Les is a living, breathing cartoon character and one of the baddest bassists on the planet. Primus is a trip. Keep going!!
That's about right, isn't it... he's like Dali, just so out of pocket with a paint brush, or a bass, in his hands...good comment.
lol I would call him a muppet instead of a cartoon, but your point is very accurate.
Hell yeah !!!!
Primus sucks
True fans of Primus chant "Primus Sucks!" as a term of respect and endearment. ❤🤘🤘
Indeed, as well as LARRY YOU'RE A BASTARD!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Say Baby - we got him! he is one of us now lol
YES! That's the official way to tell too! lol
Yes sir
Awesome reaction! Primus is incredible . Don’t sleep on Herb’s unbelievable drumming 👍🏻👍🏻
Southpark is so many people's introduction to Primus, whether they realize it or not. As for their songs, Southbound Pachyderm is my favourite.
@@JenSell1626 That's the preparing for battle anthem, and "those damn blue collar tweekers" is the marching anthem!
Primus are their own genre of music......
SAY IT BABY !!!!!!!
Primus got me through three semesters of calculus in college. They were a great homework helper.
Primus: the weirdest band you didn't know you needed.
After Metallica's bassist died and they were trying to find a replacement Les Claypool auditioned, but they turned him down. They told him he was too good for the job. lol They also had to know he didn't really fit in w/their style of music, but I always find that funny. I am glad you enjoyed this one. I normally start people off w/Jerry Was a Racecar Driver to kind of ease people into their sound. Some people get thrown off by the eccentricity and can't really pay attention to the music.
James Hetfield said that, but it was framed a little different. James believed Metallica would limit Les' growth as a bassist and stunt his real potential. They are all still very good friends.
@@johndeeregreen4592 For sure, and Met asked him to try out again when Newstead left, but same result. I think it was more of a nod to him to invite him specifically rather than really thinking they would offered him the job. Les said he was disappointed that he didn't get it after Cliff, but it didn't last and there wasn't any animosity there. I will be seeing Primus again here near the end of April for Maynard James Keenan's bday bash, and am really looking forward to it.
Les gets the same ride Brian Carroll aka Buckethead does. Metallica got where they did by maintaining a certain palatable image. Les Claypool and Buckethead pretty much don't even figure that nonsense into the equation.
I absolutely love it when I see a reaction to Primus that is identical to the reaction that I had. Completely hooked after one song.
The first time I heard Primus I actually couldn't stand it and I was bitter about it too. Later on as I learned how to play guitar I saw some of their music videos and I was hooked. You kind of have to be a musician to really understand just how incredible they are. These three are the perfect match and there's nobody on Earth like them!
Live version of this song is a lot of fun as well. Pretty deep rabbit hole here.
Upvote...........even now, so many years later, Tommy the Cat is still a fan favorite, people go APESHIT. I know some guys in a local band (Chicago) who did a great version of this song, and it always got the crowd going like nothing else........
Primus is the only band with its own genre tag on iTunes/Winamp.
What is that tag..."Primal"???🤔😆
@@surfersilver6610 Primus :stuffemoji:
In an interview, Ler said, their style was Psychedelic Polka. Fine with me. 🧸💕
Great reaction !
Wynonas Big Brown Beaver or
My Name is Mud
PRIMUS SUCKS !
The message is we are 3 guys who can jam. Primus has a cult following, especially live.
Pronounced "PRIME-us." They're definitely their own thing. VERY much looking forward to this rabbit hole dive! "Jerry Was A Race Car Drive", "Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers", and "My Name Is Mud" should be on your list. EDIT: After hearing that bass, are you SURE you don't want to put Les in legend status?
Winona's Big Brown Beaver official video is a must see!
Tommy the cat (the gruff voice) is Tom Waits. He's got multiple grammys, is in the rock & roll hall of fame, nominated for an Oscar, has been in dozens of movies, has been covered by The Eagles, The Ramones, Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash and hundreds of others, and STILL most people don't know who he is. Try: Tom Waits - Make It Rain (Letterman 09.09.04)
Primus is an amazing mix of perfection and confusion that causes dissonance in a way beyond description. Oh my oh my Primus.
Seen them twice live...Les is not just a phenomenal bass player but is a tremendous musician who can play a variety of instruments with just as much precision
Primus is THE band to see if a person actually has an open mind or not.
And, brother, you definitely have an open mind. Good for you. You found the groove. You found the funk. Nice reaction.
I can't wait until you react to "wynona's Big Brown Beaver". Yup, I said it.
You should watch the following Primus videos in this order: Winona’s Big Brown Beaver, My Name Is Mud, Jerry Was A Race Car Driver, and Mr. Krinkle. All their songs/videos are good but that’s a nice crash course that will prepare you for the rest of their music as well as being highly entertaining.
