  • UNPLUG YOUR BATTERY FIRST! My phone was fine, But safety first. Unplug the battery first thing before unplugging anything else. The battery should be the last thing reconnected as well.

Let me know if you need any specific parts, or if those links stop working!!!
This video will show you the process for replacing an iPhone 6s screen. There are a few differences between the iPhone 6 and 6s screens. The screens are not interchangeable. None of the parts are. There is also a bit of adhesive around the screen of this phone that holds it onto the body. Let me know if you have any questions!

@@JerryRigEverything I tried fixing my phone, but it semi-works. The LCD is a little dim and I can't see anything on the screen, but it makes this DEN-den-dun-dun-den sound when I plug it in to charger. Additionally, it makes that charging port sound (when you insert iPhone into charger it makes a 'houng' sound). So what's wrong with it. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED. Not a phone expert.

Got to give you thanks for a great video. This was my first screen replacement I've ever done. I bought the whole screen assembly with the camera, home button and earpiece ($30), but I did swap my home button over to the new screen for the thumbprint features. Everything went exactly as mentioned in this video without issue. My phone works and looks like a new phone. Even after 6 years, your video continues to help. Big Thanks!!!

Can't thank you enough! Although the assembly that I purchased already had the speaker and camera assemblies included, the rest was unbelievably informative. I was done in around 45 minutes total. Can't thank you enough. I'll definitely be sharing your channel with any friends or family that need to do this sort of DIY work. You saved me $130 compared to taking it into MacHQ for service! That and I learned something new! Thank you!

Part of my post: "I'm guessing that goes around what may be an EMI shield. With the unit I did, that strap appeared to keep that shield can up and as close to the earpiece assembly as possible. If not positioned exactly as it was found, it causes a spot of discoloration near the top of the screen in the finished product."

Always disconnect the battery first once you have the screen and frame separated! You can cause issues if you allow current to pass through the phone when removing the screen ribbons, especially if you make the silly mistake of using a metal tool to pry up the ribbon connectors.

Try just using home+power reset method. I never disconnect the battery, just insure the phone is off and I've never seen this issue and I do quite a lot of iPhones.
I HAVE seen where somebody lifted the screen, took off the plate and then powered it down.. but as soon as they used the slider they removed the flex connectors and it blew the filter. Thing is the phone wasn't actually off in this situation. You can tell because if you look at it from the side, the LCD is black but the backlight is still on. I imagine in this case you can potentially damage the backlight filter.

Yessir, hold the power button and swipe off. Or hold power+home past when the Apple logo appears and it will be off if your digitizer is damaged and touch isn't working. Or just disconnect the battery before the LCD. It's just two screws, a small plate and pop it off with a spudger or fingernail. Should pop off really easy, if it's hard you're probably too far under and about to scratch something off the logic board lol

    • @mmz12
      @mmz12 7 років тому +5

Not so much a chip as it is a microscopic filter. lol And yes if it shorts then this won't work, but I'm not understanding how that's being done unless the phone is still on, or the flex was disconnected moments after turning it off. In that situation the LCD would appear black but the phone actually takes a few seconds after that to turn off and you can tell by looking from the side that the backlight is still on.
I think a lot of people get in over their head and rush it. If unfamiliar with these types of repairs or electronics in general they'll definitely do more damage than they will save money. :( I see it all the time in my shop.

One tip if some do what I did first, make sure the two ribbon cables are behind the camera cable before you try to attach them to the board, mine where in the way of each other until I realised. The lasso on my earpiece was broken and it all works well without it to so don’t worry there either.
Once again, thanks, a good clear tutorial

Great video. Although I had to watch a couple other videos to figure out how to assemble a few parts more rightly, this was my lead video. After I was done with the assemblage, the phone turned on but the screen was black. I simply pressed down the home+power button for a few seconds and that resolved it. Thank you!!!.
To who may find this helpful: prior to fixing my screen, my home/touch id stopped working following a phone drop on a concrete floor which left my screen almost completely shattered. Hence, while detaching the home/touch id from the previous screen to the new screen, I cleaned the front part and edges of the golden coil with 68% alcohol and my home/touch id got back in full performance thereafter. I am not sure what the correlation between a damaged screen and a nonfunctional home/touch id button is, neither do I know if there is a correlation at all, but this is simply what worked for me.

