  • Have you ever experimented with alcohol inks on poster board? I first saw my friend ‪@marypolancodesigns‬ use it. The results can be truly surprising and stunning. The way the inks spread and blend on the surface creates unique patterns and vibrant colors that are quite different from what you get on traditional synthetic paper. It's a fascinating technique that can yield beautiful and unexpected outcomes, perfect for creating abstract art or enhancing mixed media projects. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend giving it a go-you might be amazed at the artistic possibilities it offers!

Hi Tiffany! You can totally make your own blending solution. It doesn’t have resin in it-it’s glycerin. Recipe: 2 oz rubbing alcohol 3-5 drops of glycerin. I hope this helps! Can’t wait to get that poster board paper from DT! ♥️ that last one is just gorgeous! Before you use it on a project, photocopy it so you can always have extras of your one-of-a-kind art!

Tiffany, you are a delight! I could tell you were initially a little disappointed with the trial, but as things progressed, I could tell you were then getting excited by possibilities. Great teaching moments! I do enjoy your trial-and-error videos. When it comes to crafting, what I SHOULDN'T do is as important as what I SHOULD do and I appreciate your experimentations!

Thank you for posting this video, it is so helpful to see your process. And much more realistic if you don’t get it “right” the first time like you mentioned. You said in the video you don’t consider yourself an expert with alcohol ink but I would argue you are! You are my go to for anything with alcohol ink. You are an expert! Thank you!

Regular paper won't work. It is way to porous. You can do it on the back of photo paper.... synthetic paper, vellum, and acetate, just to name a few. I hope that helps.

Are used to do alcohol inks a few years back. I have hundreds of colors decided to pull it out and try on poster board that I did get from dollar tree. And you’re right you do have to work fast I tried both the blending solution and the alcohol and I didn’t have the little blower thing so I just used a straw and I think it turned out really well. Here is kind of a warning when I first started doing alcohol inks I did it as a relaxation technique and hopefully it would help me sleep so after maybe the first couple of hours I felt really tired and so I laid down and I thought wow, it did help relax me so I could sleep well my kids came over and I let them know and they looked at the blending solution and it has ether in it?…. So every body got a good laugh so for the most part, I just started using alcohol, but was really carefully and only use the blending solution in a well ventilated room.

Some specialty alcohol inks (like metallics, alloys and pearls...maybe others) set better with blending solution than just alcohol. I have found they rub off super easily if I just use alcohol. Hope that helps!

Where can we purchase poster board suitable for using alcohol inks on? Is there something in the description I should watch for? Is it just everyday poster board? I live in Canada and I don’t know if our dollar store here carries this, if someone mentions getting it there.

It should be just every day poster board. It is sort of glossy on one side. Or has a slick surface on one side and then just cardstock on the other side. I hope that helps.
