One of the most relatable climbing films ever... instead of just some pro floating up her send go, it shows all the set backs and struggle, the self-doubt and tears. That's what climbing hard feels like to most of us, often without the send at the end!
The whispered & intense "come on, Anna" through the attempt you didn't send really got me, just willing you through it and totally believing you were going to be able to do it, all while watching you struggling to regain your focus.. it really captured what I felt both as a viewer of your films AND as a climbing buddy; That feeling of completely believing in your friend, KNOWING that they can send, and knowing that sometimes the biggest barrier is their belief in themself? So you try to -will- your belief into them, like you want them to borrow how much you believe in them for a just a little while, to get them through the hard part.
Carlos’s voice behind the camera was actually one of my favorite parts. He was like “oh you can take that out, so sorry I don’t know why I made noise!” And I told him omg no, that’s literally one of my favorite things about this film, it’s the window into the emotions of others rather than just my own, it’s perfect. It’s the perspective I couldn’t give alone. Thank you for your comment!!
@@AnnaHazelnutt , I think it illustrates the feeling all climbers have when we see someone else climbing: we climb with them, we want them to do the move, we try hard with them, we feel their disappointment when they fall, and the joy of sending the route or simply the joy of knowing they gave it their all.
Man I found myself doing the same thing, so it was really fun and intense when I heard his whispers. Great faith and effort and passion from all involved. I believe in you so much Anna ❤ beautiful send!!
Whenever I'm at the climbing gym, people often tell me "man you made look so easy" but they never see the hours by myself, fall after fall after fall on the climbs. You are such an inspiration Anna for me and how I tackle climbs. This video is a beautiful and intense production that I can see all of your hardwork going into. You are amazing.
Yeah I always tell people "you should've seen my first attempt, that wasn't pretty" 😅 (after thanking them for the complement of course). If they are also trying that climb I might let them know my first attempt looked similar, as to encourage them to keep trying
My daughter is just getting into climbing at 8 yrs and you couldn't be a better role model for her. Your message that being AMAZING at what you do comes with such hard work, vulnerability and humility is really very inspiring.
It is truly amazing that you show us your emotions during the process, especially because it shows we don't all deal with it the same way. We always see Sharma, Ondra or Megos curse and yell when they take a whipper, so it's kinda refreshing to see you cry. Is that a weird thing to say? In any case, we all deal with frustration, fear, doubt, hope, etc while we're projecting, even if it's just a 6C boulder in the gym. It helps and inspires that you talk openly about it!
I’ve known for a bit now that my “anger” usually presents itself as crying, and I’m trying to be a bit kinder to myself when I experience such big emotions. Thank you for writing this!!
Incredible production on this! Professional work and masterfully done. So many little parts of the video to mention, like how you put the bolt numbers in the picture for the viewer to have context. Great storytelling and cinematography. I hope you're proud of not only the climb but also the product you created.
@@MrThidious thank you :) feel like I'm getting much better at editing and producing every film project I take on (which is to say, the production team is me, one videographer, and one colorist lol)

I love how you’ve transitioned from making videos to now making films. The quality is top notch, and a step above other UA-cam climbing content for sure. And maaaybe this one brought a tear to my eye 😢. So good.
You've inspired me to head back outdoors and finish my mt. project from last year! You are IT girl. When you're on that wall and you're giving you all, I feel like we're there with you. You have the magic of helping other people see themselves in you, the way you express your honesty and persistence. It's ALWAYS a pleasure running into you climbing, one day maybe it'll be in the wild! Venga venga!
I projected this route on a roadtrip in 2004 and while I didn't send, I still remember the moves very well because the climbing on that route is amazing. Your climbing is so SO smooth!!!
Like literally? What are you holding on to??!! It's a table top! THAT, is a vertical sidewalk!! Extremely impressive. Congrats for sending it!! Incredible!
I never got close to this grade, but spent so many days at Smith watching people work and send this route. Amazing that after 25 years I instantly recognized your favorite move. This is as iconic as a sport route can get. Congratulations!
The first time I watched this video, I was saying "come on Anna" at the same time as the camera man and it took me a second to realize what was happening 😂. Congratulations! It's amazing watching you put your heart and soul (and sometimes blood) into a climb. Your videos are always an inspiration for me.
Absolutely stunning of a film Anna! You showed success, triumph, commitment, perseverance and strength mentally and physically! This takes me back to the days of the Lowell brothers and early climbing UA-cam. Each climb is about the history, the experience, the emotion and the location, as well as a reflection of the journey of the climber. Fantastic work here and looking to follow this example myself more in the future, truly inspirational.
