- Ruger Predator Bolt Action Rifle video tutorial on how to convert your magazine system from the stock version to AICS style magazines. The rifle used in this video is a .308 with a Vortex Diamondback optic.
Wish every YT video was like this. No annoying intros, no merch, just straight to the point and "have a good day".
UA-camrs love putting in their dumb intros. I wish these fuckers would stop wasting my time.
Lmao there was a ruger 10-22 magazine cleaning and reassembly video that had great info in it, but with opera-like music on the background 😐
Spoke to Ruger and ordered mine today, thanks to your video. The rep on the phone said 35 inch-pound of torque. I have an American Predator in .308, was asked my serial number, told it is compatible, and for $25.95 shipped have one on the way.
On a semi-unrelated note. Those of you that have a Ruger American Predator in the 22-250, and want an extra magazine or two, DO NOT BUY the magazine Ruger recommends on their web sight (part number 90573). You will have a lot of trouble with it. Instead, get the Ruger American .308 multi-caliber magazine (part number 90689). You'll be glad you did.
Very well done. I watched your video twice and, after seeing the final assembly, it took me no time to complete the installation. Many thanks.
Thanks a lot for this video. I just converted my Ruger Predator 308 Win yesterday. It was so easy. And yes - Ruger does not send any instructions how to install this kit.
Do you like it with the ai mags a lot better? I don’t mind the rotary mag, mainly because it’s flush fit to the receiver, but have an ai conversion on hand just haven’t committed!
Thank you for this. This is exactly what I need to do with my new 308. Well done.
Good video, my rifle came with the AI mag well and spring release lever, but to adjust the trigger the catch and spring had to be removed. Without the fixture you received with your mag well, it it was challenging to re-install it. The re-install kit should be included with a new rifle.
60-80 inch pounds is the torque spec for the action screws.
Followed your video and installed it. Worked perfectly all hunting season. But now when I need to do an end of season cleaning I gotta do all this stuff all over again to take off the barrel to clean it!!!
Used your video to convert my Predator to AICS. Thanks! Ten round magazine seems a little ridiculous for a hunting rifle, but it's nice to have the option. Using the 5-round for range time and hunting.
Where did you get your adapter
@@brycelong1225 I called up Ruger Customer Service and paid $28 to have it sent to my door.
Thank you for telling me
If you purchase the Magpul brand AICS 5-round magazine(s) you can easily convert them to 6-round magazine)s by cutting of a section of the follower. The follower is even marked at the proper point to do so.
When hunting prairie dogs, the 10 rounder is not ridiculous at all but rather useful. You should see what quality 6.5 creed hunting loads do to those little bastards.
I'm not I ruger fanatic but i got to give them some credit. I traded a savage for an old ruger m77 mark 2 compact 260 rem but i had it rebarelled with a benchmark 26'' barrel and realized the factory little stock wasn't gunna cut it i went on their website registered the old rifle and ordered a scout stock aics mag well that was compatible with some customizing and also ordered a couple magazines and still ruger gave me the 20% off. the rifle is a bench tackdriver. thanks for the video and thanks ruger
Thank you. My Predator is in the mail and I can't wait to call Ruger with the serial number. Concise video
Great video and really appreciated the explanation and demonstration of using the jig!
Exactly what I did to mine. Didn't take long at all to convert.
Well done video I found very helpful in reinstalling the magazine release in my 6.5 Creedmoor Ruger American Predator after adjusting the trigger pull down to 3.5#... thanks for posting.
I did mine. Had to fit the latch with a file. Check your latch length against a magazine before assembly. Mush easier to do any filing before assembly. Pay attention to the factory profile if you have to. Each one can be a bit different.
I did this on my RA .308 on a Boyd's stock my RA 6.5 creedmoor is on a magpul hunter stock & they're both amazing
This helped a lot a was struggling with witch way the spring went
Thanks for the video. When I ordered my kit the sales rep told me to torque the screws to 30-35 in/lbs. I don't know if that is standard for all serial numbers or not so you may want to call Ruger to verify.
Yes, that spec is right. I was way off on my mention of torque in this video
Good, concise video. I have the LH compact .308. I'm hoping I can do the same for it, the LH 6.5 Creed is coming, but had to bite the bullet and but the RH 6.5 Grendel and 7.62x39. Just don't understand why Ruger won't rotate the bolthead 180 degrees and make LH models of these since they would have the entire market to themselves. . . But this was a really good clear video and I'll be referring back when I get the kit for the 7.62x39 adapter to use AR style since it has to be similar.
I'm thinking about getting a LH Predator in 308 and doing the mod. Or maybe just save the extra money and get the LH Scout. The Savage Impulse Hog Hunter would be interesting as well.
Absolutely. Would kill to have a .22-250 and 6 Creedmoor in LH
Does this kit work on the left hand Ruger Americans?
