    Magnesium is a critical mineral that is responsible for more than 600 enzyme reactions in the body, yet most people are not getting enough of it. Magnesium is critical for your cells to make energy, for many different chemical pumps to work, to stabilize membranes, and to help muscles relax. Essentially, anything that is tight, irritable, crampy, or stiff-whether it is a body part or even a mood-can be a sign of low levels of magnesium, and magnesium deficiency has even been linked to inflammation in the body and higher CRP levels.
    In today’s episode of a new series I’m calling Know Your Numbers, I dive deep into magnesium. I discuss why millions of people suffer with undetected magnesium deficiency, how conventional medicine misses the mark in measuring magnesium levels, how Functional Medicine treats magnesium deficiency, and much more.
    You can test your magnesium levels with Function Health, a company I co-founded. It has been a lifelong dream for me. I started magnesium glycinate 2 weeks ago because I have had insomnia for 4 yrs. I just developed low high blood pressure after my whole life having low blood pressure. I am taking 300 mg 1 hr before bed. I also live in chronic pain with a cut spinal cord & several herniated discs from a major car accident 25 yrs ago. Yes mark is amazing and his pod casts are amazing I've learned alot watching them. Get some fermented cacoa I watched a video where it releases natural stem cells that stitch the body back together with minimal scarring. I had 2 deep cuts in my finger and thumb it was healing slowly and once I added the cacoa within a week you couldn't see even a scar. While I realize it's been 25 yrs since your injuries but give it a try

      For your chronic pain, please Google Dr. Joe Dispenza. He damaged his spinal cord in a car accident when he was struck head on by a commercial truck, and later told that he would never walk again. Dr. Joe was able to make a full recovery with a very strategic health and healing regimen. I think you will fond his story and his return to superior health inspiring. Wishing you enhanced health!

    Great info here - several years ago I started focusing on Magnesium increases (Sprouted Pumpkin Seeds, Sprouted Hemp Seeds, Bananas, Figs, etc.) and the results were tremendous. The more active you are, the more of this key electrolyte you burn through, and I didn't realize I needed more than the RDA of 400-500mg per day. Now I try to get at least 800mg per day and I've never looked back. No more being tired after a hard day at the gym or on the volleyball court (unless I've simply not gotten enough sleep the night before).
    Now days I can burn 4,000 to 5,000 calories in one day, not even replace all those calories that same day, and still have energy to do whatever I need to the next day while still in a caloric deficit.
    Deficits used to drain me a lot more before I worked on my electrolyte balance (of which, Magnesium was the last one I tweaked and improved).

    I've had quite a good response to taking a Magnesium (with vitB&C) supplement this last few weeks,
    I remember years back when I was eating processed /fake foods, having an 18:32 ok result with Mg for pins & needles in my hands and other things.
    but this time Im sort of shocked at what a week or two has done for my overall wellbeing/symptoms.
    I did think I would have been getting enough of it from my diet,
    but I wonder if I was very much lacking in Mg that all the processes its involved with were ready to go... just not having enough to kick start the regeneration processes into high gear
    getting it over the crest of the wave so to speak and allowing my body /cells to really get working as best they can.
    a perfectly timed video
    must say, I am grateful, cheers

      Sometimes as we age our bodies don't store vitamins. Also what foods we eat together like eating a orange with eggs to absorb the protein from the eggs. People don't realize that certain foods eaten together will better absorb the vitamins from your food. You eat a healthy meal then eat a big sugar desert just sent your vitamins into another level. I'm older and my body doesn't absorb the vitamins from food so I take all natural vitamins. Not the cheap synthetic ones most people take. Look for organic supplements.

      Ask Google your question, specifically about interactions with specific medications and supplements. You will get a lot of info.

How much, what form? You quickly mentioned the various types but without concentrations and didn’t indicate whether powder, pill, capsules are best absorbed. In general, I’m finding that it’s hard to ascertain info without listening to hour plus long podcasts or buying a book. What depletes the body of magnesium?
    The use of chemicals, such as fluoride and chlorine, bind to magnesium, making the water supply low in the mineral, as well. Common substances - such as sugar and caffeine - deplete the body's magnesium levels.

    Okay, I must ask... because I have found now that I am older, in my 50s, that the only thing that helps prevent muscle cramping for me is magnesium. Why on earth do I now need to ingest 200-500mg of magnesium per day to prevent those twitching muscle fibers and cramps? In the larger scheme of genetics and nutrition would our ancient ancestors have had a diet of items in nature that provided a continuos supply of magnesium in such dosages? Why on earth would a person need to take this supplement in such quantity?

    • @AriesGirlTAROT
      @AriesGirlTAROT 27 днів тому

      Our soil is completely depleted. So the plants that we eat as well as the meat that we eat, which eats plants, see where I’m going with this? There’s a deficit in general.

    • @MARTiALYOU
      @MARTiALYOU 27 днів тому

      @@AriesGirlTAROT I can wrap my head around that and also that our western food industry has mis educated the public about nutrition. I do somewhat wonder though how our ancestors may have consumed foods that had 200-400mg of Magnesium or 650-1300mg of calcium each day. Two examples of minerals western folk tend to be deficient in. Or is it more that our gut biome and organs have been damaged so much by the garbage foods (chemicals, etc) each of us unknowingly eat until we get older and learn why we feel terrible every day?

    • @MARTiALYOU
      @MARTiALYOU 27 днів тому

      UPDATE: So, recently I have discovered, with the use of AI research that the real issue with my own Muscle Cramping experiences seems to be related to the Oxalates in my foods. These Oxalates bind to the Magnesium and Calcium minerals already in my body making them unavailable for use by my muscles which equals CRAMPING. This discovery of knowledge has change the game for me as I now know that Calcium is more important to my own resolution than Magnesium. I now take 1300mg of Calcium Citrate each day and Whalla! No Muscle cramping! I am still working on the correct balance of Magnesium and Calcium to eliminate cramping all together, but am finding that I need to consume this everyday or the issue simply returns after eating or intense exercise. I must assume this issue is due to damaged kidneys or some other odd function that got ruined by my younger self who ate lots of sugar and fast foods for 3 1/2 decades.
