- An answer to the question many of you have been asking. How much does headlight and taillight tint effect the light output of your lights?? In this video I show you exactly what it's like without tint, with light tint and with dark tint on the headlights. With a side by side comparison showing the difference between each one.

7:20 - "You should not be driving at night time if you can't see right now."
Words to live by,
Thank you for that.
People are saying the camera settings are the flaw of this test, but I think the real flaw is the distance from the wall. There is not a difference in the comparisons because the headlights are too close to the wall. At a farther distance, there would be a noticeable difference.
Great video though. I appreciate the time that you took out of your day to upload.
Its both, coz the brightness could be affected by setting such as exposure and white balance. On top of that, a light output test against a wall thats 3 meters away is nowhere near relative to what the lights would be used for. So all in all, this really was a senseless test that should have been done with the wall being more than 20ft away from the car as that would be where it would matter most.
One major problem with all these perspectives and side line analyses is that he is telling you what he is seeing with his own eyes. Unless you're openly calling him a liar I think he can judge pretty well. Bro looks pretty fit, don't think his eyes are likely to be fudged🤑. Beyond that, do you all really think he hasn't, given what he does for a living, driven tinted hl down the road. Trust is always an issue but if Bro lies he will lose rep and therefore business, which he won't do. Great vid as always. Keep em coming👍👍🤑
The problem with this is that the camera sensor can change its sensitivity to compensate for different light levels. The real way to do this would be with a light meter to get a lux reading. The only exception is the one shot where he has one dark and one light at the same time.
Yep. As a photographer your exactly correct.
If the camera settings were all set to manual and the non-tinted image was not clipping then this comparison WOULD work. But with a camera set to any auto mode (T/A/ISO) then the comparison fails. Side by side of the WALL would be very helpful.
I am thinking about a light smoke tint for a Daytona Gray RS5... undecided.
And even with the light and dark tint, you can see that the light output is reduced. Told me all I needed to know.
If he used a real camera and locked all settings that would be a fair comparison.. Set the setting based on no tint, the use the same settings for all 3
I'm pretty sure his camera is adjusting the exposure to make all of them look identical in light output. Need to set camera to manual settings for fair test.
Agreed!
vr6- hit-licks agreed the darkest tint actually looked brighter
Pretty sure? I am freaking certain.
I would like to see the light output measured with a tint meter. I think there would be a difference.
Looks really good, thank you Christian!👍🏼👍🏼
Hey Chris. I found your channel by accident and I'm so glad that you're from Vaughan. Many of your videos are so informative and you're very confident and knowledgeable in what you're doing. I just got my 2019 Civic hatchback sport touring and I'll definitely hire you to wrap my car!
Sorry Christian, but you need to repeat this test with locked exposure on your camera. You can clearly see less light is being reflected back onto the cars in the head-on shots, but the light-wall shots look identical because the camera is adjusting itself.
Tinting doesn’t matter when you have camera eyes 👍🏽
Robot ears?
Camera is adjusting. You need a lumens meter
lux meter
End of story!
What he said☝️☝️☝️☝️
Wow this video is perfect! I wanted to tint my Camaro Headlights but heard about some people having a brown hugh to it. Between that an diminished visibility, I was pushed away from the idea until now. You completely debunked both fears. Thank you!
Did you tint yours?
Thanks for making the vid. Much appreciated. LUX meter would help quantify light output.
Even with manual exposure, its pretty difficult to show realistic brightness changes through a camera.
Most aren't aware that human eyes dont see brightness in a linear fashion.
When it comes to concentrated light, for our eyes to perceive double the brightness, the light output needs to quadruple.
OMG so glad someone took the pain and time to do this. I always wondered and now I know. Thank you so much. Love from India
Thank youuu. This gives me a general idea what shades of tint are best for my application
Thank You for this video. I've been tempted for years to tint my headlights, but was always too afraid I wouldn't be able to see.
Best video on headlight tint. I am at this point to decide what to use and you have nailed it on the head.
Didn’t even know you could do this until I was at a shop yesterday. Great video before I go get mines today thanks!
Excellent video! Been trying to decide if I want to tint my headlights and this has solidified my decision to tint them!! Thanks so much!
Just came across this and I think the light smoke would be the best seeing as how it doesn’t diminish the light a whole lot but it also gives it the aggressive look during the day I appreciate your video and honestly subbin for this content
Thank you for making this video. Saved me so much time and effort.
Great job with this video. Straight to the point and no bs.