@@maxolsen2096 I just made this conversion for my left hand 6.5 creedmoor Ruger American Predator. It works just fine.
Your video walked me through it. Thank you.
Thanks much - just purchased and new Predator in 6.5cm and will do the same 🙂
Only thing I noticed with this conversation. Is the Ruger mags are loose enough that you can push the mag past the stop and it jam. I'm waiting for a call back from Ruger..
.
It worked with a little patience - Thanks again !
Thanks brother! Great video, easy to follow along 👍🏻.
So now you have to take that release out in order to remove your action from the stock? Thats kind of a bummer.
The torque spec for the action screws per Ruger is 60-80 in-lbs. Alternately tighten.
Wow! I was way off. Guess I need to have my elbow recalibrated. Thanks for the clarification. That's helpful.
@@VailAvenue get u a wheeler fat wrench. I put my predator in a magpul hunter stock and it's a tack driver
I’m glad to know you can change those out that’s great and that I can get it from Ruger so I’ll be changing It out thanks for sharing
Thank you. My mag well came sans instructions. The jug is very useful if you know how to use it.
Great video. I think I will do the upgrade. Hopefully it doesnt become sloppy like my sks mag release, seen alot of play
26 bucks for the conversion? that is class from ruger to make it available to those who didnt have the option before.
Saw your vid . Thanks, finished mine today. Seems better , loads and ejects better i think. Ill Find out tomorrow. And check my scope.
18 rounds no missfeeds. I like it better. Have a lazy Sunday.
Great information short and to the point,by the way what is an AI style magazine ? Are their other mags of this style that will also work? I have a 308 ranch rifle and am considering doing this same conversion.
AI is Accuracy International that has created a box magazine style for .308 and other calibers that has been adopted as somewhat of a standard. I'm not an expert so do your own research on that. But Magpul also makes AI magazines.
@@VailAvenue Thanks.I'll check them out, also again and very good informative vid!
Thank you for the video. Your video help me alott and I convert my Ruger American to AICS mag.
You did the exact opposite of what i want to do, i can imagine that release catching on everything and causing serious frustration for me.
When I attend precision rifle classes, we shoot 100 -120 rounds in 8 hours. I set this up for a class to do that. I have an appreciation for subdued features as well so I understand what you mean. It just comes down to setting things up for your use case. I've got 5 of these loaded and ready in training, and in a break, we are all charging mags to keep up with instruction. If you are hunting and shoot one round per day, it would probably not offer a benefit.
@@VailAvenue agree I'm trying to find out from ruger if i can just order the normal one but she needed the serial number and since i didn't purchase the firearm just because of that silly imho release i couldn't give it to her. Seems like they could tell me based on the fact that it's ruger and it has that stupid thing. Either they can or can be changed out.
@@VailAvenue normal one meaning the mag. Housing
Great Video, you did a good job with this!
Great video what sling is that if you don't mind?
Ruger specs are 60 to 80 inch pounds for the those screws.
Definitely will be coming back to this one since I just bought my second RAP, in 308 Win. Haven’t even been to the range yet to shoot it. MIGHT sell my first RAP in 6.5 CM although it’s a shooter, but will be doing the AICS Mag conversion in my little 308 for sure. Anyhow, any suggestions for a muzzle brake and if I really need one if I’m not particularly recoil sensitive? Thanks for the conversion demonstration!
why would you want to sell your ruger American creed? That's a fantastic tack driver for whitetail or whatever you put the crosshairs on. My shoulder prefers it over the .308
@@kurtglo letting my nephew hunt with the 6.5 this fall. Gonna try some Winchester 129 g Power Points in it next time at the range. It’s a great rifle but surprisingly my Ruger American Predator 308 doesn’t kick bad, despite its light weight. And with the 18” barrel it’s the exact same length as my other brush gun, my Marlin 35 Rem, which they apparently don’t make ammo for anymore 😢.
@@davidrussell631 that will make your nephew a great rifle. I hunted with a 7mm Rem mag here in Michigan until I fell from my tree stand while bow hunting. Another great tack driver from RA is the 7.62x39. Shoots great in the brush as well. Happy hunting
@@kurtglo I fell while trying to hang a stand almost thirty years ago. My mistake was in not using a linesman’s belt, although I honestly don’t recall ever seeing one used at the time. All I had at the time was a little shoulder harness they don’t even sell anymore that my wife picked up for me and told me to wear. Thankfully by God’s mercy the bones of my feet healed while in a cast and I had no permanent injury. So thankful you’re still with us after your fall.
@@davidrussell631 Thanks David- Yes, not many people survive a 25 foot fall and still live. Even "superman" Christopher Reeves parallelized himself after falling off a horse!
