A Special Farewell Flight of Hi Fly A380 - Fly-Bys and Heart in the Sky

- Hi Fly operated their last A380 flight and I was the only passenger invited onboard this special farewell flight. We departed Beja, Portugal for Toulouse. Immediately after take-off, the A380 performed several fly-bys to bid farewell to her base and the crowd. The A380 flew at very low speed along with high-speed fly-bys and pulled some "Gs" like she was performing at an air show.
Then we proceed to the Atlantic Ocean to draw a "heart shape" flight path to say thank you to the A380 before proceeding to Toulouse, France, where she was built 14 years ago. I toured the empty cabin on both the upper deck and the lower deck. The crew served a light lunch before landing. The CEO of Hi Fly, Paulo Mirpuri, explained the meaning behind the special paint "Save the Coral Reef".
The weather improved upon arrival at Toulouse, so we flew over the airfield to salute the A380 before a final stop landing. Farewell Hi Fly A380 "Save the Coral Reef".
The Hi Fly A380 was significant, according to Captain Carlos Mirpuri, due to the nature of her charter, the Hi Fly A380 flew to many airports that had never received an A380 before.
It was the first to land in Wuhan, China, following the coronavirus outbreak to repatriate European citizens. Recently, it completed a round the world humanitarian mission, which lasted four days, starting and ending in Beja, Portugal. It covered 31,047 kms in a flight time of 33 hours and 45 minutes, with stops in Tianjin and Santo Domingo.

It seems to me like it was yesterday that the a380's started flying, it is a real shame to see them retire.
Nah, with the new aircraft regulations, every airline HAS to have 1 A380 and 747 in operations for every boring aircraft they have (737, 777, A330 etc)
So they will be flying for quite some time, and then we will change regulations to DETOPS 5 for the twins, only 5 minute flying time from a suitable airport...

Not really a shame. The a380 is just not very economically viable anymore with efficiency becoming a staple of the industry.

What a unique livery, really made it stand out among other airplanes. Such an important message
53 different destinations, and I know airports were blessed to have an A380 visit them for the first time. It had a very good run. Sad to see it go. Hopefully the community will remember its message

@@jonpetter8921 London Heathrow and Paris CDG are two that I'm sure of. Others are on the 777-300ER at the moment due to low demand because of the pandemic.

Delighted to see the original Singapore Airlines seats and interior. I remember watching it arrive on its maiden flight into Changi International Airport back in 2007.
Follow this A380 since the development, its maiden flight on 2005, amazed by its documentation on NatGeo’s Megastructure, entertained by the Flightplan Movie (2005) which inspired by A380 and really happy was 6 times onboard this Majestic on the sky with Singapore Air business class from SIN-ZRH vv, now really sad to know she’s entering the retirement 😒

Watching this video feels a lot of pain in my heart. I am proud of this masterpiece of European engineering and also proud of being able to fly with the Airbus 380 several times. On the other hand, its a shame and makes me angry how this exhibit has been treated by the politicians and CEOs of all Flight Companies.

This was the first A380 I flew on when it was 9V-SKC with Singapore Airlines in 2008, good times 👍🏻
It's really sad to witness these majestic aircrafts Retire prematurely, but I'm grateful that I got the pleasure to fly on this HiFly A380-800 back in 2018.
The Manouverability of this Beast, The Roar of the Rolls Royce Trent Engines, The Grand Nature of an Airbus A380 will be remembered for decades to come. Airbus really achieved something through this Aircraft. I personally never got to fly in one though. :((((
The A380 would make an outstanding firefighting platform. I hope they find their way into that service.

I remember seeing one on a show flight when they were first released and looked like it could turn on a penny and its size was incredible! It was the wirral show in Merseyside near Liverpool England! Seeing it flying over our river seemed to dwarf everything!

But this car was probably engineered in another planet. in two years Tesla will be selling 4 million cars, and about 5 or 6 million more EV from other manufacturers. While oil prices and big oil firms will evaporate. You research is as fake as those great middle East metropolis built on shifting sand, without soul, or meaningful life of its own.

@@theworldisyours6073 Hybrids are the most complex and costly contraptions devised by the traditional car makers to keep the ICE alive, because of their higher gas mileage. But the most efficient and clean way to go is pure electric. I am not here to educate you but try to find out about what is really going on, and once you get your facts straits contact me then. So we will be able to carry an educated conversation forward.
I’m blown away by the loss of both the A-380 and the 747-800. I just didn’t see these aircraft retiring in less than 25-30 years of use.

Although, I worked primarily on the 747 the A380 was a great airplane. It seems like yesterday it came out. Happy Retirement!!

I remember my first flight [BA] Jnb to London using the legendary 747 then a return on a A380. It’s sad to lose two of my favourites in a space of 2 years
I am emotional for a380 retirement, "LONG LIVE A380".
I flew on a Qantas A380 several times to Melbourne, Australian from Los Angeles and back. My first trip over there was in a 747 and it wasn't too bad. My second, third, and fourth trips over there were on an A380. All 6 of those 15+ hour flights were a dream on the A380 compared to the 747. Quieter, smoother, and roomier. The snack bar was a plus as well. The 747 will always be the queen of the skies, but the A380 was an absolute dream to fly on. 10/10 would fly on again. I'm sad they're retiring, even though my trips to Australia are long behind me.

A beautiful aircraft sadly a victim of changing markets, I've had the pleasure of flying A380 both in BA and Lufthansa colours and its one of the most pleasurable purring kittens.

This day, sky was this blue clear, such usual here in Portugal, I was walking Avenida Luisa Todi, in Setúbal when I noticed a four engines aircraft over the city. I always prefer to fly older aircraft to have a chance before they are retired. Until last year I always postponed to fly the A380 as I thought it will be with us for at least a decade or so. It turned out to be a great decision to book a flight on one of them across the Atlantic it was one of the best flying experience I ever had. Really sad to see them going.
Fun fact : this is the first ever built a380 841 or 861 depending on engine type

@Z It's too inefficient and expensive, with 4 engines and airlines are struggling to fill it up with passengers. It's cheaper to fly 2 Boeing 787 jets than it is to fly a single A380 on a flight.
@Z no they are not all retiring my dad is a pilot for the Emirates A380 and they have about 100 of them and they can’t let them all go they would waste like $20 billion so they have to keep most of them and also it is a failure because it runs on a lot of fuel and now in 2020 people aren’t flying the plane has no purpose it takes lots of fuel and lots of passengers and that’s not what we need in 2020 we need small planes like the A320neo now or 737 max

Wookie, First I wish to say MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and you family and I hope you all have fantastic time in your holidays...I just wanted to say and if I'm wrong forgive me please..your Dad fly Airbus so he knows what to do..I'm so sad of the A380 because i never fly on one : / but wanted to..I used to watch them fly over Tarbes in France when I was little..they come from Toulouse on flight test etc and were so HUGE...vaccine and so on will change the World again and I hope things become normal again.
