So you know me, I like to make lengthy videos because I believe we must first really understand something to truly master it.. also because I get many questions regarding topics so I preffer to pre answer them in the video, think it's more useful :) But there are people who just want a simple, shorter tutorial, with no additional details. Think it would be a good idea to make a normal detailed version of a tutorial, but then a short one without many details and explanations?
I love how thorough you are about each subject. Not all of us are more than just hobbyist. Although we love or orchids. The more info we get the more successful we can be. BTW I kill house plants in a matter of days! But I can raise orchids.... Go figure lol 😂
You’ve never let me down- your YT channel is usually waiting to answer. First ever new flower spike! After 1.5yrs, my Phal got sunburnt on one leaf when treated windows were left open; a middle leaf curled after. It’d been in my windowsill to hopefully induce a flower spike; I let it stay there another week. I ignored to let her heal. The sunburnt leaf yellowed (not a bottom leaf) & when I turned her around to look, a 2” spike was there! (Don’t always have readers on, still.) Thanks! Off to search how to deal with an aerial root that’s got 2 spots it’s threateningly close to breaking. Tried superglue but don’t think it took.
I rescued an orchid that one of the secretaries threw away when relocating to another office, still had the sprouting plug and no roots left, your channel helped me to quickly know a little about these marvelous plants, repotted and with a bit of care it’s rebounded well, I noticed what i was hoping to be new root growth but May be a spike as the location of it, ether way it’s seems happy and I have a new obsession!! Thanks!!
Thank you for this; after many months my keiki is finally growing a flower spike. I was wondering how to control the direction of the spike, your video answered all of my questions. Thank you again from Phoenix, AZ.
I recently purchased what I believe to be a phalaenopsis with 3 spikes. I got it at a discount grocery store for $9. Simultaneously, the company owner was gifted a beautiful phal that sat neglected for a while. I adopted it and proceeded to cross pollinate both plants. So far the flowers have wilted, and the columns/stems have fattened and changed color. I look forward to growing out the crosses.
Danny, I was just thinking last night when I was watering my orchids, which I have 5 grocery store purchases. I really appreciate your videos, after learning from your videos, about changing the medium, watering properly and fertilization i finally got a flower spike about a week ago, one flower spike, but it already have four branches forming at the same time. Wow, I told myself Danny must have a PHD in orchids, ha ha. I enjoy all the videos I have watched already, thank you so must for the bits and pieces of info you throw in discussing any particular topic. Of course people who have grown orchids and voilets may not want to listen to what is common knowledge. I appreciate that you acknowledge that people may do things differently, I like what you say about you get results and that is my goal, to get hood results and have beautiful healthy orchids. You encourage beginners, because people like myself thought growing orchids is very difficult. Your videos are step by step and full of information that has made my orchids more beautiful, healthy and resulted in having so far a flower spike, of a plant that wasn't happy.
Wow what a great video. It’s so detailed and informative that it answered every single question I had about forming flower spikes. Thank you so very much!
It’s that time of year and my orchids are starting to spike. Tying them off early is working just like you showed him the video! in the past, I just tried to manipulate the light and tie them off much later after they were too rigid and that can stress the orchid and caused other problems. Using a little thread earlier and manipulating the light at the same time as working well. Thank you!
I have my first orchid and following all her advice. I’ve repotted it and now it has its first spike. What kind of thread do you use? Any type? Yarn? Appreciate any advice. Thank you.
So informative, thank you. I’ve started working on our neglected office orchids and am trying to bring them back to health. I’m sure they won’t spike this year but when they’re ready, I will be as well 🙂
These are mysterious plants. I have one that has multiple primary spikes with secondary on all, but most only have single flowers, although some baby spikes have multiple buds on. However I saw some worrying signs from the roots and it had terrible root rot! But it looks so healthy!
