Tint Film:
Easy removal with a heat gun but can leave residue when removed
High quality, thick material will last for 3-5 years
Protects light lens from rock chips and road debris
Restores hazy lights and hides light scratches
Different shades and many colors available
Spray Tint:
Can easily coat complex shaped lights with dramatic curves
Removable but depending on what you use, you can damage the light lens
Durable but will fade overtime
Restores hazy lights and reduces scratches on light
3-4 coats required, depending on how light or dark you want it
Black tint used to smoke out lights and red tint used to restore fading red on light or spray a clear part red

Salaam. Does the spray tint have a gloss once it dries?
If you do even solid coats you will get a gloss finish or spray 2k clear on top
@@EhabHalat how many coats? Do I have to sand or clean with alcohol again?
One light coat followed by a solid wet coat and thats all no need to clean if u sprayed tint already
@@EhabHalat where are you located? I'm in Maryland.
For Spraying method ;; If you're not sure how dark or light you may want yours . . Turn the taillights on while tenting so that you get a better vision on seeing how much you want it or how less you prefer it.... I once did it this way and made it much easier to see how it's coming out. ..
Thank you for such a great tip
But couldnt give you a like as it is at the ideal likes already
Such a simple thing why did I never think of this. I’ve done my lights before with nightshade but this time around I’ll flip the lights on too, thanks!
@@Rhineheimer I know sometimes the obvious is not so obvious that’s why all of our brains can come up with great ideas that one of us can’t think of at the time we all got good advice
Did them last night, turned out badass on my q50!
@@Leah006 what like number was it at lol
I've enjoyed the spray tint process. With spraying, it's possible to get the level of tinting you want, and it's easy to mask off different parts of the light to get different levels of tint on clear vs red plastic light housings.
Able to restore it back to original ? Just curious 💚
@@Leah006 the video says the spray is removable. Probably a solvent cleaner. Plastic is easy to restore also with compound and buff
@@Leah006 that's my biggest concern too. I like the way the spray looks. It looks IMHO way better than a wrap. But, let's face it, none of us are going to be tinting our tail lights for "off road use." I need to know that I can get it off if the Dunkin Doughnuts crew demands it, without wrecking the lights.
Try goo gone or goof off
If your reversing light/s is built into the rear light cluster. Do you tint those as well!
I love how big of a difference tinting the tail lights made. Thumbs up!

Hi bro thanks for video just wanted to ask how much times do you spray and do you use different spray colours for start and finish
Sufi Islam no problem! You can spray as much as you want. It only recommends 3 coats but the more coats you do the darker it gets. I use the same VHT tint spray can from start to finish.
Thanks so Much bro
What about if you decide to take off the paint or the plastic is that possible?
I would use spray tint and then clear coat with 2k spray max
Me and all my friends use film on ALL of our cars. The feeling of accomplishment of wrapping a 2013 avenger taillight was great.
I use film as well
What percentage film did you have
So the film will last longer than that car?
Definitely going to use spray tint.
but to remove it's more harder than tint film.
So how is it long term
@@LowerClassClique lasts a good 4-6 months. It fades after a while. Would probably last longer if you spray some clear coat after
Its not hard to remove if you DONT use clear coat... just use brake cleaner or a bit of gasoline..EASY!... If you do use clear coat like I did (2KClear) it will last a long time.. Ive had tinted tailights on my silverado for 2 years... still looks good.
Lol
Excellent how to video!
Didn't know the spray existed. Time for my 05' black CTS to get a makeover.
I’m doin the same thing with my 06’ :)
Am i the only one here that's going to acknowledge the fact that the ladder in the reflection made it look the film still had bubbles in it ?? until my brain realized it was a reflection, i almost gave this video a thumbs down !
Glad you noticed that ahaha
Dude I just saw that and thought it looked like that cause I'm high. Glad I'm not the only one lol
There actually are bubbles ! But they aren’t air bubbles. I personally use vivvid air tint and because of it being a dry apply vinyl like the one he uses it leaves behind an orange peel effect due to the paper backing both vinyls use.
Give me the tint vinyl any day, nice to see you also put masking tape around the edges too.
That's what I use too
Beautiful job 👍 done there 👌
Preferred sprayed option,as you say you can get better tucked in !!
Nice one.
This was a great instructional video. Just enough information to be informative without all the talk talk talking that goes on in so many other videos. Well done
Thank you! Much appreciated :)
Spray tint it's like closed eye no different color until you turn lights on 😍😍
Great video! Not too long, covered all the info needed and answered all my questions about options and the process!
Thank you glad you enjoyed :)
Film tint looks amazing looks great.
Great video, very informative and easy to follow. I already have the spray paint, so will be trying that first.
Thank you and good luck!
Great video. Very informative and good to see a step by step comparison video. Thanks
cj07771 thank you :)
Great video. I had no idea spraying was option. This gives me something to seriously consider for my car as I have already blacked out badges and the grill, the windows are next and maybe the taillights - thanks
Awesome! Thanks for watching
Just used the spray, followed your how to and they came out great on my camaro. Thanks man, I was about to drop 150 on some billet covers. This saved me some cash and they look better than the pics for the covers I was eyeing.
Awesome man I’m glad the video helped!
@@EhabHalat thanks again bro.
Subbed for the great help. Keep it going
I like how you did two different angles. Great job on both methods
Hey Man. Absolutely excellent instructional video! Very detailed, concise and straight to the point... Even the music wasn't annoying like other videos. That is why you have many many viewers. I would encourage you to post more videos like this one. Thank you for posting!
Thank you i appreciate the feedback and yes im working on more vids!
Nice video i think people like to over complicate things when it comes to cars this is soo simple thanks
I've always done a spray tint when restoring headlights and taillights for friends with rustoleum. I'd sand the original clear completely off and spray with the tint, and then go over with a good, wet layer of 2k clear with 2 or 3 layers. This has always worked for me and given an extremely deep shine after polishing and waxing. And it works with any shade from a light smoke to full blackout.
Well said. I sprayed 2k over my G35 tail lights for the first time and they turned out so nice! Adding that 2k definitely makes a huge difference in appearance and durability!
Does giving the tint job clear coats make it a more permanent application rather than just lasting a year?
Yes using clear coat will make it last way longer
@@EhabHalat were you able to find a 2K clear in a prepackaged rattle can or did you use a true spray gun?
@@cmcolfax1 i use spraymax aerosol 2k glamour