People that don´t climb don´t understand this part of this sport. Climbing it is about pushing you so much that you mostly fail. Great work, congratulations! that was beautiful!
Thank you! Its just what I voted for on your last poll! Going back to smith to get back on this rig in April, and seeing you move on it makes me think something this crazy is possible. Great send, thanks for the vid!
That was a real battle! The blood, sweat, and tears to make this climb happen is aw inspiring. Props on continuing the fight and pushing till the very end. This is only the beginning for you!
So emotional ! I mean... the music in the end... How could we watch you achieve that great challenge without crying ourselves ? Tears and pain are sometimes the price to pay for such accomplishments. You are doing great and guess what ? By being so strong, and so emotional at the same time, you give us the strength to believe in ourselves and try as well. Thanks Anna. And congratulations !
"It turns out I like climbing a whole lot more than I don't like falling." I'm gonna remember this one the next time I get those kinds of questions from non-climbers! And also 8:05 "I know it's meaningful but also, in the grand scheme of things, a bit meaningless." Love this. Again, about people who aren't into climbing. I'll sometimes see jokes online (are they jokes?) where people just don't get the point of climbing up a mountain. Why all that work and danger just to be able to point to a cliff and say "I climbed that!" Yes, I know the climb itself is a bit meaningless. But it's not about getting to the top of the cliff. It's about setting hard goals and pushing myself to achieve them. It's about looking at something that at first glance could so easily be dismissed as impossible, then daring ourselves to look a little closer for the possibilities that lie within. Sure, for those of us watching your videos, that comes in the form of climbing a big rock, but it could just as easily be riding a bicycle 100 miles, buying a house, going back to college at the age of 30, or whatever other big "impossible" goals we may have that scare the crap out of us in that deeply motivating way. All that to say, I really appreciated this video. I've seen you in a few Catalyst Climbing videos, and you always seem so bubbly and just generally stoked about life and climbing, and of course that kind of positive mindset is awesome. This video was the first time I've ever seen the more serious side of you, the side of the self-doubt we all have, and more importantly your perseverance despite that, and I find it incredibly admirable that you share it so openly with the world. Keep up the great work! Not just because you've got a new follower in me, but because you deserve the highest of highs that come after pushing through those low moments.
I love the idea of something being super meaningful to someone, but meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Many of life's challenges are that way, some we choose and others we don't. Loved this video, Anna!
I feel like you might be my favourite videographer in the climbing space right now. Such an inspiring combination of honesty, emotion and attention to detail. Thank you for sharing your journey, and all the best for your future! You are awesome!
congrats on the send! I absolutely relate to 8:07, that climbing goals can be both meaningful yet also in the grand scheme of things pretty meaningless at the same time. especially as an amateur, when pros are sending double digit grades that all sound so fantastical to me, sending something "easy" feels even more meaningless in the grand scheme of life, but at the same time meaningful to me because of the time, energy, dedication, and focus that it takes to push past pain and setback and reach accomplishment and joy. what a silly sport we love!
Another gorgeous film, Anna. You are truly a gifted climber and a gifted film maker and writer. Everything about this film is beautiful: the climbing, your emotions, the cinematography, the writing, the editing. Congratulations. You are such an inspiration.
This is such an incredible video, Anna. I was blessed to have the opportunity to briefly witness you projecting this while my bf and I were on one of our Smith trips this past fall. You are so talented and incredibly humble and kind. I am so stoked for you that you sent it! This video really captures the raw emotion and the beautiful process of projecting. Even though you'd probably use my long-term project as a warm-up 😅, you really capture all of the relatable aspects the process of trying hard and reaching for goals that started out feeling impossible! You are amazing and continue to be a huge inspiration to me. Congrats on your phenomenal send! 🎉
Oh my gosh thank you 🥹 I hope you had a wonderful time at Smith, I love it there so much I feel all warm inside when others share that love for smith too! If we end up being there at the same time again, do say hi :)

Thank you so much for sharing this incredibly emotional journey! You are an amazing climber, a wonderful film maker, and an inspiration to me and my daughters.
Great video, I love the bits with the person behind the camera being like, "Come on Anna", and it's not even loud enough for you to hear, they're just quietly rooting for you, lol. Also my sister saw this, she can get a bit openly emotional like this as well (I keep my emotions bottled up, lol) so she found it helpful to watch this. Finally, congrats on the send!
