily weekly or monthly, I drink if I feel like having a drink.. Because I don't go out much or entertain like I once did or own and ride Harley's anymore.. like many who age out of it... I don't have the life of a single biker anymore if ya get my drift... my point is as a 67 year old in good health who rarely drinks has no drug habits and a very cheap prescription cost per month.. less then 20 bucks... I can agree with this youtuber.... I live in SC on less then 600 bucks a month.. so I could easily do it there if I had 95 dollar a month rent to pay...
I still like $350+ bottles of bourbon. I just don't buy it any more because I just can't justify the cost vs benefit. Woodford reserve or bullet is good enough, at least by the 2nd glass. How much does a local there need to be middle class level of comfort?
I totally agree that your budget should not be your income. If you're not saving or have an emergency/bailout fund, then you are a fool . Never ever forget that you are a guest in a foreign country and can be asked to leave for a multitude of reasons. Don't come to the philippines for a woman as that is a fools journey. Come for yourself and your own personal agenda. Financial reasons are obviously at the top of the list, and that is a noble reason to move halfway around the world because it makes sense. Do a self evaluation of your health both physical and mental to make sure you can handle the cultural and infrastructure changes that you will encounter in a developing country. If you are handicapped or have multiple pre-existing conditions, then perhaps you should re-evaluate your decision to come. It's a leap of faith, so do your homework and make those recon missions to several different locations at different times of the year. Take advantage of the one month visa free visit and book several different accommodations in different locations in the philippines. You will know when you find a place that is suitable for you when all your needs are met and perhaps a few wants as well. Good luck.

Thank you for your comments. This is what people need to see from those who have actually been here
I love your videos they are real, honest and truthful and have many ideas on how you can live on a budget. I think the people that disagree, do not have money worries then theses videos are not for you. You watch what you want and what applies to you and learn through what you see, research done for you! Thanks Darrell for all the work you put into your videos, they are very much appreciated.
Thank you Nicola for the kind words. It always means so much to me
I respect you!
Thank you so very much!!
Thank you my friend!! Great information

Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the comment George!!

@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Salamat, I'm on Negros.

You're not going to find a lot of places to stay in that area for that price. It's just not reality.
You are exactly right about budget. I had been planning to retire there on about $750 per month. It's more than enough. I've chosen Dominican Republic instead, due to similar budget and a much shorter flight. Flying back to USA several times per year costs what only one flight to the Philippines does.

There will be a bridge that will connect Bataan to Cavite. That bridge will cross the Manila Bay. So going to Manila from Bataan will be a short ride in the future. Not to mention that the land prices will increase in Bataan. So secure your land there before the land prices will shoot up.

Hello and thanks for another good video, I'm traveling from that dark cold wet Denmark here in November to Dumagete again so maybe we'll meet there and maybe we could drink a cup of coffee or something else if you have time and feel like it. good bless you 🙏🌞😎🇵🇭🇩🇰👍
I am in Pampanga near Angeles City. So I won't be in theta area. If you make it up here I would love to meet up!!
Good video. Loved the three wheeler bike/mobility scooter. Is that battery. Walking street is normal, okay for a few drinks.
Yes that is an electric scooter that belonged to Mark from Overstay Road channel
First time on your channel. I agree everyone’s life is different. If you enjoy your life, then it none of my business, nor is it my business to grade you on your lifestyle.
That said, ain’t that 3 wheeler, old Overstay the Road, Mark or Marcus old bike?
Yes That's Marco's Tesla Chopper. Thank you for watching I hope you enjoyed the video
@ i did enjoy.

Thank you Chuck!
Love your videos mates, never any bullshit, keep them coming mate.
Thank you Doug
There was (is) a lot more to AC, Balibago "Redlight" Tourist / Expat area than Fields Ave "Walking St" ..
Yes for sure. I actually included in one of my videos a walk from one end to the other so people could see it's really nothing in the big picture. I did it around noon and basically avoid the place. I have a lot of footage of AC that I will include in a Video but none of it will include WS.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I had a lot of wild & crazy "old fashioned" fun there, in the smaller bars pre "Walking St" Tourist Trap Days ..
I often wonder how it looked in those days

"Way Better" pre Night Club, pre Korea / Asian & UA-cam Tourist Trap Days ("no offense to Koreans") .. The Sml Bars & Honey-tonks, where a blast .. Way more "intimate & innocent" and Everything was "So Cheap" & catered to the "Cheap Charlies" .. Mamma-suns & the Service was amazing ..
Is it possible to send handicap bar to set up the bathroom outside to make it accessible
Yes I think so I don't see why not
I enjoy watching your videos.
That's awesome my friend . Thank you for sharing. Where in LaUnion are you living

How's the outdoor bar coming along?
It's good the bar top should be here any day. I will have couple things to update by then
My brother continue doing what you do for you and whatever makes you happy.
That's awesome my friend Thank you for sharing. It give hope to know reality and to know there are other who also enjoy their life on lower budgets.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat we live in Kalibo so its province living. 1 km from the apartment and we are in the rice fields, not much further and we can be in the hills.

