IF they go through a red light then yes they should be fined
And have points added to their driving licence if they have one.
Cyclists should be fined double or even triple car drivers as if a driver is cought crossing a red light they have points issued against their license which will cause them to eventually loose their license.
@@joshw9277 why?
Their fault if they get killed. So many cyclists especially on road bikes think they're invincible and nothing bad will happen to them. Unfortunately for them only they will be hurt
@@adolflenin4973 thanks? Lol
Quite right to pull over a cyclist who went through a red light, they are not exempt from the rules of the road, 😁👍
I've no sympathy for cyclists who jump read lights. However, that wasn't red, it was amber which means 'proceed with caution'.
@@johncookson9751 Nope. It means stop unless you have already crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident.
@@BucksCycleCam Amber traffic lights mean the lights are about to change to red. You should stop unless it's not safe to; for example if you've already crossed the stop line or someone is driving very close behind you. It's legal to drive through amber lights but make sure you only do it when necessary.
@@johncookson9751 Yes; I know, thanks. As you have yourself just confirmed, an amber light does not mean "proceed with caution".
Amber does not mean proceed with caution, did you get your licence out of a skip lmao?
Good...rules of the road apply ALSO to cyclists.
To those muppet cycles who give law abiding cyclist a bad name,"HC Rule 178. At traffic lights, It is an offence for any part of any motor vehicles. to cross a solid white line when either the lights are on red or amber. Also when moving off on red & amber light. Fixed penalty of 3points + Large fine. If cyclist have driving licence they also should get 3points
Wrong muppet, it’s ok to pass through Amber if it were hazardous to try and stop e.g you are too close to brake safely etc
It is all black and white with these people. The spirit of the law is more important than the letter of the law.
@@888jucuA minor point,,,Muppet 😠
@@user-vo3de1dz9b Its part of the law dipsh!t
As a cyclist myself i have no sympathy for red light or traffic signal violations of any kind and deserve the required punishment to the offence - iv'e always obeyed the highway code and i grit my teeth when i see cyclists commit violations like this and even have the nerve to argue it off..
I’m also a cyclist and I agree with you entirely. I wish the police would cite the scofflaw cyclists, not to mention the motorists that cause me to have near death experiences on an almost daily basis.
It is all arbitrary.
I used to follow the law, until I realised nobody else does, and nobody ever bothers to do anything about it. Eventually you notice that every single day you go out, someone is harassing you, putting you in danger, or trying to steal your bike. I realised I was only putting myself at a disadvantage, by behaving like a sheep in a world filled with rabid chihuahuas. One day you might go through a similar process, and stop being such a goody two shoes.

@@The_Gallowglass those are good rules, but you forgot 4) don't fart on public transport when there's someone sitting behind you, especially black people because they have big nostrils.
So they bloody should, they have no right to ride through red lights
At 0:31 its shows amber, plenty of time to stop on a bike! Not a pedal to stand on!
Sure, right in front of that lorry I just passed, which may not stop?
Maybe don't pass so close to a set of lights?
Where I come amber means speed the f-ck up. lol
Mate sod off, car drivers plow through ambers all the time regardless of if there's another car behind them. People fucking race to beat the red light which is not safe driving and not the intention of an amber light. Cyclists doing the same shouldn't be punished unless cars are too.
@@CycleGaz I mean, it's your fault for being so close and almost between the lorry? If there's not enough space or time to safely stop because of how close you are, then you are riding dangerously.
So cyclists can cross lanes without safely signaling and cut drivers off in your country??
Did that happen?
No, they can't actually do so but from this footage I never saw any driver being cut up by a cyclist. As someone who holds licences for multiple classes of vehicles I always use the appropriate hand signal as designated in the Highway code when cycling as if I was riding a motorcycle which was not fitted with signals due to its age.
If they hadn't realized that they stopped the wrong guy, it would've been your word against two cops whether or not you ran a red light. It happens. One more reason to keep the cameras rolling...
I see cars do that all the time
Maybe if all cyclists stopped at traffic lights and zebra crossings , which by the way is law , people wouldn't be so happy to see the odd one get taken out now and again . 👍👍👍👍
And have vertical ID plates on bikes. They're coming!
@@patrickforde7684 yeah because no driver of a car has ever run a red light or driven over the zebra crossing when they should've stopped for pedestrians? 🙄
@@jgill551 Never .
The Police Officer Smart has his hat on that in itself is unusual . Absolutely right to stop anyone going through a red light.
As a cyclist of 40 years riding who averages 5thou a year, anyone who runs a red light deserves what happens to them!
i've been a cyclist for 32 years in london never had a traffic accident cause i don't go through red lights, either.