You didn't mention that if you don't disconnect the battery first there is a great possibility of destroying the backlight filter (a component on the motherboard that controls the, guess what, the backlight of the lcd)! Also the little plastic casing for the proximity sensor must be first attached to the sensor itself and then on the new lcd assembly in order for it to work properly. Also by any means don't mess up with your home button otherwise you will be left without touch ID.
P.S.: this "little yellow thing" is the siri microphone

The Phillips screwdrivers that come in the eBay screens are OK if you don't allow them to slip. Once they start slipping, you're screwed. Get some quality hardened steel tipped Phillips screwdrivers and you won't have that problem. Once the cheapo screwdrivers start slipping you can see that soft metal was used to make it and hence, they won't grab the screws. You must hold firm pressure and start slowly when loosening and same in reverse when putting back together. Granted not everyone has the dexterity to do this fine work. If you're not distracted, you should be OK. Just no slipping/gouging allowed, and put a couple white sheets of paper down with a few pieces of scotch tape taped down sticky side up to deposit screws in their order of removal. Any tape will do. Just tape it down at edges with sticky side up. Sketch out metal covers with pen or pencil around the tape if need be to help with that. Biggest thing is having quality tools. Makes a big difference. Also, a couple pairs of tweezers...sharp pointed skinny ones, a single edge razor blade, magnifying glass, flashlight, close up glasses like walmart sells, guitar pick, suction cup. Most of these items come with the eBay screens but it never hurts to have a little more. Lastly...buy and use a good case like an otter box so you don't have to go through this every two months!!!!! Sick and tired of seeing all these people without any protection!!!

Hell just hit up eBay. lol They're all either refurb or aftermarket. None of them are "oem" or "original". If you're paying more than 40 bucks you're getting ripped off. Also, just but the glass/LCD. Don't buy the whole thing with prox sensor/home button/backplate. Just transfer that stuff over unless your earpiece/proximity sensor/home button or front facing camera don't work. Also if you don't swap over your home button YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TOUCH ID AGAIN. Just saying.

    1) I forgot to remove the battery, resulting in a little spark and smoke which is very dangerous 😂
    2) misarranged the three flex cable (the first three jerry disconnect) so when i reassambled them back, it's hard to connect and 'snap them back into place'. plus, the three flex cable is all different, i thought the other two are same size.
    3) removing the adhesive sticker from the big metal plate is needed but when reattaching all together, i have to put an electrical tape again. if not my phone won't start. (maybe it have something to do with electric signal flowing through but idk man)
luckily my motherboard wasn't damaged after the spark. thank you for the video! save me some money by repairing it myself. p/s: when attempting it, you should know all the problems that might arise is caused by YOU and ONLY YOU. it's a both bravest and scariest move to repair your own phone.

Hi people. Unplug the battery before you start disassembling more, becayse there's a good chance that you'll burn a chip which controls the backlight of the screen. Also be careful with the fingerprint ribbon, it tends to break easily.. I found out these two things by myself. Fuck me.

Light heat and a plastic spudger would be the recommended way to remove the home button assembly. I just use a small flathead screwdriver personally but then I don't have time for the other method.
If you left the phone on that could happen pretty easily. It's not so much about disconnecting the battery as it is turning the phone off. Try just resetting with home+power, most times that will correct what appears to be a dead backlight.

mmz12 Actually the phone was turned off, but the battery was still plugged in. And i know that it was the backlight chip, because I pointed the screen with flashlight and i could see the screen being turned on without backlight. Good advices there tho!

And home+power to reset didn't help? I've seen a lot of times where the backlight goes out and you can't see anything (aside from with a flashlight, like you mentioned) but usually it clears up when doing that. If not then that's some terrible luck, sorry it happened to you!

The same here on the battery. Normally, I remove the battery. But watching this I just did exactly what he did and I think I fried something. He should definitely mention to remove battery cable first.

Why didn't you stress the importance of detaching the battery first before removing the screen ribbon cables? I attempted this repair and after completion, the screen wouldn't turn on (phone turned on fine) because as a result of not unplugging the battery before continuing the repair, something shorted and the Backlight filter (ferrite bead) broke. Long story short, we had to ship the phone out for a microsolder repair for $65 (microsoldering.com). Save yourself the money and detach the battery before performing any repairs on this phone including the replacement of a cracked screen. This ifixit article (step 12: www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+6s+Display+Assembly+Replacement/62900) gets it right, not sure why jerryrigeverything doesn't think it's important?
