This video spoke to my spirit. I started my HR career as a Labor and Employee Relations Coordinator. It was a huge learning curve for me. I definitely wish I was more experienced going into that role. Although I’m still pretty green in my career, I was able to touch almost every part of HR in my ER role. Still one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Sometimes we learn most from difficult situations. It’s def a 50/50 chance of hating or loving it. Thanks so much for commenting! 💜💜
We need more leaders to train us at the same time. One thing i dont like about HR is that it requires experience but corporation don't want to hire new grads
As someone who’s been in HR / ER for 14 years, every single professional starting their career should watch this video. You really nailed a lot of behind the scenes points that most will never see or hear in interviews or on glassdoor/blind/etc.
Nice job. 👌🏻🎉
I felt like I went IN on that video but I wanted to make it clear. Lol Thank you so much for commenting! That means a lot. 💜
The politics in HR is no joke! People don't understand......after 20 years in HR, I'm over it.
What exactly does she mean by the politics being toxic? Does she been biased by favoring one party’s side over the others?
Love your videos, they are such help in my HR career!! I recently graduated with my Bachelors in Business and a minor in HR Management and already landed a great job with an awesome company..your tips and info have helped me a lot!!! ❤
Yaaayyy!!! Congrats!!!!! Gosh I love the sound of that 💜💜💜🥂
I LOVE this video. As a person who is looking to transition into Human Resources, this was solid information. Thank you.
You are so welcome!💜
This was very helpful. I am currently interviewing for a ER Specialist position
Awesome! I'm so happy you found this helpful. Please keep me posted on how the interview went.
I never heard of employee relations until I started an organizing campaign at work. Now I associate them as union busters. I view them as the bad guys as I didn't have a good experience with them.
I could imagine since that’s your only interaction… they do A LOT more than just that
Another AWESOME video!! Wisdom on point!! Love this channel so much and Timeka is the TRUTH!! 💯
💜💜💜💜
Girl I just went from a hr role to outreach role I needed you to talk to me…. You always ❤ speak to me deeper thank you can imagine thank you 🥰

Hi, New subscriber here! I worked in HR years ago but transitioned into Social Work mainly because HR didn’t offer me the security I needed at the time. The company I was with decided to close my warehouse leaving me with two options, relocate or look for a new job. Now I want to transition back to HR. I’m trying to figure out the best HR role for me. Thanks for the great info.
You’re welcome! 💜💜💜
Great information!!,I always say HR relations is not for me lol,but you have such good information. Keep up the great work!.
It’s not for me either lol You’re so welcome! 💜💜
Timeka! You kept it all the way 100. Thank you. ER seems like a job where it’s expected for the Advisor to KEEP IT REAL. Regardless of who likes it. From what I gathered from this video it take a person with a personality that’s straight forward/blunt/ takes no prisoners etc…..am I interpreting this correctly?
Nooo, go easy because it require A LOT of empathy too
I graduated from Cornell University with a Degree in Employee Relations and Investigations School of Industrial Labor Relations and looking for a position where I can use my education in my place of work
Hope this video helped in some way 💜
@@HeyyyHR I've already subscribed to your channel
I love your videos!!! You are my inspiration :)
Love to hear that!!! Thank you for letting me know! 💜💜💜
Question: I’ve been out of the job market for over 17 years and wondering when did the hiring process start including providing offers for positions instead of a simply starting the onboarding position when a candidate is a good fit for the hiring manager.
Oh my, 🤔… it’s been that way since I started corporate 20 years ago. It’s not a requirement in every state (& where is is a requirement it doesn’t have to be in the form of an offer letter, it could be a form called “Terms & Conditions”) so every company doesn’t do it but it’s considered a professional courtesy so that candidates of something tangible to confirm their job offer.
Spot on!! Excellent video :-)
Thank youuu! 💜💜
Hi!! I’m thank you for this video, I was just thinking about pursuing employee relations today. This was helpful, why do you think they are normally the first to get cut?
Mainly because an HR Generalist can do the same tasks as an ER professional as well as anything else in HR. An HR Generalist prob won’t be as detailed as an ER professional, but they can do what’s needed. You can transfer ER responsibilities to many other roles in HR.
@@HeyyyHR oh okay that makes perfect sense thanks!
Thank you for this information. Can we get a video on navigating corporate politics as HR professionals?
You’re so welcome! I don’t see why not 🤔… big topic but very necessary
What are your thoughts on certifications? SHRM and HRCI.

@@HeyyyHR I’m from Florence and I went to SC STATE for undergrad and Liberty for grad. I am from Florence btw… I am familiar with your home town, so I’m surprised you didn’t attend Lincoln. Also, one of my old friends is from that area and she attended Lincoln as well.
