- The 2024 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail + ($77,250 starting in the US, $101,850 starting in Canada) is a long awaited refresh of Lexus’ beloved luxury offroader. Here with a fresh new boxy look and lots of new tech and features, the new Lexus GX aims to combine road comfort with off road capability. Powered by a 3.4L twin-turbo V6, the GX makes 349 horsepower and 479 lb ft of torque. It also has tons of off road goodies like available 33 inch all terrain tires, a locking rear differential, crawl control and more. But does it live up to its rather steep price tag? So refreshing to see a car desgined with no gimmicks. No annoying features behing a touch screen, no stupid capacitive touch buttons, a proper gear lever, etc. With so many manufacturer's trying to re-invent the wheel, Lexus got the fundamentals spot on.

Cars with no gimmicks is a Toyota... buuut the whole Lexus brand is a gimmick of Toyota.

14:17 Hey guys, Lexus Tech here. That beeping sound that happens in the drivers seat when you move it is actually something that's supposed to be removed during the GX PDI process, but all Lexus cars from factory come like that. I believe it's there to remind the tech doing the PDI to set the seat memory, so when it isn't set, it just beeps when moving it. All they had to do it move the seat through all of the maximum movements possible in the seat control, and it'll go away. Always love the videos guys, keep up the good work
Kinda right, kinda wrong. It’s a reminder that the seat ecu hasn’t been initialized. The seat memory function doesn’t work til it is initialized. Also I’m sure setting the seat memory isn’t part of the PDI process.

Man this new GX is a winner, body-on-frame, 9000lb tow rating, massaging seats, and it looks that good? I’ll definitely pick this over a defender any day
It also got lower weight overall than even Scion xB and Chevy Blazer EV.
I've got a 17 GX and it's a peach. About to put it on TRD wheels and 33" tires. Then I will pull up on the curb at Starbucks cause I can.

We’ll see about the 3.4TT, in the Tundra this driveline has turned out to have a ton of issues. I dont know why everyone glances over that when talking about this car. Just because its a Lexus doesnt mean it will be reliable
That’s a gorgeous interior. So clean and simple, elegant and functional. Lexus and Porsche get it, they understand something that many others seem to have lost touch with. Horizontal lines are beautiful.

To be fair, the US, UK, & Japan have been doing great modernizing the design of a cube. All that's left is Ze Germans of which outside the G-Wagon doesn't really do a great job nowadays tbh.
The best part of a defender is the comfort while waiting for a tow truck 🤣

Reviews are always thick with honesty, with both self deprecation of humour and when necessary, vehicle annihilation. As a British petrol head in his 40’s that grew up on the best years of Top Gear, I’m qualified to say that these guys are the NOW and the future. 👍🏻
The obvious punchline would be to have the "train" turn out to be a Lexus LM with the huge "cow catcher" grille! Still a funny intro though!

I’m not an SUV guy, but it looks like a landcruiser and an FJ cruiser had a baby and it grew up to be a body builder. It’s pretty sick
and there will be a land cruiser version of this as well (albeit a cousin of this vehicle called the LC 250 in the US, Canada, Europe market, and Japan Market or LC Prado in other markets)

They absolutely knocked this one out of the park. One of the few SUVs I’ve really been impressed with in recent years.
I hope Lexus sees the beauty of "less is more" design and carries that philosophy across the entire brand.
That's awesome to hear about the engine not being too stressed. When I'm on the freeway going 70 mph the LX is sitting at around 1.8k RPM. It feels like it's just relaxing the whole time. I love that and would hope it stays that way in the new GX and LX.
I know this won't ever happen considering US/Canada's views on Diesels nowadays, but imagine if the GX gets the TTV6 Diesel from the Land Cruiser 300 series which has even more torque at around 700Nm / 516lb-ft.

You don’t want rear steer on an offroad capable vehicle, you’d wear the suspension out on articulation for sure. Screens are fine in reference to Ford because I’ve been seeing people have problems with the bmw styled screens they’re using recently.

The beeping that happens when you adjust the driver's seat is the warning noise that tells you the memory seat is not initialized. Usually its initialized during a pre delivery inspection.

Lexus nailed it on this one. You are right, it's instantly a want. Looks amazing, drives - well it's a Lexus so it's a very comfortable drive, and again it's a Lexus so I'm sure it is going to be extremely reliable.
It's just a re-badged Toyota Land Cruiser Prado with some extra comforts lacking in the LC, as the Lexus GX has always been.

Totally agree. I've been waiting a few years for this redesign and will happily wait for a post initial production run and the GX550h to be introduced, which I'm guessing will actually be the model to get.
@@makeyourmark00 I think half the people I talk to have been waiting to buy the new GX including myself. All the staff at my Lexus dealer say they're buying one and they're only built at Tahara in Japan so good luck getting one in the US.

@@omnimoeish I'm in no rush. I don't like buying initial production run vehicles, even if it's Lexus/Toyota. I'll let the craze and settle down first and I am much more interested in the hybrid which is being launched in other markets first.
I looked up the price of my GX470 in 2004 when it was new, $48,000. Price adjusted for 2024, that comes to $77,000.

Yes if you do not factor in cost of living and whatnot which has risen much more than median wages. So there is probably some math that says this should actually be $59,000 or something instead.
Yes 48 to 72 .It is ridiculous .It is time to bay reel luxury vehicle like RANGE ,ROVER .BENZ .BMW….Pay 78000 for Toyota is r ridiculous. It is like bay Citizen watch (Lexus) for Rolex(RANGE ROVER,BENZ…).
The seat is beeping when adjusting because it hasn’t been calibrated yet. You have to move the seat fully forward, then the back seat bottom moved down fully, then the front seat bottom lowered fully, then the seat back moved foreword fully. That will calibrate the seat and it won’t beep

I have an 07 GX470 that I love to drive. It's really fun to drive and has serious off-road cred plus the V8 has good power. This new GX seems like it retains the same type of spirit of my GX.
I have the exact same , an 07 and an 19 … the 07 seems more like the formula of this new GX , than the one it’s replacing. Love both of them thought.
Before I even watch the video the first 2 minutes were AWESOME 😅 love it. Now back to the car review. I hope it's a good one

As a 6’6” automobile enthusiast, I loved that you had your 6’6” colleague hop in the back seat. But what I really need is what is his space and adjustment like in the drivers seat. There have been plenty of vehicles that I would have preordered if only I knew I would fit. Would be awesome, however assuming impractical, if you had this for every review!!! Love your videos though!
I’m 6’5 250 and I can fit with no issue in my 23’ IS 500. My girlfriend can sit behind me too. This car is definitely bigger so you should have no issue there. I also own a Tacoma and have plenty of room.

I'm 6'5", and my IS350 fits me okay. Good legroom, but if I stretch on a road trip I don't have enough headroom. Either way, it's a real struggle to get anyone behind me - I wouldn't do it for more than 10 minutes.

There's no reason to buy a defender 110 anymore. This is virtually the same thing but you won't spend most of your time in a loaner vehicle...which will have a 50% chance of breaking down as well.
