You know what I liked about this video most? There was no sarcastic undertone you usually have in the last several months... no drama, nothing regarding what other poketubers are saying. It was just pure information which is why I started watching you in the first place. Very refreshing and I hope your videos continue to be like this one!
I hear you. I appreciate that. Now that I no longer follow any of the other poketubers that shouldn't be a problem to keep that kind of stuff out of the vids 😁
Obviously, I prefer vintage. However, this was a fair, logical, and well-articulated analysis. 👍
Appreciate it brother. Also, both can do well and we can all win. Doesn't have to be a winner or loser. I wish the vintage + singles and slabs market the best going forward!
Agreed. I think one of the points that you articulated well that often gets lost in debate, is the active vs. passive nature of the two approaches too. Some (like me) really enjoy the process of sourcing, optimizing, and selling singles/slabs, while others may not enjoy it, have the time, or have the experience necessary. That's one of the reasons boxes don't appeal to me as much (they don't scratch the collector itch in the same way) . . . but that's just a personal preference. Like I said though, a lot of great points and consideration in here! @@NostalgiaNomics
Hey I get it man. Moving around a bunch of cardboard boxes isn't the same as a bunch of cards that you enjoy. Not even close!
You raise a lot of good points. I was really apprehensive about putting money into modern sealed product due to how high the output is on Pokemon Co's part, and the question of whether they'd still be desirable or scarce in years to come. But you're right, modern sealed products can be collected at reasonable price points, and odds are in 20 years the kids that grew up with for example SWSH will have enough wealth and nostalgia to get some booster boxes at a higher cost.
Plus I'm banking on current sealed "investors" ripping into their own collections and reducing availability 😈
Ya I hear you there. It is not easy for people to keep things sealed and hold it a long period of time.
You got that right. People caving in and demolishing sealed collections daily. Most people who think they arr building a sealed collection are only kidding themselves. Anyone who has spent years in the hobby as a collector will find it nearly impossible to build and maintain a sealed collection without eventually caving to the craving and curiosity and ripping it to shreads. I suspect for every one successful sealed collection that's built there is at least 99 others that failed.
I def liked what you had to say here - there is a great point in if you are just starting - modern is the way to go. With time and more funds to invest - one can start to dabble in the vintage :)
Excellent talking points, enjoyed the genuine facts explained throughout
People would say, "oh but the supply of vintage sealed is already reducing in numbers more than modern sealed"
Yeah they are. But the price creep of vintage sealed has alrd reached to a point where you're bound to make more percentage gains off of a $100 box over 5 years. I could be wrong, but thats just my thoughts for all those pro vintage bois out there, but I completely agree on ur point man. Modern sealed for life 😅
Great advice again Alex. I do mostly sealed, but singles are also a great investment.
idk why but every time i hear "FFFOLKS! WELCOME TOOO...NOSTALLLGIANOMICS!!" i feel so happy upbeat and excited, you saying it with such a burst of energy
Hey I appreciate that. That's all I am going for with it. 😁
I hear Rudy
Invest in sets you like ...and the set with the most expensive card..hence..lost orgin..fusion strike..and vintage is always high..new collection people want older things you carnt get...can you vid what cards are top and to invest in..top cards..
Thank you so much for this video Alex!!!
Awesome analysis. I couldn't agree with you more. I was in t he Army when Pokémon started, but like you said it's easy for anyone to collect modern. I started my collection in 2020 during the pandemic. I speculated when ES was released that it would do well. I've opened 10 boosters and have 4 sealed booster boxes and 1 case. PCI just needs to fix their QC issues. Since the S&V release its been more miss than hits on the whitening on border cards, especially on the rarity and hit cards. Keep up the awesome videos and content bro!
Thanks a lot. I appreciate that. Glad you have been doing well in the hobby!!
This is my kind of video. Thank you for this!!
what is the percentage of humidy in your storege where you keep your sealed collection?
I live in missouri so I have a basement where it stays around the same temperature all the time and very little humidity or at least not enough to of ever had an issue in the past 9 years.
I am not too much of an expert on the storage side of things when it comes to the correct temperature and humidity levels. Sorry...
Got it, i have a thermo hygrometer an my humidy stays between 41& to 50% just wondering. thansk for the answer!@@NostalgiaNomics
Love the channel, always check here first when looking for depth on different Pokémon vintage related topics…but please get a better mic 😅 you’ve earned it!
haha
Core-satellite approach, with modern being the core. If you’re trying to make money in any consistent way, modern is the go-to. Vintage is more situational bc it’s not as scalable.
this was the perfect opportunity to break out some hand drawn charts and graphs. Missing such an opportunity will slow the rate at which you reach the chance to sell mystery packs. I expect better in the future!
It's gonna be exciting once more SW&SH booster boxes start poking past the $200 mark. That real bull market fomo is gonna settle in this next year and a half.
