There is another Timex field watch being released on the 5th that has those exact features (Miyota 8000 hacking and hand wind). It also has 200m w/screwdown crown.
i thought these watches were assembled primarily in Philippines since they have their own manufacturing plant there? maybe only the movement is china-made
I would get one if it had any Japanese made automatic, but the Chinese made movement is a deal killer for me. I would pay more if a basic Swiss movement was used. Thank you Chris for your great review 👍
Yeah I'm looking forward to the James Brand if they're coming out with because that's getting a hacking in hand winding Miyota. It's in titanium and it's over $300 but I think it's a good one
@@WatchChris Hopefully they release a non special edition version with the same specs in the future. 500 is going to go quick. Bulova and Timex is on a tear lately.
Seagull is a good chinese brand. Everybody is looking to get the Seagull 1963 military chronograpgh. At this price point it is a brilliant move for timex. Seagull from China is good so would have a Vostok from Russia. Best ebauches at that price point.
Oh the dial fits fine on an ETA 2801 and it fits nicely in the case, just need to get a crown stem that fits and loctite it to the Timex crown. The plastic movement spacer can be cut down with an exacto knife to fit the larger movement.
Add solar dial & Indiglo to a mechanical watch?Impossible! Solar is essentially quartz powered by optical rechargeable battery. And Indiglo also needs to be powered by battery. But mechanical watches use parts and gears, and don't use batteries.
I like where they're going with this one. This may sound crazy, but I wish Timex would find a way to add the indiglo feature on this to address the lume issue. Maybe with a solar panel ? Saphir crystal, 10 ATM and indiglo? I'd pay $300 or so for it ! Thanks for the review Chris!❤
I agree. Maybe find some real estate to add a battery/capacitor (rechargeable cell from solar) just for the Indiglo. Maybe if this one is popular that could be a great v2.
Seagull is respectable movement. I am hell bent in acquiring the Seagull 1963 military chronograpgh watch. that is a gem. Everyone us buying that bad boy. Seagull quality has imoroved. Back to this tinex. But as with any mechanical watch, the big question is accuracy. In this case, I’m happy to report that the Field Post (and its 23-jewel Sea-Gull TY6DSK-1 movement) averaged just plus-6 seconds per day.
Same here. I already got the Expedition Scout Solar with the back PVD brass case - it has a Seiko/Epson movement and is one of my most accurate quartz watches in any price range. I'd pick the solar one over the mechanical every day. And the Timex models with Miyota 82XX movements are way overpriced for what they offer. But a solar Timex with sapphire and steel case for just over 100 € looks like a sweet deal.
The question is: does Seagull bad? I know it has cheap strap and buckle. But Seagull movement is reliable and is in the same par with the Japaneses' in the term of price point....
Nice vid Chris, very well done and informative. As to the Timex, I'm not sure about the price, I mean, as you stated, the VAER is a better watch and even some micro brands and homages are better quality and give you more for less. Timex is been bringing back some of their back catalogs, and cashing on nostalgia. The price is a bit stiff for a Sea-Gull movement, so I'm guessing they are charging a lot for the sapphire crystal and their partnership with Expedition North. Well, either way, I'm sure the price will go down eventually as it is a Timex. Anyway, keep up the great work!
I think it's a decent price I just wish it had a slightly better strap/buckle and also better lume other than that it's a good watch for the price. I think they had the opportunity to blow the competition out of the water and they're on the way to doing that but they still need to make slight improvements
@@WatchChris I would agree with you on the price if there was no other choices for the same type of watch that offer more for less. Nevertheless, it is nice that Timex is trying to at least bring some nice models to the market.
Great facts! Didn’t even know timex made auto or mechanical watches! Glad this popped up on the list to watch! Gonna pass on this model, it looks great but the they’re asking way too much for too little….I’ll wait it out to see if the price goes down as you suggested!
Seiko has the SRPG series. You can easily get them for 200 on Amazon. No brainer to me. Timex has been releasing great looking models, but way overpriced for what they offer. Makes no sense asking almost 200 for the Q, for the new GMTs, for the Marlin Hand Wound with the Chinese movement etc
Firstly I really appreciate this review.. Thankyou Chris! I'd like to know is this a hackable movement? Now here comes the bitching... Timex has done it again! They are poised to be dominant in the market with a.beautiful watch offering and shoot themselves in the foot . Its so frustrating because in my heart I have always loved Timex but can't justify spending a couple hundred on their higher tier watches that consistently fall short of where they should be. Chris IF you are accurate in saying that the seagull movement is a throwaway rather then a service movement then there goes the whole concept of the North line which is supposed to be environmentally friendly with less waste. As someone else mentioned here Indiglo should be added to this watch via solar power or rechargeable battery. Lastly this product should be made in the USA not overseas. It's high time that our legacy companies come home and offer American made products to American consumers and the world.
Does this need to be initially charged in the sun? I can't find any info on their site and have received two watches that are not ticking upon opening the box.
I bought one of these and the crown and stem popped out within 24 hours of receiving the watch. All I did was pull the crown out to the set position to change the time. This is unacceptable at any price and I’m returning the watch as defective. Timex has done better for me in the past, but this has me feeling gun-shy about the brand going forward.
Yup Hamilton is still the king of field watches this is Chinese crap. You can even get the quartz Hamilton khaki for below 300 and it's a much better watch than these I mean they have been around forever, these have not.
One thing for sure, there's a huge difference in the price. However, the movement on my Timex constantly stopped. All I have to do is shake it and it would start again. Probably the pallet fork, too cheep to spend any time smoothing it out. The movement is Chinese by the way, same as the Seakoss, neet looking but too cheep.
Wow. The mechanical watches you can get from China that beat this in every way is obscene. It is very hard to compete. You can get a micro rotor auto 8ml thick with sapphire for less than this. What do we do?
I was in the market for a mechanical watch recently and considered getting one but then I remembered it's made in China so I got the Bulova Hack instead. It's good to avoid China products when possible. Sometimes it can't be helped with things like smart phones, but when it comes to watches I'll gladly go with Japan over China every single time. Wow, hey this is pretty cool. When I open up my made in China watch, you can see the initials of the person who made the watch inside and it even has a little etching that says "Help". Oh wait, that's not good...

Indiglo needs to use battery electricity.