Great video, I was on the fence about light tint and you've convinced me. P.s. your cars paint is friggan dope!
Thanks for this vid! Just got my headlights tinted with light smoke and the tail lights with dark smoke. So cool! 💯✨
Hows the visibility at night in the headlights?
Video was very informative. I learned something new. I think the light output would have a clearer example if the light was shown on a road at night. That way we could see how far out it projects.
I have the light smoke hex rt now and it definitely makes a difference. It's darker at night.
Reason why I removed the Vvivid hex light wrap. Well I live in l.a and cops are looking for any excuse to pull you over.
Hoang you should not be driving at night, get that.lol
Christian as always another great video and an awesome comparison
Chris , thank you! your videos are helpful. i plan to do my lights the week.
What a totally helpful video test - many thanks! Just what I needed to know.
This video was very well put together keep up the good work
Dude best comparison video ever...thanks
Thank you!! I'm gonna try to do the light smoke probably by my birthday. Super excited.
Thanks for the video it helped me decide to tont my xterra lights awesome quality and production on the video
Great video bro!... I appreciate the info. Thank you!
Than you this video helped me so much! I’m definitely tinting my headlights today! I already have vivid tint in my room just sitting
Awesome presentation, you nailed it brother.
Excellent demo. Thanks.
Great informative video. Thank you.
I wrapped our 2021 Mazda 3 headlights with dark smoke and it's a drastic difference in light output. Dark smoke is too dark to safely drive at night. It looks awesome, but safety has to be first.
So many of you out there seem to think you need the brightest lights possible out at night, thinking the brightest led lights are safe and cool but all you’re doing is blinding the rest of us on the road! This VVIVID LIGHT SMOKE TINT IS NOT UNSAFE, I have it installed it on my Dodge Avenger headlights and DARK SMOKE on the tail lights and yes you loose a little light but not an unsafe amount and not enough to draw police attention, it’s an amazing product and fairly easy to use (tail lights have 2 round bubbles which is tricky but learn by mistakes I say) but I also don’t blind oncoming traffic like the led spotlights people are replacing theirs with or the ones the manufacturers are using these days, and my car looks way way cooler! So those saying they instantly removed it, grow a pair and stop blinding everyone else around you, even county driving is not unsafe as I do it often, and to those still using VVIVID PRODUCTS...........KEEP ON WRAPPIN!
if you use a light meter that will tell you the difference in light output
Man I just want to say thank you! I was going back and forth on whether or not to tint my headlights and you answered everything I needed to know! I’m a visual person and need to see something before I can completely commit to it!! Thanks again so very much!!
how's your tint doing? no regrets?
Awesome demonstration!!!
Thanks for the video. This was the exact info I was looking for.
So many photography experts here which have a point. But still very informative. I noticeable difference that I did notice however is the tint does dramatically reduce glare.
Great comparison and testing!
This video was helpful and informative to me. About to see if you have one for tail lights. If not then could you post one? Thanks!
Thank you so much, super helpful! Surprised how little of a difference the dark tint made.
i’ve used those hex tints before, best tint i’ve ever used. 💯
Awesome video man 👍🏻
Finally a helpful video thanks man
Ty so much for this video. I just bought dark from vivid and was scared I wouldn’t be able to see. This answered my questions
Ok that was 6 months ago. Can you see at night?
?
Nice comparison. Thanks 😎👍
Thank you for this.. It was a question on the back of my mind somewhere. Lol
Great comparison vid. Keep in mind that halogen bulbs might make a difference with not being as bright as HID/LED bulbs.
Love this video. Super succinct and informative..
Thank you
Thanks for the demonstration
Wow the best way to get alldout out the way thanks for that amazing explanation
Excellent video. Thank you!!!
I had dark smoke matte and the difference in light output was quite significant . I had to take it off for fear of plowing through a deer that I could not see coming
Hell yeah huge difference. Took my shit off. Going to try yellow. Kind of just like it to protect my headlamp since the lamps expensive and films cheap to redo later of it get messed up where as a headlamp isn’t cheap to replace or get repaired.
I'm thinking of tinting because it's looks beautiful. How I would only be riding in the city and my city is very well lit. Do you think it's a bad idea?
@@anoofadam351 it is illegal in most states.