Which cheek riser is that ive been looking for one with low profile nuts like you have
You should get a torque wrench. Wheeler or harbor frieght
Yes very good to the point and easy to follow 👍
Does the kit come with the jig?
Thanks for the amazing video, BTW.
Yes
Great camera work.
The action screws do not have to be torqued down. They just need to be a tight snug fit.
Why not contact Ruger on the torque? When I did they specified 60 to 80 inch pounds. Why guess?
Ruger told me 30-35 inch pounds for the AICS
Sorry if I’m duplicating a question but what cheek riser is that? I need to make that addition to mine. Also, great video! Thanks.
It's from "Matthew's Fabrication" and you can now buy them on Amazon. I used smaller stainless thumbscrews from Mcmaster-Carr just because I wanted them more sub-dued, but he does provide the hardware including larger thumbscrews than are seen on mine in the video.
Do this with a left hand model. I just bought a left handed 6.5 Creedmoor after they (customer support) told me they would convert, but when i went to order the kit they, then told me the left hand could not be converted, if they would have told me that in the first place i would have bought a savage left hand already with the magazines
I was told the lefty would not convert, but I ordered the parts anyway. I want to find out for myself.
@@brianclevenger5521 Did it work?
@perfect7liberty AI mags are single stack center-feed. Right or left hand action is irrelevant
I know this was a while ago, but did they happen to provide a part number for this conversion?
You just have to call them with your serial number. You have to give them the serial number to determine if it is a conversion candidate. I don't recall anything about a part number for the kit
What kind of cheek rest is that!!!??
That looks awesome!
Matthew's Fabrication LLC. You can get them on Amazon. I used smaller thumbscrews than what was provided in the kit which I got from McMaster-Carr.
@@VailAvenue purchased! 👌 😃🤘🙌 thx brother
They just wont ship this to denmark been wanting one fpr AR mags for ever but no cigar wont sell out of states
The magazine retainer is a pain to replace. (I did it without a jig....made an improvised slave pin) Not thrilled with that design. Otherwise, I like the way my Ruger American Go wild shoots. God Bless America 🇺🇸 🙏 ❤️
Can you still use the 3 round mag that it came with? Great vid!
No, once you change the magwell, it is AICS mags only, 5 rounders or 10 rounders. I much prefer the box style magazine. All together better. I usually only use the 5 rounder, but it is just more intuitive and confidence inspiring to have a "normal" box style magazine.
@@VailAvenue awesome! Thank you sir 👍
have trouble with consistent feed on any ruger factory or 308 multicaliber magazine with the 22 250 cal.
Tried to order one,but they said won't work on a Lefthand model, what a major letdown.Im stuck with this cheesy stock mag that came with it.
Thanks for making this video i really appreciate it because I like the ruger American rifle but didn't like that pastic ammo Hooter
Well done ; informative. Thanks.
Hola no me vendes el cargador de 5 con el soporte si es 223?
How does it feed after the conversion? Can you top load the magazine? Can you single load?
Does this work for the regular American?
The only thing I could offer is to call Roger and give them your serial number to see.
Hey! Could anyone share the part number of this conversion kit? I cannot find this on a Ruger site and it's difficult sometimes to order like "I need a thing from this video". Rifle is Predator 308 model number 6974.
You have to call Ruger on the phone and give them your serial number. They do not publish this on thier site as an option.
.I just used a Remington 700 walnut stock, inletted the top for the Ruger American, dropped (bedded) in the V blocks, use Pacific Tool and Guage bottom metal. Much better.
How is it much better?
@@d30gaijin to start PTG is metal (vs. Ruger plastic). Oversized winter triggerguard, mag funnel, CNC machined for fit, vs Ruger injection molded plastic fit (magwell has to have to have exact tolerances to feed correctly since there is no front lug in AICS mags, nor detent, otherwise the mag rocks back and forth), PTG bottom metal can be glass bedded into place with zero flex, zero material weakness in cold weather, and not susceptible to structural damage in pro longed heat, and UV. Metal mags in PTG are drop free, extended latch, trigger hand operated.......and.... you don't have to go through all these steps to disassemble your rifle (like in the video, removing and re installing the mag latch). With the PTG, it just takes 1 allen wrench, and a few seconds. No disassembly of the mag latch....ever.
Or do you mean how is a wood stock better than the thin plastic ?
@@takinisurvivalchannel3812 Thank you for the detailed explanation. Very enlightening.
Wood vs. plastic stock is a whole different topic. I have used both with excellent success. My current Palma Rifle wears a laminated wood stock, although I have used McMillan glass stocks on my Palma rifles with equal success.
Again, thanks for your explanation.
Can you share tripod and cheek guard details please .
Добрый день,где купить такой магазин на 10 патронов можно ссылку на сайт
Does anyone know if theres a conversion kit for a Magpul Ruger American stock ? Thx
Would be nice if you guys gave us links in the description to these products.
