- This is the process of diagnosing a code PO302 Cylinder #2 Misfire. Cyl #2 spark plug ground electrode broke off inside the cylinder then flies out during start up. The piece could have caused serious engine damage if it did not come flying out the hole @ 5:20 Seconds into the video. Point always do a visual inspection on your wires and spark plug first if you have a misfire code, Stay encouraged put Jesus Christ first God Bless.

First video I’ve ever seen favorite part was the end never ever give up with Jesus Christ in your life ! Keep preaching this message and helping people out brother
This guy is a genius. I saw the piece fly out. Wow. It could have ruined the car. I want a mechanic like this. :) I just pulled out an AC Delco Iridium spark plug, missing almost half of the inner porcelain insulator - one side cracked off, extending pretty far inside. Had to be a pretty big piece. Lots of buildup means it happened long ago, and it was still firing in some way ever since. Replaced that one, just cleaned the rest, removing lots of white crusty buildup, which I think is from bad valve stem guide seals letting oil into the combustion chamber, and the oil residue gets slowly burned in place and crustified. Reminds me of hard water deposits on plumbing. (Runs better now) If anyone knows what these very thick, white, mineral-like deposits on iridium spark plugs are, I'd love to hear back.
The exact same thing just happened to me in my 2011 Chevy Silverado 5.3L. How did you get the porcelain out?
This video was ahead of its time. Same thing happened to my Corolla. Thanks a lot 🙌🏼
Were you able to fish out what you do ?
I came to this video because I dropped a rolled up piece of tape down my spark plug hole, ended up getting it out by putting a vacuum on the hole while cranking the engine for a few seconds, hope this helps if anyone came here in a similar situation
Best video I ever saw. I I don't feel so alone now. (With these car problems)
I had a piece of porcelain in my 2012 expedition and just did this and it worked! Thanks a million man! (Subscribed!)
I had exactly the same thing happen piece of porcelain fell down spa plug hole so I ran it without the spark plug in there and I’ll say it’s out because I’ll be running it ever since and no problems
did any porcelain get blown into the Catalyst?
@@byb-bangforyourbuck2353 , nope, no problems yet! The piece flew out...
Just happened to me yesterday nd now my car makes a knocking noise like rod knock, did yours do that? First time it was really loud but now its quite nd not there as much, goes away after I rev the car though
@@Javi_vr30 , I did not hear a knocking and haven't had any issues since...
Your videos need more viewers man
I'm glad you did show this because I wouldn't know if the vac or air compressor could mess with the piston, maybe it can but you did both so I guess I will too!
you really showed how god works right there ... man i need that blessing right now to save my saab from being totaled im praying here
Just happened to me. I started the car 3 times before i figured out what happened. Im gonna try this tomorrow in hopes i didn't just total my durango.
@@76Drag0n lmk how it goes ! that sucks man i miss my saab so much its just been sitting in the drive way i found grey oil and bits of metal on my magnet in my cylinder... so i guess im at lost ,, gonna try to clean it out with brake cleaner and a magnet and get a new coil pack and pray .... this feels worse then crashing
You're an amazing righteous man.
God bless you for posting this video! Helped me a lot.
Wow. Never seen that happen before, although a borescope would have been of great help!
Very helpful and logical.
Thanks for the video this just happened to me
You da man!! I'm dealing with as we speak. My son's truck had the exact same thing happen.
Did you let it run too?
Great video.
@oldskool funk Thank you for all the great videos. I came across the same thing, when you try to turn on the car without the spark plug and wire on do you disconnect anything else, like injector wire, fuel fuse? Im asking for a 2010 Honda Insight.
Two things, that negative tip either breaks or it corrodes & burns off. Dealership has always done the plug replacements on my car when it was under warranty. Last time they did it, they failed to torque the plugs properly. I had one plug in Cylinder 1eventually back out of the spark plug port from vibration and being insufficiently torqued. Reading the plugs for appearane, I would've never thought it got that hot & lean in there to melt & burn a piece of steel like that, but it will.
I did all these steps, first the magnet and blind fishing to see if the piece of steel was in there still. I got nothing to blow out that was a solid piece of steel. I think these steps have to be done to get any debris out, whether it's the steel or whether it's the corroded and rusted thing that the negative electrode would eventually become. The valves don't open much to get a larger piece out, but smaller particles may go out the exhaust port.
Anyway, my Fiat 500 is running too smooth for anything to be in there. The new plugs need a few miles to settle in, and the car doesn't smoke from excessive oil burning & has plenty of power. So the compression rings. oil control rings & cylinder walls seem to be fine for a car that is past warranty mileage. The valves & head aren't damaged either, or I'd get burning oil smoke as leakage out the exhaust pipe too. I feel like I dodged a catastrophe here. Moral of the story is change the plugs often enough before they fail like this. You shouldn't have to, but I also recommend a periodic plug check & torque if necessary. Those that drive 20-30K miles every year probably just replace the copper core plugs, the platinum & iridium plugs, should still be checked. If the ceramic is showing signs of burn. The spark plug can fail inside the ceramic too. Even the positive electrode can melt & burn.
Yep, mine runs fine too. Car better run better with new plugs, when the new one's are gapped properly & no cylinder damage. But here we are in the Biden-Harris Fuel Crisis of 2021, no gasoline at the pumps, no go. Think they want people to give up their gasoline for electric vehicles, it's the agenda of the D's.
