I have a gravely pro turn 148 that seems to have the exact same issue as the mower in this video, right down to problem worsening as the unit heats up. Know of any good resources pertaining to that particular model?
I love the replaceable valve plates. Cheaper for the do-it-yourselfer, rather than replacing the whole center section. Thanks really love the content !!!
I have a Z-spray fertilizer spreader that I believe uses the tuff torque transaxle. I need to replace one of the axle shafts because the hub was loose on one end and rounded out the axle shaft and the hub. So far this is the closest video I came across showing the tear down but I know the transaxle in my unit is different. Good work!
Thank You so much. Ive been on vacation and haven't gotten mine back together. But this was a great detailed video of the case being split. I really appreciate it!
I have a 2017 Z535M (John Deere) it has 159 hours, both transmissions were replaced under warranty. The the left transmission started doing the same as yours. I was thinking about fixing it, but the cost of replacing is more than the mower would be worth. Even the John Deere mechanic said John Deere has had a lot of problems with those transmissions. Im just going to part out mine. Has a very good 25 horsepower Briggs engine, I'm going to put on an old Yazoo (2004)
I’m a hobbiest mechanic of sorts , mid 80s diesel Mercedes model w123 has my intrigue for its engineering . When you started finding plastic pieces I was guessing the problem to be a bearing casing . Theirs a fine little bearing on these cars that live an extreme existence as part of the vacuum pump , these will grenade then the fine bearings will find their way into the chain area while ping ponging down to the pan . The reason for the plastic must be to leave a chance to restoring operation without wasting the complete unit .
Fixed! The orientation of the block that is on the horizontal shaft matters! That’s what I get for using pictures from the left side on the right side… Thank you again!
Awesome video. I caught it mid flight but I did give you a huge thumbs up and subscribed. I have a Z525E that a customer had dropped off. He purchased this from another and upon initial inspection from the outside, someone had filled each transmission with trans fluid instead of the correct oil. The right side is still spinning but still needs the fluid drained out. The left side, not to lucky. It had a axle seal that has been leaking for quite sometime. I have a huge puddle in the driveway. I ordered the seal since I hope there is nothing wrong with the unit. I called Tuff Torq after not hearing from them for a few days. I did talk to a tech there that had helped me out making sure that I had the right transmission number. 7D-L0109678. I ordered 4 of those seals just incase.
Do you feel like hydrogear is a better trans? Which ones do you feel like have less problems and of the problems you see with both, which cost less in repairs?
Great video! I like how you do close-ups and explain the whole thing. What is your opinion in quality between the Tuff Torq and hydro gear zt transmissions?
Great question. I just bought a cub cadet zt2 and it came w a tuff torq tz350 hydro. I thought it was a 2800 hydro. Not sure if I should b concerned since this one isn’t meant to change the filters just change fluid.
Great video. I have a 2012 Ferris. Goes forward fine but in reverse one side is weak. The question is how do I determine if it is the Hydro Gear pump or the wheel motor? Which one do I take apart?
These models have unlimited hours warranty for the first 2 yrs OR 3yr 1200hr -1500 hr warranty (depending on the model ). The mower in this video was only 1 yr old.
What model Tuff Torq is it that costs $2000? Even if it is a K60 or K56 it should not be near that much. Looks like the piston face and valve plate scoring was the main cause of drive failure. Thanks for the video.
Hi James, it's super easy. In this video I show how to look up every part on your John Deere. ua-cam.com/video/9JgYcXJhQvM/v-deo.html Also I mistakenly refer to deere.com as an app in the video. It's just a website.
@@rigomartinez5836 that is the exact same issue that the transmission in this video had. Once it cooled off it would work again and not make any noise. When its cools off the oil is thicker
Hello! I finally got both transmissions back together and installed. The right one is reverse. Pushing on handle causes it to go in reverse, pulling on it goes forward. Seems like reverse is much faster like forward would be. Any ideas how I could have possibly screwed this up!? According to schematic hydraulic lines at front are on correct. Has to be something directional inside? Z930a
Are those gold looking things that you mention are separate part numbers in the video? I wonder if I have to change orientation or swap them from shaft they are currently on. Anyway to tell for sure they on right? 😬 Thank you!
@@squeaky61 yes its the gold plate looking things. Id honestly have to reference my video to remember which one goes to which shaft. I think you need to change which pump they are on
Ok. I’ll try it. Thank you. Funny cuz on the left one I was sure I mixed them up. On the right one, I was sure I kept them correct as I saw in your video they are different part numbers. 🤷♂️🤦🏼♂️

Thank You very much for information and advice 😊
First mistake was waiting way too long to fix it, once they first started to lose any power/ slow motion
Stop it 😢😢😢
You will save lots of money 😊😊😊

Sorry - but plastic bearing retainers? Uh, no reasonable reason to implement those in this transmission.
I film everything I do, otherwise I forget everything
wow people really let these mowers go to shit thing looks pitiful
Fully agree probably let grass build up on the transaxle cooling fins and over heated it, causing that plastic bearing cage to melt. Just a thought.
