Hey, maryanne!! Please please pleeeeze post some videos of your own. Pretty please! Then the rest of the world can criticize every minuscule thing, and tell you all the parts that are wrong, boring, useless etc. C'mon girl! Man up! Seriously, this video has so much helpful and creative information in it, and YOU decided to complain about having to endure cap tightening??? Again I say, be brave enough to post your own videos, and see how much crap you'd have to deal with.
Oh my God, educate yourself! We don’t need to read your mean comments. Learn to use fast forward, adjust the speed of the video and learn to use manners. Too Karen-ish. . .
You are a genius! I did the math and doing it this way you could buy 1 reinker bottle and create the same amount cost wise in 13 distress ink sprays! That is huge money savings. I love your frugal heart. I'm going to try this with my distress oxides to see if it works too.
I also used my reinkers on baking twine wrapped around a ruler. And made diagonal lines. This way I had coordinating twine in all my colors. For the frugal hackers out there! Happy crafting!
You can also add two drops of the re-inker to a water brush and top it up with water. For those who, like me, love the colors but hate the mess of the sprays (I craft at my computer desk a lot and the sprays just go everywhere)
Like a hundred years ago, before Distress sprays came about, Tim Holtz did a You Tube video on how to make your own sprays with his re-inkers. He did exactly what you did.
Tim Holtz said that it is all in the ink. He loves the walnut brown crystals, as do I, because of how they moved the color around. He was persistent with Ranger, and now we have reaction inks. So, if you have water active inks, you can make your own sprays. I use distilled water and add mica in mine. ❤❤❤
How much mica powder do you add? I already have Distress Mica Sprays so, rather than buying new ones, I'll just refill them as I use them up.... and I do use them up
Thanks for this video, Tiffany. I found it really helpful. I had to chuckle when you added the water from the Distress Sprayer rather than pouring it into the Mini Mister. Totally unrelated to card making, but I have a wood filler powder that you just mix with water to make wood filler. I got it because I don't use wood filler that often on my woodworking or other projects, and even what was in the smallest containers would dry out & become useless before I'd finished it. So when I saw the can of powder, I jumped at it. For a long time, I'd measure out powder - trying to use no more than I'd need so as not to waste - & then dribble water in from the faucet. I always seemed to get too much water, though. I don't know what inspired me, but I finally got the idea to "measure" the water by spraying from a small spray bottle into the powder in my mixing container. Works perfectly! It makes it so much easier to add it gradually, and I don't have to worry about mindlessly turning the faucet handle the wrong way when I want to shut off the water. LOL So you have now proven that the same concept works for mixing DIY distress sprays. Anyway, thanks again for sharing this. Take care, have a wonderful day, & I hope you have a great Mother's Day, too! :)
I did this long ago. Add a little iridescent in some for shimmer. Works great. Thanks for sharing. I also use bottled water not tap as tap contains chemicals and chlorine.
Before they sold the sprays, the protocol was to do just what you did. They started selling it already mixed some time later. They are more convenient because they’re already mixed but are the same thing.
Really interesting, Tiffany. I do wonder about the shelf life though. I have had sprays I made before we had the distress spray stains. Those did go bad with time.
I'm wondering if maybe it was the water? I've been using distilled water to mix up (anything and everything) recently, because my tap water seems to go bad quickly.
I am going to try this because I don't use Distress regular Sprays much. However, I DO use the Distress Mica Sprays all the time so I'm wondering if you've tried adding sone mica powder? I may give that a try.
This was great, Tiffany. Thank you. I loved the concentrated smoosh one, too! I'm thinking of the different colours I could make blending some too! And thanks to the person who suggested the Iridescent 👍great idea too. Hope you all have a great weekend 😊 thanks again 🤗 xx
I have so enjoyed your technique video’s…this is great for me as I have so many refills but not many of the sprays….every once in awhile I will need the odd color of spray…and i WON’T HAVE TO MAKE A RUN TO THE STORE!!! Yeah! Thanks!
Thank you for the demo. Years ago, I saw a UA-camr make distress oxide sprays by adding white pigment ink to a reinker and testing them just like you did. I have not bought reinkers for my distress ink pads and this reminded me I really need to.
I never bought the pads, but just the re-inkers❤, I used them to color in stamps etc. And also somtimes a little spray:) its a great comparison, thank you Tiffany, greets from the Netherlands❤🎉
This is great. I don’t have any reinkers but now I’m thinking I should get them. I’ve added Perfect Pearls to plain water for some shine but now I’ll try adding them to sprays made with reinker. I love your videos. Keep them coming. P.S. I like when they are done live. Screwing on the lids remind me to do it so I don’t make a huge mess. 🙂
No words for how much joy this just brought me! My friend has been acting as a mad scientist with mica powders. This will be one more diy for us to use! Did you try oxides? Just curious. Thank you for sharing.
Wow this surprised me too! I do have a lot of spray stains but I also have all the reinkers, so next time there’s a color I’m missing in stain, I’m going to try the diy instead of ordering. Thanks!
I actually just bought some spray bottles to try this because I only have a few spray stains but lots of re-inkers for my Distress ink cubes. Thanks for doing this Tiffany. I am definitely going to try this.
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve always been jelly of how many sprays a lot of you creators have, but I don’t have the room or money for all of them. So it is nice to know I can do the same things with my reinkers. Such beautiful backgrounds you made with those. Thank you!😊
I’m not good with sprays! I’m actually terrible with colors and always end up with mud!! This is brilliant though!! Can’t you also use the reinker like watercolor?
I’ve used my distress inks as watercolours for years, I smoosh them on my glass mat and spritz with water, then paint as usual…reinkers are intense so one drop will go a long way ( and might be overkill)
Thanks for doing this Tiffany. After watching Tim for the last 20 years, I too was under the understanding that using reinkers diluted with water would not give the same magical wicking effects. I think from now on I’m going to finish completing my reinkers collection before buying any more sprays. I’m pretty sure I have about 70% of both, just not the colors I use infrequently.
Some of these comments have me second guessing what I am almost positive I heard straight from Tim. 😂 The more and more I think about it, it makes sense that the reinkers react the same as the sprays. Thanks for watching! 😊
Oh my god, get on with it! We don't need to see you tightening caps on bottles! Too pokey...

