I always hesitate to say a musician in any discipline is "the best" because it's so subjective, and it's not really a contest. That said, I cannot think of another drummer who approaches the technical proficiency (monumental understatement) and creativity in sonic choices and polyrhythms. Not only that, the conditioning and stamina required to do that for 30 minutes?! We're talking elite athlete level. I personally find watching this inspiring, even if it is unattainable for me personally. Forget my first sentence, Thomas Lang is the best drummer I've ever seen/heard.
Individual artists can absolutely be ranked. He is the best. Please name a drummer that is even close to him. It’s the same with Tory Slusher on guitar. She is the best living guitarist in the world. Hendrix is still the best if you count living, or non living.
I have done a few drum camps with Thomas. He is a brilliant drummer. Something you really can't see in the video is his power. When you stand next to him while he plays, you can see just how powerful and in control he is with all four limbs. It's impressive.

I love when people comment about how TL truly is and there is always one guy, probably a drum teacher in his parent's basement somewhere, that always says that although TL is good, he or she can do it. Hilarious. You may be able to copy his licks, but very very few if anyone else can play them as clean with a real voice. That being said, don't throw your sticks away. Play as long as you enjoy it. There is always someone better. Right now there is a kid phenom getting ready to take TLs playing to the next level.

Well, plain and simply, if Getty and Alex wanted to do some select dates every year to play rush material, this guy would definitely be able to fill in for Neil. Many drummers could, but this guy probably would look at Neil's stuff as easy at this point. Just insanely incredible. The speed and selectivity and utilization is on par with some of the best I've ever seen. Todd S from Styx I'm sure knows and appreciates this guy.
I much prefer Todd's style. Thomas is ridiculously talented, one of the best ever, but all I ever see him do is overplay this novelty stuff. Wrap a band around him for once so I can be inspired. But that's just me I suppose. LoL
It makes me laugh when people say he failed the dream theatre audition , that's what it looked like on the dream theatre video , before he even did the audition he made it clear to his management and dream theatres that he didn't want to join any band as a permanent member , he did it for more exposure to another audiences , he would have been restricted in what he could play if he had joined , I'm not knocking mangini in anyway , I think he's perfect for dream theatre , for me Thomas Lang is way more than an amazing drummer , he's on a level of his own , I love how he uses his feet as hands and has all kinds of pedals hooked up to drums and other percussive instruments , I've been drumming for 34 years , when I started it was heavy metal then thrash metal and death metal that I loved playing , I progressed to a double bass kit , 5 power Tom's and 2 floor Tom's ,I had a regular hi hat clamped to my left bass drum and I also got a remote hi hat that I could position anywhere yet still have the pedal next to my main hi hat, I never thought for one minute about hooking other pedals up to drums etc etc , when I first saw Thomas playing it completely opened my eyes , I started rigging all kinds of things up with a pedal as the beater and it changed my drumming for ever , playing a regular beat with my feet and using my sticks to play percussion along side the main best is an amazing feeling .
Thomas Lang has some crazy independence. I mean next level. My brain can’t even follow it. I just personally don’t care for the sound of DW drums. I did like Peart’s Snake & Arrows kit sound but that’s it. Their snares sound good though.
It’s like Michael Jordan there’s only one and Thomas is only one Hes a gifted being A fucking monsterThose DW drums are like thunder Just incredible!!!!
I'll be honest. For as amazing as Thomas is I can still only watch so much novelty drumming. It just doesn't inspire or move me. I do pop in just to see his amazing licks, fills, chops, independence, etc. but quickly move on to watch drummers I really love like Weckl, Vinnie, Sucherman, etc. Thomas is one of the best of all-time, but really needs to make more of a mark in the musical realm. His skill seems almost wasted with this type of novelty drumming.
@@tommodeski8637 You're right, I can't argue that point which is why I won't. He's unbelievable and certainly one of the greats all-time. That's precisely why I'm here watching and leaving comments to begin with. For as much as his style doesn't inspire me I still have utmost respect for his abilities. I shake my head in awe of the things he's able to do while making them look easy. If he was a smidge better, he'd be exactly 10,000 times better than me. LoL
That's the problem with most drummers and drum solos they suck. They like to show we look at me I could do this without any rhythm or feel just to tap it and hit it and it's so damn boring

This bass drum sound 😍😍😍 it’s wonderful
Thomas Lang has some crazy independence. I mean next level. My brain can’t even follow it. I just personally don’t care for the sound of DW drums. I did like Peart’s Snake & Arrows kit sound but that’s it. Their snares sound good though.
It’s like Michael Jordan there’s only one and Thomas is only one Hes a gifted being A fucking monsterThose DW drums are like thunder Just incredible!!!!
This. There’s Lebron, there was Kobe, Dwayne Wade…but only 1 Michael Jordan. And you’ve compared it perfectly to Thomas here. Well done.
So many favorite moments impossible to list. My God!
Uno de los mejores bateristas del mundo. Muchas gracias por tocar así Thomas Lang. Saludos combativos desde el norte de Morelos México.
👌 Wow....absolutely....wow....Sincerely Impressive in every single way....Thomas Lang is a Masterful drummer!!!!
Master of masters, hugs, Uruguay.
Can't get much better than super master drummer.
Me quedo sin palabras, "Thomas Lang" es asombroso y este sólo de batería de 30 min es una joya.
He is not of this world! Awesome!
Very cool, beyond cool really! The footwork built into those hand routines, absolute mind body control!
23:28 is another insane rhythm holy crap.
Beast and monster!
Epic bro genius at work absolutely amazing had me from start to finish big thumbs up👍
Major props TL !! Like a damn octopus! Thanks for sharing!! Rock on \m/ \m/
It's like almost scary how sensational this Master Mind is.
Томас - это невероятное погружение в глубину мелодичного ритма. Симфония! И отдельная симфония - ваш навык координации!
I couldn’t have put it better myself ... I feel the same !!!
You cant argue the educational value, whats unique about him is he does stickings and patterns ive never seen anybody do before, thats rare.
LoL
It's not just about speed, I can listen to about 30 seconds.
That's the problem with most drummers and drum solos they suck. They like to show we look at me I could do this without any rhythm or feel just to tap it and hit it and it's so damn boring
I love the smile from that kick ass snare swap!!
Killer snare sound!! And of course nice performance, as always
Thomas Lang is Thomas Lang Definitely 👍🎼🥁🎼👍!!!
Love and respect to all us drummer's.
So clean on the hi hat it almost sounds like a machine. Next level talent
such a clean linear drummer..ludicrous independence... kit sounds fucking great too. legend
All those drums and cymbals to get all that sound, now watch Buddy Rich and see how great with just a few drums and cymbals.
Only one word....geil !!
