This is the only vehicle I’ve ever thought about buying and putting $10k in to fully restoring the engine and body to factory condition
That's almost about how much this one cost 😭
Did this with my 2004 LC100 when it hit 300,000 miles. Just a fantastic vehicle. Now at 440k, just can;t keep up with aging rubber hoses/clamps/etc. been an amazing vehicle, but “old vehicle issues” happen sooner or later to all.
Mechanically it could do 1m miles, no question. At 20 yrs old, other things are keeping it from being my primary vehicle.
@@christofonobrown3659what hoses and clamps are you referring to?
@@ManzanitaRecords all of them. Every mount (body/engine/trans/chassis) mount I changed showed signs of dry-rotting (hardened, cracked, chunked, etc) and hoses were showing similar. That was my LC, every vehicle ages at different rates depending on usage, humidity over life, heat, etc.
I drove an lx470 daily for 14 years. Sold it a few months ago with 250+k miles. The guy I sold it to uses it daily. Unbelievably reliable.
Dang nice! Yeah and it'll do another 250k easily
Love it, just getting broken in:)
My dad put 250k on an 86 Toyota Van and sold it to the landscaper who then put another 125k on it before selling it haha.
Aye that 2uz is the million mile motor. My 04 sequoia over 300k miles is running good. I also agree. This era of toyota trucks are the best in my opinion. Everything feels so solid and satisfying
Yeah man they really don't make them like they used to!
This is my 3rd Lx470, bought wife and i matching 2000 models, had them for several years, sold both, missed them so bad, sought out another and found a 2006 Galactic Grey gem with only 76k miles across the country. I paid a premium for it, but honestly have not seen another SUV from 06 up to current 2024 that I'd trade it for. This thing is smooth, refined, elegant while also very capable. I'm in Colorado and it performs in the ice and snow better than any other vehicles that I stoplight-race with. The traction control and planted feel make you confidently win all traction races from the line in the snow! All around its a beautiful wip. Since I purchased it 4 years ago, the value has increased by over 10k! Couldn't be happier! Thanks for the video that confirms all of my same experiences.
What a great find, low miles! I wish you many years to come with it!
Finally, you review my favourite vehicle. Thanks so much . 🙏
And thank you for watching!! I'm glad!!
Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you guys enjoy this one. I really checked a bucket list item by reviewing this thing LOL
You should re-do the LX 570 at some point in the future! Your current video is great, but I think the context of the market has changed quite a bit since your review. I'd be interested in your thoughts sitting in the 570 after having reviewed the GX 550/460 & LX 470
Very detailed and well-done review. I’m neither a truck guy nor a Lexus guy, but I now want an LX470 to join my two Honda’s lol.
Thank you! 🙏🏾 haha they make for great tow rigs! 😂
i have a 1999 my parents bought in 2004 with 84k on the engine. it now has about 204k on the clock, with its ORIGINAL timing belt. after my mom got hit, it was totaled but we restored it a couple years ago, and it has been running great.
Ohh woww what a tank! Cheers to another 200k!
My brotha and sis in law had a 04 LX470 since 07 and man it’s a great truck which influenced my recent purchase of my new to me 2000 100 series LC and loving it.
Nice!! That's great to hear!
Yeah. I always love the LX470.. Id buy it over most new vehicles
I owned a 2005 4runner limited with all available options. Very close to that lexus
Very nice yeah I like the 4Runner's quite a bit too! Especially the V8, very sweet
@@BernonCars Yes. It was a V8 limited with the air ride suspension and hydrologic shocks.. I was the 2nd owner, it had 45k miles at purchase. Sold it last year for 7k with 198k miles. Everything was stock and still worked perfectly.. I think I sold it cheap looking back now. 😥.
@@Antares_451 ohh wow fancy! Yeah my dad had a Limited that he sold for cheap too. His was an 05
I love your Lexus/Toyota videos, keep them coming! We've had a 2014 LX570 for about a year and a half and 20k miles, now 163k, and we love it! Your comments and the AHC suspension were spot on. That's one of my favorite features of the LX! We're looking forward to keeping this one on the road for a very long time, but I'd love to have a 100 series too someday!
Thank you! I certainly will! I'd love to find a 570 one day to review! I hope you have many years with it!!
Another great review!
Thank you much!
Awesome overview. Great Sunday morning coffee time info! For the family who smokes would have been a great marketing line.
Thank you sir! I appreciate that! Hahaha
Just subscribed. I love watching older more "affordable" car reviews for the not so well off market. Will be watching your next vids
Oh nice welcome aboard! I appreciate that! I have plenty to come!