Watching your face while you went through all those emotions was amazing! 😂 Jerry Was a Racecar Driver is my vote for next from them.
next song(s) should be:
Jerry Was A Racecar Driver
Too Many Puppies
John the Fisherman
My Name is Mud
Those Damn Blue-Collar Tweekers
or Shake Hands With Beef
All great choices. Also, if we're going for trippy videos that match the song "Mr. Krinkle" is a good one.
@@richardrobbins387 i was gonna put Krinkle, but didnt wanna be too weird for his second song lol
Puddin' Taine for a curveball
People forget or may not know, the base is a six string fretless. Hard to play but executed flawlessly. Les is freaking amazing! They are great in concert.
Until the early 90's it was usually believed milk was better for cats than water, then veterinarians explained massively to owners cats are lactose intolerant.
The bass slide technique is named "glissando", it works better with a fretless bass (the bass Les Claypool is using even if there are still fret marks) or a double bass. You can also do slides on a guitar by using a bottleneck, or even a rounded plastic lighter. And the tap technique is simply called tapping, something very characteristic of Eddie Van Halen.
This is my favorite band of all time. I highly recommend "southbound pachyderm" by Primus
Good one. How about Hamburger Train too? Deep cut
The first time someone hears Tommy The Cat's bass solo, and you can't help but smile. It's just ... legendary.
Bassist/Vocalist: Les Claypool
I think Les on the bass is like Jimmie Hendrix on the guitar!
Also the milk thing is just cause the song is about a cat, I think lol!
I love nothing more than see a new fan of my favorite band be born!
Got to see them live in 93 and 94. They actually had the biggest mosh pits I ever saw. Often they would not actually take the stage until the audience chanted "PRIMUS SUCKS! PRIMUS SUCKS!" Do "Pudding Time" or "Mr Knowitall" or "Groundhogs Day"!
Yes yes! Primus are legends in my mind
My Name is Mud is a favorite song by them for me.
Primus is one of the most unique bands ever. Every song can sound like a different genre or a blend of genres. Rock, pop, country, folk, metal, funk, rap, etc. You may have heard them before as they are the creators of the South Park theme.
Nearly all the songs are stories about an individual character and have a persons name in the title too.
They are also mentioned the opening lyric to Eminems Slim Shady censored version "Hey kids do you like Primus"
It absolutely will get stuck in your head.
You just opened the rabbit hole go down it you won't be sorry!!!! 3 amazing artists you will fall in love with!!!😊❤
Cats like milk....right?
I wish more people reacted to primus.
Welcome to Primus...and yes they do suck. Their catalog is tremendous and then you have all of Claypool's side projects. Seen Primus about 10 times but was blown away by Cornel Claypool's Fearless Frog Brigade's (featuring Sean Lennon) rendition of Pink Floyd's Animals album a couple months ago.
If you react to Those Damn Blue Collar Tweekers performance from Woodstock 1994, I highly recommend searching for the FULL set and then skip to the song because, for some reason, most of the videos of just that song edit out the greatest part....when Les pays tribute to Jimi Hendrix's 1969 Woodstock performance.
No no, they're legends. Les is one of the greatest bass players ever! Their stuff can be pretty wacky, but that's what make them Primus. Now you should see them play live so you can see how the audience loses their sh*t at their shows! Les has them eating out of the palm of his hand, it's really quite extraordinary to watch. Primus sucks!
Great reaction, love that you take the time to review the artist a little bit to get context and then dive into the song itself. Nice work, really enjoyed this!
to put this in perspective, every time you hear the South Park theme song, you hear Primus, since they do the theme song to South Park
I first heard Primus when they did the theme song for South Park...my reaction was I gotta hear more from these guys. Believe it or not, Les Claypool is kinda taking it easy on this one. As far as what category to put them in... that would be Primus! Nobody else like them.
This was birthed in the Bay Area late 80s as was Metallica a decade before. Neat factoid for jazz guitar buffs: Primus’ first drummer, Jay Lane, soon played on Charlie Hunter’s first album!
I got to see a lot of Primus in SF and Oakland. Metallica’s lead guitar, Kirk Hammett, jumped out for a solo at one point! Thx for reacting!
Good man, MUCH love for this! Your well deserved enthusiasm on this is so contagious, reminds me of my first time hearing Primus back in the 90s, me and everybody else (musician's bubble) was totally off their tits, disbelief and instant fandom. Keep up these vibes, thank you! 🧸💕
Take a ride into Primus' "Hamburger Train" to see some real uncharted territories.
If you love the groove so much, you don't care about the lyrics > then you GET Primus
Les Claypool is definitely legendary in the guitar community he is considered one of the only ones to have completely mastered the instrument
I remember singing along by the end the first time I heard this song...
