Hey you Pokémon Collecting maniacs!! If you're in the market for some awesome Pokémon merch check out the BRAND NEW WEBSITE PIKAPIKAPAPA.COM! This is just the beginning too as we have lots of new stuff coming soon. Thank you for the support and have an awesome one!
I'll be interested to watch how these move over time. In my mind none of these are "old" so it will be festinating to see if they get some attention as the years go by!!
Love this Idea, would you do this in sealed products a well? Like modern and vintage equivalent, and which one has greater growth potential. you could also add japanese sets into the mix.
I am a investor so that means modern only as vintage has been priced out for a long time.. no reason to cash someone out on a vintage card just to hold it and hope someone cash’s you out some day. Modern all the way..
I'm not getting away from modern that's for sure but it's a very interesting space that I'm gonna do some more digging into. Usually finding high quality overlooked areas give you a chance at some outsized returns. I've loved the feedback from this video as most are modern all the way! Buying what is out of favor, as long as it's quality, vs what the masses are going after is always an interesting space to do some digging into!! LOVE this feedback and I appreciate it my friend!!
@@PikaPikaPapa New video topic.. Are we chasing Art or Grade rates? All based on S&V and mostly how SWSH was all art with little to no grade rate problems.. But in S&V we are chasing some art but the pricing are climbing based off gem rates.. That was a rough way of describing the video but you get the idea..
@@PikaPikaPapa also Sleeper cards in S&V… we have plenty of slept on cards.. no doubt Raichu and tyranitar are headed up but several are not being spoken about like ninetails, chi-yu, pidgeotto.. Erica’s invitation… No doubt your on track to being a big channel.. keep it up..
Great video! I'm also curious on the liquidity of many of these cards. Lower pop doesn't necessarily mean more desirable. To this video's point though, I generally avoid vintage because I view it as out of my price range. Meanwhile, I'm looking at many of the modern cards you showcased here. I THINK my goal is growth, but liquidity is important to me. I stopped buying sealed collection boxes and tins for the same reason. We as collectors remember to search for buzz words like "ETB" or "booster box". Many don't remember "cyclizar ex collection box" from the beginning of the current era or an "iron treads ex tin". Side note - genuinely enjoy your content. It gets me thinking about not only how to grow a collection I enjoy, but how to keep it practical and scale out into areas I typically don't play in.
Yeah really good call out on the need to be able to sell whatever you have into waiting arms in the future!! I always try and remind myself that I'm a long term collector and it's hard to gauge what the market liquidity will look like 5+ years from now. Quality and exclusivity rarely go out of style so if the hobby continues to grow maybe some of these will grow with it! Love the call out on remembering "BUZZ" words I think that's a really smart add!! Have an awesome weekend my friend!!
I'd take the vintage side on all of these matchups, except the Umbreon. I think the Moonbreon is so iconic everyone will want that in their collection. I personally love the Espeon Vmax Alt more, but the demand is there for the moon.
I was in awe when i found out that 1st edition Light Wigglytuff from Neo Destiny has an extremely low pop of psa10: 68 cards!! Psa9:122 cards. For the range of 60-80$ I know its not a banger but its still vintage and an extremely rare find.
Great video...thanks!! You make a good point on the Giratina V. On the same theme, the Blaziken VMax and the Giratina V Alt Arts (include the Celebi V here) have no "vintage" sister card, so I believe they should carry a "no vintage" premium. The Beedrill V also has a "vintage" sister card, and I think the Alt Art is slept on because it is a Gen 1 Pokemon. Enjoy Orlando!
Really cool call out on the others!!! I didn't even think to look beyond the Giratina!! We might have some all time great art work and hadn't even realized it yet!! Awesome comment my friend, I really appreciate it!!
I think the moonbreon is more akin to the base set unlimited charizard in an 8 or 9. In particular, the populations of both are really close together. I’d say in maybe 5-10 years when the hype is mostly gone the two cards will probably be around the same value. With the moonbreon in a 10 having a premium due to the 10 grade and possibly more nostalgia. Way way way into the future, it’s hard to say but the two should be almost equal. In fact you could possibly extrapolate the base set zard population:price comparison to all the SWSH alt arts.
That Moonbreon is a very VERY special card that's for sure, we might not see another card like that for quite some time!! I like the comparison here and it will be a ton of fun to watch and see how it playes out!! Really cool comment here my friend!! Thank you!!
Great video as usual! I would love more vintage content. I love vintage but I feel it's a trickier market. You are basically forced to buy graded because there are so many fakes and grading raw vintage in 2024 is so risky...
I had a ton of fun with this one and I have another one on older cards coming out next week!! I agree it's a bit of a trickier space so graded cards might be the way to go... More to come my friend!!
Another video to add to the epicness! This channel is one of my top favorites to look forward to. I hope one day I get to meet you in person if you ever travel to other states for some cons or some convention.
Appreciate this more then I can say my friend!! I usually do Collect A Con in Orlando and Charlotte but you never know where else we might end up!! I appreciate the support and I hope you have an EPIC one!!
I will one day hopefully make it down to Florida again. I live in Pennsylvania and I want to travel around to different conventions. And anytime man, I ain't going anywhere. Haha
I guess I view it similar to the way Nostalgia Nomics views it. The vintage has already had massive appreciation. And this hobby for better or worse is very popularity driven. And a lot of popularity shifts around. I think vintage will always hold a special place in this hobby and I reckon it will make slow steady gains over time. I think modern has greater upside potential but is also probably more volatile as well. I do think there are just way more people hunting modern chases from SwSh and S&V than vintage. I was a kid in the 90’s when Pokemon came out so the old stuff will always hold a special place in my heart. But I think a lot of younger generations don’t care as much because they don’t have the nostalgia for it. There will always be people who like older things that predated them but the Pokemon space seems to be especially driven by hype for what was around when collectors themselves were kids. I could see in 20 years SwSh absolutely exploding as a bunch of kids now grown up go back and want psa 10’s of those alt art and trainer galleries they didn’t get as a kid but wanted. 11k moonbreons might just be way too small for how enormous this market has gotten. I think I struggle to even comprehend how big the Pokemon tcg space has become. Fun thought experiment. Moonbreon has a pull rate of about 1:1666 packs. If each of those packs was an average of $4 (which is probably low since so many packs were opened up as evolving skies increased in price) then that means $73.3 million dollars were spent opening all the PSA 10 moonbreon’s alone (11,000 psa 10s X 1666 packs X $4). And that’s probably a fraction of the moonbreon’s in existence. Danny Phantump made rough calculations on how many alt arts were printed in a video he posted last year. He predicted over 100k copies of Moonbreon. That means a minimum of $667 million in evolving skies alone (some of that would still be sealed). The amount of money in this hobby is absolutely staggering. It all makes me think 11k pop is nothing for a card that popular. I guess time will tell if it stays popular but I have a hunch it will.
Awesome comment, I really appreciate this one!! I didn't epact such strong thoughts and opinions on vintage but I am pumped to get them all!!! I'm 100% committed to doing my own Vintage Vs Modern video here in the next few weeks!! You, as usually, have hit a big nail on the head here with your money spent on Moonbreon analysis and I think that's super powerful. The money being spent on Pokemon is just staggering and something all of us investor/collectors should be excited about!! I'm gonna work on my own Vintage Vs Modern video and I can't wait to share it with you all!! Hope you have an epic weekend my friend and as always I appreciate you!!

