I've had a white one for a while now, and I really like it. Still looks new and is very accurate (+10 per day). I put it on a nice gray Blu shark premium nato strap, and it looks great. I own several Hamilton watches and I love them, but I wouldn't hesitate recommending the Timex to someone looking for a mechanical field watch.
Alton, nice new format, like the graphics and good photography too. Nice review. I already have the Khaki field and love it. So not in the market for this one but it looks like an interesting alternative. Best wishes from Scotland!
Hey, Chris. Thanks a lot my friend. I appreciate it. I've been trying out different formats lately and I really liked doing this one a lot. The Hamilton is a classic and a great choice. Cheers!
Thanks, man. 👍 👍 Ya it is a good watch and even if they'd put more thought into the seconds hand and maybe given the dial some texture or something, it could have been a great watch for 229.
I've owned both watches. The 50m water resistance, lack of sapphire and poor accuracy killed the Hamilton for me. Mine ran at around +14 seconds while the Timex still runs at +6 which, fir a cheap Chinese movement is very good.
Amazon now at $129. Do you still think Hamilton is a good deal? I can buy 3.5 watches and this may out last Hamilton watch if you truely using it as field watch
As a khaki mechanical owner I’m jealous of the screw down crown. Still don’t know why they won’t do it. The water resistance is one piece, but a little more security for the large crown would be a good idea
For how long do you have the Khaki Mechanical? Is it the version with the H-50 movement and 80h Power reserve? I'm on the edge of buying one but the issues with the Winding mechanism broken even hours after taking it out of the box sets me back a lot.
Caught you on tonights live stream tonight, and came over. Honestly I think you would be better off going quartz with Timex, maybe a few exceptions. I also have the Hamilton Navy in blue with small seconds, I love the watch, worth the money and looks great. I heard you talk about Secondhour watches, might be the next watch I get.
I wish they would have done the solar version in 38mm. I just picked one up, and the 36mm is wearable but a bit small for my taste. Even on my 6 7/8" wrist. 38mm would've been perfect.
Good review. I own a 40mm Hamilton Khaki, but I found it too nice to wear fishing and camping…. I just can’t do it! So I have ordered one of these as a “beater” watch, which I think will fit the bill nicely. Sure, I could use a quartz…. but there’s a mystical allure to mechanical movements….
I have the solar quartz timex expedition I got for about 170 USD and would say it’s one of the best beater watches you could grab. I was tempted by the mechanical ones but I knew I wanted the reliability of quartz for those days I know my watch is gonna go through the ringer
Do you have the Khaki Mechanical with the H-50 movement and 80h Power reserve? For how long do you have it? Have you had any problem with the Winding mechanism breaking?
@@TGameMaster1993 I've had it for a couple of years now and still love it. No issues from my end with the winding mechanism. I've actually reviewed my own on my channel, but for the money I can see the Timex being a viable alternative.
Im just going to go ahead and get the short Hamilton , thanks for the awesome review. Cheap Chinese movement. Hands to short. nah ill just get the real thing.
Alton, great review. Why no date? Date is so important to me. Secondly, 38mm is a bit too small for me. Make t a 42mm and I might be a bit more interested! Not worth the money to be honest. Lune is poor. I can think of better watches to buy at that price.
Sometimes those short second hands on watches like this are cuz the original vintage piece they're based on had those lengths, I'm not sure if that's the case here..
Thank you for a good and honest review, certainly a good looking watch but way over priced IMO, and as for not telling me what to buy 'cos' your not my dad , I'm probably old enough to be your dad LOL...stay safe
I believe this is definitely over priced, at the very most I see $120 -150 and that's a wee bit of a stretch considering the fact you may want to replace the seconds hand....🏴⌚🏴⌚
We're they into watches? If not they could have thrown it into a bag with headphones or left them by a speaker etc where they could have been magnetized. I'd grab a cheap demagnatizer off amazon and try that. You are making sure it is fully wound, right?
Why people feel the need to over evaluate a watch? What do you get for paying all that amount of money? Literally, very little benefits! A watch will always remain a watch, no matter if it's cheap or expensive( I'm refering here about cheap know brands, not fake ones) !
A chinese made timex with a 30 dollar movement is not a Hamilton killer. i rather go to e-bay and find a hamilton field for 350 brand new swiss made watch with an 80 hour reserve.
Hello Half Past Blog. Problem with the Timex Mechanical expedition North, is that the movement is chinese, a knockoff that is non serviceable. its just a cheap Seagull movement, and not something that will hold up many years.
I just bought the blue same version watch today at amazon for $94, for that price it is incredible.

