I put mine on a Fractal Ridge bring cooled by a Thermalright AXP120-X67. Never got over 76C in a 10min Cinebench R23 run. Dialed in -30 all core and it's stable with lower temps in gaming. This chip is unbelievable.
After checking if this was an anomaly, it looks like the motherboard somehow has the default Tjmax set to 75 instead of 95. HWiNFO was not reporting throttling so I thought it was that good. The good news is, that's only in synthetic workloads. Gaming is still pulling low temps even in heavy CPU titles. Still good!
I installed my 9800X3D in the original NR200 case with a Noctua NH-U12A and 4080 GPU. Managed a stable negative 35mv undervolt. Temps topped out at 70 degrees in cinebench, scoring a 1% higher score than stock. Average temps while gaming at 4K are in the mid 50s. Fantastic CPU and super quiet build.
@@ryibiru 90mm rear intake. Two 120mm top exhaust. No room for GPU intake fans since the 4080 is quite beefy. I've got both the CPU and GPU undervolted, and the case fans rarely exceed 1300 RPM.
I bought the Terra for aesthetics purposes but really wish I had done a bit more research on it before as the thermals get pretty wild even when gaming. I put a 120 fan above the psu to help with GPU and any additional heat in the case which helped a bit but the CPU chamber still suffers from a lot of heat.
for everybody going for slim ssf for factor - get Ryzen 5 7600X3D if you can. it is the best in power efficiency for games. pulls only 40w in games and beats core ultra 9 285K
I know the deepcool ch160 is on the bigger side in terms of sff, but I'm curious what temps you'd get in that. Either way, thanks for the detailed no nonsense video, really enjoyable
Would you be able to provide the motherboard heat sink heights for some of the AM5 itx boards? I haven't been able to find the dimensions anywhere. Thinking about converting an AXP90 to a 120mm fan to provide some additional cooling to other components.
hi, it would be nice of you do a video of the new ryzen in the fractal, with noctua 77mm anda undervolting and possibilites to run as much as the stock
Great content. I really appreciate your AM5 MITX MBs. You seem to be the only person that considers the real world implications of the Aorus B650I board and it's horrible design.
@ interesting, i was wondering if it were a better option. I am currently about to build in this case and was torn between which cooler to purchase. I wonder if those noctua foam ducts would lessen the turbulence noice?
I might check it out at some point. That being said for the price and chipset positioning, the rear IO looks super basic, I'd expect even X850 I to have more ports than that, so it seems a bit disappointing in that regard.
I wonder why there isnt macro itx mobos who just have 3 usb c, pcie one sata cable and place for cpu. We could make 4l pc of course 4070 probably would be maxxthat fits
Thanks for this review. Issue from 120 mini is its horrible fan noise. From your review, it was very difficult to switch fan by Noctua NFA12x25 due to the unique fan design from 120 mini.
I had some different fan clips from Amazon and an a12x25 clipped right onto my pa120 mini no problem. I can link the fan clips if you want. Almost bought the round a12x25 but I’m glad I didn’t since it wasn’t necessary.
You can switch but you need different clips. Performance wise it's not worth it but the stock fan has a slight buzzing sound sometimes so that would be a reason to change
I would also argue that they could also have been a bit longer to accommodate the largest GPU's possible so you can upgrade your GPU without having to buy a whole new case
To be fair the Nr200 doesn't need that much because it can already fit a thermalright PS120... maybe thinning the back frame where the side braquet go so you can fit a 120mm fan on the left of the cooler for intake!
@@Glufish I have an M2 but if it were like 10mm wider, it might be worth if. If it could fit the PS120SE and fit the 4090 a bit easier, idk. I already run this config and it’s fine so maybe I like it at its current size more, just required a silicone cable for the gpu.
How's the Thermalright AXP90 X47 handling the cooling of the 7800x3d? considering using the Thermalright AXP90 X53 with a noctua fan with a 2.5slot asus prime/proart 4070 super
I've tested this as well, works well considering the size. Although with a 2.5 slot card you could go bigger on the cooler ala IS-67 or AXP-120 x67, both would be a big improvement noise wise due to the larger 120mm fan.
@MachinesMore The bigger 120m. Fan would be quieter than the 92mm fan? Would the 67mm tall cooler leave enough room to not have the turbulent air noise?
@@christenlanger Nope probably just gonna have the usual mouse, keyboard, USB headset, webcam. any external drives would be USB-C. Ill def take the Asrock. How is curve optimizer and PBO using ASRock?
I recently got the Asus B650E-I. Good board. No issues with coil whine, which some early buyers were experiencing. Probably got resolved with later revisions. I preferred the Asus for the better Bios experience and the PCIe5 slot as I plan to get a 5090. For me, it's always good to up-spec a bit on motheboards for future proofing, since I tend to keep a mobo around through several CPU and GPU generations. Not sure where you're seeing a $150 difference. On PCPartPicker I see $105 difference.

my first time eating a whole sff case
How did it taste?
Yo congratz! Though eating mac mini could be easier on your stomach
Would a thermalright axp90-x53 full copper been better to use in the terra?
Raw performance wise, yes. However that would place the fan on the side panel and from my experience leads to loud noise with the Terra side panels.
@ interesting, i was wondering if it were a better option. I am currently about to build in this case and was torn between which cooler to purchase. I wonder if those noctua foam ducts would lessen the turbulence noice?

Thinking of downsizing from NR200, but looking at these case side byside, its not much of a different in space saving. I'll stay with nr200 for now..
To the M2 you mean? Biggest gain there would be the flexibility in build/configuration. Agreed footprint is not a huge difference.
I tip my hat to you M&M, great video
