  • Inscryption does a lot of things like I've never seen before and I'm not a fan of all of it. I can appreciate the experience as something incredible but it left me wanting for something I almost felt baited into.

I would so love to see a mode where leshi and grimora and the wizard all tag team a narrative, I just think the three are fun characters and to see them each be friends and play cards would make me happy :)

That'd be so cool but I'm certain that Kaycee's Mod was the last hoorah for the game. He's the type to make something new every time. I'm glad for it too.
I wonder if he'd consider lending a bit of time/ assets to fans to create official fan mods/games tho. More of those characters sound awesome.

If it's any consolation, they're not official by any means, but there's some pretty content heavy mods based around Grimora and Magnificus, designed to play like their own unique 4th and 5th act.@@bigfreakinfrog

i agree that act 1 was the goat but i cannot see how they could have extended the run time with Leshy without it suffering. I think act1 is great because it was taken away at the right time

For what they wanted to accomplish I absolutely think they took it away at the right time. The game was getting way too easy and they were running out of mysteries in the cabin.
I just wanted the game that never existed, yknow? The version of act 1 that had more bosses, more mechanics, more secrets, and wasn't complicated by being a meta-narrative arg. Kaycee's Mod was a good sample of what that could have looked like and I'm grateful for it.
They really didn't have to make it, they already had a good game. I got a lot out of Kaycee's mod

The narration on this video was great, absolutely recaptured the kind of enthusiasm I experienced on my first time through the game. I can't wait to see what the next game from Mullins will be like.

It's hard to explain, but it's a real fuckin treat to have a conversation with a bro about a game, realize you have the same opinion on it, then watch him turn that opinion into a stupidly well edited and paced video essay. It's like... being a chef as your job, and having somebody make you dinner for once.
Watching this made me want to up my own video's quality, honestly, which is the highest compliment I can give, I think.

While the inclusion of acts 2 and 3 arguably makes for a worse "game," those acts are what cement Inscryption as a piece of art, an experience, a first play through that I will remember for the rest of my life. If the whole game was like act 1 I honestly don't think I would even have finished it. Don't get me wrong, act 1 is the best part of the game, but... I have plenty of great games in my library but non of them made me feel the way this one did. It blew my mind when I got to act 2, I thought "holy shit, there's a whole other game in this game!" Same with act 3 and the ending. It's one of the very, very, few games that made me cry, an incredible feat for the "What if Jigsaw played Magic the Gathering" game. It's insane to me that there are people out there who say Inscryption shouldn't have bothered with acts 2 and 3. Act 1 was great but I think it ended when it needed to. It couldn't go on forever, there's only so much escape room I can take before it starts to drag on.
This is one of those times when the creator making what they want and not what we want gave us something truly unique, rather than yet another great deck building rougelike. I'm glad things turned out this way.

      @bigfreakinfrog  Рік тому +1

Oh yeah, Inscryption is valuable as a work of art for sure. I just really like roguelikes lol. Kaycee's Mod was a great taste of what this game would have been if it were closer to the game that I love that never existed.
I was also blown away by how much stuff was in the game and it wouldn't have touched my heart the way it did without its decision to go further and evolve the game as a unique experience. It worked on me in the sense that I still think about it and will continue to think about it too.
That act 1 experience tho, even when I was just in Kaycee's Mod 100%ing the game, it was close to my favorite game. Sorry if it comes across as dismissive, not my intention. 😅

Holy hell this is such a good video, maybe even the best inscryption summary of all time, simple things like acting surprised when the kamwerks logo first pops up and stuff like 23:08 which adds more mystery is really good and had me hooked , something about this video also gave me vibes that you liked act 1 the best i cant quite put my finger on it tho, good vid, gave me pelt lice, wish all your stuff got as much views as your borderlands vid.

Not gonna lie, I heard about this game a ton and heard people say "don't get spoiled on it", but it never really interested me so I remained unspoiled while also not ever trying the game. I've been spoiled now, but honestly I'm quite interested. This game looks pretty cool. I might pick it up now.

The weird bait-and-switch this game did to people is so strange. People like me and a few of my friends were pissed that it did that. I was also amazed but some still hated the rest of it.
On the other end are people who don't get enough from the initial trailers. They finally added the more meta aspects to the trailers to give people a better idea and to not make people feel like they wasted $20 when the clock passes 2 hours and they can't return it around the time the game changes into something different.

Its crazy how even after 20 hours of playtime theres still stuff i had no idea about. The ouroburo for instance. I just always chose the geck, because we were chill like that. Also, i really wish act 2 dropped the pixel artsytle and continued the horror vibes of act 1. That spooky, oppressed atmosphere of being locked in leshy's basement (my fanatsy) was one of its best features and it was a blow when it disappeared in favor of a pretty cliched creepypasta. It kinda comes back in act 3 with p03 but cmon, im not gonna be afraid of a stoat, its a stoat.

    Amazing video, man.
I saw this in my sub box, and remembered about inscryption and finally played it for the first time completely blind and I LOVED IT.
You were talking about people for whom it's their favorite game and that's me, I am the bitches. I compare it to undertale or even portal 2 and Stanley parable in a sense that the game seems to always be aware of what player must be currently feeling and playing with it. I really enjoy the atmosphere of Act 1, but I might be enjoying the little subversions even more, like how the game intentionally let's you break it in stupidly easy ways or Luke interjecting with his CRINGE and GAMER comments that we're all also feeling while playing.
"ugh, this boss again" "Aw yeah, always pick mantis god" *mwah*
I dunno how to properly articulate it and it may be a little meta, but for games and movies both a lot of my enjoyment comes not from just the game/movie being entertaining, but from me having some knowledge about how it's made and what effort and planning and talent was required to pull it off, I love being able to deconstruct things just a little as I go through so I can admire a master at work.
From that perspective, which you definitely also share at least in part, inscryption is propelled into valhalla for me. I can't believe that it actually exists, it's just so mind blowing to me that mortal men were able to pull it off, between the atmosphere and the stupid amount of cards across 4 different styles and 3 different acts, it's all so TIGHT, just URGH.
Side note, but I definitely enjoyed act 1 maybe just a little less than you, while enjoying act 3 a little more so I think it was a more even experience throughout that elevated the whole thing more. And I think the reason I enjoy P03 so much as a character, is that I didn't find him to be cynical or ironic, as much as I see him as a mix between whetley from Portal 2 and the queen from Deltarune CH2 (not because both are robots, tho lmao). He was just trying his hardest to make the best card gaming experience in the way that he sees it and there's something very genuine about that and makes me forgiving of shortcomings that the game itself may have in act 3, same way I am more forgiving of a DM in a tabletop session compared to a commercial product.
If you're still reading this, cheers! I only seen the borderlands video and this one, but now I'll have to go watch some more, good stuff.

Yo! I'm glad you liked the video and also had such a good first time experience with this game. I wanted to make sure its clear that I love this game, but I just loved specific parts way more and the unique places it goes dragged it down for me just a bit. I'm really happy that my video kicked you just a little to try it for the first time because it's a phenomenal card game even for people who don't like them. It's just a phenomenal game as well. ♥
Now that I know what Mullins is about I'm excited to see what else he's workin' on in the future!
Side note: I was never feelin' what Luke was feelin' when he was playing and it added to the little bit of annoyance I felt for the character lol
