This is just a horrible design flaw. This shouldn’t be blamed on cyclist specifically. Pedestrian traffic and bike traffic should not impede one another within a confined space, such as this example.
We should 100% blame the cyclists. Why don't we blame the more dangerous road users that are endangering pedestrians? Cyclists are supposed to stop or slow down. If they don't, they are 100% wrong. Why does it seem so hard for people to realize cyclists can also be entitled asshats?
How many pedestrians have been killed when hit by a cyclist? The most dangerous road users are vehicles. Of course cyclists can be asshats. Sometimes they don’t stop or slow down, which the same can be said for vehicle traffic as well. This isn’t even debatable. This isn’t a binary issue, everyone can do better.
By listening to this young man, I am confident that cyclists all around the world must stop for pedestrians, also those with aid such as cane, walkers, or electric wheelchair. Cyclists need to watch for these cross signs and stop or walk the bike!
Yes, I find that funny. Car drivers speed all the time and rarely does anyone bat an eyelid. But a cyclist trundles through a zebra crossing at 12mph and suddenly it's the worst thing ever! wor
The cops should be issuing tickets to the cyclists. They are road users, and are supposed to comply with the highway code; it's purely selfish and dangerous behaviour by a large number of cyclists.
Can I just say look at the sheer volume of people moving through that cycle lane, compared to the number of people the road is moving next to them. I admit the cyclists behaviour is not great. But it's to be expected from a nation that does not yet have an established bike culture. We need some enforcement and I also think the crossing might be hard to spot for cyclists too - Especially if behind another cyclist.
So let's not put any responsibility on the cyclists to stick to the laws of the road???as most of them don't....🤔start fining them as motorists get fined!!!!!!!!!!
And also how do cyclists get fined when they hit vehicles causing damage as not stopping at a give way, zebra crossing or lights. They hot vehicles knock off the side mirror and ride off then without looking turn right fall on top of a vehicle causing the windscreen to crack in more then 1 place, cause bonnet and wing damage, then get up and ride off when the driver has been left on the road with a damaged or even a write off. Yes I have seen 2 of these incidents happen whilst I've been walking from work. The cyclist will get away and motorist has to pay up himself, insurance will then raise his premiums if they go through insurance and then leave them without a vehicle and cause them much distress.
There's plenty of crossings like these on cycle lanes. So are cyclists always riding up each others back side? That's safe also isn't it? That's done in the tour de France, that's racing just like drivers driving so close behind another vehicle
Bikes should be on the road but this is too dangerous for many riders due to crap drivers and the obsession with traffic moving at 30mph, where mostly the average is less than the average speed of the bikes , its just the bits where drivers can accelerate hard . Obviously junctions are particularly dangerous.
Cyclists don't like to stop because of slow acceleration on restart. Dutch cycle lanes are designed to minimize bike stopping. But this London problem is tricky. I guess there needs to be some kind of automatic signal triggered by the bus. But it's a good problem to have. As bike riding continues to increase to where it's the dominant use of the road it will be prioritized over other uses.
It's not a good problem to have. What the f. How about cyclists just stop?? Who cares about the slow restart? These pedestrians are already slow and are slowed down EVEN more due to these entitled cyclists. This way of thinking reeks of cyclist entitlement.
Most of these comments suggest implementing other physical features to the crossing/lane such as barriers or lights or bumps. The zebra crossing is already there, it needn't require any more added to it, it should already be being obeyed by these ignorant cyclists.
@@mikewade777 Ive never heard of a car driver successfully suing a pedestrian that theyve hit on a zebra crossing, i doubt a cyclist would stand much chance either.

