Rod and Kitty. Just wanted to drop a comment to say thank you for all the excellent fishing vids and for the adventures, losing fishing rods, catching whoppers watching Kitty go bonkers over big fish. What great entertainment. Please keep it up. We winter COVID shut-ins need the hope! I am itching now to get back up country and Chironomid fish! You two are the dynamic duo of the fishing world!
I so miss not being out in a boat salmon fishing. Been 10 years for me,Lets face it ,it isn,t cheap chartering a boat. Someday, My favorite way to fish is mooching just you and the fish. Awesome. Thanks for the video Rod.
Sometimes it’s hard to watch these because I’m so jealous!! 😡But what an awesome video! Cute otters screaming reels, big fish and beautiful scenery!! Thanks😍
Thanks Hayden! My storytelling style is constantly evolving. To me it’s hard to tell since I work on the videos on a daily basis, but I guess if you put a video from a year ago with one from today side by side, you can see a pretty big difference between the two. 😅
From the Lower mainland. I just started fishing and discovered your website and the videos. Appreciate all the information you've provided and Love the videos!
HAY ROD & KITTY NICE TRIP... REALLY COOL TO SEE THE OTTERS! THEY'RE PRETTY BIG, I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY WERE SMALLER IN SIZE... GLAD TO SEE YOU BOTH GOT YOUR SALMON... I SENT YOU BOTH A LITTLE WARMER WEATHER. DID YOU GET IT??? 79 - 80 TODAY, WINTERS NOT MUCH HERE. BUT HOPEFULLY, SOON MY WIFE AND I WILL BE HEADING TO THE CABIN FULL TIME WISH US LUCK... STAY COOL GUYS... PEACE...
Rod I have seen you both on the Vedder/Chilliwack many times. Great to see you both doing such a good job. Kitty is a pretty good fisher gal! No way in heck my girls would ever handle a fish! You are pretty lucky to have a girl that will fish with you! Signed, the Teskey Bandit.
@@FishingwithRod If memory serves I believe I have met you, though it may have been when you were with your wife and not Kitty. Just got back from Steelhead fishing there. Got skunked.
That's definitely one of the highlights I look forward to each year in Kyuquot. I've been told that the region has the highest density of sea otters along the West Coast.
Lol no, the last time I was in WA was in August 2001. Hopefully that would change in the near future once borders reopen. Why, was someone who looks remarkably similar to me fishing down there last weekend? 😅
Some great action there! How come you do not use heavy duty spinning or baitcasting (slow jigging especially) reels with this type of fishing? Wouldnt the high gear ratio and smooth drag of say Stellas, Saltigas etc help in hooking and playing these fish? Keep up the great work!
Thanks Dimitrios! Yep we do use spinning setups (light to medium actually) and jig for these fish from time to time. For trolling with the downriggers, you can certainly use a levelwind/baitcasting setup (you'll need the quick freespool option to drop the line down with the cannon ball), but the mooching/single action reel setups are the preferred method for most West Coast anglers. There isn't a particular reason for that, it's just has always been done this way so people enjoy the feel of rhe single action reel while playing the fish. If you were to use a baitcasting reel, it'd probably make the fight a lot easier.
Cool deal Rod catching those big salmon. One critical commentary: the music is hit or miss. I think there are two classes of fishing viewers, those who like music and those who don't. I'm in the class of no music/ preferring the silence and natural sounds of fishing.
I’m an older guy(almost 40), maybe the young people prefer the music so don’t just listen to me hahah. You could do a poll or look in your analytics and see what most of your audience age group are.
I once was using live bait while fishing on my boat. I actually hooked a diving bird! That was the hardest catch and release I ever experienced! When there were seals around my fishing spot, I just moved. I can't imagine hooking a seal!

Thank you Rick! I'm glad that others who have not been able to do it can enjoy the experiences we are bringing back from the sea.
That sound when the fish just makes me have the biggest smile !!! Gorgeous fish!!!

It's a pretty cool place Camille, you have to go there one day. 😄
Very nice video, Kitty & Rod 🎣 . Screaming Reels 🤪😜
Thanks Andy!
That face @6:12,,,,when you realize hey this may be really good..... lol... Nice day on the sea.
That face was more like "I better not screw this up, we have two hours of fishing left!" 😂😂
@@FishingwithRod ohhhh not you Rod, you would never do that right? Hahahaha....
Love the new style of editing and the way you put the video together makes me want to watch more. Keep the good work up:)

Was a great series Rod and Kitty , just wish I could have caught the premier last night . Thanks for a great video adventure as always 👍
Thanks Ernie! We were looking for you to get the party going. Next time! 😜

Wearing the Islander sweatshirt working the Daiwa reel... love it!
Shimano actually. :)
Great video. I love watching this crew work together. Art in motion.
Thank you! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. 😊
Always enjoyed watching you two fishing together. Another great video.
Thank you! More to come. :)
I think those mid-teen to mid-twenty fish fight the hardest. You guys got a nice grocery haul from this trip.
Yeah we're pretty spoiled everytime we are there. I totally agree with that size range, my preference for eating too. 😄
"O Captain! My Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won..."
Thank You, the thrill was palpable. Salmon fishing is my religion here in Central California.
Glad you enjoyed it Doug. Thanks for watching! ☺️
Wow!! That was a huge fish!! Great catch!! That was awesome to watch!!
Yeah they were super fat last summer! Hope to see the same for this year. 😊
Nice fish you two work well together
Thank you Bill. 😃
Then again at 15 min 45 sec. Great work you two!!
Thanks Nick!

The air temperature up here is actually quite tolerable now! 😜 Our daytime high this week is around 10C/50F.

Kitty rarely fishes the Vedder actually. I usually fish it with my wife Nina.

They look pretty cool while they're cruising on their back is an otter

Good job on the video. I trying to learn how to on my channel. Thanks guys

So does that mean I get a chance now? hahahahahahaha that was so funny!!
😅😅😅
Thanks you excellant
Thanks for watching!
Random question?.. were you fishing on the coast in Washington this past Saturday??

Hope to fish with you guys some day :)
That's awesome! You're very welcome and thank you for watching all the videos. 😄
Man I miss salmon,.. been way to long since had one on,.. beautiful fish you two
Thanks Dave! The season is almost here... I think lol.
@@FishingwithRod lets just hope it goes better the last year, somehow ended up with only one sockeye.

Mark, old?? I turned 45 last week. 🤣
Huge fish!
Not too long, but really fat! It was definitely one of the more productive season when it comes to the quality of the fish/biomass.

Wow! What a story! We've only been sealed once and that was two seasons ago.
