  • This is a continuation of a video I posted last month where I show how to remove your Ztracks transmission. I showed some internal damage it had after 2400 hrs.
    In this video I show the worst internal damage we have see on a much newer mower with far less hours on it. This mower is a 2020 Z920 with only 900 hours!
    I show some things to look out for and some tips to reinstall the hydro.
    Thanks for watching and dont forget to Subscribe! 🍻🇺🇸

    I changed my z920m hydro oils extra early (59 hours on the machine) just to swap the oil for a higher quality full synthetic since I couldn’t find any good info on jd hygard.
    From what I could find hygard looks to be a semi synthetic. I swapped for schaeffers full synthetic 315 THF since it had the best wear tests and I could buy it in a 2.5gal container over amsoil 5gal bucket.
    You were right about the machine having a larger capacity mine took about one and a half gallons to refill after doing both hydros the tank and filters.
    Schaeffers also beat amsoil by 0.01mm on the wear scar test. Also swapped the engine oil even though they say you don’t need to do a break in oil change. I swapped it at 19 hours for amsoil full synthetic small engine oil and a larger wix filter.
    This better be the last damn mower I ever buy, stuffs just getting to damn expensive these days.

      Thanks Ricky. Im currently making a video on rebuilding one of these transmissions oit of a Z930M. Hopefully parts will be in this Thursday and I hope to have the video out this weekend. It was loosing power after getting warmed up and would get weaker. Finally a situation where its doesn't need to be fully repalced.

    My question is why all the loose sealer in that transmission? That alone could have blocked up the filter causing overheating and lead to failure. the other complaint is why didn't they include clearance for those two mount bolts? It would have been simple to shape the metal so the bolt to clear. Left hand should talk to the right hand in a case like that.

    Thanks for the very informative videos! Do you have a video on installing a rebuild kit on a Ztrak hydrostatic transmission? I had to replace a axel seal on my Z540M and I used your axel seal video for that. I need to install a rebuild kit in a JD MIA12728 I don’t have a clue as to go about it. Tuff Torq does not have any instructional videos for their rebuild kits. Any assistance would be great! Thanks for the great videos and Be Safe!

      Hey JD. I dont have a video on removing a Z540s hydro but I did do one recently and its easier than the Z900s. Just make sure its upside down when you open it up so parts dont fall out all over the place. Take photos and videos as you take it apart to help you keep track of how to put it back. Thats what I do any time I work on something Im not familiar with.

      They both will dry rot and start leaking so I would do them at the same time. It would be extremely difficult to replace them while still mounted in the frame. The top pulley has to be removed to be able to replace the plug. Thanks for watching

      @@Mechanical_Mind Hey bud…thanks…you were right. The other seal was dry rotted also. I almost blew it off but figured I would see how much I learned the first time! I did find a few tricks. The shaft which goes to the lever with the 13M holding it in, I believe the brake, should be tied up to the battery cable in front of the oil tank to keep it out of the way. Also, using a long 9MM box end wrench with a little silicone dabbed on it will hold the slip nut for reinstall on the release lever and gives you the leverage to force it on while holding the shaft down with a screw driver. Thanks for all you help. Second one I got done in couple hours instead of all day! How much would a dealership charge to charge these two seals? I need to make sure all the new DeWalts I purchased are less than the labor!!! LOL Have a great day!

    I have a TZT13 on my Deere Z960M which I assume is the same one you're showing here. I just noticed a seepage (no drips yet, but it's pretty wet) on the right side transmission at the wheel. I assume the axle seal is bad? If that's it, I assume that can be popped out with no issue with simply removing the wheel and hub? I don't see any other leaks. Sure seems like it's coming from around the axle, but for now I just cleaned it off and will check it again the next time I use it and then look again to see if I can confirm that's the source of the seepage.

    • @Mechanical_Mind
      @Mechanical_Mind  Рік тому

      The worst part about doing a axle seal replacement is getting the old hub off. They are pressed on so tight that the mechanics I work with used to think it it was nearly impossible to remove them and reuse them. They used to always cut them off and charge the customer for a new hub. I made a puller you can see in this video that now allows me to quickly remove and reuse the hub. ua-cam.com/video/55mqN9McV-w/v-deo.html. This also saves the customer $150. Even with that puller ( that I had to strengthen up several times) I sometimes have to smack the hub with a hammer while the puller has max pressure on it.
      Now if you have newer (I think 2021 or newer) the made the hub and shaft all one pc and the hydro will have to be removed and split to change out that axle shaft / hub seal. Which is really really bad. It will be a drastically more costly and time consuming job to do on newer Z900s. Its also a common issue when string/ rope/ twine or wire get wrapped up on the axle shaft it will mess up the seal and cause a leak.

    Hey man, any tips on removing the pulley from the top of one of these? Is there a special puller for this? I’m having trouble getting the pulley off mine. Also can you replace as seal under the pulley without splitting the case? That’s where mine is leaking.

    • @Mechanical_Mind
      @Mechanical_Mind  Місяць тому

      Pullers will often bent the pulley. They way I remove it is by driving two or 3 chisels under the edge of the pulley, every spread out. The chisels just need to be driven between the case and pulley just enough to apply pressure upwards. Then tap the shaft with a hammer. The pulley will pop loose. Loosen the nut and back it off until the top of the nut is flush with the top of the shaft. That will help prevent damaging the shaft thread.
      Yes that plug can be replaced easily once the pulley is off and no need to split the case. Also I'd replace the shaft seal that is under the pulley. That is also a common source of oil leaks.

    • @Mechanical_Mind

      Yes you can do the pulley shaft seal without splitting it. You will need to remove the hydro from the mower to have enough room. I just use a pick or screw driver to pry the old one out. Also replace that rubber plug that is under the pulley. Those plugs leak from dry rott cracks
