Drove an LX600 (F-sport) today with the consideration of purchasing, which landed me here. Once again, another stellar (and spot-on) analysis of this vehicle gentlemen, well done. I made the comment to the salesman the secondary screen appeared to be an after thought. Overall though, I really enjoyed the ride quality of it. In a bizarre way, I felt it was a splendid combination of my LC500 and my 10 year old 200 Series Land Cruiser that this would be replacing. It will be an investment, but if history repeats itself, buying a Toyota/Lexus is far less risky. Thanks again for the input/review.
Great review, interesting the point made a few times about some brands making disposable vehicles. A video comparing build quality, price and buyer would be interesting. If you sit in a 2010 Lexus LX everything is tight and more importantly functions as intended even at 200,000 miles and several owners. A 2010 Escalade not only feels really cheap with creaks, rattles etc, but will most certainly be falling apart at 200,000 miles. I feel the same about a 2022 Escalade, although the Lexus is more modest the Escalade will feel dated/cheap in 2032. .
I agree. I drove a 2018 Tahoe last year ( 3 yrs old at that point) with 50K miles and I already started to hear rattles/creaks from the interior. Not a lot, but enough to be dissapointed
I have 120k on my 2011 lx. Test drove several cars last week and once I got back in my LX to drive home I appreciated it so much more. Everything feels so solid, as you said no rattles no squeaks. Just a Japanese tank that starts everytime.
Completely agree we have a 11 lx570 with 118k miles and drives like it did when new. Have rented plenty of American 3 row SUVs when we do road trips and all of them have rattles with 20 to 30k miles. When we are ready for the next one would be a straight drive to the lexus dealer for a new unit.
The lx 600 is higher quality than anything else in its class, but from a luxury car standpoint it’s absolutely garbage. The previous lx570 was much nicer.
On the other hand anything you put in the door pockets rattle on this when new because it's all plastic, in my €25k Skoda they're lined with fabric to stop stuff from rattling around. Lexus might still make (more) reliable (than average) vehicles, but they're lagging way behind in perceived quality and everyday usability especially when compared to their German rivals at the same price point.
As a salesperson for the Lexus brand, reliability has been the strongest selling point in my career. But recently, with the introduction of the NX and LX, I’ve had to foreshadow my clients experience with, “you are buying a brand new, fully redesigned vehicle, therefore, you are agreeing to be a test subject for the next several months while Lexus works out all the kinks found from real world testing. You will probably encounter an issue or some idiosyncrasies within the first year of ownership, but we are here to help you because we want you to have the best ownership experience possible.” Instilling patience in my guests has been the best method to maintain loyalty to the Lexus brand.

I wish the US would receive the more simplistic Land Cruiser. I would love one of those especially with a diesel, and I wouldn’t feel bad about throwing a surf board on the roof.
They didn't sell enough, and the price was getting too close to the Lexus. I think it made sense to just sell the Lexus variant. A base trim model is pretty close to the late Land Cruiser.
Yeah thats what everyone american is saying, but even if Toyota did release it, nobody would buy them. Nobody is going to be paying $65-70k for a SUV with cloth seats and am/fm radio even if it does have a v8 diesel.
Also there was a problem of dealer experience for someone dishing out 80k for a SUV. The Land Cruiser was kind of an oddball in the US. The LX is just better suited for the market.
@@dr.emilschaffhausen4683 they kinda did, but too soon with the FJ Cruiser lol. They could just import the 71 Series to the US that comes with the 4.0 V6. But I guess they dont want to hurt the 4Runner sales.

Also, you guys did a swell job with this one. I feel like the production value and discussion are 120 percent of the usual premium offering. You took the time.
I am trading in my 17 4Runner for this in premium trim next week. Buying it because it is build in Japan in the same factory as the LC. It will outlast all its competitors by decades. The grill is polarizing but actually works and blends well when you see the car in flesh.

