This is the power of preparation. I heard Grischuk admitting he knew this at least up to Bxe7 so he might as well analyse ideas connected to the final checkmating attack. Such a deep prep is invaluable in blitz games, it allows to build a known position without wasting time on the clock. The time is then used to calculate concrete variations precisely while the opponent has already burned the clock and cannot answer with the best moves

Blitz chess really boggles my mind. Nakamura just put up a 3 hour video yesterday, I watched the first two hour and a little, he went 22-0 in that time, it's just unfathomable how far ahead of a normal player the top blitz players are.

Wow h4 is such a nice subtle move.. No minor or major piece threats or forks etc, just a pawn move to threaten an unstoppable mate in one threat. Deadly. Course, I doubt grischuk saw all this when he played e5 and sacked the rook, it was just mvl who got outplayed after that since it was blitz after all, ni way is the rook sac sound, but it doesn't need to be in blitz. Bravo grischuk! First time I seen the queen mate threat into check and then recapture into connected pawn mate..

Hello there. I have recently rediscovered chess as a hobby after 6 years of break. I am just a 1602 scrub, but with some candidate master scalps under my belt. I am looking forward to get better and I have discovered your channel, which i enjoy very much. Because, well, how not to enjoy loads of Tal and Ivanchuk.
    May I suggest a game?
    www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1886465
This is a very recent game between Emil Sutovsky and Fabiano Cuarana, so it's top level. not much ina way of comments on chessgames.com people have probably dismissed it as yet another draw. BUT HOLY COW THIS DRAW IS ABSOLUTELY BONKERS. Pawn sac for opening position, Tal-esque sac, tonnes of tactics. I have NEVER seen so much fire in my beloved Caro-Kann, ever. I am trying to wrap my head around it but, being a scrub, i fail miserably.
Help me Agad-Wan, you are my only hope.

Jory H Yes. Same happened to me and I couldn't recover from a solid black screen until I eventually closed and restarted the entire UA-cam app (Android). Another poster above seems to indicate having experienced a similar (if not identical) phenomenon, which I encountered after watching the first couple minutes of the video without incident. After restarting the app, though, I was able to finish watching without any issues.
Anybody have any ideas as to how this particular video seems capable of inducing a serious UA-cam playback failure that has been independently reproduced by multiple unrelated viewers?
Please note that I am not blaming the uploader or the video itself by any means (enjoyed and appreciated the high quality content!) -- I am simply curious about what is going on.

I don't think the mate pattern is that hard to think of - knight bolted down on f6, one rook already on the eighth rank, and the locked f7-g6-h5 structure all immediately suggest the possibility.
Interesting, though, that none of Grischuk's plan needed to rely on the f4-f5 push which is so typical of the Grand Prix. I tend to think of the Grand Prix as a one-trick pony in structural terms, so it's good to see that it isn't.
