  • On this episode we review the latest exciting release from The Timex Corporation. Part of their recent Expedition North series, the Field Post Mechanical was definitely a standout from the lineup for me, offering clean military field watch aesthetics, a hacking and handwinding mechanical movement, and an anti-reflective coated Sapphire crystal, in a very affordable $200ish price range. Although not a perfect watch, still a very compelling offering for sure. Stay tuned until the end for bonus footage where I compare to some of it's closest competitors from Seiko 5, BOLDR, and of course Hamilton, thanks guys!

    Buyer beware. I bought one of these. It’s a great size with great case proportions. However, within 24 hours of receiving the watch and wearing it, the crown popped out when I went to reset the time. I gently reseated the crown and now the watch won’t wind.
    Before that happened, the crown didn’t reliably hack the movement. It would work sometimes and not others. When pulling the crown out to the hack position, the minute hand would often jump a few minutes forward or backward. Same occurred when pressing the crown back to the wind position. This made it hard to accurately set the time.
    No idea a what the movement is, but it beats at 21,600 and was giving me +11spd at a 270deg amplitude on the Timegrapher. I wanted to like this watch, but no movement and crown should have these issues so I’m returning it to Timex.

      Not surprised by that, that movement looks like the absolute cheapest Chinese movement timex could find. A watchmaker probably won't even work on it so it's ready for the garbage in about 5 years if it even makes it that far. At this price that's absolutely unacceptable, they could've easily fitted a hand wound miyota in it for not much more.

    Another brilliant video Mark, as always! Man, I REALLY wanted to love this Timex as i'm crushing the field watch vibe right now but can't find the right piece! I want: sapphire crystal, minimum 100m WR (sadly takes out the gorgeous Hammy mechanical and LOTS of other field watches - why are so many 50m???), drilled lugs, 38-40mm, not too thick (say sub 11.5mm), ideally some kind of military vibe and decent lume. You wouldn't think that was too hard to ask for when i'm open to quartz or mechanical BUT I'm really struggling mate! Any ideas? I have considered Bertucci (very cool but is there any heritage), the RZE resolute (stunning, but not a classic field watch vibe), Hammy (poor WR), Vaer (36mm too small and hear their 40mm wears large - plus again is there enough heritage/is it just a direct copy of the Hammy?), Boldr (you suggested their wears really small), CWC (prob too small and poor WR) and now this Timex (poor movement and lume). I lust after the Vertex M100 but can one justify #2.5k on a field watch? Love the Monta Triumph (in grey) and Oak and Oscar Olmsted (i think again in grey) but they're also pretty pricey and i get clobbered 20% on top for VAT import into UK. The Tudor Ranger Heritage is too large and the historic one too small - ARGH!!!!! What am i missing bro??? I need your help

      I can just add to your list that Boldr venture sand storm (White dial) has a very poor lume. It seems that the other version, with a white lume, have a decent light, but the yellow lume...forget it.

Given the no name movement I think I'll pass For less money, you can get an Islander field watch with a reliable NH-38 Japanese work horse movement. For another hundred bucks, you can get a Hamilton Khaki Field (gray market).

      How is a watch that is automatic, thicker, with a mineral crystal, and 30m of water resistance at all comparable to this? You can't compare this at all to the Bulova Hack.

    • @JR-gp2zk
      @JR-gp2zk 2 роки тому +1

      @@caomhan84 true the Timex has a cheap chinese Seagull movement and the Bulova has a japanese Myota automatic movement for less money. Or for just $100 more you can get a swiss made Hamilton. The Timex should be selling for under $200.

    • @caomhan84
      @caomhan84 2 роки тому +2

      @@JR-gp2zk You're really going to quibble over $29? Look, it's not comparable at all to the Bulova Hack. You can't compare automatics to hand-wind mechanicals. Second, if you want to compare specs it has superior specs.
      Now it's not comparable to the movement in the Hamilton. I'm not going to argue that. But the movement that's in it is fine. I have several of the mechanical Marlins and it's a fine, reasonably accurate movement. And honestly they've built it very well. I was surprised when I opened the box. This is the sort of thing they should have been doing all along with their automatics in the Marlin line. This thing makes their automatic Marlins look ridiculously overpriced. Those watches are made out of thin steel cases, the movement rattles, they have an acrylic crystal and the finishing isn't great. So I hope that this watch is a sign of things to come. Now that they've proven they can make it.
      Of course, there is also nothing wrong with the miyota movement in the Bulova. It's an old movement and it's a workhorse. But it's also $15 if you're going to buy it on its own. That it's not too much of a difference between the Chinese movement in this watch.