Really enjoyed the video love the LX470
Thank you!!
This was such a good review. I love this car. ❤
Thank you! Me too!!
nice job on this video!
Thank you!
Thanks for the great, detailed review. Test drove a 2007 today. Buying tomorrow.
Thank you! I wish you luck! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for another great review Bern! I have a 2007 4Runner with the 2UZ, I love it! Also have a 1995 Toyota Crown Majesta with the 2JZ, also a pleasure to drive.
And thank you for watching! Niceee what a great pair!
Crazy you put this out, I’ve been in the market for the lx470 to build a overland rig with
Ohh yeah? Haha perfect timing 😆
True. My 2000 LX470 rode, handled & went down the road more solidly and more settled than even my 2023 LX that was awful. These, if you can find a dealer maintained non rusty great one, are awesome. Even the hydraulic ride is fantastic & doesn’t break.
Yeah it's shocking, the new ones ride like they're on glass. Love the float of the OG
These are few and far between in my neck of the woods, but there are a few of the pre-facelift models I see on occasion. I think I’ve only ever seen one with the nice LED taillights, but they look really cool. Thanks for another great review!
Yeah I only see these late ones occasionally myself! Thanks for watching!
Sold my 97 lx450 and grabbed a lx470. I could see why back then this was a HUGE upgrade. Maybe not from an offroading standpoint, but everything else was ahead of its time. LX450 felt more offroady. LX470 is more comfort oriented. 2uz was enough for me to make the switch. Great video!
Thank you for watching! Yeah man! I'd love to try out a 450 some time though
Thanks Bern for the deep dive information on every single car you picked, Am now requesting 2018 Lexus ES350 🙏
Thank you I appreciate that! I'll keep that in mind!!
Great video! I enjoy your reviews. Can’t understand why someone so young loves old cars though.
Thank you i appreciate that! It's because they're better! LOL new cars are just rolling computers 🖥️
I love these, and have wanted one for about 5 years, but did not want to deal with such an old vehicle. I am delighted the new GX550 has a similar look.
Yeah the new GX and Land Cruiser look like a great modern rendition of these!
The shoutout to the 11 ft 8 bridge was excellent.
Hahaha yes!! 😆
Bro that’s a sick car!
Yeah dude!!
The LX470 is awesome. I have a LX470 in New Zealand and it’s a 2006 model and just awesome mate!
Oh wow nice! Thanks for stopping by!
Don't forget the similarly equipped 2003-09 GX470. Same engine and trim in a slightly more compact body. Legendary build quality.
Oh yes of course!
Thanks for the great video. My mom is gifting me her 2006 GX 470 and it has 160, 000 on it and it’s lived it’s whole life in the garage. She’s maintained it pristinely and only serviced at Lexus dealership. It runs like it’s brand new. I’ve heard stories of these vehicles getting up to 500K miles. Is that true? Suck a gorgeous truck. Thanks again
Thank you for watching! That's a great gift man! It'll totally do 500k as long as you keep up with maintenance! Valve cover gaskets eventually leak oil, timing belt & water pump and you're set!
Thanks for the reply man. I’m excited to pick it up.
My 98 LX470 with 280k still drive like a dream. Replaced 16" wheels with 20" chrome from a 2008 lx570 and it looks great! I like it better than my 2013 570😊
Nice!! Fancy looking!
Nice improvement on the intro
Thank you Im glad you noticed haha
I love this vehicle! I currently own a 2014 Camry, 2015 RAV4, 2016 4Runner and a 2018 GX460. I am thinking about selling my 4Runner and buying a 2006 LX. Great video. Thanks!!
Thank you!! You'd really like the upgrade!! Cheers!
Awesome video! I absolutely love my '04, don't know if I could ever sell her. Btw, those seats of his are also aftermarket, look like covers
Thank you! Yeah you should hold onto her for as long as you can! Yeah the leather itself was a replacement
Nice video and that LX470 is in great shape. My friend has those same Goodyear tires on his truck and they are very noisy, and certainly not any good for driving back roads. I have Falken Wildpeak AT3W's on my Land Cruiser Prado and they are much quieter and better mannered on the road, plus they are very competent off road.
Thank you! Yes its in great shape! Good to know. I like the wildpeaks myself!
The best vehicle from the best factory in Japan!
Without a doubt!
Excellent review! 👍😎👍
Might be my next family vehicle
Thank you!! An excellent choice!
I don't say this often, but that's better looking than my LX! Love the gold package.
