If I don't manage to reply to your question I'm not ignoring you or being rude.
With so many videos I'm receiving 100's of messages each day and I'm finding it impossible to find enough time to reply to them all.
I was spending more hours each week answering all the comments than I was making these videos.

Anyone here using this video 7 years later to keep an old outdated phone going. Great video as always! Saved me hundreds of dollars.
8 years now 😅
You're awesome Zack. 7 years later and your video is still very helpful. Some day I'll get a new phone---when I can no longer follow your videos and change out the parts. Thanks
I've never done anything like this before but the video was detailed enough to reassure me that the repair was doable even without experience. I replaced my charging port last night and feel ridiculously proud of myself. Thanks so much for this video and for the tool kit recommendation.
Great video, lacking in self indulgence. To the point, no messing, brevity personified. It is a 4 minute video but it did not take me 4 minutes to complete! As a layperson you cannot rush something like this and you have to set time aside and make sure the kids are out of the way (preferably in school). It took me about 1 hour 25, minutes working methodically, taking my time. THANK YOU!
Took me 3hrs with kids.. well done
Thanks SO much! Finally repaired my daughter's phone. Trying to keep it alive as long as possible. It took about two hours to complete the process as we ran into a few snags (One screw stuck, and had a little trouble reconnecting the speaker cord) but it's all back together and working perfectly. The screw chart was invaluable. I printed it up and placed double sided tape on each section to hold all the parts in place. Thanks!
Brilliant tip right at the beginning to the vid, check inside the charging port for dirt, in my case fluff, cleaned it out and the charger is working first class again.....thanks a lot Jerry
I already repaired my display twice, replaced the battery and now repaired the charging port, all following your videos. Phone working perfect. Thanks man...
Your video was incredibly helpful. Gave me the confidence to undertake the repair. The most difficult connection was the push down antenna lug. I had to reuse the original part with a minor soldering job. Thank you so much!
Never repaired an iPhone before, this was very instructive. I have successfully repaired my phone. Charging happily away. Thank You.
I watched your video on replacing the charging port iPhone 6. I thought to myself “that looks pretty simple”. Then I realized I have a 6s. I figured there wouldn’t be a difference then I found this video lol. Looks a lot more complicated. Thanks for your videos
You need to stop connecting the battery before assembling the screen again! Can quite easily short and blow the backlight, the battery should always be disconnected first and reconnected last.
This is what happened to me
is it possible to change the connector without removing the screen at all?
Vicious Gazza it is possible, but removing the screen will make things much easier because you wont have to worry about holding the screen upright whilst fixing the port itself
if the phone is turned off, the presence of the battery connection should be irrelevant. Although it's never gonna hurt to go through these extra steps for safety!
Yah that’s exactly what I was going to comment! This guy is obviously a noob trying to pass off as an expert 😂 He saw directions on WikiHow & had a HQ Camera for views 🤣 What an idiotic buffoon
This is how all youtube how to videos should be. Very concise and helpful. Thank you
Fantastic, no-wasted-time tutorial! A word of caution to folks: I've had my phone for about three years, and when I disassembled it for the first time (just now), some of the case came off with the part I was removing/replacing. They seemed like shaped gaskets, one for the headphones hold and one for the charging port hole.
I caught the headphones one and smugly returned it to its port... then didn't realize the charging port gasket came out attached to the old part until I had everything back together and running smoothly... lol.
2024 and just used your excellent video. £5 port from eBay, the little cable to pop off was about 6mm too long on the replacement but you get what you pay for, just made it go around an extra corner and back to fit it in. Suggest popping the battery cable out first, before removing the screen cables, as with any device, as some circuitry is still active even when phone is powered down.
2024 and this video helped me repairing my mom's old iPhone 6S charging port. Thanks mate! :D
With the help of your videos I just did my battery, charging port and screen in one fell swoop. Thank you very much. A couple of tips now that I've done it. Definitely test the phone after you turn it on. At first I couldn't charge my phone, the loud speaker didn't work and the front camera didn't work. It's definitely helpful that he tells you where all the connections are and what everything is. After making some more adjustments I got my phone up and running. Good as new.
Hi, can I ask what happened to the data (e.g. photos) on your phone afterwards?
