Interesting I have not had trouble catching with straight braid to the hook. Wonder if I'd catch even more with some mono leader. I know a good reason for a mono lead is you don't lose a ton of braid when you get the mega snag.
Just found this channel. Great to find a show with hosts who don't look like PC principal from southpark. I admire what this channel is doing, I know racial challenges in vancouver island fishing are intense.
Not sure if you've tried this; if it is a right hand cranking levelwind reel, try putting the rod butt inside under your right armpit and hold the rod foregrip with your left hand. The ergonomics are quite nice.
nice video! That guide is brave to be holding onto the lings lower lip like that. they can cut u up pretty nice if they bite down or thrash there heads
+Fishing with Rod Of course I am, in Chilliwack! Can't wait. Just do me a favour and make the "sun dance" the day before as we'll come by the air. Otherwise it will be a much longer journey by car..:)
Fishing with Rod ok, thank you sir. I like to drift too, just been struggling to get a bite lately. I’ll keep at it. I fish the PWS in Alaska. Beautiful here!
+Daniel Jeff Thanks! For the halibut and lingcod, we were using Shimano Technium series but I also like Shimano Trevala. For the salmon fishing, we use Shimano Technium or Convergence. These are pretty standard mid range rods which most saltwater guides along our coast use.
Thank you again Paul. I hope so too. I do still have a few Kyuquot episodes with her which will be released this winter. We will be taking a long break other than that.
+Lucas Jover Bull trout are mainly targeted in rivers and lakes. Squamish River, Chilliwack River, Skagit River, Pitt River are all excellent systems where bull trout can be caught.
+Lucas Jover It can be. If you head to our website, look under estuary fishing in the articles section, you'll find a series of articles which talk about bull trout fishing in the Fraser River.
@ that’s fair. I’m all for everyone catching fish… just not when I’m paying to catch fish 🤣🤣🤣 but I just bought a new kingfisher so that shouldn’t be an issue lol.
Stop dropping your rod tip when gaining on the fish!!!! ALWAYS keep steady pressure on your salmon WITH ROD TIP UP!....So many fish lost because of that mistake.
Not only great fishing ,but great catching!!!
You got that right!

Awesome episode Rod! I can remember doing this with my Dad as a kid, so much fun, great memories watching this.
+Fraser_River Tackle_Supply Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. :)

Pretty slick little lingcod jig that guide made. Gonna have to try it out.

Definitely a trip of a lifetime! Very interesting and informative. Great work Rod, keep going!
+Valentin Furr Aw man! I thought I was going to be the first to comment. I guess you win...
+Valentin Furr Thanks! Chat with you in a few weeks if you are still coming to the event. :)

+Dennis Healy Thanks!
Great video as usual. Never understood why people leave the clicker on when they fight their fish.
Great video Rod!!!! :p
+Jon Fisher Thanks!
Nice video! Do you think you will ever make it out to Qulicum River fishing resort?
+RB. Guide Service Always open to new options. :)
rod we gotta go fishing sometime
Great video! Do you guys drift a lot more for rockfish or do you anchor???
Curious, do you drift or anchor more??
We usually don't anchor unless we really have to, since it is quite a bit of work.
Fishing with Rod ok, thank you sir. I like to drift too, just been struggling to get a bite lately. I’ll keep at it. I fish the PWS in Alaska. Beautiful here!
i go camping there every year in a place called the artlish near kyuquot
Very nice, lovely area. :)
i caught my first halibut and it was 45lbs then my brothers friend caught a 55 to 60lb halibut
Awesome! What kind of fishing rod are you guys using?
+Daniel Jeff Thanks! For the halibut and lingcod, we were using Shimano Technium series but I also like Shimano Trevala. For the salmon fishing, we use Shimano Technium or Convergence. These are pretty standard mid range rods which most saltwater guides along our coast use.
That wasn't a bullhead that was a Cabezon. Very good eating!
MLGxTSG He said it was a cabezone but was just explaining that it was like a big bullhead
Rod and Kitty, will you be doing any filming in 2021?
Hi Paul, no we will not be. Kitty is not doing filming with me anymore.
@@FishingwithRod I hope you are still together. Take care. God bless. Tight lines.
@@paulcasey9148 Thanks Paul. For the time being we're not really, but we'll see what the future holds.
@@FishingwithRod So sorry to hear Rod. I hope and pray all works out for you both.
Thank you again Paul. I hope so too. I do still have a few Kyuquot episodes with her which will be released this winter. We will be taking a long break other than that.
In Alaska the guides are NOT allowed to keep any fish they catch while working as guide.
Hashem N This isn’t Alaska.
I did not mean it was, just providing information. No insult was intended.
O man ,,that was super..
+NWoutdoorTV Thanks!
You guys should really turn those clickers off 😂
It draws those fish in at 250ft deep, didn’t you know? *click click click*
On a fly rod? Where was that Canada?
It’s not a fly rod. It’s a mooching rod. West Coast of Vancouver Island.
The guide is clearly breaking regulations.
+Mehinder Dub What regulations are being broken?
Keeping salmon from a barbed trebble hook
great vid but plz turn the clicker off
Where would a nice place around Vancouver to go for bull trout off shore?
Nice place be*
+Lucas Jover Bull trout are mainly targeted in rivers and lakes. Squamish River, Chilliwack River, Skagit River, Pitt River are all excellent systems where bull trout can be caught.
+Fishing with Rod Thanks! Would the Fraser be a nice place? Because I live pretty close.
+Lucas Jover It can be. If you head to our website, look under estuary fishing in the articles section, you'll find a series of articles which talk about bull trout fishing in the Fraser River.
+Fishing with Rod Thanks! Great vid by the way as usual
I think your guide should be handing you the rod the second he hooks you. You’re the one paying to fish, not him lol.
This wasn't your typical guided fishing trip of course. We were doing a show and wanted the guide to be catching fish too.
@ that’s fair. I’m all for everyone catching fish… just not when I’m paying to catch fish 🤣🤣🤣 but I just bought a new kingfisher so that shouldn’t be an issue lol.
@@danabarley5898 oh congratulations on the purchase!