your method is perfect...not like others too much talking and doesn't say what kinf of material they will to darken the head light.. good job man !

I've done both and used PPG shopline clear over the VHT for a smooth shiny factory look. But I prefer Vivvid tint much more, less fuss.

Best explained video on how to tint tail lights. Good job sir. 👍
Thank you :)
Great Content 👌👍 I used the film tint on my car(Vw Mk1), because it's easy to remove and change the colour or shade in future.
Awesome! :) thanks for the comment
@kent - better change it every year or two. If film drys out, it becomes "sand to remove". Seems there's no winning.
I still say its easier with one person removing the tail light and placing it a vise of some sort. That way the vynal can wrap all the way around, leaving you with a longer product. Ive seen so many wraps that you can see the edging ends..
I can relate by trying to apply the tint film alone... very hard, definitely helps with two people like you mentioned!
I’ve used vht tint on my Camry reverse lights and I was happy when I had it like that it looked different and unique !
Awesome! Definitely gives the car a fresh look
To anyone who can’t decide what method to do, I really don’t recommend vht nightshade. No matter how well it’s applied you can still tell it’s spray paint. Take the time to wrap your taillights trust me it will look way better.
Also hard to get it even. I can tell wrap vs paint at nights it's awful
You guys haven’t done it right then, mine came out better then tint film.
@@SuperSharpshot2427 agreed! He did such an awesome job, i know that i don't have those skills lol

Im glad to hear that!
Thank you, I was going to buy darkened tail lights and they were 130 NJ, but now I got a cheaper solution!

Id use Spray max 2k clear after vht. It gives you best results in a clear coat can and they won't fade.
So you do add a clear coat for better gloss and protection?
2kclear is awesome....
Justin Schafer yes it will look glossy
Do you wait for the VHT to dry completely before adding clear coat?
Yes i usually wait 1 hour before i spray the clear coat
spray a light coat of clear coat and double the tint life