Do you know where the connection is for the charging port? Because I have the same problem, everything works bu it just won’t charge
Yes, I'm still rocking an iPhone 6 and your video was incredibly helpful. Changed the battery and the charging port without any issues at all. Great to find a walkthrough without any BS and very clear, concise instructions. Liked and subscribed. Thank you!
your video was a great help. I goofed up and ordered a port assy for a 6S+and didn't fit. so with your video I was able to retrace my steps and got it all together. no missing screws, no extra screws. Thanks.
It worked, thanks for the PDF!
I would've been screwed without it lol
Amazing video man. Your guide was super helpful, but the tip you gave in the beginning is what makes your videos better than the rest. I was able to save myself the time by just using a toothpick and scrapping off all the lint and now my iPhone charges no problem. Keep up your work man!
I dropped my phone in a paddling pool some time ago, left it to dry, and it seemed OK. Then a few weeks later it just stopped charging.
.
I followed this fella's battery replacement tutorial, and after enjoying the smell of lithium (i.e. I had a fight with the battery), the phone powered on and I managed to retrieve some important things. Then I realised it wouldn't charge. So here I am at this tutorial, and what else can I say, it worked great. Now my 'old' phone is fully functional! The little connector at 3:23 was a b*tch to put back in, though.
Some advice I would like to give:
1) The battery should always be disconnected while work is being carried out; circuits are often interdependent and removing one might affect others in a way that causes them to fail from excessive power (in this case, the screen is a part that draws a lot of the battery, but when you disconnect it, that power isn't being drawn so it's available to other parts of the phone, in theory)
2) It's a good idea to earth yourself to remove any static that you might have, as that will kill delicate electronics!
3) I put putty over the loudspeaker because the screws kept jumping onto it. Similarly, I wiped the screwdriver blade on the speaker magnet to magnetise it and allow it to pick up screws (just don't go jabbing said screwdriver at the electronics)
4) Pushing at the side of the rectangular connectors makes them pop out more easily
5) Try using both cameras, the microphone, and playing sound prior to closing it up (no problems in my case)
.
I find Apple's ethos of _sell them something new, throw the old one away, and if it breaks, throw that away too, making money regardless_ pretty shameful, so it's really great that you show us a more sustainable approach!
*edit: my photos came up as blank, nothing there, and after a mini-panic, I saw that the phone was loading them. this might have been because I had the phone switched off for some time, or because I cleared some memory once I got it working. or perhaps because I just have too many damn photos. again, it's fine in the end*
Thanks for the video! Just did it myself, took about 15 min and worked perfectly! So happy to be able to charge my phone normally again
Hey, can you tell if all the data on the phone remained intact?
@@F0xleks Nothing changed after the repair. Same old phone, same wallpaper, pictures, all data remained intact.
Came here to study port replacement, learnt I had compacted fluff in my port. Sometimes we look beyond the obvious, thanks for the advice.
so i bought the part and the tools. your directions and chart was invaluable. however, even though you said to put the screws on the chart i didn't realize there were different sizes. that could of been a little clearer. But thanks. Very helpful.
Very detailed!!!
I am confident and excited because I'm feeling like I can do this on my own, but with all those steps, I'm just gonna seek a repair shop!!🤷🏽♀️
...do you hear me🤝... video on point tho ... lol
Absolutely outstanding video, albeit didn't complete it in 4 minutes...1 hour more like, but this is the video to watch for this kind of repair. Jerry Rigs videos are top class as I've used him for other items too. Thank you.
Took me three beers and a football game to change this. Excellent instructional video. Thanks!
All I could think was, I have to avoid alcohol if I want to get this done...
i just followed everything you did and my phones charging port now is completely restored for $7 plus the work. Thank you. I recorded a video as well.