wow i wasnt expecting the flower spike...but there it was, along with a new leaf too? so i found this just as i got on the computer. i saw the new leaf and thought the flower spike as a new root but was surprised by the growth as i checked back days later. i will train it because it's growing a bit horizontal towards my front window, it's on a leadge in my loft. this is exciting, i hope i do great going to feed it now. but not sure how often i should feed it? if you read this can you give me a tip...but i will look for further video. (i thought it was resting as all the blooms are gone and i trimmed the spike and saw new leaf)
@MissOrchidGirl I love your videos!! You are thorough and I love your explanations. You seem to anticipate questions and give us all the answers. I’m having fun with my first orchid.
Thank you, Dani, for this tutorial. Very very helpful. My mini-phals are blooming beautifully but the weight of all the blossoms has the spikes leaning and drooping. I've used stakes but not in the best way. Now I can! Hooray!
Thank you so much for this video!! I've learned so much from you on Orchid care and I'm happy to say my one mini, that's now a medium Phal Orchid is spiking YAY, lol!!🥰🥰🥰
Hi Danny. Update... I wrote to you a couple weeks ago about my mini noid phal with it being in a window when the temp outside got down to 18 degrees Fahrenheit. The spike blasted all the buds. You said for me to trim the spike down to where it was still healthy in hopes it would branch. Well, I lost the entire spike! It turned brown and had to cut the whole thing. (cry) 😢 Guess I'll have to wait until next year. BTW I bought new cabinets and none of my orchids are on the window sill!
Hi! Can you tell me what bulb you use I the tertial lamp. By the way I love your videos!! I have been able to reboot my phalaenopsis orchids that pretty much did nothing for a couple of years. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. ❤
🥰 Quick question: I broke off a 4-inch tip of a flower spike. After suspending her in fresh spring water for about 2 weeks now, she continues to grow, is firm, green, & developing. Will she grow roots into another plant and, if so, should I put her into media? I love your channel. Since becoming disabled, I have started adopting other people's unwanted Orchids and enjoy watching miracles happens and learning from my mistakes. This year everyone knows what to give me for Christmas.... Anything Orchid! XO
TY for all of your tutorials. Can you suggest where I can buy Phal orchids? The physical stores around here do not know what they are doing. You end up with an expensive sick plant that cost you even more money trying to rescue it. They look great at the store but after several days the buds shrivel, the leaves go from plump to fibrous. Then you take a look at the roots and they're a mess. I've started looking at the roots b4 i buy and all of the orchids are on their deathbeds! Poor little ladies! I have one i was able to save but it was a lot of work. it's healthy now but I want more than just one orchid. She's lonely :( .
I have found that you can avoid tying flower spikes to the stake by using the opposite side of 1 or 2 clips to sort of guide the spike (and not grip or clasp it)
Yes! I loved this! You have inspired me to keep on trying with these plants and I will be patient as much as I can to achieve this effect, next year maybe! Thank you Danny 😊
Hi Danny, thanks a lot for this just in time important message 😘 .These two days I have been thinking how to fix a flower spike to a rod to make it stand straight. Merry Christmas!
Hi Danny, I have a question. I have two Phals in spike right now. A few months ago separeted, but already in spike keiki,(it is super cute :) ) and a big monster Phal. I didn't see the spike for the big one, so it is going wild now. So after the buds are formed, can I turn the orchid away from the window to actually see the flowers? Or will they turn to the light afterwards too? It was worked with a Zygo, and a Paph. maudiae green, but thely have way fewer buds on a single spike than a complex hybrid Phal...
I think I have my first flower spike but not sure? It's May is this normal? It looks to be coming from below the leaves and it's growing straight up? I'm a first time Orchid owner, got it last year on Mothers day, now I'm trying to care for it & grow it and It looks pretty good, I'm surprised I kept it alive all year lol. Love your videos, thank you
I just watched that "Orchids I would ALWAYS repurchase" video. Don't know if you're still looking for the Brassavola cucullata, but if so: I found in the online shop from Claessen Orchids (NL). ^^
Every time I try and put my flower spikrs.onto a stick it breaks even though it's about 5 to 7cms long. Could you please give me trick to getting it not broken?
While staking, I accidentally broke the flower spike🥺. My phil is already starting another one on the top of the stalk but should I fully remove the last bit of the broken spike? All the blooms are gone but there's an inch or so left. Thank you!
Good luck finding them. 586. Don't have time to watch water boil, when it boil the flame goes off. To stake or not to stake. That is the question !!! Whether its nobler, um prettier...