Hello. Thank you for the video. A piece of hard plastic from my broken t slight fell into the engine when I was checking my oil levels. I tried to get it out but the fragment was too slippery. The fragment was an inch maybe an inch and half. Is this is an issue for any part of my engine? Thank you for your help.
Man I wish I could post pictures of what I took out of my cylinder for spark plug tube but I'm looking down there with my flashlight and I see stuff so I'm going to start with the magnet and try to find some kind of way to vacuum it out before I go ahead and put this new ignition coil and spark plug on there but I definitely appreciate you for this video
Literally this just happened to me
Hey Oldskoolfunk, do you still use this auto scanneer or did you upgrade to a newer one? Thanks! God bless
My corsa (UK) 1.0i has just had one of the Bosch twin electrode tip plugs drop into cylinder 2. I tried most all that you already did but not running the engine with that cylinder open.. Gonna try that Tuesday. Cheers.
What happen?
Knowledge is power 💪😎
Lmao crazy shit but it worked man!!! Good damn innovative thinking!
Had this happen to me yesterday. Motorcycle, but same deal.
There is some impact damage to both piston and head. Bore is absolutely fine, as are the rings. No idea where the electrode has gone, out the exhaust I hope.
Wonder will I get away with polishing out the little indent damage ?
i got the same situation right now....gonna try and blow mine out like that.
Success?
Dude this just happened to me!
I have a bitch of a problem. Threads had got cross threaded, so I got the kit to fix it. You bore out hole and then tap and die a new thread, then put an insert in hole, and spark plug makes it tight. My GOOD buddy was torquing with insert and knocked it down into cylinder hole. So even if I could grab it, it is a very tight fit.
How would you know if the piece went into the engine ?
Loud fucking scraping sound, trust me
I just broke a spark plug and I think there's some porcelain in the combustion chamber
Same happend to me, took some compressed air to listen for it, didnt hear anything so i just hoped for the best
@@chistofferweberg6962 it didnt knock super crazy?
What would make a spark plug break like that?
That's the same thing I said Tubejim. I learned about spark plugs breaking in school but never came across one until now. Thank God the piece did not land between the seat and valve.
I'm late to the party but this link has a suggestion: www.ngk-sparkplugs.jp/english/techinfo/troubleshooting/10/index.html
I also theorize that if anti-seize is used then that could allow for over torque situations which would cause the plug to protrude far enough into the cylinder that the piston touches the electrode.
*****
Not possible.
Detonation can cause this, but sometimes it's just a matter of a defective spark plug. I've seen it about five or six times over the years at the auto parts store I work at.

Oh, I only play a mechanic on tv.
I have ceramic in there so a magnet wouldn't help, the compressed air gun and vacuum might help although it is small and loose and will be a pain in the ass
Did you ever solve your problem?
Yeah, borescope would have helped. What if trash is non-magnetic?
Use a bendable wire ( old skool hanger) put a smal bend on the end with grease to fish out tiny debree.
Can you blow it out like that with 3 broken @creator
Check again 2 spark plug I'm sure second spark plug gap broke .. engine block internal damage buddy continue your diagnosis...check compression.
Fuxk that. if it runs it dont matter.
Did this on my type r a ngk plug snapped off only one year old.
The inner porcelain of a NGK plug with 110k on it just snapped in half inside of the cylinder of a 1.5L Honda Fit. Noticed that this plug was not fully tightened by at least 1 full thread, all others were tight. Im wondering if it wasn’t tightened fully from the factory and combustion vibrations may have caused the failure after 10 yrs? . Tomorrow’s fun, removing exhaust to investigate inside exhaust valve chamber, because after multiple cylinder purges and visuals, I still have some “tinging” noise while running and I’m picturing debris hanging out around the exhaust valves?? Will the engine survive? Bent rod? Damaged valves? And then if so, will she pass the next emissions test? I have the eerie feeling that I’m gonna be pulling a head for valve replacement or the engine for a bent rod!!!! This really bites the big one!!!🤨
@@mrobvious5892 I feel your pain. Although i feel more like ive been bent over for the big one. I feel im no where near mechanicaly inclined for head removal or bent rods.
the porcelain broke off into cylinder #4 on a 2.2 L camry engine of mine. how should i try to get it out w/o removing the head off the bloc?
if i start my engine how do i know the porcelain will come out the open spark plug tube and NOT go into the exhaust valve and get stuck in the catalytic converter? if it does get stuck in the cat since it's just the porcelain what's the worst that could happen? it won't melt right since it's porcelain and the cat gets up to 700-900 F, right?
@@byb-bangforyourbuck2353 any luck on this situation ??
the ceramic from my sparkplug broke off and fell in. I'm fucked. I drove my car for a bit after. The nose it made was terrible.
What happened?
@@darryld8200 how’d it go?
never buy Bosch spark plugs this may have been a Bosch not sure but I ran into two different cases of this and it was a Bosch spark plug...just so you guys know b4 you're thinking about buying them.
Vince Paderes Just had same problem, and yep, they were Bosch
Same happened to me today and my plugs were Bosch also
Same, Bosch SHitty spark plug
Yep looking at this video because it has happened to me, and yep it’s a bosh plug
Mine were Bosch 🤦♂️
The same happen to me right now , but my car engine dont want to start 😔
How’d you fix it