I love that tape thing with the plastic wrap, never seen that it's pretty cool
Saves a ton of time masking up!
Very helpful 🙏
Wow thank you so much for sharing
Claudia Valencia no problem :)
Great video! Needed to see this. I made my mind up. I'm going with spray tint on my Cadillac Srx. 👌
Awesome! Good luck
Great great video. I'd rather use the spray if i do it myself, and the film if i pay for others to do it. Regardless if there both done right, it really doesnt matter.
Just gotta plasti-dip the Audi emblem and it’s perfect 👌🏼
I actually liked the sprayed on one better....!! Good job brother 🙏🏼🙏🏼💪🏼
Gilberto Dejesus thanks man
They both look equally good.
This is an awesome video. It makes a difference when the tail lights are has a ton of curves like the 2019 ram 1500 tail lights. When spraying, how do we reduce the tacky and smoothness of the lights?
Thank you! When using the spray tint you have to start off with a light coat and then medium coats. Make sure you are about 6-8 inches away from the light and do 50% over lapping coats for smoothest finish.
I like the spray.. just not the wait time..24hrs.. the spray gives you the ability to make better designs in the lights
Wait what do you mean better designs?
LA CHARGERS he wants to draw on horses and shit
Looking forward to do my 2g eclipse entire taillight... Spray may be the way
here looking at how todo my 1g eclipse!! lmao dsm lifeee
Amazing video man thanks for the help!!!
Ay thanks for the comment 👍🏽
Outstanding video. I used Rustoleum Tint because I couldn't find VHT. Came out a little flat and not as shiny as the VHT shown in the video. I have a can of SprayMax 2K Clear from another project I'm thinking of using.
Yeah use 2k clear to add some gloss👍🏽
The spray can easily stay on longer then wrap.. first of all I always take of the lights to get the paint all around the corners.. second, I finish with a 2K clear coat to make a perfect and much stronger finish! And therefore I can also polish it if it gets wash scratches!
And I can also decide how dark I want it with spray.
spray dont last for shit. Just say you are not experienced to use proper tint film.
Danny Hansen dude you’re old we get it, chill out
Just wanna say:
longer than* wrap
@@Executiveinvestments- do you even know what 2k clear is? It'll last longer than any film lmao

Do you just suck at spray painting?
Hi there mate love watching your video but I was just wondering if I could spray tint my car windows with this???
seki CUSTOM you can
In my opinion i haven’t tried but i wouldn’t do it. It could come out uneven and blotchy. If you want to tint the windows just use tint film for windows. It will give you the cleanest look

Good thinkin 99
My Aussie VF series 2 Calais Sports wagon. (Chevy Camaro SS) Has big complex tail lights that have a convex bulge in the middle with a fairly sharp edge at the bottom. The Vivid wrap was near to impossible even with a second person using the heat gun. Smaller flatter tail lights the Vivid wrap would be achievable with patience with another person handling the heat gun duties. I have to resort to using the VHT tint spray with a few coats of gloss clear coat for longevity.
With the clear coat how long does the tint and clear hold up? I have a 10th gen which the tail lights look like a pain for tint film. Thanks
Ive had mine done for two years with clear coat and no issues! Just make sure u do a light coat followed by a solid coat of 2k
Update. The vivid wrap just takes practice, patience and perseverance to self apply. The key is sufficient heat to mould and stretch working out any air bubbles. With care it will look way better and last indefinitely. Over any tint sprays.
Thank you for existing
Haha thank you
Great video !
Awesome video man! keep it up
VHT is what I used on my Honda don't go over 3 coats it's pretty dark but visible.
Goat on Molly have you gotten pulled over? is it bad to tint your tail lights with spray? lemme kno asap!
@@ghostfacedoge8266 I have been pulled over for it technically it's not legal but everyone does it. As long as you do it right the first time you'll be fine it can run very easily so be careful.
Definitely using Tint, I’ll just use the Access tint I’ll have from when I do my windows
I dont think window tint will work on the lights. The tint for the lights is a much thicker film
@@EhabHalat ahhh.. thanks for that! silly me