Everyone lost their minds on how amazing the tundra/sequoia/LX redesign was, but tbh when I saw this I saw rushed and half assed in all 3 vehicles. So many things were afterthought or last minute changes, I can almost guarantee we have an emergency refresh on at least the two SUVs for 2023, but we could see one for the tundra too

I'm still annoyed at why the Sequoia has better features on paper and bang for your buck than this. Its almost like they didn't want this to do better. No disconnecting sway bars, no panoramic sunroof, no locking diffs (although MTS is better IMO). No hybrid. The sequoia makes 100ftlbs more in torque given that its a hybrid. Lexus fan boys dismiss everything wrong with this truck because it's reliable. Imo Lexus rests on it's laurels way too much knowing they don't have to compete on a German level because of that.
And what’s wrong with reliability being the focal point of this car. There’s a reason these thrive in Australia and Middle East because there’s a market that prioritizes reliability over gimmicky features. It’s nowhere close to Germans in tech, but excels in long term ownership and owners satisfaction, and there’s a big demand for that here in the Middle East you can’t have both.

It's unbelievable that in this day and age, with that much real estate available inside, that the interior design and utility are so disjointed and lack luster. No design language on the inside, and a loud, shouting one outside
The Straight Pipes review said the audio system slaps harder than Will Smith, so it's interesting to see your opinion on it (may have been a different version?). What I love about you guys is that you're not afraid to call out when a company is resting on its laurels...which this vehicle seems to be. Lexus knows they'll sell a million of them anyway, so why do better? Mind you, that's the same attitude the Americans automakers had in the 60's and 70's, and look how that worked out for them.
If its the upper end Levinson its the same. I think the difference in opinions on the audio testing side is the objective testing that confirms the audible shortcomings.
I’m not really surprised though. Lexus and Toyota have always been companies that rest on their laurels a lot and are hesitant to adopt new technology and improve. At least they’re reliable though
@@kevinyeh8891 I don't mind them being slow to adopt new tech; I drive an 08 Fiesta and the classic triple-knob HVAC interface in it is far superior to a touchscreen. The biggest flaw in the 2022 LX is that it will be a very low distribution model unlike the 80, 100, and 200 series Land Cruisers and LXs. Toyota might sell a couple thousand a year. Instead of being a vibrant parts market, after a few years parts will be impossible to find.
Mechanical stuff is common. Toyota will probably run with this same platform for a long time. If you cannot buy a new grill, that would be a plus for the rest of us. The family truckster for 2022, it’s so comically proportioned that they should have Chevy Chase doing the first commercials.
This drivetrain is on the new Land Cruiser, Tundra, and Sequoia. Those last two are volume sellers, so there shouldn’t be any issues with parts being “…impossible to find”.
I am really curious how this actually compares to a Range Rover. I know you said in your review that people who buy Range Rovers really only care about prestige and didn't dwell on them beyond that, but Range Rovers are still very capable offroad vehicles despite the bling. I'd argue that a Range Rover might be the LX600's closest competitor if the Grand Wagoneer didn't exist.

Every one I’ve seen is around 110k. Haven’t seen a single one under 100k. Coming from a last gen Escalade. This thing feels so much nicer in terms of build quality.
A lot of people put too much stock in Lexus' build quality as the primary driving factor for why their vehicles are so reliable. This is only partly true. They use old tech/drivetrains for 10-15 years longer than the competition and that's why they're so reliable. Their fit and finish is absolutely top notch, however when they come out with a new model every 15-20 years they will absolutely have the same growing pains as any other manufacturer and we're seeing it already with the Tundra. Experienced car buyers know not to buy a new vehicle on it's year of release- it doesn't matter who made it.
Somehow I think these new Toyota trucks just seem underdone. They don’t give off the air that they are the bulletproof machines they used to be. My neighbor has a 10 year old Land Cruiser with the 5.7 liter V8 and I wouldn’t hesitate to get one of those over this. That seems like a forever vehicle. Time will tell on this and the new Tundra.
i cant afford any of the vehicles that you mentioned lol but if i had to choose it would be LEXUS hands down. from the resale value to the "reliability" since this has yet to be really proven. I would much rather take a lexus over a bmw/jeep/mercedes any day. Sad they dont offer a v8 or diesel option. but nothing we can do about that
When you design a vehicle for a 25 year lifespan, you typically leave some of the luxury features out. How long a does Range Over or Jeep last in comparison to this vehicle? I still see plenty of +20 years old Toyota SUVs on the roads but not so many of the competition.