Funny thing... When I hear that, it makes my investing spidy senses pop! I'm going back to the data cave for more research LOL!! Appreciate you my friend!!
I think modern sets are way better than vintage, I also would never spend the kind of money required to buy vintage, like who has that kind of money???

LOL!!! When the camera is on you gotta keep it together :)
At these prices ? Of course buy vintage. When vintage was expensive i bought modern. Which is now at ATH. Pretty simple.
Buy opposite of market rotation... lots of people have made lots of money following that plan!! You are wise beyond your years my friend!!
@@PikaPikaPapa lost 36k in Crypto when im 20 years old was a good way of gaining wisdom hahaha
What’s your take on modern Japanese boxes at msrp prices? Considering the drop in prices… people sleeping on easy gains in the future?
Never by vintage. There’s no room for profit

Great video idea. The only vintage one in this vid that I would buy over the modern contender is the Magikarp. Shining Magikarp is a legendary card
Not gonna lie, when I got done putting this together I put that Magikarp card on my dream list... it's STUNNING!! Appreciate you my friend!!
I don't buy vintage for gains, I buy them for my personal collection.
LOVE this take!!! I think what's really cool is in the long run you'll get plenty of gains to go along with the really cool cards!!
@@PikaPikaPapa sure gains are welcomed, but if the return on my vintage slabs are inflation adjusted, than I am already happy.

The karp becomes a 1k plus card paldea evolved booster boxes gain value tremendously