One of the best how to videos i've seen. Thanks for helping me keep my 6s running
Thank you very much, this video saved me a fortune!!! My charging port was not working properly, I had checked to see if it had any lint but it did not and I purchased a new cable but no luck. I phoned Apple to see if they had any suggestions and I was told it sounded like my charging port needed to be replaced but due to Covid all of the Apple stores are closed. That brought me here!!! I ordered the part from your link as well as the tool kit however the tool you used to pry the screen off was not included so I had to hold off a couple of days to receive that order, it is called an isesemo tool for those who are interested. I sat down with everything I needed including your fabulous print out for the parts and tape to keep things from rolling away. This turned out to be a genius idea which was my husbands because as it turns out a screw is not a screw. What I mean by that is for example the six screws holding down the charing port descend in size so had I just willy nilly put them on the paper or not taped them down in order I removed them they may have gotten mixed up. I followed your step by step instructions to the tee, what made me do this repair a few times were my microphones not working. Everything else was now functioning perfectly except my microphones. I took it apart two more times doing the same thing which is the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. I decided to sleep on it and look at it today with fresh eyes!!!! Worked like a charm, a note for anyone who may have this issue. The little rubber plastic bit that I took out (on the paper it is called little black niblit, I love that) little did I know there is a similar sized and shaped piece under the microphone on the left that had come out when I disconnected the original charing port. So I had a hollow space between the microphone and body of the phone. Luckily I kept the original with my tools so upon inspection I noticed the piece that remained on the charging port. I had to use the tweezer thing to pry it off as it was stuck. Once I did and set that into place the microphones were now aligned perfectly!!! Hooray, I now have a new phone as I also replaced the battery. I was at 81% on the battery but figured since I was opening it up, why not replace that too!!! Note the screws are super tiny and I highly recommend taping them down to the screw organizer print out provided in the description above!!! Thank you again for this amazing video!!!!
I was able to take 2 broken 6s IPhones to one working...the pdf screw chart is crucial for success..Thank you for your effort it is greatly appreciated.
Jerry, thank for sharing and for the effort of doing the video..I just did mine this morning from 7:30am-10:30am and up and running now! Cost of the charging port is $12.00 from Amazon ..the screw chart is amazing idea!
Before you started your video you mentioned that one might check to make sure that there is not a piece of lint or dust in the port before going through the replacement procedure. After watching your entire video and realizing that it was not a task I wanted to take on, I remembered something about lint. I checked my port and it was compacted with lint. I just wanted to let you know that one piece of information saved me a lot of stress and money. Thanks
Went to Apple to fix my iPhone, and they told me all they could do was replace it for $300. Used the repair kit and followed the instructions, phone is charging again and powered on. :) Thank you so much! I think the screw organizer was the best part ;)
Great video! I decided to fix my 6s to have a backup phone. What I would say though (same as is said in the top rated comment): ALWAYS connect the battery last. Just having your phone switched off is not enough. My screen connector shorted when I was plugging it back in, and now I get to try out your video for replacing an iPhone 6s screen.
5/26/2018 I ordered the parts from the description, printed the screw chart and followed the guild. My phone works again now 👍🏾
how much did it cost in total?
I just ordered a charging port replacement part after just replacing the battery only to find out my phone still doesn’t charges. Hope that works and great tutorial video!!
I can not thank you enough for posting this video! My phone got water damage from a coworker and thanks to the help you gave in this video, I was able to replace the damaged parts at a far reduced price than a new phone! Seriously, thank you so much! I feel like I'm in your debt for your help!
Thank you so much I followed your steps and now my phone is charging perfectly 😀
Nice
These instructions worked great. My iPhone which spent a night outside in a torrential rain storm came back to life with a new battery and charging port!! My only watch out is I struggled to extract the hidden screw. I recommend investing time carefully removing the covering tape. I tried to get to the screw prematurely and stripped the head. Cost me an extra hour to get that screw out (it did not go back 🤔). Note the screws are VERY tiny and of different lengths. Thanks for the tutorial.
This video saved like 300 vacation photos! Thank you!
Following this video worked for me. I watched it about 5 times!! Thank you!! It took me about 50 minutes. But, I have been in my iphone before... battery replacement.
JerryRigEverything You should have disconnected the battery first as it may damage the screen and other parts
I love your Videos , Very Precise , High Quality
I’m writing this on my iPhone 6s because you helped me fix it. THANK YOU!
Helpful video thanks BUT ALWAYS DISCONNECT BATTERY FIRST AND RECONNECT IT LAST - it’s so easy to blow the backlight filter if you reconnect the screen with the battery connected😕
Great video! I was able to repair my charging port. The screw organizer could use improvement. When printed, it's typically going to use a while 8 1/2"x11" sheet of paper, but the image only uses a portion of the whole sheet of paper. The image in the PDF should be made larger to fit the whole page.
More important, as others have noted, on the screw organizer and in the video, users should be warned that the screws are not all the same length and they don't have the same diameter. Users should be told to take each screw as they remove it and place in on the screw organizer by the hole where it was removed. I ended up with a leftover screw because the diameter was too small for the one hole that was left and I was unwilling to removed all of the screws and try and start over.