Cyclists get angry quickly? Rightfully so, anyone who cycles on the roads in the U.K. would understand why, we’ve easily some of the worst / most entitled drivers their is, it’s like we spent years giving out licences in cereal boxes
Cyclists are the biggest single danger to pedestrians - going through red lights, riding on the pavement, generally reckless conduct. A disabled friend was recently run over by a cyclist on the pavement and quite seriously hurt. When will the police and authorities take this plague of dangerous cycling in hand?
Absolute codswallop. Look up how many pedestrians are killed each year by people driving cars, and by people riding bikes, then try saying that again with a straight face...
The department of transport laughs at disabled people. I should ask them for the recording when they laughed at me for reporting heavy bicycles left in the middle of pavement. He actually laughed and hanged the phone up. That was a sign for me that day to give up the fight. Unfortunately it’s the disabled and less able bodied people that will suffer. Such a sad situation. The decline of this society in all aspects of life truly shines.
@@TheTraveller20081 A favour? Most cyclists are a bane of everyone else's existance. Pedestirans, cars, hell even helicopters probably find them annoying. A vast majority think that because they're on a bike (saving the environment, easing congestion, whatever excuse they justify it with) they are automatically correct in everything, and never have to observe the same rules as they should have priority.
I never realised they were mean to stop at them. The idea seems laughable, getting cyclists to stop at anytime, for decency or laws or anything like that. They are on a big metal object with head protection, they wont be hurt if they just keep going.
Maybe it's because of those pedestrians who can't tell the difference between the footpath and the cycle lane, that makes some cyclists think 'sod em, I'm not stopping'. However the whole concept of these zebra crossings on a cycle lane is flawed. There's no signs or advance markings for them, as you'd find on a full-size crossing. I certainly wouldn't be sure that was actually a crossing point if I hadn't seen it before.
Except the bike path does not have a zebra crossing, it’s just some stripes painted on the road, technically they don’t actually mean anything. As a cyclist (12k miles pa) it’s disappointing to see cyclists not paying attention to the volumes of pedestrians though and irrespective of the loony traffic management system. I think this is more indicative of the ‘London mentality’ where everyone thinks they are so important others safety is secondary.
Give these cyclists an inch, and they’ll take a mile, I just watched a video about sadistic khans right hand man, who got punched by another cyclist, cos he challenged him about not stopping at a zebra crossing! Standards in the uk are dropping hard
Never seen a zebra with only two stripes... maybe that's the problem? Also, other issue is that cyclists don't know who is waiting for the bus... and who wants to cross. Poorly planned.
They're not zebra crossings, zebra crossings have a big amber flashing light on either side of the crossing, they're just a raised bit of tarmac with a bit of paint on it
This is clearly never going to work. It’s not a popular point to make but it is also hazardous for cyclists. Probably the answer is actually a tunnel that goes underneath major crossings so there is no meeting of bikes and pedestrians. I understand the anger at cyclists but this is as much an engineering flaw as anything else.
Cyclists must have a way of being identified, as are motor vehicles. Insurance too and a contribution towards road fund. Unfortunately, it does appear a majority of cyclists that have no regard to pedestrian safety and have an arrogance that their mode of transport elevates them to a higher plane.
i think the problem is how fast the superhighways are, i regularly use cs2 (shown here) and while i do try to stop where i can, it would probably cause a cycle crash if someone stopped especially with the number of cyclists there are at rush hour. the cycle lanes are simultaneously slow and fast (due to all the traffic lights on route) but a suitable solution to this would probably installing mini traffic lights that pedestrians can push similar to a puffin, this would reduce a lot of the risk for blind and less able pedestrians but also make cyclists more inclined to stop. again, as someone who cycles and walks this route regularly, it has a lot of benefits but this is probably the major drawback
Nope. It's the cars that are a threat to pedestrians and cyclists, and they're always in the way, and the the air pollution they cause is a threat everyone.
@@olddeuteranomaly5112 Wouldn't casualties be reduced if less cyclists were roaming the streets? Cars are far safer to travel with. Check the insurance statistics. 75% of accidents happen with involvement of cyclists! If they disappeared many problems would be solved. A no brainier.

This is a design flaw. Just like the width of a road that dictates the rate of speed it is comfortable to drive. Requiring bikes and pedestrians to interact in a tight space is just dangerous. The cyclists need a separate lane that minimizes any conflict with the bus route and those entering and exiting the bus.

Exactly.
It also affects the normal unassuming passenger who regularly have to navigate dangerous cyclists.
As opposed to the completely harmless fast moving metal boxes that cause the vast majority of traffic deaths?

The humanity!!!
It puts all pedestrians at risk.
They're not zebra crossings, zebra crossings have a big amber flashing light on either side of the crossing, they're just a raised bit of tarmac with a bit of paint on it
Wrong, they are legally zebra crossings - the zigzag lines and Belisha beacons are not required on cycle tracks.
its a design fault
Bycicles should banned from cities. They pose a threat to pedestrians and cars alike.
