Brilliant! Just repotted a 4 y/o phalenopsis. Way overdue. From the moment I tuned into you miss, this plant has been eternally grateful. And I, of course :)
Thank you for all your videos! I received an orchid as a going away gift from my previous workplace, and I needed to learn how to take care of it. I ordered a new, larger orchid pot, orchid media, and a foliar spray. I raise composting worms, so I already had sphagnum moss, which I add to my worm bins for bedding, on-hand. At least I didn't have to shell out extra bucks for that! I know how to keep regular houseplants alive. I have aquariums and composting worms precisely because I love my many houseplants. Aquarium water and vermicompost are great for regular houseplants and keep them thriving. But orchids? Umm....never tried them up to now. The prospect seemed daunting. Thank goodness for your expertise. I guess I have another adventure on which to embark, haha!
Thanks for the info about fertilizing the Orchid, I've had my orchid for at least 3 years and I've never fertilized it. It's doing incredibly well so I never thought to fertilize it. In fact it's already wanting to bloom again even though the last Blossom fell only a couple months ago on another Spike. I think your videos are awesome, thanks again
Hi, I haven't watched your videos for quite a while. It's lovely to see your face! It's helpful to learn about your successes and failures. I'm glad I'm not alone in losing some. Good luck with your move.x
Hi,, I absolutely love your videos on orchids. I’m new to growing them and find your expertise so helpful. Thank you . I recently received a small orchid from my grandson for Mother’s Day. It didn’t look healthy to me. So I decided to take it out of its small pot just to have a look. Lo and behold there were three individual orchids jammed in the small pot…what a gift to me😊. I then proceeded to plant each individual one in its own small pot. I removed all the moss as it didn’t look healthy. Added more moss and bark in layers. Two of them seem to really do well but one isn’t. Any tips would be so appreciated. Thank you
I am so new to orchid growing. I have only had 3 plants and yes one died on me. I. Put one in a water culture to see how that works. Your info is great for us newbies.
Nice show, I'm in Florida and I grow my orchids in the hanging moss that's common down here and they do great,I subscribed to your channel because of the quality of this show, please keep up the good work !! I water them when we get a slow steady rain,I don't like to use tap water on mine
Hello Danny. First of all thanks a lot for all the amazing videos and advice. I would like your opinion about something. I love orchids but I am quite new to this "hobby". So a couple of weeks ago I decided to repot three mini Phalaenopsis I have. I started recently watching your videos and I started watching from the beginning so I hadn't reached the video where you say to not repot them in the Summer. Anyway I did it. My second mistake was that I had bought the wrong bark. When I bought it I didn't think it will be too big for the mini ones and when I found out was a bit too late. So I repotted them anyway. Also the pots I used are transparent plastic ones but they don't have holes. So I was thinking to buy the right bark and make some holes to the pots but that would mean that I'll have to repot them again in really short time. So I don't know what is best for them. Shall I leave them as they are for at least a year and watch how they go, or should I re repot them? Sorry for blabbering so much. Looking forward to your answer. Thank you in advance.
Hi Danni! I've been watching your videos, for atleast 5 yrs and just recently, started getting back, to caring well, for my Orchids! Your videos are the best that I have viewed, professional, clearly presented and very thorough! i live in New Jersey where, we have very cold Winters and although my plant room, has radiators in the room, it is located on the west side of the entrance, to the house! I have installed oil radiator heaters, to make sure, their maintained @ a temperature, of 58°-70° during the winter months. Just wondering, how often, should my Phalaenopis Orchids, be wiped free of dust? I use warm water, with a cotton swab to clean them. I plan to repot in spring, right now, I have three that, are in bloom my burgundy/white gum drop and 2 beautiful white ones! One pink striped, who sprouted a KiKi and im waiting, for her to spike and she always usually does, around December/January so patience is key! Thank you again, for all your help as, I am a serious plant lover of many different tropicals from Orchids, to Adenium's, which are dormant now! Happy holidays to you😊👌
First of all, thank you so much for your very detailed videos and great explanation and information. I'm new grower and the more I learn, the more "paranoid" I get whether I am doing everything right or not, lol! My Phalaenopsis seem to be happy because they show new root growth and now have spikes. Some say to not mist or spray them because water will sit at the bottom of the leaves and that could lead to leaf rot unless the Orchid is mounted in such a way that the water can run down, some say to spray on a regular basis, so it can be confusing. I recently bought several Orchid plugs but some had really bad roots, how do you care/rescue these? I'm starting to think it's better to go to a grower where you can physically see the Orchid plug but this is not always possible. Once again thank you for your videos, they have already helped me a lot!
