Yeah, I know how ya feel mate. I don't even skate anymore due to a dodgy back. So I probably shouldn't watch these to see how good I could've been with some expert tips. 🤷♂️😂
@@simonManleeeee It's a hell of a lot easier with the new lighter boards with a nose on em. Those old 80's barge boards were like tryin to ollie a friggin brick. 😂
Welp. After being a cruiser boarder just using it to get around the city for a while I eventually decided to give the ole popsicle a chance. Thanks to this man I learned to Ollie on the first day within about 45 minutes to an hour. They're small, a few centimeters off the floor at best. But within the first hour of trying? This man is a born educator.
Dont worry about height in the beginning, just level it out the best you can. And consistency, then you can pop higher natrually over time! (Also try to look at proper form and build good habits)
@@Jaxsonmullis dont worry, carpet boarding doesnt really transition to the feeling of cement, try ollieing in grass! It is a soft landing but you start to understand the feeling of popping the board up. Focus on trying to get the tail to hit the ground, but after you foot loses contact with the tail. It should be like snapping your finger :)
I'm 36 and same here, except about 10yrs ago i completely stopped after my board was stolen out of my car and three of my closest coms passed, but I got a new board yesterday and I'm kinda crying over here so happy there's so much fun helpful content to keep me reaching goals I forgot I had so buried ❤🥲🔥
I've been practicing ollies on and off for just about a whole year now, but these videos are what finally got it to click, today was my second skating session since watching these ollie tutorials and I can get the board a whole foot off the ground consistently, I've never felt such a rush before :)
This drill also helped me learn my Nollies faster!! Love these tips! I like the drill where you ollie and land on the nose as well. That is really helping me learn to "float" and "bone" my ollies!
I’ve been learning to skateboard for the past three months and your videos have helped me become more confident with learning new techniques! Thank you 😊
I literally just got back from longboard trip in which i did nothing but manny pops, manuals, hippy jumps, and i found a clear piece of low-no traffick sidewalk i could draw an outline of my feet so i can practice landing right where i jumped. Thank you for giving the world a much less difficult time with this insanely radical sport~ you're an inspiration and a saint for what you do for this community
Hands down the BEST Skating tutorials ive ever seen and i remember watching them back in 2008 etc…… literally never seen such a clear articulation of a complex thing so simply demonstrated.
This is an amazing video find because the ending part of this is how I just taught someone to ollie 3 times in a row. I just say that if you keep a constant pressure in the back foot loaded up, all you have to do is pick your front leg up as high as you can really fast and then follow it with the back. Physics says tail go down, nose go up, board goes up, it's really that simple!
I literally just saw this video this morning, I practiced doing this while moving, I finally landed my first moving Ollie after 10minutes (yes it was a tiny Ollie, but I did it!)
Dude i feel like Neo when he started to see the code in the Matrix. I did the hippie jumps for less than 5 minutes and now my ollies are higher and cleaner than ever. Best part is that i feel like im using half the energy for twice the gain.
I wish you added this part to your how to ollie tutorial. I mean when you said "as you're leaving the board, lift your leg up". From your How to ollie, I understood it as lift your leg up, THEN hippy jump. So, I wasn't jumping off the ground like you instructed, but I'm currently having the problem of my tail/board not coming up with me.
@@Skateiq i tried it again today and... i still don't get it 😅. What I think I found out today is if I lift my front foot too high and too early, the nose will shoot up but I think it bounces off my front foot back down, so I think that means it's crucial the board gradually follows my front foot up. So it's a timing thing... I think
With how good all of these are. I would definitely look into getting each video set up for different languages. Very few percent of the world speaks English.
I like to have people practice putting the tail down, even try it off the board w one foot til it’s really easy then til you can float over the board but no sliding like you said lift up the front foot before popping it’ll follow the board up and once you can float over it and your at the peak position lift up your back foot/ focus on pulling that knee up and just push your front foot forward and it’ll counterbalance, closed shoulders will prevent unwanted rotation. Sliding is a by product of comfort over time but practicing baby steps can help you figure out what’s missing or wrong
Does this help with commitment. I have a great standing Ollie, but the second I start rolling, I can never commit to putting my back foot down on the board
Why are you asking? U tell me, go try this drill standing still and then rolling forward. And let us know how it felt. It sounds like this is the perfect drill for your issue. (I will guess yes this requires commitment, similar to the ollie.)
Yeah I feel like when ppl talk abt doing Ollies they always stalk about pushing off with ur leg and shit like that but for me it was rly just abt getting the jump
Literally the one thing I needed. Quick question, can you still do this going up a curb? My back truck still hits most of the time. I’ll make it up but very rough.
I know prolly no one is going to read this comment but still, i got a question that someone may answer. I think ive almost mastered the ollie, i can do pretty high, boned out ollies almost every time. When i get to the skatepark, the first 1-10 ollies are absolute trash. That makes me focus in ollies again (instead of more advanced tricks) , even tho ive spent well over a year mastering it. I skate almost every day, but the first ollie is always terrifying, even tho im normally so confident while doing them. I really dont know what im expecting as an answer from this question. Is there maybe someone that had the same problem and has overcome it?
Every skater has a warm-up period at the beginning of each sesh. That being said, I don't think anything with as many variables as an ollie can be mastered in 1 year... Just keep skating, it sounds like you're on the right track.
Do you also push down slightly with your back foot? I feel like I sort of tap the back foot quickly down then up. Also where should your weight be when you ollie? Centered or leaning more on one foot?
yeah, i also stuck at this, i can only really quickly tap my back foot if my head is more on forward foot side, if i try centre, i can make that quick pop
I have had this problem for 25 years. None of my skating is too bad, my ollies though, always turn in the air slightly so i ollie crooked. Any tips on how to stop that.
Thx can you do a video demonstrating how to get higher Ollie's once you have the basic ollie down? Like how to ollie up that 6 set from the beginning of the short
I needed this content like 20 years ago...

Hippy jump and ollie jump are different. For ollies you jump with the front foot first. You can even see it when he actually ollies
