It's not just a problem with Ruger plastic magazines. I've had it happen with several brands of plastic magazines for AR-15's . Get the Dremel tool or a sharp knife out and trim away and your problem is solved!
It definitely appears that is true. If he bought this new in box Ruger advertises it as a rotary magazine but I do not see the hex screw for disassembly and rewinding.
Definitely not the problem we are having with our 6.5 creedmoor. The rounds aren't being pushed up and get stuck in the mag too low for the bolt to catch the next one. Almost as if the spring isn't strong enough. Anyone have a fix for a weak spring?
@@elkhuntr2816 are you able to disassemble the mag, and make sure there's no piece of plastic or something catching it? Also, check the follower, make sure the edges are smooth, if you find a rough with edge sand it with some very fine sandpaper, maybe a bit of dry lube light graphite. There may be something you could put in the bottom of the mag under the spring to push it up a bit to give you more tension, but you might lose a round of capacity. If none of that helps, the spring is crap already, and pretty much the mag for that matter, you could try stretching the spring out and just see if that improves it. Otherwise I would try a different brand of mag. If that doesn't work, it's time to go back to Ruger.
It's still jamming after rounding that edge? I'm having this same feed problem. I'm definitely going to give it a go to see if it reduces the probability of a jam. Not sure where else to go if that doesn't work. I'll probably just buy a new mag and see if that helps. If not, I'm going to buy a new rifle. Probably Tikka
Rounding the edge basically made the problem go away. And overtime it should keep wearing in. I ended up switching to the AICS system though, so I really haven't used the rotary mag.
I have a question how did you switch over for rotary mags to aics? Was it in a direct bolt on process? Did you just get a new stock to accept the aics mags?
@@gomezx6056 no, there are certain serial numbers of the original Ruger American stock/ gun that can accept the AiCS conversion. Just call Ruger with your serial number, they will tell you if your gun will accept the AICS conversion kit. It's only about 30 or 40 bucks. They will ship it to you, it comes with good instructions. Pretty easy to do 👍 they can also ship the Ruger AICS mags as well, I ordered one when I got my conversion kit
One thing that always annoys me about watching people operate bolt action rifles is they always try to manipulate the bolt with the thumb and another finger. When bolt action rifles were perfected in world war 1 they were designed to operate with the palm of your hand pushing upward and then backwards and slamming it back down with your palm not your finger that eliminates most of the feed problems because your fingers are are the weak point your palm is much stronger and gives you a much better leverage
its funny ironic that Ruger doesn't just fix that themselves, wierd, I wonder if they make any more money from not doing it in the first place? oh well, good luck, thanks for the demo.
Thanks, I have two brand-new Ruger bolt action rifles and may get the same problem you had.
Be sure to check out my video on AICS mag modification, The link should be at the end of this video
You can run the 450 Bushmaster mags and it will fix all the feeding issues also. But you lose a round of capacity.

Okay! I hadn't thought of that. That's definitely worth a try
Works! 🎉
just bought in same cal. have same problem. come on Ruger! dissapointed. barrel good though.
you do not have a rotary magazine. you have a double stack detachable magazine.

The problem is in the magazine?

How did this fix work out for you??
Same, still same problem
Oh sorry, I ended up switching to the AICS mag conversion. About 25 bucks from ruger. I made a video on it
But beveling the rotary mag worked great