The live versions are typically better and if you like south park they've done the various intros to the show as well some good ones by them are
Dmv
Too many puppies
John the fisherman
Mr krinkle
My name is mud
Jerry was a racecar driver
Damned blue collar tweakers
Wynonnas big brown beaver
Lacquerhead
Ol diamondback sturgeon
Shake hands with beef
To see them live is incredible.
Being caught in a Primus moshpit was very dangerous to one's physical health back in the early -mid 90's . You had to have nut s to go up front !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should see this live.
Definitely do Jerry Was a Race Car Driver!!
Primus is a band that lives in the twilight zone. Amazing but unique band with a sound that can’t be copied.
Enjoy the journey.
Try “Frizzle Fry”
Glad ur reacting to primus😊
when you ask what style of music is primus the only answer is " yes" prumus is that you can't out it in a box and it's composed strangely clearly not habitual with enphasis on bass and drum but all the musicians are exelent in their field it's just primus is that just take "the word "strange" put it in music and add very good musicians mix it in the shaker and the result in named "primus" there is others " strange" bands like jethro thull but primus is the number one on "strange"!
also to note, the guitarist studied with Joe Satriani
Go down this rabbit hole. They have great ones like Wynona's Big Brown Beaver, Shake Hands With Beef, My Name Is Mud, Jerry Was a Race Car Driver, John The Fisherman. Primus (Pry mus) is great.
Maybe John The Fisherman next!
Les is definitely the baddest and best bassist that has ever lived.
Labi Siffre - I Got The
classy ah funk with a special surprise halfway through! ;)
Haha... welcome
Never heard this before this would be great live in a little bar! 💕
my list of primus songs I know and like: shake hands with beef. my name is mud. Mr. Krinkle. Lacquer head. John the fisherman. Those damn blue collar tweekers (live is good.)
GOTTA LISTEN TO PRIMUS FRIZZLE FRY BRO ITS SO FIRE 😭
More Primus! Pronounced with a long I sound. Like Pry.
I just enjoyed watching you watch a fav of mine
Haha nice reaction you should check out more Primus! Wynonas big brown beaver should be your next listen but their deep cuts are the best.
Milk for Tommy
Primus is a mix between Rage and Ween is a good description
Les Claypool is a legend bordering on godhood.
btw cats like Milk hence the Milk
Primus are legends BUT even bigger influencers
Les is absolutely a legend. He has a few other bands you’ll want to check out. One with John Lennon’s son. 🤟
Legends.
I watched your reaction again and the excitement over Primus is absolutely wonderful to watch!!! Primus sucks!!!! You'll learn it's a word's of endearment from fans...🔥❤ 😊
Tim herb Alexander is also looked at similarly in the drumming Community if you listen to his technical ability it is insane you have to have crazy timing to keep up with les claypool's funky weird crazy Beats
Less is top 3 bassist, maybe the best. “Bucket Head” is the only other musician that’s weirder who is also top 3 guitarist and it’s funny that they both played together. Listen what Metallica said about him “he was too goo for their band”
The craziest mosh pit I ever was in was Primus “blue collar twicker”
“Winona’s got a big Brown Beaver” “Jerry was a race car driver” “ My name is mud” are a few of the more popular songs, but they have a lot good music and some mellow music which is cool
I think there was milk in the video because it was talking about Tommy, the cat, and people give milk to cats, which I don’t know why because it’s not good for them
Btw, primus sucks!
you should check out Wynonna's Big Brown Beaver!! their creativity is off the chart.
Those Damn Blue Collar Tweekers
John The Fisherman
Toys Go Winding Down
Over The Falls
DMV
American Life
My Name Is Mud
Harold Of The Rocks
Shake Hands With Beef
With Primus the list doesn't stop and there are no skips on the first 5 albums.
Every reaction vid for this song has the guy IMMEDIATELY bobbing their head to that fatass bassline
primus like the sound prime- odd but super talented musically group
Check out Those Damn Blue Collar Tweekers live.
More Primus!
Primus sux! Gotta do more! My name is mud, Shakes hands with beef, Wynonna big brown beaver, Mr. Krinkel and many more.
This video made me so happy xD
Wynona’s bbb
Southbound pachyderm
Hahaa awesome! Primus sux but u dont!! 😂❤
The milk is just because its about cats, like what would Tommy the Cat order from that handsome bartender lol?
Les is quite possibly the best bass player of all time. (tied with Victor Wooten)
You have to react to Wynona’s big brown beaver or lacquer head
Check out blue Felix with the song middle finger
YES!!! I've seen them 21 times for a reason! Primus sucks! ❤ They are their own genre. Your look that starts at 7:10 says it all lol And yes, those are lyrics, in this version being sang by the great Tom Waits. Les does the verse near the end.
Man, are you in for a treat.
Pirmus is monstrously awesome, amirite?
Primus is primus
Roy Buchanan is pronounced: "Byoo - Can - en".
Pour some milk out for the number one cat in all of us.