And you have a good looking LX!!
Love your real-world reviews. it makes me want to buy one.
"Ashtrays for the kids or the homies" 😂
I appreciate that! It's accommodating for all! 🤣
The Land Cruiser 100 series had an OEM Toyota TV entertainment system in the cieling, like that white one. Came with headphones too
Good to know!
You should do a whole video using that voice for the trunk and the power folding mirrors 😂😂
LMAO I'm on it I'll totally do it 😂
@@BernonCars Yes!! thank you! That made my morning! I couldn't stop laughing at it!
You always got some Doug Demuro in your presentation, keep it up
Haha I appreciate that 😆
I think Bern is better then Doug. Bern keeps me watching Doug doesn't
@Stormtrooper I agree with you.
@Stormtrooper_98Trd I appreciate that sir!
Very cool vehicle. Didn’t know it had a night vision camera option. That’s pretty nuts for its generation.
Right! Very surprising for 04!
It's a beauty
It really is!
The greatest car I have ever drove and owned
A great vehicle to own!
One time one of these got traded in to the carmax i worked at and it had TVs in the head rest, but it ran off a VHS tape in the trunk. Never seen that before.
Ohh woww that's crazy! 😆
This is the kind of car that would br so fun with manual transmission. They have this configuration in the asian market. But i doubt many if at all exist in the western market.
Yeah I can't even imagine a manual LX here! That would be cool haha
Nice intro song
Thank you! 😆😆 its Summer Melody by Dan Mason
200k miles and still sounds like brand new coming out of a showroom.. amazing..
Toyota!
@@BernonCars Yes. I got quite a few of those Land Cruisers and LXs. Simply the best.
Good review. Seems like the front seats were replaced as well.
I appreciate that! Yeah Louis replaced the leather himself!
I have an 04 that I just got, I've been wanting to find the newer style tail lamps and rear spoiler wing to add to mine.
Ohh nice yeah those will look real sharp
I have an '03 4Runner Limited that I bought with 295,000 miles on it. I had a 2013 GX460 that got destroyed by an Albanian idiot in an accident - that to date has been my favorite car. I currently operate and drive a 2015 4Runner Limited 4x4 which I thoroughly enjoy every time I'm behind the wheel, which isn't all that much since working from home. Would love to have an LX 470, another GX 460, and an LX 570 all at the same time one day.
That's upsetting about the GX, but yeahh for now the 4Runner is a great buy! V8?
@@BernonCars Yes, the '03 is a V8. Fantastic vehicle. So much fun. I put a stereo in it that cost about as much as the car and everything on that vehicle works as intended. It is a thing of beauty.
I had my eye on an 06 back in Nov 2013 with low miles but went with an 07 GX instead.
Oh dang, still a great choice!
It's a land cruiser
Land Cruiserrrr
If you can afford one get one, it’s better than a sequoia and it will last forever, you can run 87 in them and mpg isn’t bad if you keep your foot out of it, do budget for some baseline repairs but they are pretty easy to work on. I have had mine over a year at 300k plus miles and I wouldn’t trade it for anything, it’s probably the best value out there for a used family offroad suv that will handle daily duties if you want.
Oh yeah totally. They are the best!!
Please use the side steps/running boards getting in and getting out of the car. That's what they're meant for.
🇰🇪
I always step over them LOL 😆 on my own vehicles I take them off!
@BernonCars but why 😂 I mean, if you're not into hardcore offroading, then I don't see the need to remove them. To me, it's classy stepping on them and grabbing the handle while getting into the car. They also add some beauty aesthetics to a car. Try it and maybe you'll change your mind, hopefully 😊
@BernonCars also, using them while getting out of the car, saves the seat 💺 from constant friction, which brings about tear and wear.
Bern what wireless mic are you using?
Rode Wireless Go 2!
@@BernonCars Sounds very good!
I cant decide between this LX470, a GX 470, GX460, and the land cruiser 🙈
Decisions decisions!! So hard to choose LOL
I found a 2006 with 158k miles on it but they want 14k for it, it’s a great truck but is also turning 20 in 2 years 😢
Damnn honestly not a bad deal if its in good shape
Best vehicle EVER made. Ever!!! Got 300,000 on my 05 Land Cruiser, imperial jade mica ❤. My family also has a rare black / black GS430 2005, ES330 w/ 340,000 miles, SC430 with 67k miles, IS300 sport cross w 98k miles. And we just sold an ES350 and LS460. Oh and a 2004 Solara SLE V6 coupe.