This is the best way to begin an orchid maintenance weekend, reminding me of how to recognize the probable sources of problems I can fix as I repot...thank you!
I came across your channel during my preparation to take on orchids :-) I have a rather cold northern, dark flat. I'm finding your channel an invaluable source of information. Thank you for sharing. Ps. Kudos for gorgeous shots on a black background .... so gorgeous 🙂
So happy you're back!!! I'm always grateful of your videos. I would really love to watch/learn on the care and repotting of Brassavola nodosa, Dendrobium schuetzei, Maxillaria tenuifolia, and Angraecum leonis (Comoros). Please 🙏🤗💜
Hello Dannie. I've listened to a lot of your care for orchids especially when it pertains to watering. My question is, would boiled water after it cools down hours later, be good for watering orchids?
Thank You for sharing this video! I think I’m finally learning how to care for our orchids. They were moved from the direct east summer sun, to a nice north bright no full sun window. Their leaves are so bright n thick. I’m just worried that I’m not doing something right. Wondering if I should leave them there for the winter early morning lows, 33-35 days/eves 65-70s thick curtains for during dark cold times. I don’t know if they care to be moved?
I've listened to so many of your videos and subscribed. I grow orchids for the first time this year. I have a mini and a large one. Nice leaves, nice roots, but they wont bloooooom! hahaha
Hi Danny, I watch most of your videos and they are very informative. My question, can I put two Phalaenopsis Orchids into one large pot? I have many separate Orchids and I would like to have less pots around. I am waiting for them to bloom, it seems like a long time, but I have patience. I am following your advice on how to take care of these Orchids. Thank You 🍃😀
For best results keep the orchids in their plastic liner pots then set multiple orchids into a larger pot. This way several orchids can be cared for individually.
At 1:51 there are some bugs crawling on the bark. What kind of bugs are those? I have those crawling around the roots and on the moss on one of my orchids. Thanks! PS I love your videos and am hoping to become better at caring for my orchids by watching your channel.
Hello, and happy holidays everyone. I have Phalaenopsis which is growing new leaves after a recent bloom. I noticed that green algae are on the roots. Is this a problem, and if it is what is the best way to remedy the situation? Thanks a keep the videos coming, very helpful.
Very well explained vid, am new to owning an orchid ave had it for 1yr, it was an easter gift last yr it was still blooming right over xmas, am smitten by them now and am now in search of the maintenance of it. Its now getting new branches growing from the 2 exsisting stems am thrilled, it actually appears to be very healthy, i just need to know if it safe at this stage to change and sort the roots or is it best left
Welcome back! Missed hearing your voice on my daily video views. Cannot wait to see how your orchids from the 35 day transport are doing! Hope all is well and you and your birdies are happy and healthy! Good health and happy vibes your way!
I have just started growing orchids. I ordered a dendrobium on line it has fungal infection. How do I treat it. Your web site has been very helpful for me.
Just love the way you explain in such simple way. Where and can I find a good fertiliser for my orchids and what are the components that make a good medium for planting orchids?
Omg Danni my breath is taken!!! 🤩😍 what is the name of the Phalaenopsis on the 3:40 minute. The flowers are amazing, and the leaves as well. I'm in love! Must have it!
I just got my very first phalaenopsis orchid and your videos have been teaching me so much! So thank you for that! But my goodness what is that gorgeous orchid at 18:00?!
Thank you for sharing all of the do nots! I am guilty of leaving the florescent light on in the kitchen and the led light on in my living room. It's an open area. That won't happen again! Thank you!
We don’t get a lot of rain, what do you suggest if we have hard tap water? We have a soft water system but I don’t know if that changes the PH of the water in a good way.
Yes, you’ve been missed!!! Welcome back!!! What are your thoughts about trimming green foliage back so you can see the blooms? My Milt. Hajime Ono #5 had so many long leaves I cut them down lower then the bloom so I can see them better 😍😍😍
Thank you for giving avoid 10 things tips for orchid.,,, you gave Orchid lot of water but I am always getting advice give not to much water,,once in a week give littel bit water,, so I am following this... please let me know....
Can I make my own ventilation pots? I can’t seems to find them anywhere. I live in Scandinavia Thanks for sharing your videos they a very helpful 🙂 Tina 👩🏻🎨 - Denmark 🇩🇰
Hi, I had two orchids that had crown rot. They weren't in their new repotme potting medium for more than a week or two before I realized what was wrong. I removed them. Do you recommend against reusing the medium? Is there a way I could clean it or minimize the contaminants that remained in the medium?
