  • Tutorial 8 continues with the song we started in Tutorial 7, adding the verse with new horns, bass and percussion tracks. I then use pad mode 11 to switch groups while playing the whole song live.
You can preview the sheet music and hear the professional recording for free at the publisher's site here: www.giamusic.com/store/resour...
    Thanks for watching!

Hi Paul, very nice result of the tutorial process 👏Looks like you have a lot of fun to play around with the Fantom 0. 🤓I have made a scene lately, which has both, the patterns grouped at sample pad, but also a dedicated order of the groups arranged in a song. Makes it even easier, if I wish to play the patterns in the "usual" order.
    Cheers and rgds from Germany

Great idea! I'll have to give that a try. I don't think the FANTOM-0 can change pad colors in that mode - as it can for Scenes - but I'll read more about it and find out for sure. I agree that would help select the right button. Thanks for sharing!

Bro your videos are awesome and super helpful. I just bought an 07 and I am trying to learn it. (And piano)

Thanks! I've had my 07 for a while now and I'm still trying to learn it too. It does so much. Good luck on your journey!

Great idea! I didn’t know about group play before watching this. The mix is muddy, with too much left hand piano over the bass. Music should be a conversation, not an argument. The conflicting rhythms in the low register would be hard to sing over. Also consider bringing the drum track levels up to solidify the groove.
Thanks for making this video… I really learned something valuable!

Wow, great advice. I need to think about how to play differently when I've added other layers. And I probably need headphones to mix the sounds better. Lots to think about. Thanks!

btw, I have coloured the groups differently on the sample pad, for intro, verses, chorus, bridge, outro etc. Makes it easier to recognize in live situation. Don't know, whether Fantom 0 has the function to colour the groups.🤔

Great idea! I don't think we can change pad colors but it would definitely help.

Hi there, I’ve been using this method for the last 15 yrs. but on arranger keyboards. Can I do odd time signatures on this KBD as I do a lot of eastern rhythms? What you think about the timing when switching patterns on odd rhythms. Can you do a system transpose on a single button? Please answer..

Hi John - I think the answer is exactly what you expect: all you get is 4/4 and 3/4 on the FANTOM-0. There are more options on the big FANTOM, of course. Sometimes you can work around different meters by adding measures with a common multiple, like instead of 3/4, 3/4, 5/4, 5/4 (16 beats) you can create four measures of 4/4 (16 beats) and build your own rhythm pattern. Sometimes you can speed up the metronome and double the measures (cut time). That will help with a single 2/4 measure, as an example. Timing changes, aka tempo maps, require a computer. Hope that helps!

@@contemporarysynth Thank you Paul, for the detailed reply. I heard some limitations on this new pattern based sequencing, now it’s clear. For live playing with complicated rhythm patterns I’m going to stick with KORG arrangers…I know there is less sound quality on sample based synthesis but happy to see it’s improving on newer models….still don’t understand why Roland is away from arranger market. Thank you for sharing these videos….great work.

@@johnjon9094 Hi John, it isn't a limitation of the pattern sequencing itself, but due to limitations of the instrument. I have a "big" FANTOM 7, where the odd time signatures can be freely programmed (after update 3.0 is installed).
