YES THANK YOU. I found out about Furi because Carpenter Brut did music, so I checked it out, and was utterly SHOCKED. Playing through this glorious immersive musical experience, with a banger story (in my opinion). I only found out about it a few years ago, but to see so many people making music that befitted the battles (whom you can all view in the pause menu as a song is played). To find this game after loving synthwave is nothing short of intentional. I encourage anyone who hasn't played to do so, and if you love 100%ing a game, doing so rewards you with concept art.
this game is one continuous adrenaline rush and I love it dearly. I really can't express enough how much I appreciate how absolutely laser focused Furi is on providing this very specific experience / mood / concept, even if it isn't perfect (and also even though it means I've never been able to find anything else like it). it knows exactly what it wants to be (keep up the great work! you went insaneo style on this one)
The DLC character is also a fun change of pace, if not a wholly better experience for the game. The heavy mode’s dodge is buggy with its hit boxes, but fast swapping between the two for different distances is a blast.
Beating the game on Furier is an ACCOMPLISHMENT and the game congratulates you for that. 12/10 Would drop 100 hours on it again. After I 100%d this game I dont think anyone has an excuse not to beat this game on furier personally. This is a game that takes most people 3 hours on average to beat. It took me like 15 to beat it on normal. If I can 100% it anyone can.
Shocked at how many people I know never played it. It feels like a game that everyone should know about in the indie scene even if theyve never played it.
i've been brainrotting about it since early 2022 and it basically relaunched my will to draw. and i don't think it will stop making me do art any time soon. wish i saw more folks doing the same! \o/
This game looks amazing. I'm sure if I played it a few times some metaphors in the names and stages would appear. It feels like there's a world of deeper lore waiting. The way you explained everything was just outstanding. Your excitement is so infectious it's hard not to be hyped up by it.
I was worried maybe I wasn't as exciting in my recording listening back to it when I was done as I wanted to be. Glad it resonated with you 🥰 I really love this game and am stunned that so many people I know never played it.
28:35 this is a clear inspiration from myamoto musashis duel vs sasaki kojirou (I hope I spelled it right) when he defeated him by a sword that he made from an oar
Absolutely! But I think the real standout here imo has to be toxic avenger. Danger's stuff was also incredible. The same devs of this game got him back to make the soundtrack for haven too, so give that a listen if you like the furi soundtrack.
The only thing that I think you should have spent more time on was the defining trait of each jailer. Each jailer has a certain trait like the first boss being a sadistic, and the beat being innocent. I think the game does a really good job in depicting the full range of human traits, and my canon is that rider judged humanity as worthy of living even with its flaws.
All I remember from Furi was that the boss in the arena with the constantly spawning walls was nigh impossible to catch and therefore just frustrating for me. Any attempt at attacking just led to it running away behind some neverending maze structures, and I quit then and there. There probably was a way to win, but it felt so tedious as to not be worth pursuing. That, and the segments between fights with the immensely slow walking were mostly just boring to me. The protagonist refused to run, though they very clearly were able to, and I had to spend minutes guiding them around corners. I couldn't even just put it on some auto-run makro, because I had to direct them through this immensely slow walking process. Nice idea, weak execution. Haven was a much better game and showed just how much the devs had progressed.
I only played the demo of Haven but it didn't appeal to me like Furi. I need to play full version to really say it wasn't for me tho. Also about auto-walking, there is an button for it. Forgot what it was tho. I quite enjoyed the walk between fights, gets me a lil info on the world and characters. It's a bother on repeat playthroughs and speedruns tho. Totally respect that, as a player, you wanna get into the action asap. Sorry it wasn't your thing 🤷
@@bigfreakinfrog To add to what you're saying, I remember watching a stream with the devs when the game released and they talked about the walks being intentional because the game is otherwise only bosses to let players rest between fights, it's also a good moment to add to the story but the main function is to force you to take a break because you can't be focused for such lengthy periods of time without starting to lose concentration. Also for what it's worth finishing the game unlocks speedrun mode anyway which skips those parts so you shouldn't have to redo them unless you lose your save or go specifically for story mode speedrun specifically. While it might turn off some people I think this game is very thoughtful and does it's best to give everyone the best experience possible which I appreciate.
I swear, Furi is like Deus Ex for me. Whenever it is mentioned, I reinstall it and play it again. It is SO GOOD! Great work on the video, I loved the individual breakdowns a lot.
Not a word on the soundtrack!? BROTHER!! Carpenter Brut really do be slapping my nuts hard while I beat them wardens around thier arenas, that's all I can say.
I think I just forgot to praise it for a minute. I love it. I felt like anything I'd say would be obvious, especially cuz I don't know anything about music 😭
@@bigfreakinfrog one thing I really love about the edge that you hadnt elaborated much on was the tone and specific dialogue the edge gives you when you lose a life and when you beat a phase. He actively encourages the player/rider to try harder and reach their potential, praising them for good and in a somewhat friendly way, admonishes (for lack of better term) Rider for failings. They KNOW Rider can be a worthy opponent, they want Rider to give it their all, to make a memorable battle.
@@0tterhead I should have mentioned it honestly. I didn't wanna be a broken record but you're right. His dialogue offers a lot to the player experience beyond just characterization.
@@bigfreakinfrog even still, now that I've finished the video, I'm sure you did a fantastic job man. Really great way to hook people who havent played, looking forward to your next video!
I feel like after hotline Miami dropped a lot of these “Miami” likes started dropping and they where all bangers, furi included. This game needs more love since it’s absolutely peak
Something tells me that the Jailer and the Beat should swap roles as first and last guardian. For me the Jailer has the best design and it would be awesome to fight the one who was torturing you for so long for your last fight, as a sign of revenge. And its a bit anticlimactic to fight the seemingly weakest of the guardians right after that badass samurai. Well regardless of that, WHAT AN INCREDIBLE AND AWESOME GAME, HOLY FUCK
You missed the point, The Beat being the last, and the Chain being the first, is there to subvert expectation. The Beat(and the scene at the Real world with the Rabbit if you find it), is the culmination of the Rider's character growth
Think of it this way. The samurai actually IS the last line of defense. They put the beat behind him because they wanted to protect her and was hoping you wouldn't get this far. They also gave her an ultimate weapon trump card she could activate if all else failed. (which failed too). Her being last not only helps with the story and rider character developpement. It also helps with worldbuilding and character building for the other guardians.
I like the direction but I can't help but feel like the models and animations are a bit lacking compared to the ambition of the game. I still love it but I just know if they remade this game like a decade from now it would look insane.
Your humour tingles my pringle. I dont comment a lot except for niche shit, but I hope you pop off. Your.... passion is relatable 🌚 anyways god bless from sweden. Also god bless berk 😔✌️

honestly the line on furier is the main reason why this game is categorized as bullet hell, old man has just wayy too many balls
before i start watching the video i want to say how much i enjoyed this game. it was such an experience with a BANGER soundtrack
🤘Furi rules. I like that they left a tiny bit of sequel bait with Rider still alive and The Star hinting at another invasion.