Hi, crown rot is caused by water left in the crown of the orchid, so I would try and make sure to completely remove any water from the crown and the joints of the leaves in the future! Also here is my method of trying to save crown rotted orchids, hope it helps ua-cam.com/video/iCZXr2HgRBM/v-deo.html Good luck!
You show soaking the orchid about 10 minutes, then drain off water. Is this done weekly or monthly? Also is this method preferable than the 3 ice cube watering system weekly?
Welcome back! I had a tiny question. I bought an Iwanagara AB, and it had some roots, not many, but enough to definitely take up water. It is producing 2 new growths (very tiny nubs, no roots yet). The largest PSB is getting a little shriveled, is this normal?
Hello Danny, I am in SA Pretoria, this time of the year we have cold nights about 2 - 5 °C and in the day round 12°C, so I take my Catleas and Oncidiums inside for night. I heat my sitting room for 19.5 ° C constant. In the morning I take them out on my stoep. Is it bad for them to keep changing temperatures like this ??? Maria
I live in Miami. I placed my new phal orchid at the west window. Some air roots dried out and the leaves drooped after a few days. I soaked it and placed it on the north facing window. The leaves are not recovering. The roots in and outside the pot are silvery green. How long before I water again, I’m scared to over water. It’s my first orchid😭 And do I use the ceramic pot or the clear pot?
OMG. I didn't know that you should flush the orchid after fertilizing. I have them (almost) all in self watering pots. So the fertilizer stays in there till the reservoir is empty. 🤤
Starting at 17:49, there is a beautiful orange and purple Orchid. What is it called? Please tell me all about this one. Do you know where I can get one like it?
I have mostly carnivorous plants, which require pure water, so I was already aware of all the minerals in tap water. For some reason, it didn't occur to me that my orchids would also prefer pure water. Stupid mistake corrected now. ;) Thank you! Also, what do you do to help an orchid with bad roots? I received a miniature with a lot of squishy roots, which I noticed when I repotted it into a better medium. The only good roots are aerial ones. :(

Great. I live up north and in the summer the sun can rise before 4 am and set at like 2 am and I'm generally up at night too in a small apartment.
Thanks for the tips. I love how you pronounce water, fertiliser and important 🙂
Could you please make a video on homemade fertiliser and your opinions on it :)
Hi Danny, so happy you are back!! I !I've this series, seems like I always learn something new! 😍
I allow my tap water to sit for a few days in an open container, to allow the chlorine to evaporate before I water my plants.
I came across your channel during my preparation to take on orchids :-) I have a rather cold northern, dark flat. I'm finding your channel an invaluable source of information. Thank you for sharing. Ps. Kudos for gorgeous shots on a black background .... so gorgeous 🙂

Good to have you back 😊 How was your break ?

Sun burned leaves do you leave them or remove them? What causes black spots on the flower?
Liked and subscribed - This is a great video - each situation cogently subscribed and succinctly handled. Very enjoyable
Welcome back! I had a tiny question. I bought an Iwanagara AB, and it had some roots, not many, but enough to definitely take up water. It is producing 2 new growths (very tiny nubs, no roots yet). The largest PSB is getting a little shriveled, is this normal?
orchids they grow and bloom rapidly on the trees and they climbs. thanks for sharing.
Hi dani one of my orchids has crown rot .but the roots look good please tell me what I can do to help her survive please thank you
Thank you! So helpful.😎❤️🙏🏻
Maria
Is that a Phal Bronze Maiden?? It is gorgeous 😱
Beautiful orchids
Thanks Danny.
I live in Miami. I placed my new phal orchid at the west window. Some air roots dried out and the leaves drooped after a few days. I soaked it and placed it on the north facing window. OMG. I didn't know that you should flush the orchid after fertilizing. I have them (almost) all in self watering pots. So the fertilizer stays in there till the reservoir is empty. 🤤
That isn’t a problem as such, don’t worry... but it is a good idea to flush the pot before filling the reservoir again with fertilized water 🌸

Do you have any suggestions for growing a Phalaenopsis orchid on a piece of tree bark or w/o a pot?
I have mostly carnivorous plants, which require pure water, so I was already aware of all the minerals in tap water. For some reason, it didn't occur to me that my orchids would also prefer pure water. Stupid mistake corrected now. ;) Thank you!