Quite right too, the Lights are there for a reason, whether you are a cyclist or not. Don’t be a waz, just cuz you have a camera does not make you invincible.
Gaz went through on an amber, it was a case of mistaken identity hence why the policeman waves him off without a stern talking to and a fine.
Amper also means stop if it is safe to do so.
But the offence isn't committed on an amber. Needs to be red.
@@sleepingwarrior4618 No - the offence is committed on amber. Just because you never get pulled up for it doesn't mean it's not an offence.
throw the book at these clowns . red light is red , dangerous driving.
Do this everywhere, please!
I thought they were pulling you for crossing the double white lines in the road works.
I really (really) wanted him to ask, "Are you CycleGaz?" ;)
You beat me to saying that! Haha
But it has to be done Batman style....
"Who are you?"
"I'm CycleGaz"
JoeSoap76 EPIC COMENT! LOL
I didn't hear an "are you cyclegaz?" so rule 1 was observed.
Yeah I thought when you went through the yellow light that it was risky, if that guy went after you it's a definite RLJ.
A large amount of cyclists think they are above the law. The amount I see when working night shift with no lights at all is amazing.
They don't think they are above the law. A lot just don't realise there are laws that apply to bikes. Or they're just a bit thick.
I saw you go through on amber, not red. Was it mistaken identity or did they just think you wouldn't argue? I reckon you did the right thing going across. More dangerous to stop in that chaotic traffic. Kudos to you - personally, I'd wimp out and find a quieter route.
mistaken identity. They wanted to stop a different cyclist who did go through on red.
@@CycleGaz They are immigrants. They are free to do whatever they want lol
@@adolflenin4973 I think you misspelt your last name
The errant cyclist was behind him with the red backpack. You see the innocent cyclist overtaking him at the very beginning of the clip and when he went through the amber light the other one followed him through when the lights had by then gone red
Hi Gaz, just wondering at 0:10 you were filtering on a double white line, is this allowed? Thanks mate.
Yeah, look up the rules of double whites, perfectly fine in some situations, this being one.
***** I had a look and couldn't find anything that says you can cross then just to beat the traffic, my apologies if I'm wrong but could you point it out to me (I'm not trying to be pedantic, sorry)
MylesPluss There also isn't anything that says you can't cross them to 'beat the traffic'.
The rule here is you can't cross the white lines to pass traffic that is moving faster than 10mph.
There is nothing about filtering and I didn't cross the lines ;) also i think the traffic is doing less than 10mph.
***** "you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe" I think that is pretty clear.
Lets not forget the fact that I didn't actually cross the double white lines.
***** If you want to go deeper then I would read the legislation behind it, it adds more to the highway code and is what would actually be used in a court of law. Note that there are more situations than those in the highway code.
The legislation states " every vehicle proceeding on any length of road along which the marking has been so placed that, as viewed in the direction of travel of the vehicle, a continuous line is on the left of a broken line or of another continuous line, shall be so driven as to keep the first-mentioned continuous line on the right hand or off side of the vehicle." the continuous line must stay on the right side of your vehicle. This leads us to the point that double whites used in this fashion actually have no legislation behind them and as such are not the same as the usual double whites that we see separating two opposing lanes of traffic.
Lets again, not forget the point that I did not cross the white lines.
I cycle this route every day, and regularly filter through the whole section because the traffic is stand still. I'll take the lane when it is appropriate to do so. Your position on the road must be flexible to the conditions that you are riding in.
I lived in Victoria twenty years ago, had to watch three times to figure out your route…😂😂So much has changed.
It's changed even more now!
@@CycleGaz Well done british police.
At least the police are TRYING to enforce the law on cyclists. Cyclists are out of control and usually feel they are above the law.
@Gotchapolicewitness he's right though, I've seen so many cyclist not follow simple road rules. It's ridiculous. How hard is it to stop at a red light?
@JJ RAM
Or no big deal to real cyclists. It is a useful short rest. too many idiots break the law which applies to all road users.
if i cant drive within 1.5 meters of them how come they are allowed to drive through a gap between 2 vehicles less than a meter apart ???????
@@alanhutchings6713 because they pose minimal risk to other road users, whereas a heavy car is lethal and requires a licence to be allowed to use the road. Cyclist isn't going to kill himself deliberately, but close passing in a car is incredibly dangerous (air turbulence & speed difference). The physics of balancing a bicycle requires slight sideways movements, add in pot holes and cyclists need lateral space, they don't move in a perfectly straight line and passing at 30cm you're going to knock them off
Did you not know cyclists have their own rules of the road non of it matches the Highway code.
Lol at the other cyclist cycling away, he looked quite smug with himself.
As if there ain’t enough obstacles on the roads....
How come cyclists don’t give 1.5m gap when under and overtaking?
Similar to when you walk along the train platform next to the train when the train is stationary or moving slowly but you don't stand near the edge when it is coming through at 50mph.
What is a cyclist going to do to your metal cage you snowflake?
Because they don't obey many parts of the Road Traffic Act as they believe only the parts they want apply to them.

