I replaced my American predator stock with the KRG Bravo stock. Ran into the same issue with polymer MDT mags. The metal American Rifle Company mag works well, not perfect, but way better. As for the MDT polymer mag I ran electrical tape around the top of the mag. It seats much better and is useable.
Hey I just did my conversion. I saw what your issue is. I uploaded a video covering it, but essentially, the magazine stops are in the magwell, and not the bolt, and are very flimsey little tabs that are easy to bend. I'd recommend if you get a new one, possibley send it out to a machine shop to make metal tabs you can encase, or have them machine a new magwell with those specs. Smacking magazines is not safe with this cheapy magwell Ruger sent out. You'd think they would have embedded metal inside the plastic to act as the stop. Hope things been working out, I linked your vid on mine.
Yup those little tabs are already broke on my mag well. Brand new rifle shot 20 rounds though it. Ruger is sending a new one. Will not matter for long as I'm upgrading to a OryX chassis. Just note not to slam the mag..
I know I’m a bit late on this…BUT…I had the same issue when I changed from the Magpul Hunter American stock to the KRG chassis. Took me a minute, but the aluminum bedding frame on the magpul stock has three tabs (one front center, and two rear corners) that physically set the gap to the action. The PMAG cannot over-travel. On my KRG, these do not exist - and to be fair, KRG says its designed to work with metal AICS mags. I’ve ordered a metal mag to confirm this solves it, but I’m considering modifying the PMAG with some stop tabs to prevent it from being able to be inserted to far; just paying with it, I may need to shorten the mag catch a hair as well.
Never too late, people do read the comments, and comments like yours are very helpful. I'm definitely going to check out the Magpul stock now that you mentioned it. It would be nice to know if modifying the magazine solves your problem with your other stock. Hey, thanks for watching and for commenting 👍
This is not really a problem if one inserts the mags with the bolt closed or even hold the mag while shooting with bolt closed. It only looks like a problem if someone were shooting prone laying the mag on the ground as they racked in another round. This would not be a problem with the way I shoot. I don't know what you do in order to even have a problem with this. You could always get a custom Boyds stock with a metal mag kit. It was nice of you to share your problem. Others may agree it's a problem for them too.
I just encountered the same problem after doing the AIC conversion on a Predator American. I took the MagPul mag back and am now using a Ruger magazine. Seems to be okay. I could not even get the MagPul mag to seat in the mag well with the bolt closed and when I seated it with the bolt open, I could not close the bolt. Seems like there is variability with this conversion because other people have not run into this problem.
@@charlesnash2748 That's really good information, thanks for sharing that. It seems that I've had better luck with the Ruger magazines also, I'm going to leave the magpuls at home. Your comment just confirmed it
Hopefully they can! If not, this may help. I've heard of several people having the same issue, I think it's pretty common. It's a great rifle otherwise 👍
Similar issue with a RAPR 308. A forceful smack or a slight rocking is required when the bolt is closed on an empty magazine. Bolt rub is also present. Mostly when locking the bolt down. I have not tested the feeding with live ammunition at the range yet. Wondering if there is a tolerance issue in manufacturing or if the world of polymers is simply problematic. This is my only firearm with plastic frame magazines. All others are metal or contain a robust metal insert.
It seems like you're better off leaving the rifle with the flush it magazines and cleaing tye fladhing and angled sand tge rront if tye magazine for the better price and less headache.
That's what I thought originally, but this gun is a standard Ruger American. The AICS conversion only works with certain serial numbers of standard Ruger American, so when you call Ruger they will ask for your serial number, and that's why. Excellent question, thanks for commenting and for watching 👍
Edit :Wait is your gun the American Predetor ? And if no, do you know if that model has the same issues as yours ? Thanks for advising... was thinking about this for a SHTF option, but seems to be a failure for said application.
wow! I would be too! Can you see where the bullets are hanging up? Definitely call them and they should fix it. I've had to send a few guns back to the factory over my lifetime, Kahr, S&W, KelTec, Dan Wesson, etc but they all fixed the problems, Ruger should too
Bro pissed as well bought the ACIS conversion for my Ruger Predator 6.5 along with a 10 round Ruger Magazine. It sits loosely and is plastic flimsy. Rounds wont seat properly and get hung up, over and over. The spring itself seems to be too weak. Gonna call them after i try pulling the spring out and stretching it if possible. Thing is i heard so much crap about the original magazine having issues i didn't spend this money to deal with this. Ill keep you posted about what i find out myself and what Ruger has to say. This is their problem WE shouldn't have to deal with this 😤
Contacted them little while ago. Turns out my RAP Lefty is not designed to accept the ACIS coversion and they will not return my money EVEN though they were well aware by my serial # that it was a lefty. Even more pissed now, waiting for a call back but no accountability at RUGER
It is a plain American... Not the predator version. So yes you can convert SOME regular Americans to AICS BUT it depends on the serial number. So just call Ruger, tell them you want the mod kit for AICS conversion for your Ruger American 308, and they will ask you for the serial number, and then will tell you if yours is compatible or not. IIRC its only like 30 bucks.
@@anesthesiadreamin I wonder if it's just rugers kit? Hawkins precision conversion looks a little different cost more but might be something to look at
Yes, agree with you 100%, but as other commenters mentioned, if you remember two things: 1)don't slap the magazine to seat it with the bolt open, and don't rest the guns weight on the magazine when you cycle the action, it works just fine. So yes, for the great price, and accuracy, I'm keeping mine. 👍
I have a 30-06 rotary Ruger american gen2 and have that problem. It is brand new.

Great information! Thank you so much. I'm going to try that mag 👍
I'm having an issue where my mag is stuck and when I hit the mag release lever it won't release the mag. Any advice?
Thanks for that tip Scoot
Yikes. That's a major problem....I'm going to look further before I go this way

Thanks for making this video. I just installed a Sharps Heatseeker chassis for my American and it’s having the same issue.
I was planning to get the heatseeker too. Did you contact sharps bros to see if they know anything about it?

This is just a plain ruger American 308. It is not the predator. I'm not sure if the predator has those issues. Sorry, I know that doesn't help

OK, OK! I know! Flatter shooting, more range, more accurate, all the good things 🙂 Many time I wish I had bought the CM version.