It's definitely appreciated that you tried to make a comparison. But the only way to really test is to set the car back a little further and test the hotspot with a Lux meter.
thank you this video really helped me decide what i was going to do with my street bike its all blacked out and after i have this done im sure its going look amazing thanks again i was worried but even with the dark tint its more then enough for me great helpful video wish you could tint my bike for me lol
Interesting. So it seems to decrease the light blur and intensity while looking at the light itself, while not actually changing the amount of light that exits the headlight. I've got a black car with already smoked tails so I should grab a roll of dark tint and do the fronts so give it a real mean look
Thank you, Sir. I consider this a great video, under the circumstances. You have shown that there is relatively little light difference that resulted from the tints... at the source! There is sure to be incremental lost of intensity, the further the light must travel. However, that could be the subject of another video.
Fantastic.. I was wondering this question on Vvivid Dark/Light Smoke. Question answered!
Thank you so much for this video! Very helpful!!!
I have full LED lights and dark smoked my headlights. I can clearly see I lost a lot of light compared to no tinted headlights (obviously). I like the dark smoke on it. But I also like some clear vision with my lights which I dont have anymore. So you have to make some compromises.
Wow. So when looking at the car in the dark you can def see difference in the lights. You can also see that the light reflecting off the wall illuminates the car less and less as tinted darker but the three shots of the white wall look identical. The light also does look nice and white and not brown or yellow. Cool vid. Thanks. Answered my questions.
This was very helpful. Thanks
Good video bro thanks for the breakdown and showing us how it goes because I was going to get mine did
Thank you. Glad you made the video. It helped me make my decision. I was worried that the Dark Smoke might be too dark. It doesn't seem so in the vid.
This video was definitely helpful. Thanks.
Nice, now i know what 2 choose
Super helpful man thanks 🙏
I just put some hex light tint on my vehicle and it takes away a lot of light. It also makes the projector fuzzy not sharp. Looks awesome though but might take it off. I will drive with it for a while, then decide.
Awesome review bruh
Im getting the dark smoke on my charger rt. This video was a huge help bro.
how's your light output holding up?
Thanks man, great video, definitely will use dark tint
Greetings from Poland
Great video man. Thank you
Nice. My questions were answered. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Awesome and helpful video!🤘🏻🤘🏻
I am completely sold. Now the world should know that the dark smoke tint will boost the light output. Mind blown!
What a legend thanks man really appreciated
Very good . Thanks for the video . Now I know which one light dark
Would be cool if you did a test drive with and without the tint for comparison
I have used both and the dark smoke diminishes the light output way more than I am comfortable with. I am removing and going back to the lighter one.
Just a thought, but if using halogens, maybe changing from 55w to 100w bulbs or even higher might compensate for the loss?
Dope video! Light Smoke tints already came in and I plan to put them on a 3rd gen CRV factory lights. The headlight case is pretty old and foggy so I polished them up good to remove the haze and plan on putting the light smoke tints on for style + UV protection.
I have these on my tail lights right now and light output seems to be just fine. I was actually surprised as to how well light is transmitted through the lens and tint. Im sure for head lights it would be just fine. Best way is to buy some slap it on the car and find out for your selves.
Which tint do you have...dark or smoke?
Awesome video glad somebody did what you just did because I put the light smoke on my car and it looks good and I have daytime running lights when they’re on you can’t really see that it has any tint on it so I am going to go with the dark to see if that looks better. I’m sure it will. I don’t drive the car much at night and I definitely don’t drive it in the rain. I’m strictly going for the look. Thank you very much for doing this video.
I think it also depends on what type of headlight bulbs are used i had stock halogen with light smoke and could notice a big difference. I switched to led and can see way better. And on some cars the heat will cause it to bubble after a year
Thanks Chris. All the way from Nairobi Kenya
i can def see a difference. thx dude
Awesome review 👍
Awesome! Thanks man
Great video. I like the lighter smoke tint best. I would have gone and bought the dark smoke without knowing. thanks for the info
Thanks for the video man
This Video is really helpful
What I got from the video is that maybe it won't blind oncoming traffic with the light smoked. But the lights still work properly enough to see as a driver. I'll try the light smoke. Thanks for the video
Hey I have a question I used vvivid light smoke tint on my headlights and they came out good I'm a complete amateur and still got it done good enough. But my question is I noticed that when I pulled up the film to adjust and it seems like I took some clear or plastic off my headlight? What would I do in that scenario? I just installed today
GREAT VID.
So to me, the dark and lite tent looks the same to me against the wall. But that was with the white light.
You think it will be the same with blue H.I.D lights?
Ahh Here Is The Video I Was Lookin For 👍
So is that the same for tail light, like could you put dark smoke on the back?
Thanks for this video bro