It was Evo Lucas on the radio wondering if you were CycleGaz.
There's plenty of stupid cyclists around unfortunately. You get hit by a vehicle, who will come of worse.
@Robert Parkinson Exactly. But most cyclists think they are indestructible and have no clue what colliding with 1 ton+ of motor vehicle at more than a few mph will do to their flesh and bones. Perhaps they think the bike frame will save them?
Hello CycleGaz! Is it okay to use it please ? Credited of course! Thanks in advance.
Sadly drivers do the same thing
How can anybody cycle on lethal roads like this? The red light is the least of anybody's problem.
You were quite lucky. The light was clearly on amber when you went through it. Technically, you should have stopped.
Why didn't the police pull over the other car that was also running a red light, but a bicycle?
@@weekdaycyclingEasy target... 🤬
Amber means slow, caution, it doesn't mean stop.
You breached a traffic sign too. Amber means stop unless unsafe to do so. You have plenty of time to stop safely. Not great pointing out how you were as bad. 🤦🏼♂️
Peter O correct I did laugh at the irony
He didn't do anything wrong. Get a grip.
@@The_Gallowglasshow do you work that out? Amber light means stop. He rode straight through it when he had ample opportunity to stop safely.
All town and city cyclists think the laws of the road do not apply to them, they are all a disaster waiting to happen and of course have no insurance. About time that law was changed!! All cyclists should be forced to do a proficiency test, a highway code test, and have at the very minimum third party insurance, if not then public liability insurance!!
I disagree as not all cyclists commit violations of the Road Traffic Act but the percentage that do by cycling on pavements where it is not a cycle route, not obeying other traffic regulations such as "skipping" red lights, etc is probably the highest out of all road users but the least enforced due to the fact they are more difficult to prove guilty due to not having a identifiable item like a visible registration plate and that has caused them to be complacent and think the RTA doesn't apply to them.
You nazis would advocate that for pedestrians next 🤦♂️
A bicyclist shouldn't have insurance. You're f-ckin' mental.
Cyclists want drivers to leave big gaps between cars and bikes but they never do the same. Hypocrites!!

Well technically, the guy filming could have safely stopped on amber but went through...which is the same offence so he was lucky really.
its not the same offense. On yellow you only have to stop if its safe ( maybe someone was close behind him) and on a red you must stop.
Do you know the law? I thought not. You can go through on yellow if it's safe to do so, which it looked like.
Yes, as others have said, stopping dead when the amber appeared could have had a lorry (or even another cyclist) up your arse. You should be fine so long as no cyclist or car decides to jump the red at the other part of the junction in which case you both may be up shit creak. Weigh up the risks.
@Advanced Driving Best you read Rule 109, and the reference to the images on page 102 Traffic Light Signals in the Highway code.
RED means STOP. Wait behind the stop line on the carriageway.
RED & AMBER also means STOP. Do not pass through or start until GREEN shows.
GREEN means you may go on if the way is clear. Take special care if you intend to turn left or right and give way to pedestrians who are crossing.
AMBER means STOP at the stop line. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up may cause an accident.
@@nickolasreeks4743 Yep so a long winded way of saying you can go through on amber... 😆

London is and has always been a sh-thole. Gets worse by the day and going through on a yellow is the least to worry about.
0:32 jumped the orange light. You had plenty of time to stop considering they mean "Get ready to stop" :) nit picking.
Orange means get ready to stop.... if you can pass before hand, go ahead.
You need to re-read the highway code, rule 175. Amber actually means stop under the current highway code unless you have already passed the stop line or are so close that to stop might cause a collision. Looking at Gaz's speed and position when the lights changed to Amber he should have stopped.
hard breaking on a bike in traffic when you don't really need to is like very dangerous 'cause a car can rear end you and take you on his hood (knowing that bike don't have brake lights and a lot of drivers don't know what safety distance is and some of them might accelerate when they see the traffic light turn yellow).
For exemple:
when i stop at an crosswalk i go next to the sidewalk before i break so in case a driver behind me is not paying attention it won't rear end me (or at least he can do a slight turn to avoid me without getting on the 2nd lane).
But if it happens to me to see a pedestrian that is already on the sidewalk (crossing from the other sidewalk toward my lane) when i'm less than 5 meters from the crosswalk there are 2 things that i can do:
1. if i don't have time to pass and there is the risk to hit the pedestian i brake as hard i can
2. if they are still 1 lane apart and i have time to pass with out any risk for me or pedestian i just pass (will saing "sorry" to pedestrian). It is illegal but is better than exposing me to the risk of being hit by a car behind me
tl:dr : he didn't put anyone at risk by passing on the yellow light but he might been rear ended if he suddently brake
@@MsOpportunity68 They need to stop changing the rules. Red means stop. Everyone knows that.
@@The_Gallowglass Red means stop, but amber also means stop, " unless it is unsafe to do so". Amber does not mean I have time to get through the lights if I speed up. This has been in the highway code for at least the last decade or so.
You ran a green light, and the camera footage you have shows this
The footage clearly shows a red
Nah he crossed in amber. if you look at 0:30 it changes from green to amber before he reaches the lights
then it changes from amber to red at 0:33 by which time he has already passed the initial lights and therefore clear
