This is just a regular car review of my 1993 Subaru Legacy Turbo Wagon. This TLEG was my daily driver all winter but now it's time to pull the motor and part it out. The motor will (eventually) be going into my 1972 Volkswagen Beetle as part of building Project Bugford.
Stuff I need for production! a.co/iM4PGFF

This is a subaru legacy that I bought specifically to replace the stock 1600cc volkswagen engine in my 1972 bug. This EJ22t will make an excellent motor for that car, but I used the legacy as a daily driver for a while first. The automatic transmission is pretty slushy, the torque converter really eats a lot of the power this engine makes. It is all wheel drive though, so that helps in the snow and mountains when AWD is needed. The leg room isn't great in the front seats, and the windows don't roll down all the way, even in the front, which is strange.
    SCRIPT:
In this episode of Velocity Labs we’re reviewing my 1993 Subaru Legacy Wagon - TURBO edition.
Anyway, while I was doing boy work on the Eclipse, I was driving the Legacy. Commuting in this car was great, it’s incredibly reliable. It needed a stereo though so I popped one in along with a spare subwoofer I had laying around. You gotta have tunes when you’re commuing, especially in an uncomfortable car. With the seat all the way back my legs are still bent in an uncomfortably short position. In fact, if I spend more than 20 minutes driving this car I usually start braking with my left foot because of the fatigue in my right foot caused by the 2 extreme angles of bends in my knee and my ankle to properly operate the pedals. The seat isn’t very comfortable for me either, but I’ll attribute most of that to being almost 30 years old with over 250k miles of somebody else’s ass in it. It’s definitely worn out.
The only reason I bought this car was simply for the motor. This wagon sports a turbo-charged 2.2 L flat 4 engine that makes 160 hp @ 5600 rpm and 181 ft-lbs. @ 2808 rpm. The engine is paired to a 4 speed automatic slushbox. It shifts with all the speed and accuracy of your 90 year old grandmother. Currently the car has 240k miles on it. The car is All Wheel Drive and weighs 3300 pounds, and gets about 16 to 20 miles per gallon. It’s sporting Michelin X-Ice Xi3 tires and they are AMAZING in the snow. Currently it’s 95 degrees in June.
Speaking of the heat, the car runs great in hot weather but the AC doesn’t work. The moonroof works…. occassionally. Sometimes it opens, sometime it does nothing.
Remember the enchanted roof in the Great Hall of the Harry Potter movies? Where the roof would mimic whatever the weather was outside? This car has that exact same feature. When it’s raining OUTSIDE, water comes in the top line of the windshield, through the moonroof and through the window seals and it rains INSIDE as well. It’s brilliant. Same thing when it snows.
Another feature is that the rear windows don’t roll all the way down. the FRONT windows don’t roll all the way down either. The front drivers side window does have an automatic down though. And and automatic up. Speaking of safety, the car sports these awesome automatic seatbelts. Something that I’m very familiar with in my DSM.
The leather wrapped steering wheel is a delight. The leather is great, the stitching feels fantastic. The horn buttons are kind of annoying but they’re common for early 90’s cars with airbags. What I don’t like about the steering wheel, actually, what I can’t stand about the steering wheel, is the buldges on the side. I HATE steering wheel buldges. It feels like the car got steering wheel cancer and two big tumors grew out right where I want to put my hands. This feels great, this feels great, this feels great… But this? CANCER Oh, and check out the cup holders. Except for they completely block the radio.
The cargo space is great however. The seats lay down and the rear hatch is large. In fact, I’ve made this car fetch it’s own instruments of demise. This engine hoist that I got off craigslist fit no problem, along with the engine stand that will becoming this engine’s permanant home for the forseeable future.
The exterior of this car is in decent shape for it’s age. There aren’t any large dents or extreme body damage. The alloy wheels are a handsome fit for the wagon. The paint however, is baked beyond repair. It’s faded, cracked, chipped and in various states of disrepair all over the car. The rear quarter panels are rusting out with no signs of slowing down. And that’s much more body work than I’m willing to do to save this chassis. Chassey.

Not sure how tall this guy is, but I'm 6'6, daily drive a 93 legacy wagon and have encountered zero seat or leg position issues ?

I'm 6'2" 210. My 97 L is fine. Maybe he has freakishly long legs. I know one thing, I hope he never took out the motor etc. I love legacy wagons.

They came the states as well, the turbo version was fairly rare though. You can still find them on craigslist fairly often.