How would you charge for tint version in general

Thank you glad it helped :)
I did this to my 87 firebird, It turned out great. Im thinking of doing it again to a 99 civic.
Awesome thats great to hear
Spray tint,spray tint,spray tint.......YO! Pro finish
Spray tint, it seems so much easier for the same thing essentially, have to re do it more but still
Russ Cordner yeah and I feel like the can would be good for multiple uses if u mess up or need to redo it down the line
Clearcoat it with a good 2k clear. It will last for decades. Spray on 2 layers and it can even be polished when fine scratches appear after years.
wow great explanation! 👍
Thank you :)
Awesome tutorial video. Thank you for showing this how to. Could I please know what did you use to clean tail lights before spraying with tint spray and what do you use after to keep lights clean when tint spray is applied?
I use soap and water mixture and then 99% rubbing alcohol to kill any grease, dirt, oil left on the lens.
To keep them clean just wash vehicle once a week
When using the film tint spray SLIGHTLY soapy water on the tail light, and squeegee the water out, makes it so much easier to get out the wrinkles and bubbles I promise, I know from A LOT of experience
That's the key to anything that's waterproof installing a film
I used the red VHT all the time to make sure my IS300 doesn’t get mistaken for a Honda 😂
is still look like honda
Only Honda Ricers spray or tint their lights.
Do you have to completely remove the spray tent after reapplying it
Thairish hondas are slow tho
@@sohrabi947 no. Front wheel drive cars are faster than rear.
I do not own a heat gun but I will use the spray method, thanks a lot
It’s like 8$ at harbor freight
Thanks a lot. I like spray tinting better from looking at it, it looks like a smoother process and where i live, it can snow hard or ice will get on your car dvd make icicles so yea. I love the annotations while doing it, keep it up.
Thank you!
@@EhabHalat You're welcome!! I just heard from my neighbor mechanic that the tints work good in the winter with the types that can be used for the headlights.
Yup if applied properly they should last a very long time
Yea sadly ima have to spray tint but ima just remove my tail lights so I don’t have to tape lmao
@Corbin Cox my tail lights are easy to take off. 5 twist off Plastic screws, take out the bulbs and pull and it's out
Genius
Awesome video, extremely easy to follow.
One major concern though, when spray painting them I didn’t realise how dark it really turned out until I turned the lights on and realised I did one too many coats.
Does anyone have any recommendations on how to remove some of the layers without damaging the lens too much?
Over time it will fade without clear coat once it does just do one fresh cost of tint spray then clear coat it so it will last longer
Brake cleaner will take it all off so you can start again. No clean way to remove just one layer.
Maybe rubbing compound would thin it but not perfect.
All or nothing on this one🤣
I bought precut vinyl tint and hopefully i can install properly they quoted me 150 to install so ima do it myself. Thanks for the video
Take your time and follow instructions carefully and you should be fine👍🏽
@@EhabHalat I appreciate that thank you
Just curious tho, does this car has halogen taillights? Im just wondering do i need to change to led first before tinting/spray my tail lights
Vinyl may take longer, and may be more difficult, but at least I dont run the risk of ruining my tail light. And yes i may have risk or scratching the paint but honestly thats easier to not fuck up than accidentally spraying my lights too heavy
How does no one get this? Spray is for newbs that can’t *wrap* their head around application.. but if people wanna make my wrap jobs look better by spray painting theirs 🤷♂️ cool. Maybe they like that fuzzy inconsistency that all rookie spray-jobbers have. Do it right, even if it takes a few tries, looks multitudes better than tagging your ride.
And if you are just a stubborn fool.. at least take the 5 minutes to take your lights out to spray.. you’ll save the time from taping in the long run.
@@dustinkent8960 if you know how to spray paint and make it look good i dont really care i just prefer wrapping it makes more sense to me
Spray tint looks super easy! how much was the can?
It definitely is the easier method. VHT night shade cost me $17.99 CAD ($13.59 USD) The vvivid tail light tint cost me $15.98 CAD ($12.08 USD)
Which colour tint was it ? Light black or dark black ?
The film tint used in the video is dark black
@@EhabHalat where can I find the spray tint?
anthony marquez you can find it at your local hardware store. Im in Canada and i get it from Canadian Tire. You can probably find it at Home Depot or Lowes
Thanks for the tutorials 👍👌
Of course :) thanks for the comment
This video was most impressive!!
So have you tried spraying this on and then covering with a clear coat for layered protection??
Damian Ramey hey! Yes of course you can add a clear coat on top for added protection!
Liquid Dipper have you tried something like that? I’m curious about the results over time with the color fading.
Damian Ramey i haven’t but i have seen other people try and it does help reduce colour fading over time
Adding a 2k clear coat over the vht nitshades then wetsanding with 2000 grit, then buffing and polishing will come out like a mirror and will make it last a long time. I've done it. I've had trouble applying the film to tail lights and its frustrating but, maybe I just suck at it.
I was about to ask same thing. I may try that when I paint my truck
What would you recommend for a 2017 Infiniti Q50? How do you remove the NiteShades spray, if needed? No wet sandpaper needed for the NiteShades spray? Thanks.
It all depends what you are experienced with. The spray tint is easier and all you need to remove it is a product called “goo gone” or 99% rubbing alcohol
@@EhabHalat will the rubbing alcohol or the goo gone product scratch or discolor the taillights while removing?
Muhammad as long as you only use 50% rubbing alcohol and water mixed and for the goo gone make sure it says “safe on plastic” then you will be fine
Awesome man thanks for the video.
Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed :)
Great video. Thanks. When i paint it, is there a good and easy way to remove the paint ?
For the spray tint usually a product called goo gone will work but might fade the lens on the light so would have to do a wet sand and clear coat them again to make them look fresh
😍
l like red taillights way better overall, but i hate nothing as much as orange in taillights. best looking taillights imo are e39 sedan white/red lci taillights.
Awesome video!!
I clear coated over the Rust-Oleum brand. Only bc i found out that it dries matte and textured if you spray too far away. But a can of clear filled it in and now it looks great