You need to call Ruger customer service directly. No links online for the AICS magazine conversion kit. Have your serial number ready they will ask for it. They will also say that you need a notched bolt for the AI conversion to work but the smooth bolts work fine. Telephone: 336-949-5200
Very informative! Many thanks!
I have the go wild 350 legend, and its feeds and jams a lot with the AR platform and its a common issue for a lot of people. Has anyone tried this conversion with the 350 legend? And if so, did it fix jamming/feeding issues?
I have one on order for my 350 legend ranch right now. Same issues with feeding. Ruger said it would fit but didn't guarantee good feeding. Forums I've read through say it works awesome.
@@smedanglerbronzeback7893 I ordered one as well, I will let you what happens
Where can I buy this adapter ?
If your rifle the successfully chambering rounds without jam-ups don't change it to a magazine. I have a Ruger American ranch rifle and 5.56 NATO and they use AR magazines and about every 10th round jams up.
did you call them and ask for it? It's not for sale anywhere
Yes, as mentioned in the video, you have to call Ruger and give them your serial number to see if is a candidate for conversion.
Great video
not sure if anyone asked, but where did you get that jig?
It came with the kit from Ruger
How can I get the conversation for the first clip you had I don’t like it sticking out
I'm sure can. Call Ruger with your serial number and see if it's possible
Thanks for the video
now that is one use for a piddle pad. lol
Buy a screw driver type torque wrench at Harbor Freight. Why guess? BTW, It's 35 INCH pounds not foot pounds.
If you buy a new stock from Boyd’s you don’t need a conversion kit right?
Not sure on that. Aftermarket stocks totally change the options available. I wanted to keep the stock ruger stock. 26 dollars for the conversion from ruger was great for me since I just wanted to change the magazines. If you also want to change the entire stock, more options will be out in the market for sure
After assembling are you able to get a wrench in to separate the stock for later trigger adjustment?
No. Adjust the trigger first!
Just bough a Ruger American predator cambered in 308. i wonder would this be available in Canada? Thanks in advance
I think you just need to call Ruger and give them your serial number and go from there
@@VailAvenue ok then i will try tomorrow, appreciate the reply, happy shooting.
can this be done on a standard american Ruger?
Thanks for the lead.
EXCELLENT 😊
How long did it take for Ruger to ship you the kit?
It took about 4 weeks for the kit, and also took about the same for the magazines. I think that was due to keeping up with production demands during the pandemic.
What does your bolt look like?
Will this conversion work on the Standard Ruger American, or will it only work for the predator
I dont know. You need to give Ruger your serial number and they tell you if you are a candidate for conversion.
@@VailAvenue awesome thanks, I'll give them a shout and see

Where can I buy stuff to make conversion from oryginal to AICS magazine ?
It's in the video. You need to call Ruger and give them your serial number to see if your gun is a candidate for conversion. If it is, you buy the kit directly from Ruger over the phone.
What sort of raised cheek rest thing is that? I'm in the market for one for my Predator and am a new gun owner
There are a variety of ways to generate a cheek rest. The most common used to be a velcro on version. This one is a kydex that is fitted to this stock. 40 bucks from Matthew's Fabrication. It's great. Just Google them and you will find it
Where did you buy the mag?
Ruger mags you can get on the ruger website. I much prefer Magpul AICS mags which you can get from any Magpul dealer
Very nice.
I mean that’s a deal because I think I paid an extra hundred for that particular stock that I didn’t even use because I put it in a magpul hunter stock
Does the magpul hunter stock come with everything needed use aics mags without having to contact ruger for the conversion kit? Thanks
hello where I can buy this product? thanks
It's in the video. You have to call Ruger and give them your serial number to see if your rifle is eligible for conversion.
Are the new green 308 predators compatible with this upgrade?
I would guess the newer, the more likely, but you just need to call Ruger with your serial number. They determine off serial number only. I don't know which serial number groups work and which don't. But if you call and it is eligible, yiu can order the kit on the phone with them right then.
@@VailAvenue I haven't bought the gun online yet so no Serial number

Great video and info thanks sir but I gotta ask is that a dog pee pad?
Haha. Well these came from a hospital where they use them for everything, but I've been told they sell them at Costco as dog pee pads. So yes I guess. Great for keeping solvents and oil off your bench.
Unbolting the action from the stock wouldnt affect your zero. The scope is mounted solid to the action and shouldnt move at that point.
Honestly even taking it off the rail will have little affect
I would think the same.
As long as you werent sloppy about re installing it i would think it would still be awfully close
I take mine off and put it on other rifles with little shift in zero when I dial back to my zero and put it back on the rifle it lives on
How ,a ny rounds is that magazine
I have 5 and 10 rounders. They make both.