This is meant for the rich guys living in Russia and Middle East so it is less tailored to American family needs, hence you see a lot of conflicting or less cohesive design. It is very hard to make a family 7 seater SUV while still want to retain its hardcore offroader nature while throwing a bunch of luxury features on it. It is hard to please everyone.
My family has been with Lexus for 20 plus years. But this LX 600? Sorry Lexus. You could've done better with design based on its own pricing. I would buy 2 GX460 for this price.

Just get an x7 like Mark did. When you drive the new X5 vs RX and X7 vs GX/LX it's amazing how much better in every way the BMWs are. Except of course that Lexus reliability.
They need a grill option, they need to bring back the split tailgate, and they need to offer an off-road package that has a better angle of approach and departure.
This is such a great assessment of this vehicle. I bought an LX because I want Toyota reliability juxtaposed with luxury, and I do take Mine off-roading. I wish Lexus would understand that mindset and build a Sequoia-“Max” or Grand Highlander “Max” vehicle to fit this slot of Ultra Luxury CSUV that they are trying to coerce the LX into being. Theres a reason this product isn’t working for Lexus at the moment. They are trying to make it go through a trans stage of life that is diametrically opposed to its original intention. Would be no different than trying to turn a Ford Bronco into a Ford escape… wait for has already done that with the poor bronco sport
Basically, this is completely pointless as vehicles go. Inefficient, cramped, weird infotainment screens, questionable front grille, very expensive, maybe (MAYBE) decent off road, where no one will take it. I WANT ONE! I will toss some 33’s on there, and make this beast the luxury overlander it’s meant to be.
I know looks are a very subjective thing - the front end styling is a bit much for me but the 3/4 view from the back is attractive IMO. Inside looks like Lexus took every idea from the staff breakroom suggestion box and implemented it - a tapestry of glitz that was literally thrown together. They really missed an opportunity to impress here, maybe the mid-cycle refresh will fix that. What did impress me was the acceleration when Mark nailed it. For nearly 3 tons, that beast got to 60 pretty quickly....now imagine if it was just 10% lighter. Great, informative review 👍

Well the same can be said across of makes. The GM Ford 10 speed is still a little funky depending which application you get it in. This just year 1 issues and now more than ever one should consider the new model maybe 3 years in.

Another top quality video. We should all be thankful that mark and Jack put the time and effort that they do into making this type of content.

The biggest flaw in the 2022 LX is that it will be a very low distribution model unlike the 80, 100, and 200 series Land Cruisers and LXs. Toyota might sell a couple thousand a year. Instead of being a vibrant parts market, after a few years parts will be impossible to find.

14:00 Toyota struggles with their initial transmission tuning apparently. It took them ~5 years to dial in the Tacoma's 6 speed. I remember people complaining about the 8 speed when it launched in the Highlander (I've driven a 2017 and it wasn't refined, it's much better in the 2021s). So I'm not surprised this 10 speed is "lost". I've read these same complaints about the Tundra. I bet over time they will dial in the tuning, but it may take a few years.
Well the same can be said across of makes. The GM Ford 10 speed is still a little funky depending which application you get it in. This just year 1 issues and now more than ever one should consider the new model maybe 3 years in.
Interesting. One of the benefits of driving a computer on wheels is they can just reprogram the transmission when they figure out. The time it takes to figure out however, is the killer.

I absolutely agree with you on the interior tech and the lack of massaging seats. For those reasons and a few more I won’t be buying one.
Can someone please explain what body on frame means? and what is the alternative configuration?
Body on frame is whrn The body/cab is lowered onto the frame rails. Other option is unibody. A singular body in white where suspension is attached to it. Thats how almost all cars and SUVs are made. Trucks are almost exclusively body on frame.
Body on frame is what it sounds like.
The body or cabin or truck bed is literally/simply bolted to the frame rails.
I’ll hold on to my 2014 LX570
Just as expected, the new engines have major issues. They should've temporarily offered the new V6 aside the old 3UR V8 while it is proven on the market