Ohh nice!! What a fleet!
03 sequoia 260k running strong.
Nice!!
Does anyone know the eBay seller of the steering wheel at 16:30?
Yeah right!
It's a UZJ100 Land Cruiser built in Japan at their Araco (Later Toyota Auto Body) Yoshiwara plant, the flagship vehicle in the line-up built at their finest facility. I've owned a variety of different Toyota 4x4 trucks and SUV's (10). My 2000 UZJ100 Land Cruiser was the finest of them all. I wish I still had that one for sure. And yes, all the Toyota's I've ever owned manufactured in Japan were better. The US built stuff is good also, but not as good.
Oh yeah without a doubt they are better
CORRECTION: THE LX470 is not a 4x4 and its not a proper 4 by 4 as stated in this video at 7:10.
Lx470 is a 4WD and NOT A 4X4.
A 4WD is essentially an AWD with the option of CDL and 4LO.
4X4 IS THE TRUE 4X4 as it is 2WD SYSTEM with the option to engage 4HI N 4LO and CDL.
4X4 is essentially in 2WD mode by default. Which is good in Fuel efficiency and power distribution.
Say you rear wheels are stuck in a 4WD with Center Diff activated that means the rear wheels will only get 50% of the Torque. In a 4x4 system since its 2WD by default the rear wheels get 100% of the power. In a 4x4 all 4 wheels get power once 4 HI is engaged and CDL.
Now, in 4WD if you broke a front axle you are stuck (as power goes to the wheel with 0 traction). But in a 4x4 if the front axle broke you can deactivated the 4HI AND CENTER DIFF LOCK (CDL) and proceed with just the Rear Wheels (2WD). Hence they call it TRUE 4X4. THE X is not a "multiplication sign" but it denotes the Center Differential in the center sending power to all 4 Corners.
4WD denotes all 4 Wheels are constantly engaged.
4x4 denotes the driver has the option to allocate power to all 4 Wheels.
Also, some trucks had locking front hubs. They were mainly useful in 4WD systems as the driver had the option to lock the front hubs in doing so this powered the locked wheel. In onroad conditions the driver would UNLOCK the hubs for fuel efficiency essentially making it a RWD. Also, if you broke an axle you can unlock the hub and limp in 3 Wheels.
A Good Example of 4x4 would be TOYOTA 4 RUNNER LIMITED 3RD GEN 99-2000 With a J-Gate T-Case.
The LX470/570 and LC all get bad Gas mileage because of the 4WD system. If it were 4x4 with RWD in constant Default the MPG would be easily 21mpg combined.
Thank you for your words
@@BernonCars
Oh, and Thank You. I Love your presentation makes for great content.
Also, scout out a 4x4 and study the system and do a video on 4x4 vs 4WD vs AWD vs Front Locking Hub system. I haven't seen on UA-cam. One Australian You Tuber talked about 4x4 but he never dwelved into it much.
Research as most people don't know and since you have a strong UA-cam Presence you will certainly educate lots of People.
Also look into 1st Gen Tacomas the had FLH (Front Locking Hub).
I wanted to get one but too expensive for the year and mileage
Yeahh same here that's why I didn't get one
Great vehicle but becoming harder to find and buy. Why? Age. To find one that isn't rusted and needing major repair is becoming very difficult. If you can find one buy it and good luck!
Yeah age and the types of characters that buy them haha
@@BernonCars very good point they can be the worst vehicle you ever could buy just based on how it was maintained. I the problem with these high-end luxury vehicles if they’re maintained they can last forever if not they’ll be the most expensive hog on the planet.
Nightvision was only 03-04'.
Oh really? Interesting good to know!
2006
I have one
Very nice but VERY gas hungry
Painfully very true 🥲
Who cares when these engines regularly go to 500k.
@@NorthweSteelheadJunkies LOL
You don't buy v8 or even v6 full frame suv for gas mileage lol
@@asadb1990 Spoken like a true American. I didn't say V6 or V8 engines sip gas, but come to Canada and pay $8 a gallon and then see why we look for a 4x4 V6 that is as good on gas as it can be. And there is now something called cylinder shutdown that can make a V8 as good as any 4 cylinder on the highway
Until you’re at the gas station.
Yupppp and that's why I don't have one 🤣
Well I have two (2) GX 470 and I am happy to fill it up with premium gas. You pick your ride.
@@dmitryadamenko6518amen I have a lifted GX470 and I get 15mpg in the city and 19 Highway! I'm happy to pay the premium on gas. It eats miles.
That’s the sacrifice.
