Excellent video. Thanks for sharing this with us. I have a somewhat ugly yellow house that I am going to paint a light gray color with white trim. I think it will look nice when I am finished. Your tips will be very helpful. Thanks again!🤜🤛
other than rain, obviously, what other weather factors should I paint the exterior of my home? This weekend calls for high in the 60"s and 70's but low 40"s. Will that be ok to paint in?
hi! thank you so much for this video. we have a couple of questions: 1. what tape/paper dispenser are you using? 2. how many gallons of paint did it take to specifically paint the home excluding the soffit? 3. how many hours do you recommend your clients wait before using their front door (if no other door is available)?
Please like and subscribe! Thanks! - 3M dispenser - every paint store has it! - take 5 gallons and you should be ok as I used 4 here; - Paint will dry fast if it is warm outside within couple of hours; Let me know for more questions;
Thank you so very much for posting such a detailed video. The house I bought has exactly the same siding, color and all. I don't like the color and coincidentally would much prefer a green. I was just starting to research if I could even paint the vinyl siding. Your video provided me so much of the detailed information I need to tackle the project. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It means so much!
I've pressure washed 2 exteriors so far, and yes, a lot of dirt came out of the soffit, and I had to spray quite a bit. But it was definitely cleaner in the end. Am i missing something else?
On a complete color change you should have opened up those laps on the siding and shot some paint in behind the laps. When that siding expands and contracts now with seasons you're going to see yellow at the laps.
This is a good video....learned a lot. I'm trying to paint a customer's porch ceiling having vinyl porch soffit with ~1" deep grooved panels...grooves spaced 6" apart across entire ceiling. Using rollers & brushes is taking way too long. Looks a paint sprayer rig like this guy has is needed.😮
I love your videos. I was just wondering if you could answer a few questions. I saw another video about painting vinyl siding, and if you’re in a very hot area where the side of your house gets a lot of sun the vinyl siding got all warped. Have you ever run in to an issue like that?
I heard about it and it usually hapens if you use too dark color or your siding. Especially if you paint light color siding with a dark colors. I am talking about it in the video that only SW offers vinyl safe paint what I know. If your siding is dark color as it cane from the factory only in that cae you should be ok if painting it with dark tinted colors. Please like and subscribe! Thanks!
Take 5 gallon paint (big pail - cheaper), you might use 3 or 4, but you never know. You will have leftovers for touchups if you need down the road. Please like and subscribe!
Got to love it .... A neighbor did this on a $1 plus million NY home. Then it was listed to take advantage of the high priced real estate in NY. It started peeling when they had their first open house. Haha .. what a disaster. The realtor was furious that she didn't know about it and took a hit on her credibility. The house now is being resided the proper way. Homeowners beware of the pitfalls would be my advice.
This was my first thought when someone suggested painting our vinyl siding. Siding moves when you press it or anything touches the house, it has some movement. Paint is meant to not do that obviously so I can't imagine how it doesn't chip constantly.
The client dis not like how it turned out acctually, he was thinking it will be darker green, even he choose the color 😀 But I liked it. It tunes out nice for me comparing how it was I think. Please like and subscribe! Thanks!
Because that is part of the painting job as well. Client requested and that is not uncommon. You can absolutely paint the soffit if you want to and don’t worry, you won’t block the vent holes. Paint particles come out from the sprayer are like a water mist, so small and thin so they don’t fill the holes or cracks what so ever. I did it many, many times. Feel free to paint it if you want to. Please like and subscribe! Thanks!
Practically speeking you can paint it in spring, summer or fall as long as it does not go under 5 degrees celsius during the day or night paint will dry just fine. You can not avoid expanding and retracting. Make sure to walk around the house before the end of the day to see if any unpainted lines showed up where vinyl overlaps. Keep some spare paint and you can always touch it up with 6mm or 10 mm small roller. Please like and subscribe! Thanks!
Got any tips for a beginner in exterior painting? I usually do interior projects but I have a client that needs a project done and I'm trying to prepare myself
I see you used green frog tape to mask off the soffit that you recently painted...... I guarantee that the fresh paint came off as you removed the tape.... You should have used the purple tape.....
No I used green scotch masking tape. Frog tape is too expensive, no need for this project. I came day after painting the soffit to mask it off, and It did not remove any paint. Thanks
So idk man, ive been a professional painter for close to 15 years...wash the flippin soffits that doesnt make sense to not wash... Hack move... i always use a bonding primer(extreme bonding primer) just do a light "piss" coat over all the vinyl before spraying finish BECAUSE its not about warping... i havent ever dealt with that... its bubbling a year or 2 or 3 later... Adhesion problems... And if your going to be a painter, look professional...wear white... you look like the typical hack handyman painter... "Oh im using Super Paint" Its not that great of a product man
You don’t need any primer. Don’t listen to this guy. This is exterior paint and it will bond for vinyl and anything very well. Just wash it well and use exterior paint. Super paint from Sherwin Williams is good paint but you can go with any brand you want. More money-better product.
@faithprice8584 its called "Extreme Bonding primer" by Sherwin Williams. I always do a light mist coat across the whole house. That's what my paint rep told me to do, doesn't matter if you use Super Paint, Duration, or Emerald... I'm telling you this from my own personal experience. YT has brought out all these hacks on YT trying to give up what they think are trade secrets.. I'm also a licensed paint contractor that has been in business for almost 5 years. I bet this dude in the video isn't even licensed.. The bubbling is a real thing, it's not going to happen ALL OVER but it some places and this guy will get a call back. Plus think about it, what's the hurt in spending an hundred bucks on a couple of gallons of primer to ensure you won't have issues later?
Hello I was just wondering what do you charge for a house that size?

As long as it is warm and dry outside and over night you are good!

I used to double up paper on decks cause I'd find a cloud on the deck a lot of times, but that tip probably helps
Thanks for the feedback. Paper that I use from paint store is pretty good, never bleeds through. Thanks

No you are all set. Just clean it well and paint it.
Great job men! I really liked the video!!
Question: Is the same paint you used for the soffit, is the same paint you used for the gutters?
Yes any exterior paint.

Seems like the vinyl warped ? Did you use the right paint or what happened with that

Question; vinyl shrinks in the winter. Does it expose unpainted surfaces? Thanks for a great video
YES, it does and if you paint a darker color over a lighter siding it will warp. You must paint the same color or lighter over the siding.
It will not warp, use Vinyl Safe Paint from SW.
Super

What is your point, that it was not done right or what?

Spraying isbest, but those paint pull pads are pretty nice as well If you don’t have a large space and want to avoid the set up/rental of a sprayer

I thought you put up vinyl to not have to paint.
I bought my house, it has a yellow siding and its not my color so I will paint it.
@robingutierrez1285 great! For sure! Good luck!
What do you think a job like that would roughly cost
3000$ probably for the small house like this.
@TheHandyNeighbor ok thank you, definitely gives me an idea now.

You're NOT supposed to paint a darker color over the lighter color, or your siding will warp!!!!!
No it will not, look at the entire video before you crititize. Vinyl Safe Pain bud.
He talked about that in the beginning on the video, the paint manufacturers guaranteed the siding wouldn’t warp.
If its made in a vinyl safe formula it should be fine