I respect you so much as a person and an athlete. I'm so moved by seeing what you went through for this, to hear such sincere support from your pals. Thank you for sharing this monumental moment in your life. Incredibly proud of you!

Absolutely awe inspiring Ana!! Been following your content ever since I saw that you climbed at my home gym (Hanger 18/The Factory in Orange, CA)! Thank you for being a climber to aspire towards and keep having FUN😊
So strong!! Congrats on the milestone send. I am also petty and unforgiving of misogyny so it brings me great joy every time a woman sends one of JB "no woman will ever climb 5.14" Tribout's 5.14 routes. >:)
Anna, your perseverance and spirit are inspiring. I get splits in all of my fingers all of the time, especially in our dry Canadian winters. I don't know how healthy it is, but I use crazy glue to seal them up and keep climbing.
@@melkorWTF I waited 6 days for the first one to heal! But that left me with only one week left to get it, and on my first day back the superglue totally ripped my finger again. I gave myself about 3 weeks for this project in total, so my timeline was super short before the season ended. I knew if I wanted to send it in that week, I had to get creative and rework beta without the finger
This looks like one of the most beautiful routes I've ever seen. I loved the video quality, and I loved even more your ability to share the moments of vulnerability and challenge. One of your best videos I think! Huge congrats on the send :)

I actually really appreciate this comment 🥹 I felt kinda embarrassed about how much I wanted this climb. It was this inexplicable drive to just keep going and fight with everything I had, and my emotions ran wild and I felt a bit like a mess. So thank you, for showing me this perspective.
Even to the likes of the the early on climbers such as myself; congrats! You worked so hard for this and nailed it! As most say, "They are all jugs if you beleive"! Keep on slabbin'!
So glad for you! I was afraid till the last min that you fall!!! My dream is to climb 5.11b outdoors consistently. Dreams are of different sizes, but this will make me happy.
Amazing video, and awesome send. Heartbreak slips after the crux on a project are painful but you showed your grit on this one. Colour grading at the 3 minute mark seems a little odd, but wow, what an atmospheric shot. Thanks for sharing, this is a psyche up video.
Amazing! and really enjoyed the idea that climbing can be both meaningful and meaningless at the same time. i think that could be a helpful addition to my projects for this year
I'm probably over a 100 sessions in on my (indoor!) project. I think it actually helps my mindset knowing it's still (a little bit) out of my reach, so there's no sending pressure. As a result, I can just enjoy having perfected the first 70% of the climb and flowing through it like it's a 6a and not a 7b+/c. And then there was the climb where I dropped the last hold about 20 times in a row. That got old :D Amazing job!
Wow that’s so many sessions, I’m inspired!! I’m really looking forward to choosing harder projects, to see how far I can push myself with a longer timeframe!

Thank you so much for sharing this incredibly emotional journey!
You are an amazing climber, a wonderful film maker, and an inspiration to me and my daughters.
Thank you so much!
You brought tears to my eyes!❤🔥 What’s next? Ceuse?
I have a few America projects I wanna go to!! Trying to train hard and push my sport grade this year 😍
Great video, I love the bits with the person behind the camera being like, "Come on Anna", and it's not even loud enough for you to hear, they're just quietly rooting for you, lol.
🥰 Beutiful video Anna,,, love all the emotions in this vid,, Must admit that i shed a tear when you made it to the anchor,,Great Job Anna , your a great inspiration to all the rest of us climbers on the lower levels. Thank you.
Beautiful work, the shots, the color, and the climbing. A work of art.
So happy for you!!! Been anticipating this film since you announced you had sent it!! Loved how you showed your passion, vulnerability, and strength. Congratulations!!!
Yo, Anna! This is dope! Stoked to see you out there crushing. This was a wild full circle moment - inspiring to see!
Absolutely awe inspiring Ana!! Been following your content ever since I saw that you climbed at my home gym (Hanger 18/The Factory in Orange, CA)! Thank you for being a climber to aspire towards and keep having FUN😊
I teared up watching this. I'm so happy for you!
So strong!! Congrats on the milestone send. I am also petty and unforgiving of misogyny so it brings me great joy every time a woman sends one of JB "no woman will ever climb 5.14" Tribout's 5.14 routes. >:)
Ikr what a treat to be on that list of women hehe
This was amazing, watching people grit their teeth, and work their way to their dreams is so cathartic.
Anna, your perseverance and spirit are inspiring.
