The guitar player, Larry Lalonde has been with them all the way through. They used a different drummer for a while, but are back with Tim the last several years. Ler Lalonde is a criminally underrated guitar player. Fun fact, his guitar teacher was Joe Satriani.
He's only underrated because of Les's ridiculous bass playing. I'm so glad Larry is with them, but he would have done amazing whatever band he played in.
Also fun fact that Jay Lane (this drummer on the video) was their drummer before Tim and has payed with both Primus and Les' other side projects quite a lot. He also played with Grateful Dead side projects as well. Tim and Jay are outstanding drummers!! Ler Lalonde is no slouch either I agree; highly underated...
Jay Lane as seen here in the video was in Primus before Tim Alexander, as well as Todd Huth was the the guitarist before Larry Lalonde. Les, Todd and Jay recorded a demo together in 1988 in Primus and then later rereleased and expanded upon it under the Band name "Sausage", which was the demos title from '88 with the same members. It was after Todd and Jay left that we got Larry and Tim. Tim of course left for a while giving us Brain and the return of Jay as seen in this video and of course, Tim came back to Primus.
Larry has pretty much been there all the way through, at least in terms of their significant releases. They've gone through quite a few drummers over the years. The drummer from this video, Jay Lane, was with them for a while in the late 80's and rejoined again for a couple of years. The most well known drummer is Tim Alexander, and maybe also Brain Mantia.
Love me some Les Claypool. Have you heard of the band Oysterhead? It's members were Les Claypool of Primus, Stewart Copeland from The Police and Trey Anastasio the Lead guitarist of Phish. Unique music you should check them out.
I started plying bass because of Les Claypool. My mother introduced me to the sailing seas of cheese album. I bought a frettless because i was a fan, and i later routed a hole in another bass to allow for a tremolo bridge also Because of Les. I later met Les when I was like 18 when i was working at a golf course. He was leaving because of rain, but I recognized him. He waited in the rain for me to grab my instrument so he could autograph it, and he jammed on it a bit.
Saw Primus a year or so ago. The performed their music and then the entire A Farewell of Kings album from Rush as a tribute to Neil Peart (drummer) and Les's #1 influence, Geddy Lee. Tim, the Primus drummer, did phenomenally well.
Larry lalonde has played guitar on all of the primus albums, jay lane on drums is the first drummer but was replaced by Tim Alexander for the first four albums, jay rejoined for an album/ tour around 2010-12
All I can do is help lead you to water, Miss this, miss out. Here is Les playing with Sean Lennon, 'The Claypool Lennon Delirium - Southbound Pachyderm | Live at House of Blues' Peace/JT

I saw Primus open up for RUSH on two different tours in the 90’s and at lollapalooza in 1993. THE GREATEST WEIRDEST TRIO ON THE PLANET THAT IS PART RUSH PART FRANK ZAPPA PART FUNKADELIC!
If you missed the tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins last weekend you got to check out the performance of My Hero. Taylor`s son Shane played the drums like a serial killer he was trying to murder every drum head and symbol in his reach.
Love your authenticity man. Keep up the good work. I really want to see your reaction to BFG division and The only thing they fear is you. It's music for the game Doom and judging by your channel name I think you'll love it.
I term them as a Superband. It sound dramatic but really its the best term. Claypool on bass, larry lalonde on guitar and tim alexander on drums. Really if you can think of a better more in sync superband.....I cant think of one....."The Beatles" , "Nirvana" " The Doors" like why isnt "Primus" in that discussion too
@@RockAli22 No "Superbands" are music that go above and beyond with such talented people that you are spellbound by their music and want to see a crossover between the artists. No one sounds like Les. No one sounds like Larry. And no one sounds like Joe Satriani. But if Les, Joe, and Tim were all on the same song and the same wavelength. I’ve watched a couple of your videos, I literally know rap music like the back of my hand. I’d like to see you react to all 3 hot 97 Lloyd banks freestyles with funk flex. The drummer is Jay Lane since this is from 2011. The original drummer Tim Alexander is back in the band as of 2013.
Jay Lane is first primus drummer and he quit in 1988, than Tim Alexandar -1988 and was until 1996 i think..:)😊
haha, actually it was a combo between his two hands because he was also doing a ton of hammer ons and pull offs with his left
Primus is a staple for any seasoned listener of prog rock and metal. Les Claypool is one of the best bass players alive.
(You can ask Rolling Stone for the details on his funk-thrash style if you don’t believe me. He is ranked #3 in the world)