If you put a screw in a hole that has a larger diameter than the original screw, you may expand the hole and now the original screw can't be put in that hole because you won't be able to get it tightly in place.
Great video! To the point, no needless babbling and very clear instructions. Thank you for taking the time to make this. Much appreciated!
Very helpful! Thanks for the printable "PDF Screw organizer" file. I did help keep the screws organized, I used some tape to attach it to the table I was working on so as not to jiggle it while setting the screws on it.
Well informed video, I definitely do not trust myself to do it but I can appreciate the professionalism here.
I'm still limping along my iPhone 6S ... great video! I was able to salvage the charging port off another old 6S, and it works like a champ now. Thanks!
Great Video! Helped me a lot! My lightning connector failed and replacing the power port fixed the problem. Before sealing the display, I would gently turn on the phone and make sure the speaker, microphone and antenna works. My speaker failed to work on the first try and I had to remove the speakers and repositioned it. I think the wire was preventing the speaker from being seated properly. Everything works now!
Pdf chart was a great help! I did have one screw left over. All screws were accounted for. Have no idea where it came from. Maybe it was always in there.
Great guide! keeping this thing on life support for as as possible with new battery and charging port, back to new!
I really appreciate your step by step instructions without the BS. My charging port was bad so I did it and replaced the battery. Your IPhone 6S Charging Port Screw Chart was especially helpful. Took all of the stress out of remembering where what goes. Hats off to you. Thanks.
Can you send me the link to that chart please? His doesn’t work anymore
Thank you so much man, honestly my phone wasn't charging for days and I ordered a replacement charging port and some tools luckily didn't cost too much.
Moreover, I followed your first instruction which was to clean the port using a toothpick which is what I did. Alas it started charging and I tried the same with my niece's phone which had the same issue and guess what her's started charging just now. You've saved me time thanks a mil.
Didn't even watch your entire video in fact I posed it when you asked us to try cleaning the port and have not resumed the video as my issue is solved.
Top man respect from England UK
Great help, my 6s is back to charging, the screw chart was a huge help
Hi! I have iPhone 6s how will I know what size to buy? 5.5”, 4.7”. Model # a1633 Please help. Thank you!
I have successfully replaced the charging port but after replacment there is no vibration and sound. Any suggestions why is it ?
Thank you for your video and perfect instructions. My wife dunked her phone in the ocean this past weekend and now she’s back up and running for just a couple of bucks. You’re awesome!
Great tutorial all facts no bibble babble
I know this is an Old Video but I would like to say thank you. It saved me £60 from my local shop. Just paid £3 for the tools and £5 for the original part off Ebay. It took me about half an hour to do, but only because of that dam little Gold connector lol I nearly lost my Rag with it.
Thank you for this video but please make note that battery needs to be unplugged because it is causing issues with screen burning out. Other repair video's show unplugging the battery first.
Another charger port replaced by an old retired disabled sight challenged shaky not dexterous man.
Thanks for a great instructional
This helped! Good visuals to go along with the ifixit repair instructions. My phone works again!
Thanks Jerry, I wasn't able to get my phone charging, taking off the charging port helped to clean all the mesh stuck in the inside. It now gives me a charging signal, fingers crossed!
Wow can't believe it! I took me a little long but got the job done! thank you so much.
Thanks Jerryl. watching your video I was able to change the charging port on my Iphone 6s.
Pdf map comes very handy for not loosing the screws. My phone is working again .
It definitely took me more than 4 min but the end result is what matters.
Operation was a success. thanks so much!!
Done! Organize your skrews guys i fully recommend!
Thanks You for the guide!
Yooo this helped alot I fix my own phone and this really got me right
Thank you my man. I change port at 3 in the morning!
I did all of this and accidentally put the same port back in lmao. Somehow I didn’t realize I grabbed the same port I just took out. I had to spend another 40 minutes doing it again but it worked.
Just a Quick note for anyone doing this, after I replaced the charging port and i was charging, i noticed that the battery was warming up the the screen was not turning on, Só I just rebooted the phone (press start button + home at the same time) and started working perfectly! Hope this helps !
Thank you so much!! i thought i had broken the phone. I am so happy it started when I rebooted...! THANKS!
Just followed the guide and my phone works perfectly again! Thank you!
