A bunch of us here have been or are drummers. THIS is way beyond what most of us ever touched. Just like Manny below this comment, I'm floored. I've never heard anyone integrate hands and feet like this. This is an order of magnitude beyond anything we old guys heard or throught of from ONE man playing in the 1960's and 70's.
I remember watching this festival and then when you came on I forgot about every other performance before you. You’re amazing my man. You’ve inspired me so much on the technical aspect of drumming as a young person I just want to say thank you for the path you forged for my generation. Thank you. I hope one day to follow in your footsteps
All these years later, and he's still delivering PEAK performances like this. Just further proof that Thomas Lang is a Machine and defies physics and logic.
This here is a lives dedication to the drums .. inspiring others to play what's in there soul, reach out and try different timings. Buddy rich and Thomas lang will always be legends along time after we all leave this earth.
To be able to divide your mind like that, and complete all those separate grooves flawlessly at the same time. Thomas is pushing his boundaries even further.

He's getting more musical with his solos. I mean I like the ultra-chops solos for the sheer skill but this is more compositional, which is pretty awesome.
@@capgains Lol. Barker has chops and can groove, but he isn't in the same universe as Lang. Gavin Harrison and Danny Carey are the only other one's I'd even consider.

I am also a big Dave Wekl fan, as well as Virgil Donati, both those guys are off the charts.there was a Paul Gilbert album some years back, I think 'Vibrato" and the drums were unreal so I looked him up - Thomas Lang. @@silmarils94 yeah i kinda agree. im not a drum solo connoisseur by any means but i have enjoyed solos by buddy rich, dylan elise, mike mangini and dave weckl. none of them get into the insanely technical just for the sake of being insanely technical territory.
Amazing! I always wonder what the old-school masters (Buddy Rich, etc.) would think if they saw and heard a drummer like this in 1965. I can only assume they would be as blown away as the rest of us! Who IS this man? Especially the footwork. Of course, double-bass drums have been around forever, but Thomas takes playing percussion with his feet to a whole new level. Ridiculous control and blinding speed. Yup, I think the greatest drummers of their day would be gobsmacked.
From my love of rock turned into a love of heavy metal due to slipknot, which led me to a decent teacher who recommended practicing jaZZ, a clinic with Jim Chapin then Dom Famularo turned me on to drummers like Gadd, Weckl, Vinnie and then I bought Mr Langs Dvd way back in....2004? Something like that. And he's gotten better lol such an incredible talent. I am beyond humbled by skill like this
Being a drummer for the past 42 years ... I must say that Mr. Lang has what it takes for any good drummer to study over his technicality and learn more ... I usually study his technical " moves " as well as Dave Grohl's ... great job Mr. Lang !
The only other guy I know who has anywhere near this independency is Mangini. I saw Him on tour with Vai and in the middle of the solo he was playing counter tempos. He was maintaining two separate tempos that had no relation. It was the weirdest thing to hear. Which ever bit you focussed on was in time but completely out of time with the counterpart. Most of the audience didn't realise and started booing him. But the ones who realised were cheering. Seeing this drum solo is as impressive. Thomas must completely compartmentalise chops and they are played at a subconscious level. It's the only way I can see that it is possible. Like talking and tying your shoelaces but 500 times more complicated.
I've always said that thomas is the best drummer in the world but some people might like other drummer for different musical feels or factors but technically nobody comes to this level of playing the drums

I wouldn't go that far. You(or maybe I!) can't hear a tune and he uses no dynamics whatsoever. Those are important elements.

Dynamics is a legitimate musical term meaning different and varying volume levels. Very soft to very loud as and anything in between.
Even one of the greatest drummers on UA-cam (El Estepario Siberiano) sees Thomas Lang and gets his face melted. Thomas Lang, you're a legend.
He has got to be one of the best in the world if not the best. Complete independence of all four limbs and insane speed and accuracy.