I get splits in all of my fingers all of the time, especially in our dry Canadian winters.
I don't know how healthy it is, but I use crazy glue to seal them up and keep climbing.
I tried superglue but it only pulled on my finger and split it more! I figured climbing without the finger was my best shot hahaha
@@AnnaHazelnutt Did you feel like waiting for the split to heal was not an option ? (congrats on the send btw)
@@AnnaHazelnutt Doubly impressive then !
Keep chasing those dreams. Congrats. Thanks for sharing your moments.
What a beautiful and raw video. Keep killing it Anna!
So awesome! Congrats Anna! Great film, too.
most of that climb is impossible to do for 99% of people, you are amazing
This looks like one of the most beautiful routes I've ever seen. I loved the video quality, and I loved even more your ability to share the moments of vulnerability and challenge. One of your best videos I think! Huge congrats on the send :)
B e a u t i f u l, Anna. From climbing over filming to editing and music choice, it's been a real pleasure to watch and listen to your thoughts. Thanks ;)
Thank you 💖
Congrats Anna! Such a great video 🎉
Congrats on the send and the really cool film!
Amazing edit as well! Impressive that you did it yourself :)
Thank you 🙏🏽 Couldn't have done it without great footage to pull from! Carlos did an amazing job behind the camera.
I'm grinning like the Cheshire Cat 😁 What a feel good movie Ana. I really enjoyed that and congratulations on an amazing achievement. 👏 😊
Incredible work Anna, you did so well!!
You're amazing and such an inspiration to me and my climbing! I love slabs too and I always watch your videos. I'm learning a lot from you! Keep being unique and amazing as u are! And congrats on this project🎉🎉🎉
❤
it may sound weird but the fact you still cry and get this upset after all these years that whats makes you a pro. anyone can be born with talent but its the want and not giving up thats what makes the talent mean something. love to see you trying something with so much history who knows this may be someone else's first climbing video, nice send.
I actually really appreciate this comment 🥹 I felt kinda embarrassed about how much I wanted this climb. It was this inexplicable drive to just keep going and fight with everything I had, and my emotions ran wild and I felt a bit like a mess. So thank you, for showing me this perspective.
anytime, glad it helped@@AnnaHazelnutt
Absolutely LOVED it, thank you for sharing the full journey of struggles
This was great, I love seeing you try hard on your climbs
What a journey you took us on here 😭 I'm so glad queerfem climbing has your strong fingers to hold it! ✨
🥹😂
Awesome work, Anna! You're an inspiration!
Mission accomplished. Congratulations 👏. Amazing journey more to come for ya.
Even to the likes of the the early on climbers such as myself; congrats! You worked so hard for this and nailed it! As most say, "They are all jugs if you beleive"! Keep on slabbin'!
hell yeah i've been looking forward to this one
it is such an amazing video. One of the best!!! Full of emotions. And I love this beta map -> great idea
Beautiful video Anna! The editing and content were amazing, thanks for sharing 😁
Thank you, as always, for sharing your process and your send.
So beautiful, well done Anna!
Good stuff Anna! Inspiring no doubt! Looks like a vision quest.
Thank you for sharing all of that, what a fantastic journey! And beautifully put together, I think i was crying for about half of the video ❤
Great effort Anna, well done!
Such an aesthetic line, great send, great video too. I can't imagine how great clipping the chains must have felt on that one.
Soooo good 😂
So glad for you! I was afraid till the last min that you fall!!! My dream is to climb 5.11b outdoors consistently. Dreams are of different sizes, but this will make me happy.
Dang why is this getting me emotional. Well done
Amazing video, and awesome send. Heartbreak slips after the crux on a project are painful but you showed your grit on this one. Colour grading at the 3 minute mark seems a little odd, but wow, what an atmospheric shot. Thanks for sharing, this is a psyche up video.
That was truly amazingly awesome Anna.. Congrats...Proper sending it😊🤘🤘
This was incredibly beautiful and to bolt is now also on my dream list
Amazing! and really enjoyed the idea that climbing can be both meaningful and meaningless at the same time. i think that could be a helpful addition to my projects for this year
Wow congrats Anna! Your emotional send got me choked up as well!
That got old :D
Amazing job!
Wow that’s so many sessions, I’m inspired!! I’m really looking forward to choosing harder projects, to see how far I can push myself with a longer timeframe!
Beautifully done Anna! great send and great video. Cheers
So awesome! Wonderful to watch 😁