Absolutely Brilliant Video. Took a little time being very careful and intricate work but saved me hundreds of dollars from buying a new phone which is what Apple and all the big corporations want you to do. Thanks
hey just wondering is the charge port and same way for a iphone 5 would love to get it working again so much stuff i would like to get back my music pictures and videos of my daughter when she was very young ty for your time
This saved me AUD$70! Yay!! Thanks. Interesting point in another comment though that the screen should be connected first before the battery. Lucky it didn't blow my backlight filter considering I didn't read that until once I'd followed this video.
The important question is did it actually take you four minutes. ?
What did he repair?
It took me 45 min
@GLORYWINGS [POV] I did this three times with two phones (to swap one charging port with another) within days of each other and had never done it before. The first time took me maybe an hour as I was being very careful. The second time maybe 30 mins and the third time 20 mins. (And it WORKED, by the way!!)
It’s really simple it takes me literally 5 to 6 minutes for a repair like that
Lol
Followed this step by step and got my phone to work again and I can stop using this iPhone 5 thanks man this tutorial was perfection
Print the chart. Then put the screws (they are about 1-2mm in length, much smaller than the chart shows) and the rest of the parts in small cups up on the chart.
Thanks for this, helped make the fix so much easier- only hard part was getting the screws back in- tiny little buggers hard to see
am I glad to find your page. Just ordered all the parts. Hope it works out as easy as your video makes it look !! had a nightmare with Apple Authorised Service Centre. My phone was eligible for a free battery replacement but they would do nothing because it would not power on !! How the hell is it supposed to power on if the battery is dead ?? Anyway, I will be using your site for quite a few repairs.
Screw organizer is a perfect thing to keep while doing this .
Its more tempting to sneeze after seeing the word "Dont Sneeze" in the pdf screw organizer. lol :D
I began this job on Monday and did not move the antenna wire under the connector it made the job a lot harder. I worked for like 10 min everyday then finally I was able to connect the speaker. The ribbon connected is what held me up.
Thanks for the tutorial it took me 1 hour to fix my 6s
When I try to open the screw diagram it says under construction 🚧
I will check back in a few days and see if it’s up and running.
Thanks for the video.
I am disabled and on fixed income so I am going to have to repair it myself as I have to attempt every time something breaks.
I will eventually just not have a phone because if this is like a lot of things my hands and eyes don’t let me to do what I attempt.
Wish me luck!
Changed the charging port AND higher capacity battery with seal with your help, THANKS A MILL MA DUDE!
Very clearly described and very good video! Excellent job!
"make sure its not just a piece of lint" thank you for saying that, i tried cleaning it before watching this then i was like hell no it has to be lint i really went in there and scraped all the gunk out and it works great now!
I must say this is the most informative video tear down i have ever watched. Thanks for the vid appreciate it.
Just want to say that I am so thankful I found this video! Got my phone charging again! Thank you for this content. J Goff
Thanks a lot! Much easier than many other tutorials on the web!
Ay still helping ppl in 2021 :P Great job!
Awesome video. Unfortunately I must have bent my screen since I now have dead pixels and poor touchscreen response.
This is too much damn work
Lazy
@vuhmy engineer survived
Mine had just a fluff inside the connector. Glad it wasnt anything more serious. Thank for the tip right at the start!
Very good video as always, I did the screen, battery, and charger port in one go, the screen and battery are fine but unfortunately the charger port doesn’t work, The antenna wire in my replacement was slightly too long which I’ve seen mentioned in a few comments so I guess this is common, I had to make a small loop in mine just to get it to align with the gold connection at the top, is it likely this is the problem? Any help appreciated!
Great video all working well now just one screw was tight and a bit of a challenge, but solved when i tried a different screwdriver which I get get better leverage on. Need to be super carful with the microphone parts.👍👍👍👍👍
Just discovered your short and sweet videos! Love your format. Just replaced my charging port and totally fixed a "reboots ever two minutes" problem that could not be fixed even with a full reload (could not finish reload!). Should have changed it sooner when it was just a charging problem. At least I had the part and this video on hand and am very thankful for that - $12.99 (Canadian) Fix! Thanks for this video.
This video was great! My phone is charging once again after the swap. Only problem I am having now is that one of the cameras is blacked out. The one that is directed toward me if I was taking a selfie. I didn't have this problem before the charger part swap. Anything I should look at? I went back and disconnected the top half and reconnected all the cables.
thanks, my iphone 6s has now a working charging port!. plus I work in IT so now my experience has increased!.