I like the longer videos. :)

BTW I kill house plants in a matter of days! But I can raise orchids.... Go figure lol 😂
You can do a longer detailed version and a short, direct to the point video version
I enjoy the longer more detailed ones but I'd watch it no matter the length.
Personally, I like your longer videos too. They are very detailed, and informative, and they mean so much help to us.
Literally every time I have questions about my orchids you upload a video explaining what I want to know! You're the best!
You’ve never let me down- your YT channel is usually waiting to answer.

All the orchids on that shelf look so healthy. Wow! Nice
Thank you so much! I was looking for a solution for shaping spikes for quite some time and you showed it in a great way!

I really enjoy your longer videos. They are very detailed which I truly like. Keep up the great work!
Very informative. I’m a new orchid fan, and I have my 1st flower spikes forming. Thanks!

are you a botanist that specializes in orchids?because from a beginner who just bought a phalaeonopsis you are a pro.:)
Another very instructive video.
Orchid clips come in different sizes so I use clips to "attach" my plant to a stake.

Hi Danny, thanks a lot for this just in time important message 😘 .These two days I have been thinking how to fix a flower spike to a rod to make it stand straight. Merry Christmas!
This video is very helpful! I love your channel! Thank you! :)
Do you have to pin them up or can you leave them to do what they want
I turn my orchid daily and she is growing straight and true ...
Very informative video.. for how to stake a plant thanks for sharing 😊
Hi! I prematurely cut my orchid stems and realized that they each have blooms starting at their ends. Can I root the stems?
Like your ball mix where can we buy that.? What is this mix called?
Hi Danny, I have a question. I have two Phals in spike right now. A few months ago separeted, but already in spike keiki,(it is super cute :) ) and a big monster Phal. Yes I would like to know. Thank you for the info about being able to turn the zygo and paph after flowers blooming to see.
Can you tell me what bulb you use in the tertial lamp? Thank you!
Can you please help me as my 2 flower spike is to large and they are drooping too much I’m scared it will break.
I think I have my first flower spike but not sure? It's May is this normal? It looks to be coming from below the leaves and it's growing straight up? Danny what is the name of that phal that you just featured that's red and yellow? It's lovely and I would love to add it to my collection. Thx.😊
This was helpful thanks!

I am a new orchid person an have many questions: 1. What is the medium you use and sould I use sphagnum peat moss with it?
She has all her equipment in the description
Love this video.
Just on time !!! Thank you
Does orchid needs regular use of fungicide ?
Please make a video on how to take care of dendrobiums.
Hi, youtube search 'dendrobium care missorchidgirl' and you'll find my tutorials :)
Thanks!
Welcome! thank you! 🧡
Hi is your lamp a grow light/ a UV bulb or is it a typical normal lamp??
Hi, it's not a UV lamp, normal bulbs or plant grow light is what I use, currently only grow lights 😊
@@MissOrchidGirl thank you for the clarification and for everything you have taught me Danny!!
that you❤️
How about a mirror?
Looks like my phalenopsis will only bloom 3flowers
Just realized I have a Phaleonopsis, not a Vanda...and A Dendrobium Nobile....not a Phaleonopsis 😅👍❤🇯🇲
While staking, I accidentally broke the flower spike🥺. My phil is already starting another one on the top of the stalk but should I fully remove the last bit of the broken spike? All the blooms are gone but there's an inch or so left. Thank you!
3:01 My orchid politely disagrees ...
So may be im first today 😋
2nd Due to attending investigation for my stolen orchids😕
Hope you find the thief and recover your orchids!
@@MissOrchidGirl thanks for your support danny🙂
I would say that might be a very dedicated thief.... it's not easy to steal plants. I hope you catch him. 😀
Good luck finding them. 586. Don't have time to watch water boil, when it boil the flame goes off. To stake or not to stake. That is the question !!! Whether its nobler, um prettier...