I prefer the vintage cards but I think it's only because I was there for pokémon's release and got to experience the hype in grade school. A lot of the art from modern is cool too though.
I get it. I was right there with you. That's the reason I started off buying Vintage only when I got back in the hobby.
is this video a strong 9 or a weak 9?
Black Label 😁
Great video. Definitely earned my subscription
Thanks, I really appreciate that!
Bought some of everything. Problem solved. Except now i'm broke. But will sell in a few years for a fortune! maybe... : )
Got back into the hobby about a year ago and I was convinced that vintage was the only way and modern was pointless even buying to invest. What a difference a year makes is all I’m saying.
I think alot of us are in the same boat of returning the hobby and sticking with vintage for a little while before the monster that is modern lures you in 😂
Bro u got me thinking 🤔. Again thanks for the content appreciate it 🙏🏻
Okay yes but turn around. With modern everyone and their mother has their own closet STACKED full of modern BBS, ETBs, Collection boxes, booster bundles, blisters ECT…. So the supply isn’t going down like sun & moon or anything before that. There wasn’t this massive hoarding on the scale there is today. Your point of slabs going up & up doesn’t really have any standing when it comes to vintage bc let’s be honest no one’s ripping vintage no where near the amount that would be needed to flood the market to really increase the supply all that much. I agree with your statement that with modern everyone can do it so we agree with that but let’s say someone on your level i believe your $ would be much better spent with like what I do, I buy sealed vintage booster boxes. Okay” betting against the 25 year of booster box appreciation” isn’t what the vintage people are saying of course the prices will still rise even tho these products are being MASSIVELY HOARDED they won’t rise near the same rate as if you put that same $ in “vintage” products… even Sun&Moon. You said those are all the pros so I heard you out and I do think you are very smart and have some very good points. Now that I heard you out plz hear me out and watch any modern Pokémon related video done by the channel “Reserved Investments”. I collect pokemon but I also collect Gold, Silver, All types of precious Coins & have a small watch collection & his channel has taught me so much about “investing” in collectables. I subscribed tho man I really enjoyed your video❤️
I think there’s more people commenting “everyone’s doing it” than there is people doing it lol
This🧠
First, I really appreciate you taking the time to share all of this.
Second, yes I know Shawn and understand why he feels the way he does. However, I am not talking bad about him, but he has been wrong time and time and time again about this hobby. In my opinion he has let his own feelings and performance of other unrelated areas affect his judgment and not allow him to be objective about the Pokemon and Collectibles in the new age of social media. What people value has changed drastically with my generations and the generation under mine which is why you see our dollars going places our parents and grandparents would have written off as toys or junk.
I understand your points and the points Shawn makes but I just disagree. The world and the people are changing and this means looking as other asset classes of the past is not always a for sure indicator of things like Pokemon for the future.
In the end only time will tell but here is my question I will pose to you. Is listening to those that get you to fear the future worth possibly missing out on something that has continued to prove true for 30+ years in sealed TCG boxes like Magic, Pokemon, ETC?
Appreciate the sub! And appreciate the honesty feedback!!
"With modern everyone and their mother has their own closet STACKED full of modern BBS, ETBs, Collection boxes, booster bundles, blisters".
People saying without have any quantitative analysis to prove this. If you cant prove it stfu.
@@shitsonitscody The other big question is - Out of all of us pokemon hoarders/ investors. Who's gonna hang on the longest? I'm sure there's plenty of people buying boxes that have to sell way sooner than they would have hopped due to financial issues.
Great break on Thursday brutha, thanks for always taking care of me! Love the channel and the expert advice! Nomics Squad for life💪🏽💪🏽
Appreciate it man. Glad to have you there as always. We are going to get you some of the big hits next time!!
@NostalgiaNomics I have no doubt you will! What packs you thinking for the next break??
It’s hard to disagree with your conclusion. Modem sealed is like dripping into a dividend aristocrat stock portfolio. It just wins. However it is boring and to some it might not give a person the pleasure that comes from other forms of collecting/ investing. I do sealed modern 💯. But I also chase down modern alt arts, full arts, rainbows, and golds of popular pokemon. SW&SH just hits differently and I think “clean copies”, however you want to define that… raw, Psa 9, Psa 10, will do well in the future.
I hear you there man. It definitely doesn't have the fun aspect the way chasing the singles and slabs does. When you add it that aspect it makes a lot more sense chasing the collection you want too!
Modern sealed = KING!
Diamond hands nomics
End of the video should have been: "If you didn't like the video I'm sorry you don't like making money" 😆
🤣
Modern sealed and Vintage singles all the way!
Folx 1.2-6 😮
It's time to get a haircut Alex. Winter is almost over young man time to make your head more aerodynamic.
🤣🤣🤣
First is the worst 2nd is the best 😊
Third is third
But if you compare prices to MSRP…. 😂😂😂
🤣
