I have gone from King - Deity in the space of 3 games thanks to your advice and I'm getting so much more enjoyment out of the game as a consequence. Like you, I love thinking on my feet and strategising based on what happens early game. For example I'm playing Cyrus, started out with plans to go conquest / culture with a focus on trade, however I found 2 natural wonders with Religion adjacency so have now pivoted slightly and grabbed the penultimate religion, really excited to see where it goes. Have managed to steal 3 settlers and 3 builders with the surprise war mechanic, somehow i'm still friends with all my local civs and I'm only on turn 75. I wanted to share an interesting game I had with Canada recently: I got a religion and used the tundra adjacency, holy site adjacency generating production and then hermetic order to create super high adjacency holy sites which essentially double up as early game production zones, I was getting 15+ adjacency bonuses for religion and production early game. Unfortunately I didn't have as much tundra as I would have liked to settle, but imagine this strategy could be used for an insanely quick tourism victory. I would like to see what you could do with something similar

This challenge is back on Deity instead of Emperor. If you sacrifice builders to the GDRs, they sit there harmlessly for almost half the game. Deploying fighters (eventually jets) helps keep the barb camps under control while still being useful for fighting them. And, if the GDRs come, they're not that bad at fighting them.

i made settler after setler and let the robot grab one because he just sat there with it not attacking. After i settled my 4th city with encampments I started making units. I had top score by about turn 60. The easiest one so far - considering i failed on the one before to win at emporer I was happy