Thanks, man. 👍 👍 Ya it is a good watch and even if they'd put more thought into the seconds hand and maybe given the dial some texture or something, it could have been a great watch for 229.
You're upping your game big time Alton. Awesome video 👍
Thanks Bob. 🙏🙏🙏
In addition to my comment below, the sapphire crystal is very very thick, which is a nice touch. Some watches have paper, thin crystals.
It’s awesome. Timex is killing it. I got the solar version yesterday. Epic. I don’t know why you’re whining about the leather strap. It’s perfect.
I love to whine.

How old was it? As far as I know all Hamiltons today come with sapphire. Ya... 50m is unfortunate

Right? Throw some AR on that crystal and increase the WR and you've got a nearly perfect everyday watch.

I love this watch and may be getting one after my next seiko mod. My bet is Sea Gull 17 jewels st-36?
I saw a video where someone took the back off and showed the movement but for the life of me I don't recall who.
Another great review Alton....love the look of the watch...but I spotted the seconds hand straight away....it's way way way too short!
What were they thinking, right? Thanks so much, Gareth!

38 is a great size for most people.

Ha ha. Yes there is.
I too have a Hamilton field that I baby. The bezel just scratches so easily!
Where did you get that yellow desk clock?! So cool!
Amazon. 👍👍
Great video bro Timex does has better bang for sure but non the less great watch!
Well said, P Ross. Well said. 👍

Kinda wish I'd gone quartz.
Very enjoyable review and a fair assessment. I'm already subscribed, but I hope others do for the sake of your ego 😁
Bahahaha thank you! I need all the emotional support I can get. 👍
Fantastic review I love the honesty
Thanks for all the support, Kevin. 👍 👍 👍 👍
I love my Hammy, but watch the lug length if you have a sub-7inch wrist 👍
I was going to point that out as a positive but forgot. The hammy isn't friendly to two piece straps or small wrists.

Thanks! It is actually a Seiko travel world timer clock. Got mine at mywristcheck.com.
that was a really helpful video thank you
I'm really glad. You are most welcome.
Is there a solar version of this white dial?
Im just going to go ahead and get the short Hamilton , thanks for the awesome review.
Cheap Chinese movement.

I can too.
The watch that inspired it didn't have a date so I think they were remaining true. Same for the size. It wore a bit small for me too.
Sometimes those short second hands on watches like this are cuz the original vintage piece they're based on had those lengths, I'm not sure if that's the case here..
That could be. Good thought. 👍
The tinny movement inside comes with some maximal specs for the innertia of the hands it can drive. And since the movement is very tinny itself...

That seconds hand is definitely going to be a deal breaker for many. It definitely stands out to me.
I got this timex field post mechanical and it looses 5 mins an hour. :(
Could be magnatized. Can you return it?
@@halfpastblog I bought it second hand from someone who got it as a present. Is there nothing else?

@@halfpastblognot really, I’ll give that a try. Yes it’s fully wound
@@halfpastblog thanks for the help!
The Seakoss movement just stops. Shake it and it will start again. When running it's five minutes late a day.
My guess is that if it's five minutes late per day then it's not wound enough or has been magnetized.
Good honest review man. Thank u
You are most welcome. 👍 👍
Nice g1 Optimus prime ☺
Ha ha Thanks brother.

As a watch reviewer that's kinda what I do. 🤔😂
What's the power reserve on this please?
Around 40 hours.
@@halfpastblog Thanks

I agree.
Hamilton watch are not all that to me and doesn’t take much to beat them IMHO.
They lack a lot for a filed watch.
👍
Hamiltons really aren't anything special. I'd have the Timex, particularly in blue.
👍👍
Brass case
Stainless steel
Not this one
That watch worth at least worth $80 as the movement is unknown Chinese cheap quality.
Definitely wish they would be up front about what's inside.
Vaer is the Hamilton killer , timex is a wannabe.
Vaer does make a great alternative. 👍 👍
Thanks for the hot tip - still an expensive option, but date does add something hamilton is missing.
Hello Half Past Blog. Problem with the Timex Mechanical expedition North, is that the movement is chinese, a knockoff that is non serviceable. its just a cheap Seagull movement, and not something that will hold up many years.
You might be right about that. Timex needs to provide more movement info.