Great Vlog Daryl!
Glad you enjoyed it
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat sure.. its called "Single Income: living on less".
Right on! Tell it like it is.
Thanks for sharing. I actually hadn't thought about that
Haha i remember that Tesla chopper on overstay road.Did you buy it?Yes you are right in your vid,its up to the individual on how much you want to spend in life.tc buddy👍
No It belongs to Eric and Mercy at the Drake hotel there in Angeles City. That's where Mark stays when he's in town. I did meet him there
Thank you for the kind words
Great Video as Always Brother! 🎉 I'm here on a bit under $2k/mo. That's putting some away each month as well, so living Affordable is very doable.

Thank you for your kind words my friend
I've always said that if you can buy a lot and build a small house cash, all you got is electricity, water, visa fees and food. I'm a home body person so I see myself and my wife living with $500 to $600 a month with about $100 a month for misc. or unexpected expenses and still save halve of my SS in case I have to come go back to the us.
That is certainly doable without any real sacrifice
I currently live in western Europe and am considered poor due to my income (approximately 800 euros) but like you I'm happy.
I love your outlook on life, it's so refreshing when I look at all the consumerism in the west and those that try to take it with them overseas.
By the way did you go for a Murphy bed and fold down table?
I have considered that idea. I just got the electrical in and then once the walls and floor is in I will make that decision
Hi, Daryl. Well said. Enjoy your life.
Thank you!!
Living on a small or large budget is all relative... between simply surviving and or living comfortably. Our electric bill in Samar runs around $200, but we have no housing costs. We wouldn't want to live there without the creature comforts one would desire to have to live a comfortable retirement. Bahala na as they say here!
I would say my life is and upscale life in the province!! I'm loving it everyday my friend
I came from Olangapo and walk passed walking street from the bus terminal but never see it. Biggest saver in ph is rent so ofcasise you can live cheaper in ph.
Yes if you budget a couple hundred you will have a lot of options. Also up to $400 very easily. It really depends on where you land
Darrell, I believe that I will be able to live in the Philippines for less than what it cost here. I will also be able to save some money every month. I will only be getting the average amount on Social Security. I would not be able to do this in the US.
You will find the Philippines very welcoming. Let me know if I can help you
So many seniors in the USA live in poverty, but could live so much better in a country like Philippines, Cambodia or Vietnam. Sadly the American mind set does not allow for such thinking. My husband and I are retiring to S.E. Asia in 6 days! Escaping the American dream. Woo Hoo! Thanks for another great video.
If you guys are ever in the area let me know. I'd love to meet you
I was stationed at Clark after the Viet Nam war. Many of the men I was stationed with have returned there in retirement and are living happy lives. Question: Is the white tax still in existence. I know I had a Philippine friend buy me produce to avoid the tax way back in the day. Good videos. Very interesting to see all the differences.
Today known as "Skin Tax" it does happen but not as much from what I can tell. Clark is about 8 to 10 miles away from me
My policy is ""If you can't give it to someone don't give it to them""
Hi Darrell , great content , Budgets all depend on your life stile , If you are spending your days in AC on walking st, Drinking all day taking in the entertainment your going to spend alot of money, And you likely wont be able to travel and enjoy the rest of the country,
Yes. I almost never go there and never in the bars or in the evening
I hear they also have some amazing medical there
I loved it in ph. In a province in Thailand now.
I have friends who love it there too
I have around a 175k monthly income and you can live an amazing life here on that. I am pretty minimalistic, so I save about 70% of my income here. Plan to stay for the next 5-10 years, then move back to Canada.
Very nice!! What area do you live now?
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat In Makati. Considered the province, but prefer to be near to hospitals and just travel around from here.

Less than $400 a month +/- from the people I know
love the honesty brother, safe journey
Thank you my friend. I just had to get some of that off my chest. Hahaha...
Been humble bless
Good luck.
Thank you for sharing Gail. Nice to see you again
