Niice! The Double heel lock in works better the faster you go, to a point of course. but, it feels better with speed than just standing there, since the cross lock in is actually more technical and can be harder to do /get in to when going fast. Usually it's frontside 50 with double heel and backside 50 with the cross lock. Great inspirational video!
Former sponsored skater here...take it from me : roll up with a little speed toes towards rail. Ollie MAKE SURE to get back truck on focus on BACK truck getting on and thats it..you will get cut up learning rails but in the words of ever skater ever, even on your best day your still going to eat shit this is a tough sport..don't worry about locking in it doesn't apply like this guy thinks when you really start 50 50ing its more of a center of balance thing you will get with experience on rails..like everything in skating it more of a feel than you think
Yo James, I'm glad this helped! I totally feel you, rails have always been pretty terrifying, especially grinds. After you do them more and more, it gets less scary though!
@@scottliebowitz4605oh wait I just checked your channel. One of the skateparks you are at in most of your videos, used to be my local until I moved around 2 years ago
This is tight. Definitely had a bad experience in the past trying to 50-50 a round rail. Idk now that im older i feel like it would be alot easier especially after watching this
Just go with speed and Ollie up....nowadays everything is with pinch and stuff...unless you want get for 30 ft just grind it....jumping stationary on the rail is much scarier
no, doing that will cause you to get in a heel or toe side lock in on both front and back trucks, and when that happens you’re very likely to slip off the rail front or back, like he showed in the video while doing heelside.
The best advice is you should just 50-50 small curbs and boxes and work your way up first. If you're looking for a hack to not bust ass- well then when you Ollie onto the rail you lean forward so you can jump off and bail. You might as well do a feeble or a smith with this hack. Watch any good skater and you'll notice the trucks are flat on none of this sideways stuff. People will get hurt watching this vid. Coming from someone who can 50-50 a 13 stair over 12 years ago... maybe more if I tried. I'm too old now but yeah it's literally the same as a normal 50-50... you'll find your balance over time. Don't learn the wrong way or push too far beyond your skill you'll just bust ass
This a video that i am going to watch over and over again as I am trying it (if I can get this trick down I will post a vid of it on my channel and I will shout you out)
@@davidfhth6842 well I think I will take regular Jason’s advice over yours because he is REALLY good and I don’t know how good you are. Thanks for trying to help any ways✌🏻

It’s actually a lot harder to 50 a round rail going slow, so by the time you’re doing it fast you’ll be cruising.
fr after the 1st you get so cocky
This is the most amazing skate tutorial I’ve ever seen!
This gives me mad hope. Thank you
Bro that lock is so clean, you got all of that right there
That’s a nice way to break it down into sections
Literally just learning this now. This will help so Much. Thanks
this shit really change my game thank you my G
I'm 26 just now trying to skateboard as new hobby with my kids, ur videos help me alot👍
Hey, that's awesome. Hope you and your kids are having a blast with it :D
I learned it going head on from the beginning of the rail.
that's actually a really great way to learn it, i wish i saw this sooner
This helps me a lot. I've been skating for almost 10 years and I've never had the confidence to do that trick. Thanks so much
Damn .. have you just been pushing around the last 10 years ?? Jk
@@zureai damn I feel that tbh. Nah but I mainly do ledge, mini ramp, and flat ground. And skate some stairs. Rails have always terrified me though

hey man i cant really ollie either but we’ll get there! (:
If you get tired of trying you can always switch to aggressive inline.

For me heel side lock in feels just as solid as a ledge
I love the breakdown, and I love your confidence man! Thank you for the inspiration!

Nice work man. I’ve been skating for 15 years now and round bars still sketch me out. Once you split a shin on one, it’s your never the same lol
This is awesome, good job! Still scares the hell out of me. I like the pole thing though
Awesome about to get a round rail from the local shop so this is a big help
Thanks for showing me that I needed to watch that I’m still trying to know how to Ollie I want to Boardslide Nose slide and that would be fun
Nice! Now I just need a pole to bring to the skatepark
Great way going about it
I tried this yesterday and totally died at the first attempt 😂
Thanks man
This is awesome!!!!
Good shit!
Going fast helps
You’ll understand one day how to only use your heels. In the streets cross locking is sketchy you can really fuck your shit up.
Cross locking is for backside heel lock frontside
Just go with speed and Ollie up....nowadays everything is with pinch and stuff...unless you want get for 30 ft just grind it....jumping stationary on the rail is much scarier
I agree.
That's some smart thinking boss!
Maybe I can stop slamming my wrists into the concrete now👍thanx!
The videos I've been seeing lately I half expected him to bust HARD soon as he tried to mount the rail 🤣
Well this would be helpful before I fell on my back trying to 5050 a rail, ig I'll stick to ledges for now
For a rail like that, just go fast and ollie straight up, no angle, and grind the whole thing. Sounds scary, but it's the easiest way.
no, doing that will cause you to get in a heel or toe side lock in on both front and back trucks, and when that happens you’re very likely to slip off the rail front or back, like he showed in the video while doing heelside.
@@trentrichardson3690 you're overthinking it. :)
I wouldn’t do heel side on the Rail I would cross with the skateboard on the rail
guys call me crazy but feeble grinds are so much easier than 50 - 50's on rails! they lock in so much more firm and are way more reliable!
Man, you're crazy! But in a good way!
Loving your content bro! Would love some advice on how you starting pushing your content in the way you do?
almost slammed my face multiple times doin this trick ima try this tmmr
This is literally the dream
One day it's gotta happen!!
Fucuk ya, just picked up a board for the first time in 12 years, plan to do all the things I couldn’t as a teenager
Fking dislocated my forearm, didn’t know about the cross lock
A bit more speed would help
Good stuff
Tighten your trucks
If only I approached skateboarding this way when I was young.
Can’t Ollie a five stair, oh well let’s try to kick flip it lol.
Inspiring
Love you
Not too hard. Make sure your shoulders are also aligned with the rail helps. 5-0 are harder in my opinion.
inspiring
nice!
do you mastering this trick rn?
So methodical
I’m not much better, but it might be easier with your trucks a bit tighter
This dont break the truck ?
I used to be good at this I don't know how I skated with tight trucks and never criss crossed my trucks
Was thay pole their the hole time
I don’t get 50-50 I got all the basic tricks so I’m gonna try and get all the basic grinds but I don’t get how to Ollie and lock into the ledge
Looks like Santa Clara County

is this the first grind to learn? cause I never tried grinding yet
If you haven't learned to grind at all you want to learn on a curb or a low flat rail, much easier.