Hi, I am curious- did it work with the oxide reinkers as well?
I also used my reinkers on baking twine wrapped around a ruler. And made diagonal lines. This way I had coordinating twine in all my colors. For the frugal hackers out there! Happy crafting!

Interesting 🤔
Doublet is correct. Tim said 16 drops to a sprayer the size of your distress sprayer not the mister.
Tim Holtz said that it is all in the ink. He loves the walnut brown crystals, as do I, because of how they moved the color around. He was persistent with Ranger, and now we have reaction inks. Thats a great tip:) ❤ 🥰

Great demonstration. Interesting how there is not much difference btw the DIY and the already made spray. Thank you for this tip.
Thanks for demonstrating the premix vs DIY Sprays!

Is that water putty?
@@jeanpolkoski2107 Yep! Durham's Rock Hard Water Putty, to be exact. :)
@@andrealavigne7824 thanks! I had a can years ago. Works fantastic. I need to pick up another :)
@@jeanpolkoski2107 You're most welcome. Yes, it is wonderful stuff! :)

That’s awesome! Great tip about the tap water! Thank you! I pinned your comment so others can see! 😊
I use distilled. Even bottled water contains compounds you don't want in your products.
@@jeanpolkoski2107 This is for sure something I am going to do from now on. Thank you!
Yes, although, bottled water generates plastic, which isn't so good.
Can't wait to give this a try!!! Thanks for testing it out for us!!
Would oxides do the same?
I’ve also been doing this for years. What’s old is new again. Your backgrounds look great!
Before they sold the sprays, the protocol was to do just what you did. They started selling it already mixed some time later. They are more convenient because they’re already mixed but are the same thing.
I'm so glad you did this, because I have several reinkers and love to play with backgrounds! I didn't think this would work. Thanks.

Thanks this was great! Now going to add some misters to my shopping list to have in house. Been trying to get all the reinkers for the pads I have. 😊
Very well done, hmmm, I don’t have all the sprays, but I have a lot of reinkers. Ty ty ty
Tfs Tiffany. Can’t wait to make a few..

Love it! I wouldn't have thought to try to make my own, but I will now, lol!
Absolutely adorable!
Awesome tip. Thanks. Lovely backgrounds💕
Interesting. I was watching a video the other day by a lady who uses food gel colouring for her art journalling. Have you tried that?
Great idea..I have lots of reinkers and need more sprays so I will try this for sure. Thank you!
I've been doing this for years. But thanks for putting a share on yt.
you added water; I wonder what would happen if you used rubbing alcohol?
Thank you for sharing the ideas.
I Got al the reinkers and made the sprays and ink pads for years
Tiffany you are AWESOME! TFS!❤
Wonder how it would work with alcohol instead of water in the mister ?
Thank you Tiffany!😊
Thank you! What a great idea.

Looks pretty good!
Awesome job!
Yayyy can’t wait
This is amazing! I don't have sprays...but...I have reinkers!
Most helpful distress video in ages!!! Awesome job and now I can replace my sprays that have been basically empty for a year or 3! Hahaha 😁😆
Right?? Thanks so much for watching
In fact, you used to get little spray bottles with the reinkers.
😳 wow I had no clue! This is a HUGE money saving advantage for sure!
Excellent!
Don't the sprays have mica in them?
No, not the regular distress spray stains.
❤fantastic,,ty😊

Well this is fab news! :D
Why are they called distressed?
Myth Buster - Tiffany Solorio
They look identical to me. Problem is, distress inks are so juicy that I’ve only bought 2or 3 in 20 years!
That’s so true!!! I rarely if ever reink them.
